In the world of Dark Cloud, your weapon is your life. If you invest time and effort into a weapon, you better protect that weapon, or else YOU WILL BE UNBELIEVABLY SCREWED. Strangely, your life is expendable, but your weapon is definitely not. So, this guide will hopefully assist you in acquiring the best weapons in the game quickly, and will also provide an outline to follow from the very start of the game. Enjoy. Send suggestions, tips, comments, and corrections to me at murdoc7187@hotmail.com. WEAPON ABILITIES Some unique weapons in Dark Cloud have special abilities that affect your game status when you use and fight with them. Most special abilities that you get are already on weapons that you find in dungeons or obtain from townsfolk. But, through the processing of synthspheres, which you learn about in the game, you can pass special abilities on to other weapons. For those who don't know, once you level up your weapon to +5 or higher, you can make a synthsphere out of it on the weapon menu. The synthsphere is essentially a weaker, attachable version of the weapon itself. You can basically seal 60% of the weapon's power into an attachment that you can place onto a new weapon. You can take a weapon, turn it into a synthsphere, and attach it to another desired weapon, thus giving the new weapon a quick boost of power while not really wasting your old one. With that out of the way, here are the weapon abilities. Drain- Detracts life points from your enemies when you use the weapon. Heal- Heals a few life points from your enemies when you use the weapon. Quench- Refills your thirst meter gradually when you use the weapon. Thirst- Depletes your thirst meter more quickly when you use the weapon. Big Bucks- Increases the amount of money you find from defeated monsters. Poor- Decreases the amount of money you find from defeated monsters. Durable- Increases the durability of the weapon, making it harder to break. Fragile- Decreases the durability of the weapon, making it easier to break. Critical- I haven't encountered a weapon with this ability, but I think it increases the number of critical hits during combat, resulting in higher damage. Steal- May steal random items from monsters during combat. Stop- I'm not sure, I haven't found one with stop, but I assume it temporarily freezes an enemy, or stops time altogether which gives the same effect. AbsUp- Increases the amount of earned Abs you receive from defeated monsters. Poison- May inflict the poison ailment on enemies during combat. Some good weapons with abilities are... Toan's Drain Seeker (Drain) Xiao's Angel Shooter (Heal) Goro's Trial Hammer (Poor & AbsUp) Ungaga's Scorpion (Poison). Ruby and Osmond have no notable abilities on any of their weapons. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ( /_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_ /_\_/_\ ) II. BUILDING-UP WEAPONS Weapons can be built up any number of ways. The early ways you can build up weapons into more evolved forms are simple. You must level up your weapon with attachments on them, thus gaining more points in the category that the attachments affect. "????" Will be displayed when you go to the Build-Up category on the Weapon menu until your weapon meets the requirements. The categories in red are the requirements that your weapon does not meet. You must keep upgrading each stat with attachments and level ups until all the requirements are made and the build-up feature can be carried out. To level up early, the attachments you should put on your weapon should affect the creature stats of the weapon mostly, or you can boost the attack, magic, speed, or endurance stats. If you attach monster attachments (e.g. Beast Buster) for creature types, your weapon's effectiveness against those creatures will increase, signified by an increase in the number of that particular creature stat when you view your weapon. You can also place attachments like "Attack +3" or "Speed +1" to increase those particular stats. However, as you progress through the game and need to acquire the more powerful weapons, you will need to increase the elemental magic of your weapons. Fire, Ice, Thunder, Wind, and Holy attributes must be increased as well for the evolution of the most powerful weapons. You can attach orbs of the given element type by using the obvious "fire" orbs to power up the fire stat and so on. Later in the game, you can quickly build weapon strength with rare gems that improve multiple stats at one time. Gems are covered in the "VI. Leveling Up Your Weapons" section of this FAQ. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ( /_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_ /_\_/_\ ) III. BUILD-UP FLOW CHART Whew! With that out of the way, we can proceed to the weaponry flow charts for each character. The following charts show the weapons and what they evolve into, as well as how strong they are compared to each other. The leftmost weapon is the beginning evolution of the chain, and the weapons get stronger and better as you move to the right. RECOMMENDED PATH TO ULTIMATE WEAPONS These are the quickest ways to the best ultimate weapon for each character, and why each is the quickest way. TOAN Wise Owl Sword > Lamb's Sword > Atlamillia Sword > Chronicle Sword You can get the Wise Owl Sword as early as Matataki Village, after you complete the Wise Owl Shop in Georama mode. The old owl who runs the shop will sell it to you for 2,500 gilda. So, from early on in the Wise Owl Forest Dungeon, you can start leveling up your sword. By the end of the Shipwreck Dungeon, you should have the Lamb's Sword almost evolved into the Atlamillia Sword. And after about another hour of leveling up, you should get the Chronicle Sword. With this method, I got the Chronicle Sword at hour 21 before I got to Muska Lacka and the Sun & Moon Temple. XIAO Bandit Slingshot > Double Impact > Divine Beast Title > Angel Shooter > Angel Gear The Double Impact can be found early in the Sun & Moon temple, but it will be more beneficial to level up the weapon from the Bandit Slingshot. It will make the evolutions faster and easier to obtain if you start with a more basic weapon. Xiao's ultimate path takes the longest, because she doesn't have a quick jump from level 2 to level 4 weapons. It takes a while, but it shouldn't be hard if you follow the tips in the "Leveling Up" section of this FAQ. GORO Battle Axe > Satan's Axe > Inferno This is very easy to get. You can get the Battle Axe when you get 100 % on everything in Georama mode in Matataki Village. With leveling up on Shipwreck, provided you ONLY use gems to increase your weapon stats, Satan's Axe is easy to get, and Inferno doesn't take that much longer. RUBY Platinum Ring > Crystal Ring > Goddess Ring > Athena's Armlet > Secret Armlet Platinum Rings can be purchased for 600 gilda in Queens at the weapon shop after you finish the shop and view the event. Leveling up takes a while for Ruby and the evolutions require a lot of magic points and element points. This evolution chain took me the longest to do, but again, the Shipwreck is the place to level up, and ONLY use gems to power-up with. UNGAGA Halberd > Scorpion > Cactus > Terra Sword > Babel's Spear You can either find a Halberd in the Sun & Moon temple, or you can get 100 % in everything in Georama mode in Muska Lacka. This evolution chain requires a lot of attack and endurance, since the starting endurance of Ungaga's weapons are terrible. The attack will be the hardest to meet the requirements for. As with everyone else, level up in the backfloors of the Shipwreck and it's really easy to evolve. OSMOND Jackal > Swallow > G Cruhser > Starbreaker Buy the Jackal from the bunny guy in Moon Drops for 3,000 gilda. It takes only a few gems to boost weapon attributes and the monster stats. No elemental magic needed. Swallow is very easy to evolve to, and G Crusher follows VERY shortly after. Then, a little boost of attack and some Stone Breakers, and voila! Starbreaker. The Starbreaker is much weaker than the Supernova, but it is much faster since it is a machine gun. I prefer Starbreaker, and it only took me 45 minutes from Jackal to Starbreaker. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ( /_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_ /_\_/_\ ) V. ATTACHMENTS This is a list of the attachments for weapons and what they do for your weapon. I call this first batch the monster attachments, because they boost your weapons effectiveness to certain monster types. You can find these at certain shops, treasure chests in dungeons, from defeated enemies, or treasure chests in towns. Dino Slayer- +3 against dragon and lizard type monsters Undead Killer- +3 against undead and zombie type monsters Sea Hunter- +3 against water type monsters Stone Breaker- +3 against rock type monsters Plant Buster- +3 against plant type monsters Beast Buster- +3 against animal type monsters Sky Hunter- +3 against flying monsters Metal Breaker- +3 against