UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Version 1.1 (4/7/05): Cleaned and fixed up some spelling and grammer errors. Version 1.2 (4/10/05): Updated FAQ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Why Should I use Huang Zhong? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quite frankly, Huang Zhong ROCKS in this game, his bow attacks has been upgraded immensely. Although his arrow attacks don't go as far as it was in Dynasty Warriors 4, shooting more than one volley of arrows makes up for it. As for his stats, he pretty much average, although he may be at slow side, though. Plus he's an archer, a pretty good one by the way. Equipping Huang's bow (Hey it the item for him, it even has his name on it!) and fire arrows makes his bow attacks even stronger wiping out peons within seconds while burning them, how cool is that? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Brief Background on Huang Zhong. (Courtesy of kongming.net history archives) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Huang Zhong started his career late in his life when the Yellow Turban Rebellion had recently ended. He first served Liu Biao as Imperial Corps Commander and was in charge of defending Chang Sha. Later when Liu Biao was at war with Cao Cao, Hansheng took up the post as Deputy General under Han Xuan. At Nanjun, when Liu Bei was advancing south, he sent Guan Yu to intercept Huang Zhong. Guan Yu prevailed and captured Huang Zhong; who surrendered his forces and joined Liu Bei’s entourage. Hansheng accompanied Liu Bei when the latter was invading the Western River Lands of Ba Shu. For his great contributions, he was titled General Who Eliminated the Barbarians. In the twenty-fourth year of Rebuilt Tranquility (AD 219), Huang Zhong guarded the important mountain pass at Dingjun (??), and subsequently killed Wei’s Commander Xiahou Yuan (1). For his great defense, Hansheng was promoted to General Who Conquers the West. In that same year, Liu Bei proclaimed himself King of Hanzhong, and Huang Zhong was honored as one of the Tiger Generals. In the twenty-sixth year of Rebuilt Tranquility (AD 221), Liu Bei ascended the throne as Emperor of Shu, and conferred upon Huang Zhong the post of General of the Rear and title Lord of the Second Rank. Later that year when Liu Bei attacked Wu at Yi Ling, Huang Zhong was killed in battle and titled Forthright Lord posthumously (2). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Unlocking ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No need to unlock him in Dynasty Warriors 5, he's one of the players you can start to play with at the beginning of the game. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Move Set ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Huang Zhong's move set has dramatically been improve in Dynasty Warrior 5 from Dynasty 4. His bow charge attacks have been upgraded, yet another good reason to pick Huang Zhong S: A diagonal slash to the left SS: A horizontal slash to the right SSS: A stab forward SSSS: A diagonal slash to the right SSSSS: A horizontal slash to the left SSSSSS: A horizontal slash to the right Your weapon have to evolution capable in order to use the follow attacks: SSSSSSS: A horizontal slash to the right SSSSSSSS: A horizontal slash to the right SSSSSSSSS: A horizontal slash to the left T: Huang Zhong shoots 5 arrows in front of him. Press triangle more in order to shoot more arrows, up to 6 times ST: Huang Zhong uses his sword to do an uppercut with his sword to knock his enemies in the air, enough time to juggle them. SST: Like his first charge attack (shoots a series of 5 arrows in a row) but last volley of arrows stuns the enemy. Upgrade your weapon in order to shoot more volleys of arrows. SSST: Huang Zhong swings his sword in a diagonal position knocking anybody caught in the attack back. SSSST: Huang Zhong slams his sword to the ground making the enemies fly into the air. SSSSST: Huang Zhong spins around 2 times striking all enemies around him making them fly away. Musou attack: Huang Zhong spins diagonal for a couple of times and then stumbles at the end for a second. True Musou: Like his normal Musou with a few more spins and at the end, then does a uppercut and shoots a explosive arrow on whoever is in the blast range of the arrow. Mounted Attack: Swings to left and right with his sword consecutively. Mounted Charge: Swings his sword from left and right. Mounted Musou: Swings his sword to left and right like mounted attack but at a faster rate. Dash Attack: Huang Zhong’s puts his sword in front of him and strikes his Enemies, this attack stuns whoever gets hit. Parry attack: Same as his SSST attack. Jump attack: A horizontal slash to the left Jump Charge: He jumps forward then flips upside down shooting 5 arrows to downward toward the ground. