Save Points are indicated by red shields surrounded by red rings. Just hit X when Max/Monica is near the save point. You can save your game into the desired memory card slot. You can hit Triangle to save your game while viewing the dungeon listing screen. x) Getting Items/Open Chests ```````````````````````````````````` The idea is similar to Final Fantasy IX. You will find a ! icon appearing on top of your active character's head. Hit X to explore the item. Chests position are not fixed in dungeons or cities. They appear randomnly. Minature chests contains power-up items such as Fruit of Eden (increases max HP), Potato Pie (increases Max's defence) and Witch's Parifact (increases Monica's defence). These items appears after you completed a story event (for Chapter 1) and as for subsequent chapters, you need to complete the Georama Conditions. You can also get items from destroying crates/rocks/vases found in dungeons. This can be done by using R1 + X to lift up the item and X again to throw the item. ------------- II --------------- D u n g e o n B a s i c s -------------------------------- The objective of clearing dungeons is to get an item called "Gate Key", which appears differently for different dungeons. The Gate Key is held by one of the monsters in the area. Defeat it and you will able to obtain it. Next, you need to locate the exit (indicated by a large yellow dot) and use the key (activate the item sub-menu with Square button and select the item). The dungeon maps are randomnly generated. The location of the exit is random and even the chests are random. Heck, almost everything is random except for the type of monsters appearing in the area. i) Attacking ````````````````````````````````````` Dark Cloud 2 battle system is unique as compared to traditional RPGs. It has some resemblance with Kingdom Hearts' battle system. You can control your character to move freely on the battlefield and access the menu at the same time. Max starts with his Battle Wrench, a short range weapon. He will get his projectile weapon - a gun-type weapon from Donny after you have completed Prelude. Monica starts with the sword as you have seen her taking it at the Prelude. Her long-range weapon is using magic. All these commands can be ONLY used while in Dungeons. >> Combo Hit This can be done with the character's right-hand weapon i.e. the short range weapon. You can do combo strikes by hit the X button repeatedly as your character attacks the enemy. The chain lasts for a maximum of 5 hits. You will end the last hit with a knock-down attack. The combo hit differs depends on the weapon that your character is using. The damage dealt will progressively increase with the number of hits. >> Charged Attack To do a charged attack, you just need to hold down the X button and release it for your character to release a heavy hit. You can even hit aerial targets surrounding your character. >> Final Blow Lock on the target and tap the left analog stick towards the target and hit X. The character will deal a jumping leap with a swing of the weapon, dealing heavy damage. >> Backflip Lock on the target and tap the left analog stick away the target and hit X. Your character will do a flying backflip that separates him/her away from the target. Please note while in mid-air your character is vulunerable to all sorts of attacks. * Magic-Absorb Blade (Monica ONLY) Magic-Absorb Blade is a skill that allows you to absorb the energy of elemental attacks, such as Fire, while guarding. When you swing your sword with X button, it fires back as magic. You can continuously charge up energy of 1 elemental type. If you absorb a different element type, Monica lose the magic that she stocked up. For example if you stock up 3 fire spells from an enemy, you absorbs a chill spell, you will lose all your previous fire spells that you have stocked earlier. The amount of elemental energy you can absorb depends on the durability of your equipped weapon. The weapon's durability will improve as Monica levels up and you will find more slots appearing on her weapon icon. (The slots are indicated by white dots) To release absorbed elemental energy in the form of magic, press L1 while guarding with R1. * Throw (close-ranged only, Max/Monica only) You can grab objects and hurl them at targets. This can be done by holding R1 and hit X to grab the object. Hit X again to throw the object. You can even throw enemies (of course, not for monster that are over-sized). Throw objects at enemies may cost enemies to get stunned, where you can hurl all your attacks on the unguarded enemy! ii) Restore attributes - HP/Fuel/WPN ````````````````````````````````````````` You can activate the main menu while in dungeons. You can use items from item holders by toggle the cursor on the item with D-Pad and Square button to use the item. There are 3 important statistic attribute- Hit Points, Fuel, Weapon Points >> Hit Points (HP) To restore hit points, you must give your character healing items such as Bread, Mellow Banana, Pointy Chestnut, etc. Some items will increase Max or Monica's thrist, thus you need to drink Tasty Water, etc. As the characters do not level up in this game, you can only increase Max/Monica's HP by giving him/her the Fruit of Eden, which is extremely rare and hard to get. You can also increase defences by giving Max a Potato Pie and giving Monica a Witch's Parfait. Once a character is KO'd in a dungeon, you will be bought to the character selection screen to select a fightable character. Fallen characters will be revived back to full health upon exiting the dungeon. You can revived a fallen character by using a Ressurrection Powder, which is only available in