Foreword / Revisions [A00] | ¯-============================================================================-¯ Dark Cloud is an old game at this point in time--it was released in 2000 or 2001 depending on region. I mention this because I don't play the game anymore meaning recent and upcoming changes will only be based on user-submitted tips and comments. That being said, the contact info section at the end as an email address that is checked regularly so feel free. *** This guide, like most others, is a plain text file that's best viewed with *** a monospace font and at least 80 characters per line. Revision History: ----------------' 3.2: - A few minor formatting tweaks. - Tip from [saturno666@hotmail.it] 3.1: - NeoSeeker granted permission to host this FAQ - Tip about bait from [raistlinreincarnate2@yahoo.com] 3.0: - Mostly cosmetic changes, a few bits of information added here and there. 2.0: - Matataki's Peanut Pond updated and added the carrot to the bait list with info from [jaime_greiner@yahoo.com] and [sunyoh@home.net] 1.0: - Basically the whole guide has been made. A future version will likely have an additional section or two. _-============================================================================-_ | B. Fishing [C00] | ¯-============================================================================-¯ ---------- 1. Getting a Fishing Rod [C10] ---------- To get the fishing rod is fairly easy and, best of all, it's free. All you need is the following Norune Village Atla: • Alnet's House • Cabin • Lamp • Stairway • Llama • Alnet • Carl Now, simply assemble Alnet's house and place it somewhere in Norune Village. All you have to do is go inside and an event will take place where you'll receive a Fishing Rod from Alnet. ---------- 2. How to Fish [C20] ---------- Like fishing in the world world, fishing in Dark Cloud requires patience, first to get the hang of it and afterward to wait for that perfect catch. Here are some steps that will help you get on your way a bit faster: • First, don't forget to bait your hook by pressing O (circle) and choosing some bait from your inventory. • Next, move to a spot where you'd like to cast and press X (cross) to cast your line (NOTE: The Fishing Rod -MUST- be in your inventory). • Wait. When a fish seems interested, wait until the bobber is -COMPLETELY- submerged and then press X (cross) to reel the fish in. (NOTE: Using the DUALSHOCK's vibration can be very helpful). • If you're short on cash, you can attempt to save your bait from being stolen by immediately pulling your line in if a fish is nibbling but not biting (nibbling is indicated by very slight movement in the bobber). • Finally, if you find trouble getting a fish's attention, you can try and use the Left Analog stick to move your line around a bit and hopefully rouse some interest. ---------- 3. Bait [C30] ---------- There are various types of bait, even oddly including Bomb Nuts, that can be found, bought, and sold in Dark Cloud. Of particular note is Poisonous Apples as only one fish likes them--the Mardan Garayan--and they are the only bait the Mardan Garayan likes. ,------------------------------------------------------------------------------, | Batton | Negie, Niler | |--------------------+---------------------------------------------------------| | Bomb Nuts | Negie, Niler, Nonky, Baku Baku* | |--------------------+---------------------------------------------------------| | Carrot | Umadakara | |--------------------+---------------------------------------------------------| | Evy | Piccoly, Kaji | |--------------------+---------------------------------------------------------| | Gooey Peach | Negie, Nonky | |--------------------+---------------------------------------------------------| | Mimi | Gummy | |--------------------+---------------------------------------------------------| | Minon | Negie, Niler, Nonky | |--------------------+---------------------------------------------------------| | Petite Fish | Baku Baku, Hama Hama, Heela | |--------------------+---------------------------------------------------------| | Poisonous Apple | Mardan Garayan | |--------------------+---------------------------------------------------------| | Potato Cake | Baron Garayan, Den, Gummy, Heela, Nonky | |--------------------+---------------------------------------------------------| | Prickly | Gummy | |--------------------+---------------------------------------------------------| | Throbbing Cherry | Den, Gummy, Negie, Nonky | `------------------------------------------------------------------------------` *[raistlinreincarnate2@yahoo.com] sent me an email claiming to have caught a Baku Baku at Peanut Pond with Bomb Nuts as bait. ---------- 4.