metal monsters Mimic Breaker- +3 against Mimics and King Mimics Mage Slayer- +3 against witches and mages The next list is gems, the much better choice of upgrading weapons. You can obtain gems from backfloors from dungeons, fishing, or buying them from Simba at Dark Heaven Castle late in the game. Amethyst- +10 Ice Magic, +10 Dragon Stat, +10 Mage Stat Aquamarine- +10 Ice Magic, +10 Sky Stat, +10 Sea Stat Diamond- +5 each Monster Stat, additional +5 to Steel Stat Emerald- +10 MP Stat, +10 Dragon Stat, +10 Plant Stat Garnet- +5 ATT, +10 Fire Magic, +10 Beast Stat, +10 Stone Stat Opal- +10 END, +10 Metal Stat, +10 Mage Stat Pearl- +10 END, +10 Thunder Magic, +10 Undead Stat Peridot- +5 ATT, +10 Holy Magic, +10 Beast Stat, +10 Plant Stat Ruby- +10 SP, +10 Fire Magic, +10 Mimic Stat Sapphire- +10 MP, +10 Wind Magic, +10 Sky Stat Topaz- +5 ATT, +10 SP, +10 Undead Stat, +10 Sky Stat Turquoise- +10 Ice Magic, +10 Stone Stat, +10 Mimic Stat *Sun- +10 ATT, +10 to each Magic Element, +3 each Monster Stat *Note: Sun can only be acquired by completing the trading sequence. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ( /_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_ /_\_/_\ ) VI. LEVELING UP WEAPONRY This section will provide tips on how to efficiently level up weapons. 1. Level up on the backfloor of LV. 17 on the Shipwreck. For 200 gilda, you can buy a Flapping Fish and an Ice Block from Ruty's Store in Queens. Take them to the Shipwreck and enter the backfloor. The enemies on this backfloor are very easy to destroy, and give around 24 ABS each. Thus, beating everyone on the backfloor and on the regular floor, you can earn around 200 ABS per visit. And another super reason to level up on this floor is the good chance that you will find a Gem in one of the chests there. I find at least one gem every time I go to the backfloor. Leveling up Toan from his Wise Owl Sword to the Chronicle Sword took only two hours with this method. And Osmond's Jackal to the Starbreaker took only 45 minutes. 2. If you have a weapon that you need to evolve, and you find another weapon of the same kind, break the weapon you had been leveling up into a synthsphere and put it on the duplicate weapon. It goes much faster and the drawback of 60% of the original weapon's power isn't that bad because the starting stats of the new weapon balance it out. 3. Add many abilities and attachments on one synthsphere. You can compound abilities on weapons by breaking weapons with abilities into synthspheres, attaching the synthsphere to another weapon with an ability on it, and then breaking that weapon into a sphere. Thus, two abilities get on one synthsphere. It is awesome when you have a Chronicle Sword with BigBucks, Quench, AbsUp, Steal, and Stop on it. 4. Get all the chests on backfloors before upgrading your weapon! This can save tons of time. Make sure you check all the chests on the floor before you upgrade your weapon, because you might find better attachments to put on your weapons. For example, I need 10 Steel Stat Points to get my Atlamillia Sword to evolve into a Chronicle Sword. I leveled up my weapon so much that I needed 500 ABS to upgrade it. I upgraded, then got the last chest on the backfloor of Shipwreck LV. 17. I opened the chest, and out popped a Diamond, which would've got me enough to evolve my sword into a Chronicle Sword right then. But instead, I had to level it up one more time and waste 15 minutes. Use this tip always! 5. This is a very important strategy for fast level ups. Ok, first, get Osmond's ultimate weapon, the Starbreaker. It doesn't matter who you need to level up, the strategy is always the same. Go through LV.17 of the Shipwreck with Osmond, blasting all the enemies with his machine gun. You can pinpoint damage and get each enemy to near dead. If you need to do a little damage to weaken but not kill the enemy, just scoot further away from the enemy and fire from far away for weaker damage. Then, after weakening every enemy on the floor, just switch to the character you want to level up. No matter what weapon they are using, they can kill the enemies in one hit. This strategy makes it really easy to level up the incredibly weak Xiao and the slow and awkwardly-timed Goro. Using the aforementioned strategies, leveling up to the ultimate weapons for each character should be easy and quick. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ( /_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_/_\_ /_\_/_\ ) VII.
