I know this isn't really a cheat or anything but it can help if you are a beginner in Wizard101 and you're trying to figure out what to spend your first crowns on.
This is only helpful if you have 5000 crowns (plus the 101 extra bonus crowns) and you haven't bought anything or spent anything before.
There are two different guides i have here. One is for people who don't care about dungeons and crown items and would rather have a better place with quests and all that sort of stuff. The second one is for people who would trade in an area for a pro item and a dungeon.
First Guide:
Go and spend 1500 crowns for firecat alley and cyclopes lane. Then spend 750 crowns on colossus blvd when you unlock it. AFter that do all the quests in those three streets and go buy Krokotopia when you can. You will have spent 915 crowns for the oasis, alter of kings, and the royal hall. After that, you can buy two more areas in krok. In the end you should have 106 crowns (including bonus beginning crowns) which you can save or spend at zeke.
Second Guide:
You could buy cyclopes lane and firecat alley like the first guide says or if you want to save crowns, you could buy one of them. If you like challenges, buy firecat alley. If you like more quests, buy cyclopes lane. But I bought both of them so I can't give you any further information about which one to buy. After that you buy colossus blvd. By the time you played a little bit in those areas, you will probably be like atleast level 10. Go to zeke and buy a shortblade of quick if you don't have anything better. Now here is where the bonus crowns are useful. Buy Sunken City for 750 Crowns after you have done all the quests in the other streets that i just mentioned. After that buy the first three areas of krok. Normally you would have 825 crowns left but with your bonus crowns you should have 926 crowns left. With these crowns buy another area in krok. After that you will have 11 crowns left which you can't spend on anything.
I've noticed a flaw in the second guide. You won't be able to buy sunken city or krok if you don't buy both cyclopes lane and firecat alley. As i said i bought both so if you feel to only buy one of those areas, you're on your own.
After my guide you should be able to spend your future crowns more wisely.
If my guide was useful, please say so. If it wasn't, don't make and army to kill me plz

Is there a way to earn crowns on wizard 101 without buying them or inviting friends?

You need to buy all streets in wizard city to progress in the game, otherwise you'll be stuck with triton avenue and you can't go anywhere! It doesnt matter what you buy with your crowns, as long as you buy as many streets and areas as you can.