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. Weapons ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Weapons are back to it was in Dynasty Warriors 3, if you don't know yet, in order to get better weapons, you either have to defeat Officers or destroy boxes to get Treasure boxes in order to gain a new weapon. (By the way, weights for weapons #1-3 are random). In order to get your last and of coarse best weapon, you need to fulfill certain requirements in order to gain it. War Sword: Power: +4 Attacks: 4 (How many consecutive square hits you can use) Weight: Random (How fast you can wield your weapon depends on the weight) Attributes: Random Veteran Sword: Power: +8 Attacks: 5 Weight: Random Attributes: Random Sage Sword: Power: +12 Attack: 6 Weight: Random Attributes: Random Oracle Sword: Power: +36 Attacks: 6 Weight: Light Fill: 18 Horse: 15 Bow: 20 Def: 15 Musou: 15 How to Get: Stage: Mt. Ding Jun (Must be done on Hard Mode) How to Get: Defeat Xiahou Yuan and Zhang He within 5 minutes before Cao Cao appears. NOTE: All of this has to be done before Cao Cao comes into the battle field Strategy: I suggest you equip a horse saddle in this stage in order to reach Xiahou Yuan at the fastest rate. Since you start in the middle, head north and you'll see a Supply Base, take that out if you want to, but if you do you'll be wasting precious time for beaten Xiahou Yuan and Zhang He. Head toward Xiahou Yuan's direction and defeat him and Zhang He. By the time you reach them they'll be probably 3-4 minutes left, depending if you captured the Supply base or not. Xiahou Yuan is super powered up so you might have a hard time beating him. After you damage a little of his health bar he'll heal back to max and have a defense x30 second on. Eventually once almost half his life is taken away, he'll go into some Musou rage, be careful when he is in this stage, whittle his life and finally defeat him, you'll be treated to a nice cut scene at the end of the battle. Having a Musou rage token immensly helps you defeat Xiahou Yuan quickly. After that, go find Zhang He (which south of where you defeated Xiahou Yuan) and defeat him. A valuable items (in fact 2) will appear once you defeated Xiahou Yuan, and the other, after Cao Cao arrives. Go check your battle log in order to find the places. NOTE: If you have not gotten Way of Musou, that item should be found in the upper left part of the map, near the Gate Captain. I suggest you go help Liu Bei taking out Checkpoints and bases on the way as well, as he is surrounded by enemies, take them out, and once Liu Bei is safe, proceed into taking over the remaining bases and Checkpoints and finally head for Cao Cao's base and defeat him and what ever is left of his army. Congratulations you defeated Mt. Ding Jun and got the Oracle Sword! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Musou Mode ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As most other characters in the game, Huang Zhong has 5 stages. A. Battle of Cheng Du B. Battle of Mt. Ding Jun C. Conquest of Nan Zhong D. Battle of Chen Cang E. Battle of Bai Di Castle Strategies coming soon... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8. Character Models ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1st Costume: Default Costume (Original costume) 2nd Costume: Like his 1st costume but his armor is now yellow, his pants are now white. (get when you have 10000 points) 3rd Costume: Original Dynasty Warrior 4 costume (Get when you have 20000 points) 4th Costume: Like Dynasty Warriors costume but has a green tassel on top of helmet and what seems to be golden butterfly wings at the end of each side of the helmet. Clothes are now greener and his belt is red instead of green. (Get when you have 20000 points) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9. Credits ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GameFaqs for making this great site Kongming.net archives for providing so much historical information RockmanCXDEZ for giving me privilege to using a similar format for making my FAQ And of coarse KOEI, for making this fabulous game ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10. Frequently ask questions ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Whats the best place to max out Huang Zhong in order to get his 4th weapon easier? I recommend doing any 5 star stage, as the officers give out the best stat increasers. What are the best items for Huang Zhong? What I gave him was: 1. Tiger Amulet: More power means faster rate of killing people 2. Peacock Urn: More life means the longer you can stay alive 3. Tortoise Amulet: This along with Peacock Urn means more defense against enemy hits. 4. Huang's Bow: Added to Huang Zhong's already powerful bow attacks, it makes his triangles attacks even more powerful. 5. Fire Arrows: What is there to say, adds fire element to arrows, and since you can shoot up to 6 arrows with your triangle attack, why not put burn them while your at it? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11.
