The man you see on the front cover is a Japanese pop sensation called Gackt and the main character of this game, Lau, was modelled and voice acted by Gackt himself. If you do not know who Gackt is then look below to find out. The game was released for the Playstation 2 on Christmas Day of 2003 in Japan and sold quite well, which brought the game eventually to American shores. Just when we thought we would once again miss out on a perfectly good game it finally came out over here on European shores on February 18th 2005 under the name "Bujingai: Swordmaster". Of course, the lack of Gackt's presence in the mainstream media over here forced the game to become what I see as a sleeper hit, and I would imagine the majority of you who are reading this are actually Gackt fans. The game was not advertised at all (or if there was, there was very little) and even I, who has been anticipating the game since it was first announced in 2003 never knew of it's existance here until around the start of March 2005. Anyway, enough of my endless babbling, and let's talk about who Gackt is. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~{01.1}~{Gackt?}~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{itdn10}~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gackt is, as said above, a pop sensation of Japan. He has many fans (the majority of which are raging fangirls) and is well known around Japan. He has his own band named GacktJOB, which is mostly made up of friends from high school and he writes and composes all of his own music. He has so far released six albums, and two compilations from his solo career and has also appeared in a few films, his most well-known one being "Moonchild" where he played the lead role along with L'Arc~en~Ciel's Hyde. He has appeared in many commercial campeigns and interviews and he's just generally famous in Japan. His first major band was the "visual kei" band Malice Mizer, which he joined in 1993, but they are nowhere near as famous as Gackt is now. In Bujingai, Lau Wong is voiced by Gackt and even his character model is modelled after the man and this factor is probably the biggest selling point of the game all over the world. ~o~ ~~~{02}~{Updates}~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{udts02}~ ~o~ Version 0.9 - Added Walkthrough for stages 3 & 4 - Added Gackt costume to Extra Options. The world suffered immense radiation which resulted in the spawn of demons. A man named Lau Wong was born on Kenkisoukentou, an island greatly affected by radiation. When Lau was very young, the demons killed Lau's parents, and soon he met with Master Naguri, a sensei who has reached the ultimate level of swordsmanship and Wushu. Lau became Naguri's pupil and attained a great deal of power from the skills his sensei taught him, enough power to take on even the greatest of demons. Training with him was a man named Rei Jenron who was a great friend to Lau. One day a woman who Rei loved was killed by demons, and Rei swore revenge, even if it meant he himself became a demon. 2600 years later Rei was overwhelmed by the demons, and indeed he did become one.Lau tried desperately to stop him but was beaten, and sent to a parallel dimension for 400 years. During these 400 years Lau trained hard to one day defeat Rei for becoming a monster and now he has been released from the prison dimension. The year is now 674 M.A. His duty now is to return to Kenkisoukentou and hunt down Rei Jenron. ~o~ ~~~{04}~{Characters}~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{crct04}~ ~o~ There are not that many characters in Bujingai. In fact there are only 4 main characters. Below I will post some information about each of them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~{04.1}~{Lau Wong}~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{crct10}~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lau Wong is the main character in Bujingai, and the character that you control the whole way through. He was born on the island of Kenkisoukentou where he lived until his parents were killed by demons. Master Naguri found him and raised him in the arts Wushu and swordsmanship where he trained alongside Rei Jenron. After Rei's love was killed by demons, Rei left the Houmadera to seek revenge and was turned into a demon. When Lau fought him, he lost, and was sent to an alternate dimension for 400 years where he trained to become the greatest swordsman and defeat Rei's demon. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~{04.2}~{Rei Jenron}~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{crct20}~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rei Jenron is the main villian in Bujingai. He trained alongside Lau Wong at the Houmadera with Master Naguri, but when his love Yohfa was killed he wanted to seek revenge on the demons, even if it meant becoming a demon himself. Rei was defeated by the demons and became one of them. When Master Naguri and Lau tried to kill the demon Rei slain his master, and Lau was sent to an alternate dimension. Rei still wanders in search of Yohfa and will not stop until he finds her but since he is a demon now he may do something he doesn't want to do. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~{04.3}~{Naguri Tensai}~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{crct30}~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Naguri is a legendary warrior who has mastered the ultimate level in Wushu and swordsmanship. He took Lau as his pupil after demons killed his parents and also trained Rei Jenron. When Rei became a demon, Naguri tried to kill the demon inside of him but was killed by Rei. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~{04.4}~{Yohfa}~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{crct40}~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Not much is known about Yohfa other than she is Rei's ex-lover. When demons killed her Rei set out to take revenge but became a demon himself. He still searches for Yohfa's soul and will stop at nothing to find it. What he will do with it now he is a demon is unknown but Lau must stop him. ~o~ ~~~{05}~{How to Play}~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{htpy05}~ ~o~ Everytime you load up the game you will be asked to choose which language you wish the game to be played in out of: English Francais Deutsch Italiano Espanol and also whether you wish the game to be played in 50Hz or 60Hz mode. Please note: If your TV is as old as mine, it may not be able to play 60Hz properly, and it will run in a very eye-straining black and white. Always test the game for 60Hz before selecting it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~{05.0}~{1st Main Menu}~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{htpy00}~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After loading the game and watching the "Surprise Start" you will be faced with the following options: Play Game Options Choosing "Play Game" prompts you to choose between two difficulties: Easy, or Medium to begin with (if you are starting off it's always best to choose easy). Choosing "Options" will bring you to a new screen, described below. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Options~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When you select this screen, you will be prompted with six different options. These options allow you change different parts of the game to suit your method of play: Control Settings Vibration Settings Display Settings Sound Settings Default Settings Exit ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Control Settings ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here, you may change the control configuration for the game. Use the up and down arrows to select the command and then use the left and right buttons on your Playstation controller to change the button required for each action. NOTE: This game requires the use of the analogue sticks, therefore a DualShock or a DualShock 2 controller (or any third party analogue Playstation controller) must be used. Below is the default configuration: Attack : Square Special Attack : Triangle Cast Spell : Circle Jump : X Lock-On : R1 Adjust Camera : R2 Switch Target : L1 Radar Display : L2 Select "Default Settings to change your custom configuration back to this at any time, and "Exit" to go back to the previous screen. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Vibration Settings ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here you can switch the vibration function on your Playstation controller on or off by selecting the corresponding option. By default the vibration settings are ON. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Display Settings ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Within this option you may alter 2 things. You can change the "Screen Brightness Settings" and the "Screen Placement Settings". By choosing "Screen Brightness Settings" you are taken to a screen with a fading line of white, red, green and blue. Using this as a guide you should adjust the brightness levels on your television so that all parts of the lines are invisible below the orange bar. This is optional, but it enhances gameplay slightly. By going to "Screen Placement Settings" you can change the position of the visible screen. By adjusting the horizontal and vertical axes you can use this to centre your screen, as some television sets can be slightly off. To return to the default set both axes to "00". You can return to the previous screen by selecting "Return to Previous Screen". ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sound Settings ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here you can change various audio settings depending on your television and preferences. By selecting "Volume Settings" you can change the volume levels for the Background Music (BGM), the Sound Effects and the Voices. By default all levels are at 90%. By selecting "Acoustics Settings" you can change the sound to either Stereo or Mono, depending on both your preference and your available sound from your television. Some older or smaller television sets may only output one channel of sound and therefore selecting Stereo could reduce the sound quality. You can return to the previous screen by selecting "Return to Previous Screen". If you wish to change everything back to the default settings select "Default Settings" and select YES. Choose "Exit" to leave the Options Menu. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~{05.1}~{Main Menu}~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{htpy01}~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Everytime you return to this menu after you start the first real stage, the options here will change very slightly. Start New Game Continue Game Options Extra Options ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Start New Game~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This takes you back to the "Surprise Start" and will in turn take you back to the "1st Main Menu" after watching it. Only at that menu will you be able to choose the difficulty of the game. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Continue Game~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This option lets you load a previously saved game and play on from there. A Playstation 2 memory card must be inserted in slot 1 in order to load or save. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Options~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Takes you to the options menu. Please refer to the "1st Main Menu" section for this. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Extra Options~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In this menu you will be able to watch any unlocked movies or view anything you have unlocked within the game. To start with, the Extra Options menu will look like: ??????? ??????? ??????? ??????? ??????? ??????? Exit In order to unlock these other options you must fulfill certain requirements. A completed version of this menu is described in detail in the Unlockables section of this FAQ. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~{05.2}~{Main Screens}~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{htpy02}~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In this section I will go over the in-game menus and screens of the game. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Main Game Screen~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The main screen you will see when you play Bujingai is the game screen. This screen shows the gameplay and flow of the stages in the game. Below is a brief ASCII drawing of the main screen: _____________________________ || |_ ____ 7| || 1 - Lau's Health Guage |\1/2 \ / \ |9 \8|| 2 - Lau's Swordplay Guage |||\__/ | 6 | \__/||| 3 - Lau's Spell Guage ||| \____/ ||| 4 - Lau ||| 5 ||| 5 - Consecutive Hit Counter ||| | 6 - Radar Display | | 7 - Demon's Name | | 8 - Demon's Health Guage | O 4 | 9 - Demon's Swordplay Guage | \/|\/ | 10 - Reijyo Accumulated | __ / \ | |/3 \_________ | |\____________\___________o_10| The Health Guage is shown in-game by a yellow bar. Once this yellow bar turns 100% black then Lau will be killed and it will be Game Over. The Swordplay Guage shows how many times you can Swordplay a demon before you are unable to stop it from hurting you. This will happen when all of the silver "petals" disappear. If this guage does not decrease more over time it will slowly recover. If you finish a combo with a special pose, a symbol will cover this guage and you may recieve a better score at the end of the stage. The Spell Guage shows you everything you need about your Spells. The purple guage is a meter of how much spellpower you have left. Once this guage turns 100% black you will not be able to use skills unless you recover this meter. The ball next to the meter shows you which skill you currently have equipped. More information about this is in the Spells section. The Consecutive Hit Counter shows you how high a combo you have reached. This goes back to zero once you are attacked. The Radar Display is the only form of map Lau has. The only information the radar contains is the direction of your travel, any special items and the next door leading to the next area. This should be used very carefully as it does not show any walls or demons in the vacinity. Like Lau demons have a Health Guage, and like Lau this guage will deplete as you attack it. Once the guage fully depletes the demon will die. Some stronger demons (like bosses) also have a Swordplay Guage, and it works exactly the same way as Lau's. In the corner you will find another meter. This is your Reijyo meter. As you collect more Reijyo this meter will increase and you can use them at the Power-Up menu later. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Pause Screen~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ By pressing Start on your controller you will pause the game. You are given 3 options in this menu. You can either "Continue", "Return to the Houmadera" or "End Game" (The "Return to the Houmadera" option is not there if you are doing Stage 1 for the first time or are at the Houmadera). By selecting "Continue" you will resume your game. By selecting "Return to the Houmadera" you will end the current stage and be transported to the Houmadera. You can return to the same area you were in by choosing it from the Portal menu. By selecting "End Game" you will be asked if you wish to save, and then you will be sent back to the main menu. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Select Screen~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ By pressing Select on your controller you will access another menu. The options you can select here are: Select Spell Status Options Exit ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Select Spell ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Selecting this will give you a list of all the available spells you have aquired. You can go on to select the spell you wish to equip and go back to the previous menu. ~~~~~~ Status ~~~~~~ This screen shows you a few facts about Lau. It will tell you how many HP (Hit Points) you have; how many SP (Spell Points) you have; how many DP (Defense Points) you have; your current Reijyo accumulation; your current Reijyo levels; your current play time; how many times you've loaded the file, and how many times you have returned to the Houmadera mid-way through a stage. Pressing the X button here will show you all the Spells you have acquired, your Magic Items and how many Taikyokuin you have found ~~~~~~~ Options ~~~~~~~ Takes you to the options menu. Please refer to the "1st Main Menu" section for this. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~{05.3}~{Movement}~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{htpy03}~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There are several ways to move and jump around in this game. Below I will describe everything you need to move around in the world of Bujingai. Please note that I am using the default configuration for this. To start off with, you must use the left analogue stick in this game. The D-Pad is only used to navigate menus. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Basic Movements~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ These are the essential things you must know in order to get through the game. A must know for this game is that by moving the right analogue stick you can change the direction of the camera. This does not work when locked-on to a demon however. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Running & Walking ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To run, simple push the left analogue stick in the direction you want Lau to go. To walk, simply push the left analogue stick only slightly, instead of the full way. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jumping & Climbing ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To jump, press the X button. If you hold the left analogue stick in a direction and press X, Lau will jump in the direction you are facing. If you pull back on the left analogue stick and press X at the same time, Lau will perform a 180degree backflip, and land facing the opposite direction. Similarly, holding the stick left or right and pressing X will make Lau do a sideflip and face in the direction you want him. If you are facing a wall there are a few ways of getting up. The most basic of these is to face the wall, jump against it. If the ledge above is low enough, Lau will grab onto it. Press X and Lau will lift himself up on top of the ledge. You may find that there may be a few things to grab onto before you reach the top. To pass this you must simply press and hold X to grab the other ledges just like Lau will get himself up. You can also do this to hang onto poles and jump on top of them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Advanced Jumps~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ By performing these jumps you will add more points to your Dramatic Action Points at the end of the stage. ~~~~~~~~~ Wall Jump ~~~~~~~~~ To perform a Wall Jump, jump against a wall, and when you hit it, hold the analogue stick in the opposite direction and press X again. By doing this jump you will do a 180degree turn and land facing the other way. This can be useful when needing to escape demons. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Triangle Jump ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To do a Triangle Jump, jump against the wall like in the Wall Jump, and press X. You will do a 180degree turn and jump to a higher point. This can be useful when trying to climb high places as you can use this many times without touching the ground. ~~~~~~~~~~ Swing Jump ~~~~~~~~~~ To perform a Swing Jump you must first be hanging onto a pole. While hanging, hold forward and press X to make Lau swing forward. If there is another pole infront of him he will hang onto it. Useful to get over large gaps easily. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Advanced Movement~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ By performing these moves you will add more points to your Dramatic Action Points at the end of the stage. ~~~~~~~~~ Air Glide ~~~~~~~~~ While in mid-air, press X again to make Lau glide in the air for roughly 2 seconds. While gliding Lau's speed will increase and fron the Air Glide you can go into an attack or other technique. ~~~~~~~~ Wall Run ~~~~~~~~ There are 2 types of wall run. The vertical wall run and the horizontal wall run. To perform the vertical wall run, jump against a wall, hold forward and press and hold X. Lau will run up the wall, allowing you to reach higher places. The second type of wall run is the horizontal wall run. To do this, face the direction of the wall you want to run along, jump and then hold up and press and hold X. Lau will run along the wall for a short period of time. Use this to reach places you cannot reach by simple jumping. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Lock-On~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To lock-on to a demon, hold R1. While holding R1 you will follow the target's movement and will always face it. If an enemy attacks you from the front while it is locked on it will initiate either a Swordplay or Spell Defense, depending on the attack. More information on this later. When you are holding R1, you can also strafe around a demon. By pressing X and the direction you want to go Lau will strafe either forward, left, right or backwards. This is useful for avoiding spells and attacks, and can also get you around to the back of a demon where it cannot resist. To change your target, press L1 and Lau will cycle through the demons in the area. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~{05.5}~{Spells}~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{htpy05}~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In Bujingai you will be able to use and master a variety of different magic spells that can be used in different situations. These spells consume SP (Spell Points) fast and some more quickly than others. Below I will give you a list of all the spells found in the game, their use, where to find them and their possible levels. To use the spells, press the Circle button on your Playstation 2 controller. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Gouenken~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Level 1 Found: Lau already has this at the start of the game Level 2 Found: Stage 4 Level 3 Found: The Gouenken spell is a fire-based spell that fires a flame at a demon and surrounds it. The higher the level this is the larger range this spell has. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Souryuuken~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Level 1 Found: Stage 1 - Area 3 Level 2 Found: Level 3 Found: Stage 7 - Area 1 The Souryuuken is a nice little technique in which Lau dives at a demon, spinning into it (or them) with his swords before slicing the demon in front of him with both of his swords in a horizontal cut. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Dankuuken~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Level 2 Found: - Uses 450 Spell Points The Dankuuken spell attacks your targeted demon with a vertical shockwave. Lau spins in the air and slashes his swords which create a shockwave heading straight towards the enemy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Ryouseiken~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Level 2 Found: Stage 3 The Ryouseiken spell is a ranged attack in which Lau fires a magical array of arrows into a target. The arrows fly in a pincer shape, with several coming from each side. The arrows will hurt anything that crosses their path. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Tenseiken~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Level 3 Found: Stage 7 - Area 3 - Uses 980 Spell Points. This is the big one. The most powerful spell in the game, and the one that uses most of your Spell Points. It uses up a whopping 980 Spell Points, so unless you have maxed your Spell Guage, you'll only be using this attack once before you need to recharge. This attack hurts multiple demons, and Lau fires a magical arrow that reins down on them from above. Because of this, it can't be Spell Defended. Only use this when you realyl need to. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Jinbuken~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Level 2 Found: Stage 6 - Area 1 - Uses 1000 Spell Points This spell, like Tenseiken, uses up most of your Spell Points, so only use it when you really need to. Jinbuken summons a number of swords that circle Lau. Unfortunately they don't harm anything they touch, but if you press Circle again Lau will fire all of them towards your targetted demon and cause devastating damage. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Senranken~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Level 1 Found: Level 2 Found: - Uses 260 Spell Points Level 3 Found: The Senranken spell creates a whirlwind around Lau, which damages anything around him and throws them into the air. The higher level this is increases the radius of the whirlwind, damaging demons further away. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Tekkuken~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Level 1 Found: Stage 1 - Area 5 - 6 Spell Points per second The Tekkuken spell uses Spell Points to allow Lau's physical strength increase. As soon as you select it, the spell will activate itself and your Spell Guage will slowly deplete so be careful. During this time Lau will glow bright with an orange aura to show you that the spell is activated. The spell will end when Lau's Spell Guage is emptied. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Gaisenken~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Level 1 Found: Stage 2 - Area 3 - 6 Spell Points per second Gaisenken is an alright spell, but not the best. Like Tekkuken it drains your Spell Guage slowly rather than consumes it in set amounts, but instead of increasing your attack it increases your defense. This can prove useful when you get into swordfights with tougher demons, but once you get to maximum defense it is literally useless. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~{05.7}~{Swordplay}~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{htpy07}~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If a demon attacks you from the front, and you are not in the middle of an attack or jump Lau will perform what is known as a Recieval. It is his first form of defense against attack and he will use it so long as your Defense Guage is not fully depleted. From here you can do one of teo things; you can either go into Swordplay or you can Evade. To evade, press X and Lau will jump himself out of the demon's attack range. This can be useful if you want to get behind a demon and attack it from behind, rendering it defenseless. To go into Swordplay, press the Square the button while being attacked. When in Swordplay, you and your enemy will initiate a swordfight which can look pretty spectacular. By repeatedly pressing Square you will stay in Swordplay mode until one of you either evades or gets the other's Defense Guage to zero. Once one of you have depleted the other's Defense Guage you will be to attack the other without it being able to defend itself. You will be getting into numerous swordfights throughout the game with many demons and so mastering the swordfight and when to evade etc. can prove very useful against highly defensive demons. To evade while in the middle of Swordplay, press the X button and Lau will get himself out, and you will be able to attack almost straight after. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~{05.8}~{Spell Defense}~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{htpy08}~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Many demons are able to throw projectiles your way, or fire some sort of spell in your direction. In these cases, instead of going into Swordplay you will perform a Spell Recieval which acts in the same way as a Swordplay Revieval. From this technique, however, you will be able to respond with a Spell Defense or an Evasion. To evade, just press X and you will get yourself out of the projectile's fire. But if you press Square repeatedly you will go into a Spell Defense. A Spell Defense works similar to the Swordplay. In this mode you will block the oncoming attack and will deplete your Defense Guage by doing so. If you keep defending the spell once your Defense Guage has depleted you will be hit by the spell to watch your Defense Guage. A Spell Defense can lead to another thing though; a Spell Counter. When you defend against a spell you will notice that your Spell Guage flips around, glows white and starts charging the other way. This is called the Spell Counter Guage and proves very useful against demons. When your Spell Defense Guage rises and meets with your Spell Guage metre your Spell Counter Guage will flash red. When it does this, press Circle to unleash a powerful counter that will damage demons greatly. This attack is usually the main basis of my boss strategies and so mastering it can prove very useful. There is one drawback about the Spell Counter however. It totally depletes your Spell Guage, and you will have to start refilling it if you wish to use another spell. The other thing is that if you increase your Spell Guage it will take longer to charge your Spell Counter guage, which is the reason I will never say it's best to increase your Spell Guage. If you plan on using spells a lot then go ahead, but for my style of play it isn't the most essential thing to upgrade. Note that you can also get out of a Spell Defense in the same manner as Evading by pressing the X button. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~{05.9}~{Items}~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{htpy09}~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There are many items in Bujingai that you must collect in your journey. Most are key items which are needed to move on through the game, some are spell items that allow you to cast different spells while some are just general items that you will find by breakng crates, pots or by defeating demons. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Reijyu~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Reijyu are the blue orbs that you will find all over the island. These blue orbs are your experience points which you can spend at the Houmadera to upgrade different aspects of your abilities. You can find these almost anywhere and are found in every pot and are dropped by almost every demon. The small Reijyu are worth 1 point while the larger Reijyu are worth 10. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Konjyu~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ These are the green orbs. They are only found in Area 3 of Seirinkyou and are used to unseal the gate at the end. You can only find them by breaking the bamboo sticks and gradually disappear so you must hurry when collecting them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Rikisentan~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ These are the yellow orbs, and they restore about 1000 Health Points. These will be much rarer in some stages than others and can be found inside crates, ice blocks and are sometimes dropped by tougher demons. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Yousentan~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ These are the pinkish/purple orbs. These orbs replenish your Spell Guage by about 500 Spell Points and are much more common than the Rikisentan. These are only found in crates, and are not dropped by demons. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Jingenjyu~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ One of the 3 gems needed to activate the Byakku Altar in Rakanin. You can obtain it by defeating Korikitaikou-Kou in the upper level room to the left of the altar. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Chiganjyu~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ One of the 3 gems needed to activate the Byakku Altar in Rakanin. You can obtain it by defeating Korikitaikou-Otsu in the upper level room to the right of the altar. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Tengenjyu~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ One of the 3 gems needed to activate the Byakku Altar in Rakanin. You can obtain it by getting up to the ledge in front of the altar. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~{05.A}~{Demons}~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{htpy0A}~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On the island of Kenkisoukentou you will find many demons. These demons are formed from the radiation left over from the nuclear fire in 22XX A.D. and no one knows why they exist or what their purpose is. All that they know, is that you are their enemy, and they will try to kill you. Some demons are more powerful than others and there are a variety of different species of demon and a few different types within a species. Below is a list of all the demons and a description of each. They go in order of the Character Viewer list in the Special Options menu to the best I can put them at the moment. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Hinkyonshi Kou~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ These demons are the most basic demon. They are made up of 6 different parts, most of which are hardly connected to their body. Their arms float beside their shoulders and their upper torso is connected to their pelvis via a massive stake which goes through their back. Their legs are connected in a similar fashion to the arms, although their are stakes stabbing out from the sides of their pelvis. Their feet are made up of a rounded blade which has been cut in half. Their face is covered by a black and white ying-yang symbol and their main body colour is green. These guys carry around with them a long sword and are quite easy to kill as their Health Guage is small and thei strength is weak. A single combo should take of them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Hinkyonshi Otsu~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ These demons are an upgrade of the Kou. Their face is covered by a black and white ying-yang symbol and their main body colour is peach. These guys carry around with them what appears to be a rather large machete. They are slightly tougher to kill than the Kou counterparts but because their weapon is heavy their movement is quite slow. They are still pretty easy to beat, even at the start of the game. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Hinkyonshi Hei~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ These demons are an upgrade of the Kou. Their face is covered by a black and green ying-yang symbol and their main body colour is a blueish grey. These guys carry around with them a crossbow and attack from far away. They are even easier to kill than their Kou counterparts as they have even less Health and take a lot of time between attacks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Hinkyonshi Tei~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ These demons are an upgrade of the Kou. Their face is covered by a black and red ying-yang symbol and their main body colour is purple. A faster version of the Hinkyonshi-Otsu, these demons carry with them a long sword which has been shaped with a rounded edge with a sharp spike at the blunt end. Like the other Hinkyonshi types, these can still be killed pretty easily. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Hinkyonshi Bo~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ These demons are an upgrade of the Kou. Their face is covered by a black and red ying-yang symbol and their main body colour is grey. These guys carry an improved version of the Otsu's machete. The only difference is that these guys attack more and are stronger than the Otsu. They appear mainly at the end of the game. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Hinkyonshi Kou~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ These demons are an upgrade of the original Kou. Their face is covered by a black and red ying-yang symbol and their main body colour is red. Like the original Hinkyonshi-Kou, these Kou carry a sword. The sword is a much more powerful sword a spiked blade to force into it's prey. It's health is a little higher than the other Hinkyonshi but should still be no problem to beat. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Hinkyonshi Shin~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ These demons are the most powerful types of Hinkyonshi. Their face is covered by a black and red ying-yang symbol and their main body colour is black. They carry with them a machete similar to the Hinkyonshi-Bo, except this one is black and red and is more powerful. It has the highest attack power and speed, but still does not have a defense guage. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Goukyonshi Kou~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Goukyonshi species take on more of a human form than the Hinkyonshi. They cover up their lower half with clothes by leave their chest unclad. They wear gauntlets on both hands and wear a large hat with a piece of material that completely covers their face. Their body is a blueish colour while their clothes are a green/cream colour. Like the Hinkyonshi-Kou these guys carry a long sword. Their health is slightly higher than the Hinkyonshi but they aren't any more deadly. The only difference I have noticed with them is that they jump around a lot to try and evade your attacks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Goukyonshi Otsu~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Goukyonshi species take on more of a human form than the Hinkyonshi. They cover up their lower half with clothes by leave their chest unclad. They wear gauntlets on both hands and wear a large hat with a piece of material that completely covers their face. Their body is a yellowish colour while their clothes are a purple/orange colour. They carry the same weapon as the the Hinkyonshi-Tei. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Goukyonshi-Hei~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Goukyonshi species take on more of a human form than the Hinkyonshi. They cover up their lower half with clothes by leave their chest unclad. They wear gauntlets on both hands and wear a large hat with a piece of material that completely covers their face. Their body is a greyish colour while their clothes are red. They carry the same weapon as the improved Hinkyonshi-Kou. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Goukyonshi-Tei~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Goukyonshi species take on more of a human form than the Hinkyonshi. They cover up their lower half with clothes by leave their chest unclad. They wear gauntlets on both hands and wear a large hat with a piece of material that completely covers their face. Their body is a greyish colour while their clothes are a black/grey colour. They carry the same weapon as the Hinkyonshi-Hei. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Bankyonshi-Kou~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Like the Goukyonshi these demons leave their chests uncovered. Their faces are also uncovered and they look pretty frightening. They have a strange sort of headwear that folds back behind them that covers their bald heads. Their skin colour is green while their clothes are blue. They carry a weapon similar to the Hinkyonshi-Otsu. They attack at a faster rate than the Goukyonshi and Hinkyonshi and have a higher strength. They also have the ability to throw their weapon at you so be careful. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Bankyonshi-Otsu~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Like the Goukyonshi these demons leave their chests uncovered. These Bankyonshi are the most powerful in the species. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Kouki Kou~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Kouki Otsu~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Soki Kou~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Soki Otsu~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Ouki Kou~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Ouki Otsu~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Bokkou Kou~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Bokkou Otsu~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Takuhi Kou~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Takuhi Otsu~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Takuhi Hei~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Shiniku Kou~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Shiniku Otsu~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Bhandra~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bhandra's are demons, but they're hardly deadly. Their only attack fires a beam of light and travels in a straight line dealing small damage. They have 2 uses that help Lau in his journey however. They can be used to help Lau get across a large gap by attacking them in mid-air and dealing a combo on them. This lets both of them travel over a distance until it is killed. The other use is when Kyukoku are around. One strike from them kills them and with them the Kyukoku will die. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Endra Kou~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Endra Otsu~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Kigara~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ These are not really demons, but are wooden practice dummies. They are only found inside the Houmadera and cannot hurt Lau. Use them to practice your skills on. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Keikyonshi~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Keikyonshi look exactly like the Goukyonshi species, except they are red |