dungeons for Chapter 7 onwards or via Spheda. >> Fuel This applies to Ridepod only. Ridepod's HP is indicated by fuel gauge. You can refuel his energy source (i.e. fuel gauge) by using a Ridepod Fuel. The Ridepod Fuel can be obtained from treasure chests or crates in dungeons. You can also visit Cedric, who is located at the workshop (prior to Chapter 1) or locomotive (Sindain, Chapter 2). You can also use his character ability while having him in your party. You can buy Ridepod Fuel from Morton's Sundries for 2000 Glidas from Chapter 5 onwards. You can upgrade Ridepod's Energy Pack upon more discoveries through the Make Menu. >> WPN Points WPN points actually represents the lifeblood of your weapons. Once it reaches 0, the weapon will deal zero damage or No Effect, rendering it becoming useless. You can however restore the power by using Repair Powder items. Repair Powder restores Melee weapons for Max, Monica & Ridepod. Gun Repair Powder fixes range weapons for Max and Ring Repair Powder fixes range weapons for Monica. WPN points will decrease as you uses the weapon. The deteoriation rate will decrease if you improve the weapon's durability. You can also fix weapons via Cedric's NPC aid. iii) Reading Dungeon Map Indicators ````````````````````````````````````````` Below is a chart that shows what the indicators show: _____________________________________________________________________ |Indicators |What it represents? | |--------------------|------------------------------------------------| |Large Green Dot |Floor Entrance | |--------------------|------------------------------------------------| |Large Yellow Dot |Floor Exit | |--------------------|------------------------------------------------| |Yellow Dot |Treasure Chest/Mimics/Traps* | |--------------------|------------------------------------------------| |Glowing Yellow Dot |Coin Spot** | |--------------------|------------------------------------------------| |Purple Dot |Geostone | |--------------------|------------------------------------------------| |Red Dot |Enemy | |--------------------|------------------------------------------------| |Large ? |Healing Spring | |--------------------|------------------------------------------------| |White Dot |Proceed to undeground. If you succeed in completing the dungeon within that condition, you will get a Medal, which will be kept in the Medal Holder. SEALS - this indicate the special dungeon conditions ______________________________________________________________________ |Seal Type |What it means? | |----------------|-----------------------------------------------------| |Red |Maximillian/Ridepod cannot be used for the stage. | |----------------|-----------------------------------------------------| |Blue |Monica or her transformations cannot be used for the | | |stage. | |----------------|-----------------------------------------------------| |White |No status/HP recovery items can be used. The medals can be exchanged with Mayor Need (provided you have recruited the Mayor) >> Time Limit to Attack and defeat all enemies: XX:XX Defeat all the enemies in the dungeon within the XX:XX time limit. To fish, you need to located water filled areas. >> Attack and Attack and defeat all enemies without HEALING You must not use any healing items on any of 4 playable characters. NPC support healing is also considered invalid. HP gained from Drain or Slow Heal enfused weapons is considered legal... >> Attack and Attack and defeat all enemies using only ITEMS. You should not use any weapons such as melee/ranged-types and only items for attacking. Please note that this also includes Ridepod. You can however use objects that can grab and throw as a weapon. Get a lot of "Improved Bombs", bombs made from Erik (NPC), which could set for large amount of cash or do massive damage. >> Attack and defeat all enemies using MAX'S RIGHT-HAND WEAPON MAX'S GUN MONICA'S SWORD MONICA'S MAGIC RIDEPOD MONSTER TRANSFORMATION This is a hard condition to fulfil. When it says using a specific weapon, you must be using that weapon to attack EVERYTIME. Every hit must used from that attack. Although only the last hit gains experience points for the weapon, you must be using only specific weapons. You are not allow to use items to assist you in attacking. GEORAMA MATERIALS Sometime in Chapter 2, with the aid of the Firbits from Sindain, Max will be able to built objects of the past and place in the current place via Georama system. You can get supplies for fixing up from chests in the dungeon. Just hit Triangle button to view Georama listing after you have view the dungeon status condition. The appearance of these materials are random and you can get them by defeating monsters there or opening chests in that dungeon. GEOSTONE The Geostone contains past data about that particular place and allows you to build new objects such as new type of buildings, pier, etc. These egg-shaped mystical rocks will available upon saving the Firbits from the "Holy One's curse" at Great Fish Swamp. The Geostone is essential for Georama as it helps you to unlock conditions and build new objects. vi) Special Dungeon Items ````````````````````````````````````````` Within the dungeon, you can find special dungeon-specific items used in the dungeon. They can be "keys" to the exit, map, keys to access other areas within the dungeon, etc. "Keys" - Key Handle, Channel Key, Slash Branch, Fairy Saw, etc. These allows you to access to newer/locked dungeons or locked areas within the dungeon. Upon completing Geroma Conditions for Tailor Shop in Chapter 2, you can purchase the first monster badge from the Tailor Shop in the future. Once you have the badges, you will be able