DISCLAIMER: Before submitting this guide, I have fought the bosses 10+ times with the strategies given below to make sure they work. The strategies contained in this guide are for the rangers and barbarians only. While they should generally be good for any combat-strong character, they cannot be guaranteed to work for anyone other than the aforementioned classes. *********************************************************************** 1) Version History 2) quide explanation Currently covered: 3) Act I: Faydark Forest A) Skarlem Drizinek B) Veerser Blackfist C) Brackus the Brute D) Davros Bigran E) Orc Leader F) Goblin shaman G) Shelox 4) Act II: The Underworld A) Ant Queen B) Undead Knight C) Wraiths D) Lord Vanarhost 5) Act III: The Pit of Ill Omen A) Cyclops B) King Mormaz C) Cloud Giant King Coming Soon: 5) Act III: The Pit of Ill Omen (continued) D) Gloomwater 6) Act IV: Khathuun A) Arena Beast B) More wraiths 7) Act V: The Planes A) Greater Minion B) Inooruk 8) Thanks and Credits 9) Legalities *********************************************************************** *********************************************************************** 1) Version History version 1.00 – the first version (obviously) covers all of sections 3-5C *********************************************************************** 2) Guide Explanation Location: self-explanatory. What cave/sub-region of the main part of the world the boss can be found in. Boss Level: 2 types. Sub-bosses are generally easier than bosses, and they don’t put much toward furthering the plot. They are simply a means to an end. Bosses are much more difficult and either play a major role in the story-line or are right before major events in the game Name: The boss’ name. this will be the name in the red lifebar at the bottom of the screen. “non-static” means the name is different each time you play the game. Type: Species the creature is. (i.e. orc, vampire, etc.) includes any minions that might be in the fight Tactics: the obvious. How to beat the creature. Might include extra information *********************************************************************** 3) Act I: Faydark Forest A) Location: Lesser Faydark. Boss Level: Sub-Boss Name: Skarlem Drizinek Type: Large Goblin (plus 2 dire badgers) Tactics: before fighting Skarlem, you need to dispose of the two dire badgers that are with him. You can do this one of two ways. The first is to lure them back to some elves where the elves will distract them while you flank them. The second that I suggest doing is to move to the left of the map where there will be a path closer to the Skarlem but neither he nor the badgers will be able to reach you. From there, you simply swing away with whatever melee weapon you have, or fire away with your ranged weapon, whichever is more effective. The reason I suggest doing this is because once the dire badgers are dead, it is only a matter of time before Skarlem comes looking for you, and you can use the same position to kill him as well. B) Location: The Hidden Tunnels Boss Level: sub-boss Name: Veerser Blackfist Type: Large Goblin plus goblin minions Tactics: by now you should be effective at killing goblins. First step, wipe out the minions around his area, but don’t actually approach him. The tactics for this boss are simply. Fire away until he gets close, then wait for it, wait for it, BAM, hit him just as he comes into range to stun him for a moment and then begin wailing. Block when needed, don’t just go kamikaze on him. Remember to keep those potions fingers ready. C) Location: Orc Cave Level 3 Boss Level: sub-boss Name: Brackus the Brute Type: large Orc, plus orc minions Tactics: as with the other sub-bosses, first thing's first; kill his minions. If he gets close to you before his minions are dead, run, he is slow and it is easy to separate him from the pack. Once they are done, go in swinging, but watch out. His flaming sword won’t do much damage if you block, so keep on your guard. The fire does slowly hurt you, though, so unless you have higher enough health regen that it doesn’t bother you, keep an eye on your health. Like the other bosses, he doesn’t take too long to kill, though you might need a few more potions going into this fight than you did in the previous sub-bosses. D) Location: Ruins of Faydark during catapult mission Boss level: sub-boss Name: Davros Bigran Type: large goblin Tactics: you've dealt with his kind before. He’s the same as the first two sub-bosses. The only difference is that this time, you're stronger and better equipped (I hope). This one is pretty straight forward. Go at him attacking and blocking. If you can find a place to use the tactics from the first sub-boss, use it, but don’t go looking for one unless the defensive attacking just doesn’t cut it for you. This guy falls pretty fast. E) Location: forest ruins interior level 1 Boss level: Boss Name: Orc Leader Type: Large Orc Tactics: this is it, your first experience with a REAL boss. Yes, that’s right, a re-occurring character that will haunt you further into the game. Tactics for this battle start before the fight does. Before you get into the fight, go home. Go back to the tree-top forest and buy a good amount of potions. The least I’ve ended up using was 12, but that’s after beating him a few times and getting good at fighting him, so I’d say get around 20, maybe 25 if you like to play it safe. and if you like to use things like enchanted arrows or multi-fire with the ranger, or maybe slam and shield bash for the barbarian, get at least that many, or