Walkthrough =============================================================================== Story of Devil May Cry (from the DMC web site): -------------------------------------------------- "2000 years ago, according to legend, while snow was falling on a clear, freezing day on Earth, a fierce devil prince was born deep in the darkest pit of the netherworld. Within a short time he gained his full powers and took over the Devil Throne. His first act as a ruler of all devils was to declare himself emporer of the Devil Kingdom. His next feat was an invasion of the human world. His plan was to conquer it and rule over both the lower and upper realms. But a powerful devil-knight known as Sparda took pity on the humans for their brief, transient lives. He defeated all the Devil ruler's armies and finally imprisoned the emporer himself in a sealed vault. Having achieve his victory, Sparda abandoned the Devil Kingdom to live in the human world. He married a human woman and soon fathered a half devil, half human son. But beware mankind. After 200 years, the cursed Devil Emporer will be released and will return to invade the human world once again. Sparda's son must be our protector!" NOTICE: This guide DOES contain game spoilers, especially towards the end of the walkthrough/end game. If you do not wish to be spoiled by the guide, then do not read it unless you are absolutely stuck. Don't say I didn't warn you... -- Begin Walkthrough ---------------------------------------------------------- Begin by following the path, until you see a giant, yellow-glowing orb to your left. Approach it, and Dante will take it. This is the YELLOW ORB. Once you have it, continue following the path until you enter the castle, and begin your first mission. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mission 1: Curse of the Bloody Puppets ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Break the evil spell and open the cursed door.] Start this mission by running to the right of the large staircase, and jumping into the air to grab the RED ORBS near the staircase, then take the RED ORBS that are across the staircase, near a blue-ish door. Head up the stairs and go right, and snatch the RED ORBS at the top. Go right, since there's no other way to go, and approach the Statue of Time, and jump to get the RED ORBS above it. Now examine the Statue of Time, and read what it has to say. It says you should unseal the door beneath it before it responds, so return to the 1st floor and approach the door beneath the Statue (it's a giant, glowing red door). After examining the red door, it says you need 45 Red Orbs to open it, so return back upstairs to the Statue of Time, and hop on top of it, then jump onto the next floor, where you will see more RED ORBS. Continue to the right, and follow the catwalk around the floor and grab every RED ORB that's lying around. By the time you reach the dead end, you should have about 36 Red Orbs, total. Go back to the Statue of Time, and jump across to the other side of the Statue. Follow the catwalk around to the left, and make the first leap across the chasm, then the second leap onto the lower floor, where more RED ORBS are waiting. Take them all, then go back down to the 1st floor, and use 45 RED ORBS to open the red door. Enter it. Once in the next room, approach the 4 knight armors on the wall, and slash them with your sword to get a BLUE ORB FRAGMENT and some RED ORBS. Now enter the small door next to the door you entered the room in. In this room, head to Dante's left, and go up the winding stairs until you reach the top, and enter the room. Examine the puppet on the floor, and as you pass it, the camera will focus on the RED ORB in the room above. Jump onto the bookcase near the puppet and jump into the room above you. Take the RED ORBS at the top, then examine the standing puppet with a yellow item in it's hand. Take the RUSTY KEY. Now take the RED ORB on the table, then hop down back through the hole in the floor and go back to the 2nd floor. Kill the now-alive puppet down here, then enter the only other door you haven't entered, near the puppet. In here, approach the large central platform, and examine it to see that there are 3 slots to put items into the platform. Hop into the water to the left of the platform to find a BLUE ORB FRAGMENT, then hop back out of the water. You can't do anything else in this room for now, so remember it for later, then fight your way back to the main room on the 1st floor (where the giant staircase is). Locate the blue-ish door across from the giant staircase, and use the RUSTY KEY on the door to unlock it and proceed to enter it. In the bi-plane room, there are some hanging puppets on the ceiling, and another large door near where you enter. Try to open the door, and it tells you that there will be no admittance as long as it's 17 masters are here. Hop onto the bi-plane, and take the BLUE ORB FRAGMENT. Approach the emblem towards the back of the room, and attack it with your sword as much as you can, until the writing on the emblem completely fills up, in which case, you will be lowered into another room filled with enemies. Destroy them all, then return back up the small lift and into the bi-plane room, where more baddies await. Kill them all, and the door nearby door will become unlocked. Enter it to clear the first mission. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mission 2: Judge of Death ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Open the door to the cathedral.] Immediately after the mission begins, several Marionettes will drop down. Kill them, grab the Red Orbs, and enter the door just in front of you. Smash the table just inside the door for some Red Orbs. Run over to the table near the statue and smash it for the only Blue Orb fragment in this mission. I'd suggest waiting until you acquire the Alastor Sword before you buy anything, though. Exit the room, and follow the corridor, killing all of the Marionettes along the ways and taking the Red Orbs they leave behind, until you reach the end of the path. Examine the sword stuck in the wall. That sword is Alastor. You'll acquire it as a weapon after it stabs Dante. Fortunately for Dante, he's half- demon, so he survives it. Enter the door on the left. Jump up to the next level. Examine the painting on the wall to receive the Rusty Key you need for the door down the corridor. Turn around, and smash the table to receive the shotgun, a.k.a. 'The Boomstick'. Now, equip it. Jump down and smash the table near the entrance for some Red Orbs. Exit the room, and run down the corridor, but don't stop at the locked door. Continue all the way down the hall until you reach the room with the statue in it. Now that you have Alastor, it's time to purchase a special ability. In order to collect one of the Blue Orb fragments of the next mission, and to help you beat the boss in the next mission as well, choose to learn the Stinger Level 1, which is probably the only one you can afford at this point anyhow. Exit the room and open the locked door down the corridor. Once inside, kill off the Marionettes and grab the Red Orbs. When finished, jump up to the right side of the upper level of the room, and enter the door. Kill the Marionettes that appear. You'll notice what appears to be a god statue. An engraving will read "A god stands before thee. To open the path, use thy strength to drive it back." So do just that. Use your sword to shove the god statue out of the way. Press X when it has been moved, and you'll drop into a small room. Grab the Staff of Judgment, and exit the room via the newly revealed door. Before you can leave this room, however, you must face several Sin Scissors. Kill them, preferably using your boomstick, gather the Red Orbs, and the cursed door will open. Exit the room. You'll recognize this area as where you acquired Alastor. Use your gun, or step on them if you'd like, to dispose of the spiders on the ground. They won't hurt you, but they give Red Orbs when they're killed. Press X near the statue and the Judge of Death will be given the Staff of Judgment, and thus, you complete the mission. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mission 3: Destroyer of Ardor ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Overcome the trial and aquire the "Pride of the Lion."] Approach the giant alter in this room, and examine it. The stone on the alter will unlock the central door. Exit out this door, and go outside. Once outside, follow the path to the end, and take all of the RED ORBS that are out here, then examine both the central stone and the plaque behind it. Read what they say, then head back across the bridge, only to fall into an underwater area. Follow the path quickly, since your health slowly drops as you run through the water, and kill the skulls in the main area. Once they're gone, stand on the center circle, and you'll be returned back to the bridge outside. Now the bridge has been fragmented greatly, so you can go back to the other side by hopping from platform to platform, but this is very difficult to do. Another way to get from side to side is to jump into the water, killing the skulls again, then beaming back up. Everytime you do this, you'll end up on a different side (either the castle-side or the side opposite of the castle). Go back to the area where you got the RED ORBs, and you will find a BLUE ORB FRAGMENT. Now go back into the castle, and you'll find that the PRIDE OF LION emblem will now be available for your taking on the main alter. Take it, and experience your first real boss battle of the game. ----------- - PHANTOM - ----------- This guy is a royal pain in the ass, since he blocks most of your attacks, and has a wide-variety of attacks to get you with. He'll start off by charging at you, and block your attacks with his fangs. But don't worry, because every once in a while he'll open up to attack and expose his face (where you want to attack), so when he does, slash at him with your