to transform Monica into an enemy monster! >> Attacks, Status, Hit Points, etc The monster transformation comes with the monster's skill which can be used by hit X (melee) or Square (range). Exchange it from | | |Donny. Does not allow Monica to be transformed into a | |Chapter: |new type of monster. It allows a transformed monster to | |- |have higher attacking power and defense. | |------------|--------------------------------------------------------| Other Methods? ---------------- Well, it is true that you can get these badges by using it on different enemies:- Ram - Give a Gift Capsule of 3 Premium Chicken (Beast) Goyone - Give a Gift Capsule of 3 Evy (Aquatic) iii) Monsters Stats `````````````````````````````````````````````` The stats below represents the monster's initial stats and their attack abilities. Upon gaining a certain left, the monsters level up and it can be transformed into a stronger monster. The stats below are the maximum stats that you can achieve for that monster class. Monsters can evolved up to the maximum of 4 times - lv 26, lv 51, lv 76. You can build up the monster up to level 99 at most. iv) Status Bar regarding Monster `````````````````````````````````````````````` It takes 100 experience points for the monster to gain to the next level. The monster's initials are extremely weak for the moment that you get them. My advice is to kill the enemies with Monica and switch to the Monster. Monica can transform for short period of time indicated by the red status bar. Monster class can be further upgraded when the monster reaches a certain level and there are open paths. For example, Sewer Rat can transform into either Ram or Beach Rat after gaining a certain level. If you reach the ultimate class for Sewer Rat (Beast) - Death Mouse, you can be awarded with bonuses such as gems & special items. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ R i d e p o d B a s i c s ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Steve the Ridepod joins at Underground Channel in Chapter 1. Steve is a mechanical robot used by Max to engage battles with larger size enemies. You can change its parts and upgrade its capabilities by changing its parts. Body Armor - It allows the "body" of Ridepod. It is the main armor. Core - It allows you to use Shield Kits to improve Ridepod's defense. You can upgrade the core and it can not be discarded. The core supports a limited number of Shield Kits. Advanced Cores can hold more Shield Kits. - It's capacity determines on what type of parts can be equipped and how many Shield Kits that you can equip. Legs - You can change to roller skates, propellers even a buggy! It helps to improve movement of Ridepod Energy Pack - It represents Ridepod's Hit Points. You can upgrade this by getting advanced versions of the energy pack. You will use fuel for movement of Ridepod on the battlefield. i.e. fuel decreases gradually as you move with Ridepod on the battlefield. You can refuel with Ridepod Fuel obtained from dungeons or bought from Morton's Sundries (Chapter 5 onwards) / G-Parts (Gundorara Workshop, Chapter 5) for 2000 Glidas. You can also get them from Cedric for 2000 EXP. Weapon - The weapons used by Ridepod cannot be upgraded manually. You can get upgraded versions by exchanging EXP points with Cedric/ G-Parts. Most of stronger versions can be obtained from via Make Menu. You can repair Weapons by using Repair Powder (a portion only) or visit Cedric and choose "Repair Ridepod Parts". To make Ridepod stronger, you must let gain more EXP from defeating enemies and receiving those blue energy crystals with Ridepod. EXP are essential to exchange for better parts and equipment for Ridepod. For the listing of Ridepod's parts and weapons, please refer to Item Bestiary. -------------- III -------------- C a m e r a B a s i c s --------------------------------- i) Camera and The Album ````````````````````````````````````````` Surprisingly, the camera is one of the most important objects in the game. It allows you to capture nifty photos for your album and also use the photos as a basis for Make menu where Maximillian can create new inventions based on 3 photographs. The camera will be given to you mid-way in Chapter 1 after Cedric has requested Max to make a Energy Pack for his new mechanic buddy, Ridepod. In Chapter 2, Max is able to get the Album book from his bedroom in Palm Brinks. The Album allows you to store 50 photos instead. You can store a maximum of 80 photos. The 50 photos require you to save on another file for an additional 409KB on your memory card. ii) Using the Camera ```````````````````````````````````````` First of all, the camera needed to be equip on one of the item slot. You can take pictures while even in dungeons or towns. For towns, just hit Square to activate Camera Mode. While in dungeons, make the Camera is highlighted while it is equiped on the item slot, hit Square to enter camera mode. If other 2 items is highlighted instead, you will end up using that item. >> Camera Controls during Camera Mode Button What it does? ```````` ```````````````````````````````````````````````````````` Square Capture the shot. You can capture a maximum of 30 shots L Analog Move camera view Triangle Keep camera view still/ view the Camera Album menu Circle Exit Camera view mode R Analog Up (Zoom In) / Down (Zoom Out) iii) Transferring Photo Shots to Ideas Book ``````````````````````````````````````````````````` As there is a limited capacity of photos that you can took with your camera (i.e. 30 photos), you need to store them in the Ideas Album, which accessible automatically from Camera Mode. You can delete useless or transfer ideal photos into your album.