more, mana potions. Now the fight starts. His pole-arm is magically enchanted, and his swing is devastating. His charge attack hits despite any attempts to block, so if he swings his pole arm up onto his shoulder, run, and hope you outrun him. When he starts swinging multiple shots in a row, he breaks through your block, but not with a lethal amount of damage if you keep your health up. So block until he stops swinging, and then swing once or twice, or however many times you feel necessary and safe. If you want to use shield bash or slam, don’t use it unless he just went through his process of multiple swings, or he'll be ready to hit you and interrupt your attack, wasting the mana. This tactic might take a while, but it’s safe, and effective. After he falls, make sure you pick up all the stuff he drops, because the black scroll is required to continue and his weapon he drops is expensive. F) Location: Forest Ruins Boss level: sub-boss Name: non-static Type: goblin shaman, with troops Tactics: you've killed plenty of these guys, and he is so easy, I don’t know why I’m including him in hear, but he gets a name and a life bar, so I'm gunna include him. like I said, you have dealt with many of these guy already but this one has about two or three times the normal HP. when you first enter, kill off anyone that gets in your way, but as soon as you have a clear path to the center of the encampment (or at him if he is out by now) take it, ignoring everyone but the shaman. Kill him, and the rest is a piece of pie....I don’t like cake... G) Location: Forest Ruins Interior level 2 Boss level: boss Name: Shelox Type: Humongus spider Tactics: another real boss....this one is harder though, especially if you have a barbarian. There are two different tactics to take here. The first is for the ranger. By now, I hope you have plenty of ranks in multi-fire and ice arrow, possibly even a few in fire arrow if you're high enough level. Anyways, I got to tell yaw, the best approach is the age-old circle-and-fire routine. Run around in circles and stopping occasionally to get a few good shots in with multi-fire and ice arrows. But watch out, if she shoots a web, it will have one of 2 affects. The first is if it hits you, she drags you in, grabs you with her legs, and bites you (her most devastating attack) if it misses, it has a chance of sticking to the wall, creating a trip-wire that snags you if you run into it, allowing her to do the same. My advice is doing get too far away. If you're just out of her reach, she will rarely her web, and will instead spit her poison. As a barbarian, it is a similar approach, but generally, you'll be keeping close enough that you won’t have to worry about her web. Make sure you have plenty of both potions in stock (as well as a gate scroll or 2) to make sure you can survive this fight. Get close to her side or back if you can and circle her as she spins. Use shield bash or slam (whichever will do more damage) every chance you get, and WATCH THOSE TRIP-LINES. If you see a trip-line, turn around and run the other way, because they don’t last very long. *********************************************************************** 4) Act II: The Underworld A) Location: Ant Hill level 2 Boss level: Boss Name: Ant Queen Type: Humongus mammothant Tactics: well, it had to happen sooner or later; a real boss with minions to aid it. The tactic I use might take a few tries to figure out where you're headed, but it works once you know what to do. Before you go in, make sure you have LOTS of arrows or spears (or both) so that you can kill the queen without going into melee with her. In the main chamber, you can go off to both sides. Only one side, however, is of use to you in this fight. On one side or the other (non-static) there will be a place where you can use the same tactics from the very first sub-boss fight. Hide in the area where she can’t go, and kill off her minions with melee attacks. After they are dealt with, range-attack her to death. Yes, its cowardice, but it keeps you alive. B) Location: Caverns of the Fallen level 2 Boss level: sub-boss Name: Undead Knight Type: large skeleton Tactics: this is a hard one. After dealing with the 21 skeletons from before, you might be low on potions or arrows, and that is a serious problem. Go to town and get lots of both, I go in with at least 30 of either potion, and a few hundred arrows. There are 2 problems here. 1) You can’t go near the walls or you get blanketed by archer skeletons with the multi-fire feat. 2) The walking shield. The undead knight creates some sort of fiery shadow creature that not only damages you, but attempts to block your attacks. The undead knight himself deals massive damage when he attacks, and does so with 3+ swings in a row at all time. But it’s ok, because they are both SLOW. So slow that you can keep it to where the only time the summoned creature is between you and the undead knight is when he is newly summoned. Which brings me to another point. You can kill the minion if you want, but he will eventually be re-summoned (this is done every few minutes regardless of damage dealt to minion). So I say circle and fire, no matter what class you are, but keep your distance at all times. This is a lengthy fight, so be prepared to use many potions, and possibly another scroll to go buy more arrows. C) Location: Vanarhost catacombs Boss level: sub-boss Name: wraiths (multiple wraiths, all the same, different names) Type: wraith Tactics: these guys are a bit of a pain, but nothing serious. There are a lot of them, but