sword, then quickly back off, because he'll retaliate with an attack very fast. Try to stay away from him as much as you can while still shooting at him with your gun(s), but when he closes in on you, attack with your sword. If he backs you into the wall, simple jump over him to get out of the way. His next attack will be making fire shoot up from the ground. Nothing you can do here, except run and dodge the fire. When he does this, he's mostly exposed, so if you can get near him while he's summoning the fire, then by all means do so and attack. Another attack he has is an exploding fireball that he shoots from his mouth. You'll know that he's about to do this, because he'll open up for a short period of time before shooting the fireball. You can usually get in a few good hits here, but if you take too long, the explosion will throw you backwards and do some good damage to good old Dante. Also, this boss will slash at you if you come in too close, which isn't so bad, since while he's slashing at you, his face is exposed, and you can get off some good hits while he's busy attacking you, and those attacks aren't that strong, so you can afford to take 'em as you deal out your own damage. After the fight ends, exit through the door you came into when you began this mission, and Mission 3 will end. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mission 4: Black Knight ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Display one's strength to the Lion and open the path. Acquire the "Melancholy Soul".] Go back into the hallway where you got the Alastor sword, and enter the central door to return back outside, where the fountain is. Approach the Lion's head near the fountain, and use the PRIDE OF LION on it, then attack the Lion until 2 Sin Scythes attack. Defeat them, and the lion door above the Lion statue will become unlocked. Enter it. Defeat the Marionettes in here, then climb the staircase all the way to the top, and examine the small platform. It says there's a sword that rests at the highest place, so you need to find a sword here. Jump off the ledge and land at the very BOTTOM of this area, where a small circle lies on the floor, and another symbol-cirle is on the wall. Attack it to make the Kanji light up, and once all of it is lighted up, the central circle on the floor will turn red. Stand on it, and it will become a rising platform that will take you to the top of this area, where a new sword lies, the DEATH SENTENCE. Take it, then hop down a few flights of stairs, and enter the double doors. In here you'll find a female statue that's glowing. Examine it, and use the Death Sentence on it when prompted. Take the MELANCHOLY SOUL that drops. Watch the freaky cut-scene, then hop on top of the bed to find some hidden RED ORBS. You can also Statue of Time to power up, next to the bed. When you're ready, head outside through the window/door. --------------- - NELO ANGELO - --------------- Surprisingly, this boss fight is easier than the last one, since this guy's attacks are easily defended and simple to forecast. The only real thing he does during the fight is block your attacks, then charge up his own attack and swipe at you with his massive sword. This is easily countered by waiting until he stops blocking your attacks, attacking when he's vulnerable, then jumping out of the way when he swipes at you. Don't try to use any guns, since they don't work on him at all, so your sword is the only way to go. Sometimes he'll teleport around the arena, then charge up a volly of attacks that he'll shoot at you from afar, but you can easily hop out of the way of this attack. After enough damage, he'll teleport to an elevated area of the castle, and summon you to follow him. Do so, and continue fighting wherever you are. He'll move to another area 2 times during the fight, so once you reach the second point where he moves, you'll know that he's almost done for. Your best bet to do the most damage is to use an Alastor technique like Air Raid or Striker, as well as quick jabs and combos when he's vulnerable. After you defeat the Black Knight, the mission ends. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mission 05: Guiding of the Soul ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Go to the destination before the power of the "Melancholy Soul" fades away.] This is a short but sweet mission, and one which you should EASILY get an S-rank on. Begin by defeating the 2-3 Sin Scythes that appear in the courtyard you start out in, then hop back up to where you defeated the Black Knight, jump across the gap, then into the small hole that leads to the door in which you entered this area from Mission 4. You will re-enter the castle, and the bedroom with the odd mirror and Statue of Time in it. Exit this bedroom to re-enter the giant stairwell (where you got the Death Sentence sword), and kill the first Sin Scythe, then jump off the ledge and fall all the way to the bottom of this area. Defeat the rest of the Sin Scythes as fast as you can, then run over to the door with the Lion's head on it, and use the Melancholy Soul item on it to end the mission. It shouldn't take you more than 2 minutes, tops, to finish this mission. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mission 06: Evil of the Waterways ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Defeat the evil guardian and acquire the "Guiding Light".] Oooh...freaky sewers! Head to Dante's right (top of the screen), and approach the light to find a BLUE ORB FRAGMENT that falls from the top of the ceiling. Go back the way you came, and go past the door you came in. Enter the first steel door you encounter, and enter the large pipe room. Run all the way to the other side of the room to find a RUSTY KEY inside a pipe, then defeat the shit-loads of Demon Bugs/Spiders that attack. Once this has been done, the door will become unlocked again, so exit the room. Kill all of the bugs that attack out here, then continue down the corridor, and ignore the small alcove to Dante's left, since it contains lots of Green Orbs that you might need later on. Follow the path to the end, and use the RUSTY KEY on the double steel doors at the end of the path. Follow the path once more, and ignore the alcove in here, since there are more Green Orbs, and follow the path until you reach a bunch of small blue lights on the ground, in which case you'll have to fight a Death Scissors. He'll surround you with a bunch of blue lasers to keep you within his reach, and block most of your attacks with his Scissors, then spin at you with the Scissors. Use your Shotgun to hit him from afar, then attack with your sword when he gets near you. After the fight, you'll hear something shatter, so continue onward to find the GUIDING LIGHT item on a small platform at the end of the path. Take it, and the mission will end. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mission 07: Key of Ardor ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Return to the bedroom before the "Guiding Light" absorbs all of your vitality.] Here's another timed mission, but now your health is at risk, not time. Your goal is to return back upstairs in the castle, and return the Guiding Light item to the bedroom at the top. As you begin this mission, Phantom returns to chase you down. His attacks are the same and his health bar is shorter then before, so if you want an easy 500 Red Orbs, just stick around and defeat him, since you can use the Green Orbs in the alcoves here to heal yourself afterwards, then exit through the double doors. You'll find that the door you entered the sewers with is now locked, and the only way to open it is to defeat another Sin Scissors. Defeat this bad mother- fucker, then head through the now unlocked door to return to the castle tower. Kill the bugs in the tower, then slash at the Kanji Symbol circle to activate the giant Death Sentence red platform/elevator, hop on it, ride it to the top, hop off and onto the main stairwell again, go down the stairs a bit to find the bedroom double doors, enter it, and use the Guiding Light item on the sun statue in the bedroom. Examine the opening that it makes to end the mission. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mission 08: The Legendary Knight Returns ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Activate the mechanism and escape from the rooftop.] Mission 8 doesn't begin right away, which is a bit odd, but it's good because it can give you some time to collect more Red Orbs and do more Secret Missions before beginning Mission 8. I suggest going back to the Pipe room in the castle sewers and doing the "One Eyed Demon" secret mission (see the Secret Missions section in this document for more details). When you're ready, continue down the hallway you started out in after Mission 7 ended, and into the next area, which is a ledge high above the castle's main room. Do a running jump across the gap, and enter the door to begin Mission 8. In this firey room, there's a Statue of Time in the middle, and some Red Orbs on the ledges to the left and right of you. Hop up here and take the Red Orbs, then enter the blue door that's above the green door you came in through. Run forward and hop onto the ledge at the end of this short path. You'll enter an open area, with an open gate. Try to go through the gate, and Phantom will return for one last battle. Use the same tactics as the earlier fight, but this time, you can beat him a different way (albeit a longer way). See that circle in the center of the area? It's glass, so if you make him jump onto it about 5 times, he'll fall through it. Eitherway, he'll fall through the glass after you kill him, and finally die. When this is done, enter the now open gate. Hop down from the ledge, and take the TRIDENT from the ground. Use one of the horse statues to jump off of and onto the ledge above the statues to get some Red Orbs and another Blue Orb Fragment. Once you have these, hop down into the hole inbetween the 2 horse statues. Examine the white shining thingy near where you entered, and slash at it with your sword to cause a drawbridge to lower, and a hole that opens up near the back of the room. You'll also find a corpse near this hole, and it's holding something. Examine it to find the GRENADE GUN. Nice. Now hop into the hole that has opened up. Remember this place? Good. Approach the center alter, and insert the Trident into the area with three holes. A gate will open up. Hop into the water FAST, then enter the door near the ladder. Run past the enemies, and run down the winding stairs, and enter the door at the bottom of the stairs. Once in this room, run through the open gate. If you do this fast enough, you should easily make it before the gate closes. Hop into the water to the right of the gate to find another Blue Orb Fragment, then enter the large steel doors to exit Mission 8. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mission 09: New Strength ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Use the new strength to open the door.] Begin by running across the drawbridge, and as you exit it, the drawbridge will rise up. Continue onward, into the area with the pillars. There are 3 of the pillars in which you can jump onto with a double jump, and by doing so you will get a bunch of Red Orbs. Grab them, and the Devil Star behind the large tombstone in the center of the area, use the Statue of Time here, then head down the long spiral stairs behind the large tombstone, and enter the door at the bottom. Enter the giant courtyard to meet some new enemies: Blades. These guys are like dinosaurs, only with armor. Slash at them to break their armor, then attack until they're dead. There are small Blades and large Blades. Large Blades take much longer to kill, so focus on these ones first. After killing the Blades, go to the right of where you entered the area to find a tombstone. Slash it to find a BLUE ORB FRAGMENT beneath it. There are also tons of Red Orbs scattered around this entire area, as well as a Green Orb above the door you came in through. There's also a yellow orb across from this door. Follow the glowing blue lights on the ground through the open gate. In this next area, climb the ladders on both sides of the area to find another Yellow Orb and a Devil Star, as well as some more Red Orbs. Locate the Kanji Symbol Wall on the second floor, near some Red Orbs, and slash at it to activate some moving platforms. Hop onto the platforms, and follow them until you reach the center platform, and take the IFRIT gauntlets. Yes! Hop down, defeat the Marionettes, then return back the way you came, back into the main courtyard... ----------- - GRIFFON - ----------- This guy is incredibly easy, but you can only use one weapon to defeat him: your Grenade Launcher. Good thing you picked it up while you had the chance, eh? Heh. Anyways, this guy is easy, since his attacks are simple to dodge, and he leaves you wide open for grenade-shots all the time. He has a few attacks that are noteworthy, though: Fire-drop: When he does this, he'll hover around you, then drop tons of balls of fire. This is easy to dodge, since it's painfully obvious when he's about to do it. Just run behind him, and shoot away until he begins another attack. Laser beams: He'll do this most often. You'll know it because when he prepares to do this, a giant red ball of fire will collect in his mouth, and he'll shoot out two long beams of lasers around you, and they'll cut in towards you. Easy to dodge, just jump over them when they get near you. He'll also do this same attack later on in the fight, but the only difference is, is that there will be more lasers and they'll move in a 3-D fashion all around you, and it's tougher to dodge. Fly-By: A variant of the Fire-Drop attack, he'll do the same thing as before, only this time he'll literally fly-over you and drop the fire balls on top of where you're standing. Again, simple to dodge, just run away. Once he's taken enough damage, he'll drop a ton of Red Orbs, go into a seizure, and fly off. Find the door to the right of the door where you found Ifrit (this door now has the blue lights leading to it), and hold down your punch button (usually Square) to charge up a firey attack, and punch the right-torch to light it up, and open the door. Enter it. In this forest-area, defeat all Marionettes and other enemies, then hop onto the central tree-stump to make tons of Red Orbs fall. Take them, then hop onto the ledge that's to the right of the small wooden door to the right of the stump to find a Green Orb if you need it. Now enter the small wooden door. Use the Statue of Time if needed, then run down the stairs and defeat the enemies here. Check the 2 ledges on the opposite sides of this courtyard to find a Yellow Orb on one side, and a Devil Star behind a small tombstone, as well as a Statue that will give up tons of Red Orbs as you attack it. Once you are ready, approach the door at the end of the path and use 200 Red Orbs to unlock it. Enter it to end Mission 09. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mission 10: Canyon of Mist ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Come out of the labyrinth canyon alive.] Kill the Marionettes here, then examine the central tombstone to read a riddle and make a ball of light appear. Follow this light down the left path, and into the next area that looks exactly the same. In each area, you'll have to fight some enemies, then continue following the light. On the first screen, kill the Sin Scythes, and on the second screen, kill the Blades. On each screen, remember to examine the tombstones to get some easy Red Orbs. On the third screen you'll enter another wide area, and here you'll have to fight one Kyklops. Defeat it, and use the Green Orbs around you if you need them. There's also a Holy Water to the left of the gate that unlocks after you beat the Kyklops. Take it, then enter the gate to end this mission. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mission 11: Fate ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Offer the "Chalice" and open the path.] Right when you start this Mission, you'll have to face a Death Scythe sub-boss. This bitch sucks, since she has tons of moves and attacks that will do good damage and confuse you at the same time. Once she's done for, a new platform will appear. Check the area for tons of Red Orbs on the ledges, as well as a Devil Star on the western platform, just off the ledge. There's also a Blue Orb Fragment hidden behind a wall. Use the new platform to float around the area to grab hard to reach Red Orbs, and to reach the ledge leading down to the Blue Orb Fragment. When you're ready, hop into the hole near the door you entered this area in. Defeat the Blade that appears, then use the Statue of Time if needed, and break the wall to the right of the Statue with your grenade gun, and 2 more Blades will appear. Kill them, and another Blue Orb Fragment will appear. Take it, then continue through where the Blades came out of, and hop out of the hole. Take the SIGN OF CHASTITY, then return through the underground area where you fought the blades, and return to the courtyard where you fought the Death Scythe. Enter the door behind the large tree, and head straight, and use the Sign of Chasity on the pedestal to get the CHALICE. After doing this, Nelo Angelo will drop in for another boss battle. He's stronger this time, and will block even more of your attacks, so it might be a good idea to use your Devil Techniques with him. After the battle, jump onto one of the side-ledges, and follow it to the small alcove in front of the pedestal where you go the Chalice. Inside here, place the Chalice into the Knight's Helmet, and the door will become unlocked below you. Hop down and enter the door to end the mission. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mission 12: Ghost Ship ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Go to the deck and head to the Captain's cabin.] Run down the hall, use the Statue of Time if necessary, then kill the Marionettes that appear. Take advantage of the Red Orb Statue to the left of Dante, then hop into the water near the ship. Grab the Red Orbs, and swim into the opening to the side of the ship. Avoid the Blade under here, and surface out of the water. Climb the stairs, and take the NEEDLE GUN and the Devil Star on the floor. Defeat the Blades here, before or after collecting the goodies. Head up the stairs and collect every Red Orb on the main deck, then examine the captain's cabin door, which is locked with some blue flaming swords. This will prompt a Death Scythe to attack, so defeat it, and the door will become unlocked and begin to move itself out of the bay...and the Griffon returns for another boss battle. Use the same tactics as before when fighting the Griffon, and defeat it. If you have the Inferno attack, use it when the Griffon lands, since it works EXTREMELY well on him. Once this has been accomplished, the captain's doors will re-open, so enter them, the mission will end. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mission 13: Abyss ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Find an exit and escape from the ship.] Upon beginning this mission, there is a Statue of Time right next to you, so use if needed, then take the STAFF OF HERMES off the statue. Upon doing this, the ship will begin to sink, making you find a way out of the sinking ship before you die. Swim into the small vent to the left of the Statue of Time, and kill the Blades in this area. After killing the 2 Blades, a new way will open, but instead, enter the stairway below where you entered this area from, and you'll find an area with 3 Blades and a Blue orb Fragment. Kill the Blades and take the Blue orb Fragment, then go back a room, and enter the path that was opened earlier. Kill the 2 other Blades in this room, then shoot random boxes around here to find an Untouchable item inside one of them. Now exit the ship via the large white opening to end this mission. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mission 14: Deep Darkness & Towering Mountains ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Go to the surface and head for the coliseum.] Exit the water, and go to the water pool to your right and the right of the boat, where it's blue. Take the Blue Orb Fragment from the water here, then follow the path back up the stairs to exit the rock cavern (kill the Marionettes along the way), and enter the steel double doors to officially begin this mission. Once in the spike room, take the only path you have available to you, run past the iron gate, and follow the long path until you reach a skeleton holding something. Take the EMBLEM SHIELD from it, then raise the lever where the skeleton was holding the Shield, and the iron gate will rise, but the spikes will begin to shoot up from the ground. Run and avoid the spikes, and make your way to the iron gate that has opened. Ride the elevator up that's inside of the gate. Check the waterfall behind the elevator here for some HOLY WATER, and there's also some Red Orbs on some outer ledges and on top of the elevator platform. There's also a Blue orb Fragment on the ledge in front of the elevator, but it's tough to reach. When you're ready, head into the next area. Kill the Death Scythe that attacks once you start out here, then climb down the ledges and enter the small cave that's below your starting point. Follow the path and cross the bridge to find a Red Orb statue to use, as well as a Blue Orb Fragment on the lower right ledge. Take it, then return back to the area outside of the cave. Continue along the path, and enter the next small cave opening, follow this path to a Red Orb door, and use 200 Red Orbs to open it. In the next area, kill the Marionettes out here, then take the Devil Star off the left ledge, and head over to the right-hand ledge to find some hidden Red Orbs. Now enter the door, go down into the next room, take the Red Orbs, and enter the double steel doors to end the mission. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mission 15: Wheel of Destiny ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Use a shield and a pair of lances to conquer the coliseum.] You end up back in the first large courtyard from earlier, and you'll be forced to fight some Blades. Take care of them all, then follow the new blue lighted path to a small hallway and some shield doors you can't enter, but there are 2 doors on each side of these doors, down each end of the hallway. One is red, the other is blue. Run past the stairs and take the LUMINITE from the ground, then go down the stairs. At the bottom of the stairs, bust open the breakable door, and blow up all of the crates and barrels to find some Red Orbs, a Blue orb Fragment, and a Holy Water. Go back through the door that's directly across from the breakable door you broke through, and avoid the moving spikes on the moving floor, while killing the Sin Scythes that attack. Move to the very end of the path until you reach a large gap with a purple (poisonous) floor. Use the Air Raid technique to fly across the gap, take the PAIR OF LANCES, then Air Raid back across. Run back to the shield double doors back in the courtyard, and enter the Red Door next (kill the Sin Scythes outside before entering, though). Hop on top of the platform past the stairs (don't go down them yet), and get some Red Orbs that fall. Now go down the stairs, and bust through the breakable wall to get tons of Red Orbs and a Yellow Orb hidden inside of the barrels. Now enter the door across from the breakable door, and into another spike room. Do the same thing as you did in the previous spike room, only this time, activate the Symbol Walls to open up the next part of the path. At the end of the path you will find the NIGHTMARE-BETA item. Return back outside to the shield doors. Use the Pair of Lances on the shield doors to enter the Coliseum. Use one of the blue or purple elevators here to go up a level, then head up the stairs behind the elevators to find some Red Orbs on both sides. Stand in the center of the bridge on the highest level to get a Blue Orb Fragment from the sky. Run down to the center of the coliseum, and stand on the blue floor, and The Griffon will appear, once more. Fight him the same way as you did in the other two fights with him, and you'll be okay. After the fight, Mundus finishes the Griffon off for one last time, and Trish appears for a brief moment. Hop onto the rock that fell right before Trish left, and it'll lower you down to a room containing the WHEEL OF DESTINY. Take it, and the mission will end. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mission 16: Nightmare of Darkness ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Unravel the mystery of the "Staff of Hermes".] You'll begin this mission from the same exact point you ended Mission 15 from, so go back, take the Blue Orb Fragment, then hop back onto the elevator and return to the Coliseum. Exit the Coliseum, and go back into the courtyard, then go back the way you first came into this area, back up the stairs and towards the castle. Use the WHEEL OF DESTINY on the drawbridge to lower it, run across, and enter the castle once more. Enter the main hall, and notice that all of the castle has changed, and all areas have been denied for your access. Hit the Symbol Wall in the main room to bring about a Plasma, and kill it to unlock the door to the bi-plane room. Take the Blue Orb Fragment on the floor in the main room, and another one that's floating near the Symbol Wall, then enter the bi-plane room. Kill the Blades in here, then enter the red door to end up in the long hallway from the first part of the game. The center door is gone, and the door to the Library has been locked. Jump around the statue of the head near where you entered the area from to cause a Blue Orb Fragment to drop, then use the once-hidden door to the Cathedral near the Library door. Examine the puddle of water on the floor, and begin the toughest boss fight yet: Nightmare... ------------- - NIGHTMARE - ------------- Damn! Even on Easy Mode, this guy is one tough son of a bitch. He has 3 phases in which you will have to go through in order to fully defeat him: "You Can't Hurt Me" Stage: This is the first stage of Nightmare, and it's when he's in puddle-form. During this stage, you cannot hurt him; sure you can attack, but it won't do any good. During this stage, he'll also shoot small arrows at you and launch small worms that wrap themselves around Dante. Just double jump (if you have Air Hike) to get them off you if they do become attached. Go through this stage as long as you can, and you will go into the Underworld to enter the second stage... Underworld Stage: During this phase of the fight, you will be in the Underworld for a brief time, fighting off Skull enemies (just use your shotgun at point-blank range to take care of them fast). Once these guys are gone, you'll have to face Phantom once more, but he isn't that tough. Just use the same tactics as you have before, and he shouldn't be a problem. Once he's dead, its back to the Normal World... Nightmare: When you get back from the Underworld, you will find that Nightmare has lost some of it's health bar from it's trip back, but it's still in it's puddle-form, a form in which you cannot damage it from. How do you hurt him, you ask? Simple. Activate any one of the Symbol Walls around the arena to make him attack you and reveal his weak point: A glowing-blue sphere that sucks Dante's D.T. bar away. All you need to do is attack this sphere when it's revealed with your Grenade Gun for best results. But after enough damage, the sphere will go back down into Nightmare, and he'll attack. When he does this, he'll shoot out more tiny arrows, as well as big, fire arrows at you that explode, as well as a HUGE beam of ice that'll freeze you in your tracks as he attacks you. He'll also swipe at you with his arms if you get too close, so be weary of this attack, too. Also, remember to activate a Symbol Wall every so often to keep him in Nightmare phase at all times, so you can always do damage to him. Repeat the strategy of shooting at the blue sphere (you may need to circle around him to get a good shot, and get closer to do more damage) until he dies off. After the fight, exit the Cathedral to the broken bridge outside. Make your way to the other side of the bridge, and use the Staff of Hermes on the plaque on the wall, and two pictures will appear on the wall. Hop into the right-hand picture to find a room with a Blue Orb Piece and an Untouchable inside, then exit the room, hop into the left-hand picture, and this will end the mission. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mission 17: Parted Memento ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Slash away at the dragon and enter the court with the "Quicksilver".] Head forward, and run up the spiral stairs. Enter the first room you encounter, and blow everything up inside it to get a ton of Red Orbs, and kill the Marionettes in here, too. Continue up the spiral stairs until you reach the door at the top, and enter it. Fight the Plasmas out here (and there are a ton of 'em), then enter the double doors to enter a new part of the castle. Clear out the entire hallway of the baddies that appear, then ignore the first break-away part of the hallway (this leads to a door you need to get to later on), and follow the hallway to the very end, and enter the red door. As you enter, you'll notice that a large skeleton dragon is shooting fireballs at you from afar. To defeat him, simply wait for a fireball to get near you, then use your sword to hit the fireball back at him, therefore destroying it. Do this until the dragon is gone, and a mirror appears. Enter the room with the mirror, and examine the crank to the right of the mirror. Use the L3 button (clockwise or counterclockwise) to move the mirror |