you'll have a heads up. When you see the life bar, try to draw away any undead before fighting the wraith, cause they make it more difficult. Ok, so you have a melee weapon. I hope it hits fast and hard. Wraiths do a decent amount of damage wittier scythe, and to make it worse, they summon skeletons and what-not to distract you. If you are the barbarian, ignore the bag of bones for now and run in swinging at the wraith. Use slam once or twice if it’s boosted and just swing. If you're the ranger, shoot/swing at whatever is in front of you, but try to concentrate on the wraith if you can. He should go down easily D) Location: Vanarhost Castle Boss Level: Boss Name: Lord Vanarhost Type: Vampire Tactics: this is a tough one. If his red sword is out, you don’t want to die, so make sure and far keep away. I fought him with a level 17 barbarian, and the first time I fought this guy, I died from three or four hits by the red sword. So no matter what your class, make sure and have LOT of ranged weapon ammo. Unless you have spears that are "fast" I suggest a bow since you can get in more hits in the same time. So yeah, circle and shoot. After you down his health enough, he will start flying up or disappearing, this is when you pull out your melee weapon. When he appears, swing hard and fast. If you have slammed boosted, use it. Most importantly of all, use potions liberally!! *********************************************************************** 5) Act III: The Pit of Ill Omen A) Location: Hidden Shore Boss Level: boss Name: non-static Type: Cyclops Tactics: coward tactics again. He hits hard, and knocks you back. He can take down a level 19 barbarian in about2-4 swings. Find a place to separate you, and fire away. If you run out of arrows or spears, run in and hit him fast before he swings and knocks you away. Then heal, and do it again. B) Location: Sealed Temple Boss Level: Boss Name: King Mormaz Type: Ancient mummy Tactics: before the fight, get a high-level poison resistance trinket. (20+% is good). Unlike other bosses, Mormaz rarely uses melee attacks. However he does cast magic, send unavoidable poison snakes after you, disease you, and summon minions that become a problem. Attack him with whatever method is more effective, and watch for mummy spell casters. As you know by now, the spell casters are a priority when trying to survive. Kill them, kill any warriors that get in your way, and keep at Mormaz. Like with the last few bosses, use healing potions liberally. also, as a barbarian, I wouldn’t suggest using feats such as slam, charge, or ground-pound too much as they are all slow attacks, and a lot of fast swinging with a good weapon will be more efficient. C) Location: Tower of clouds Boss Level: Boss Name: Cloud Giant King Type: Cloud Giant Tactics: this one is long, so bear with me. Before going into this battle, you need to have powerful spears (around 100), the most powerful bow you can get, and lots of arrows (around 160-200). Unless you already used them (or if you're stupid, sold them) put a mummy's tongue in bow the bow and the spears. Disease is a very potent ally to have, because it does more damage than poison, and it ticks more often, making your enemy stop more, thus giving you more opportunities to fire at him ok, so get the poison-enchanted bow and spears, and get in there. He has 6 attacks. The first 3 are the same as the cloud giants you saw before, and you will never have to worry about if you Use this strategy. They are his club, a strong kick, and the icy breathe attack. Don’t get close (or let him get close) and you won’t have to worry about these attacks. The other three are your problem. The fourth is no big deal. He takes a.....staff I guess....of lightning, and sticks it into the ground, causing a line of electricity to go your direction. Easily avoided, and the fire away. The fifth is a big problem. With over 450 HP, this attack kills me in one hit every time, so I’m assuming it will do the same to you. He makes his little "staff" of lightning again, but this time he just throws it at you. Fast and deadly, so dodge and wait for him to use another attack before shooting at him. The final attack, to me, is just a story. I haven’t actually seen him do in the multiple times I’ve fought him, but one of my personal sources told me about it, and I see him as the most reliable source I have aside from my own experience, so I'm adding it in here anyways. He hits the ground with the "staff" like above, but this time, it sends out multiple lines that are spaced evenly, and then they rotate around him in a counter-clockwise direction (that’s to the right below him and the left above him). Just move with the lines, and either spiral in to attack with melee, or spiral out to attack with arrows & spears. If you're good, then potions won’t be needed too much. I only used 7 or 8, but hack-&-slash is my forte, so I’d stock up around 20 the first time, 30 if you like to play it safe. If you're a ranger, and you like to use enchanted arrows, stock up on mana-potions. *********************************************************************** 8) Thanks and Credit Well, none really right now. I guess thanks to my man MSC for the 6th move from the cloud giant king. Ummm.......Thanks to Snowblind and SOE for this great game. *********************************************************************** 9) Legalities I created this combat guide solely by myself, and as such, I do not give permission for anyone to use this guide in any way, shape, or form, without my express permission.
