The Prolegomenon | #SC3TP o=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=o ==- : --== : ==-- : --== : ==-- : --== : ==-- : --== : ==-- : --== : ==-- : -== Yet again, I'm back with another FAQ. And, in typical fashion, I'm choosing a game I know inside and out, and have spent inane amounts of time researching in every facet. However, of those facets, I'm choosing one in particular to make a comprehensive FAQ out of: enemies. This isn't what I'd call a regular enemy database, though. It will contain every bit of detail on every enemy you encounter.. or don't encounter. A lot of the data contained herein is not covered anywhere else in the world, and I take great pride in that. I was originally co-authoring this FAQ with GameFAQs user Zeruel, but he seems to have given up this project despite my asking. As such, I've removed his name from the FAQ. Should he decide to contribute further work to it as I do, his name will go back up. Notwithstanding, onto the FAQ. Enjoy. ==- : --== : ==-- : --== : ==-- : --== : ==-- : --== : ==-- : --== : ==-- : -== o=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~o | 4. This was found through hacking, although that enemy may not actually be able to oversoul in the actual game when in battle. - Note on "Die" -------------------------------------------- Die is an ability that many enemies and bosses have stored in their data. I've never seen it used, nor do I know if the enemies actually lose the abilities. Currently, I do not *know* what this command is, but my theory is that every monster that has a special dying sequence has the command Die. For example, Omega Weapon has Die and has a longer, special death sequence and Vespa doesn't have Die and just disappears as Pyreflies, hence my theory. - Note on "" Brackets ------------------------------------ Values/descriptions in brackets are used to denote changes made in said values/descriptions from the original versions of the game to the International version. - Note on "Chain Attack" ----------------------------------- Now, you'll never see 'Chain Attack' actually listed as an attack for any enemy in the encyclopaedia, but many enemies (particularly Lupines and Insects) have an attack in their data called Chain Attack. It's never actually used, and they don't use it themselves, per se. What this is is when Lupines or Insects come in groups of more than one, they start attacking you consecutively... almost instantaneously after the last one attacks, a lot of times resulting in 'Chain x?' if more than one hits the same character in the allowable amount of time for a successful chain. All the enemies in that game that can use this are listed below: Baralai | Killer Hound Baralai | King VERMIN! Bomb | Lupus Canis Major | Shiva Coyote | Tentacles Creeper | Tindalos Dinictus | White Fang Detonator | Wild Wolf Hexapod | Xiphactinus Hug Bug | - Note on battle objects, dummies, data-only enemies ------- As you'll see, there are a large amount of enemies in this encyclopaedia that you do not actually seen in the game. They are either only found stored in the game's unused files, invisible in battle (typically used for activation purposes), or battle objects (such as character's weapons or Yuna Imposter's microphone). They had information listed for them and that data has been hacked and formatted into this guide, as well. =============================================================================== --- [Data Interpretation/Damage Mechanics Flowchart] -------------------------- =============================================================================== Here's the flowchart of how to determine damage. 1. Base Numbers These base numbers are usually determined by stats and level, and vary on the attack. Physical: (Level + Strength) X Level X Strength / 1024 + Strength Magic or Magic Recovery: Level X 2 + Magic Special Magic: (Level + Magic) X Level X Magic / 1024 + Magic The rest should be easy enough. Fractional: opponent's max HP (MP) or remaining HP (MP) X fraction Multiple: depends on the attack. the following are some examples: -Charon: user's max HP X 2 -On The Level: user's level X 16 -1000 Needles: 1000 (also Constant) -Mirror of Equity: (user's max HP - remaining HP) / 2 Constant: some attacks are simply based on single numbers (for example, Boris' "Sticky End" can damage between 46-52 HP, but its constant is 50, because the 46-52 part is the result of the randomization for every equation) 2. Damage Constants (part 1) This step only pertains to magic and magic recovery type attacks. Magic: (all previous steps) X damage constant^2 / 64 Magic Recovery: (all previous steps) X damage constant^2 / 128 3. Defense or Magic Defense This step only pertains to physical, magic, or special magic type attacks. Physical (except for Tableturner): (all previous steps) X (270 - opponent's Defense) / 255 Physical (Tableturner only): (all previous steps) X (15 + opponent's Defense) / 255 Magic or Special Magic: (all previous steps) X (270 - opponent's Magic Defense) / 255 4. Strength Up (Down) or Magic Up (Down) This step only pertains to physical, magic, special magic, or magic recovery type attacks. Physical: (all previous steps) X (12 + user's Strength Up or Down Level) / 12 Magic, Special Magic, or Magic Recovery: (all previous steps) X (12 + user's Magic Up or Down Level) / 12 5. Defense Up (Down) or Magic Defense Up (Down) This step only pertains to physical, magic, or special magic type attacks. Physical (except for Tableturner): (all previous steps) X (12 - opponent's Defense Up or Down Level) / 12 Physical (Tableturner only): (all previous steps) X (12 + opponent's Defense Up or Down Level) / 12 Magic or Special Magic: (all previous steps) X (12 - opponent's Magic Defense Up or Down Level) / 12 6. Damage Constants (part 2) This step only pertains to physical or special magic type attacks. Physical or Special Magic: (all previous steps) X damage constant / 16 7. Randomization This step pertains to physical, magic, special magic, magic recovery, or constant type attacks. All of the above: (all previous steps) X (240~271) / 256 *Note that in the pause menu, White Magic commands don't have a randomizer 8. Addition to damage Finale: (all previous steps) + 99999 [do not escape from battle with a character using Finale] Momentum: (all previous steps) + number of enemies defeated which you gained experience from [support units of special dresspheres do not count] 9. Critical Hit [when critical hit occurs]: (all previous steps) X 2 10. Berserk [when user is berserked]: (all previous steps) X 1.25 11. Attacks from behind [attacked from behind with a move that can be reduced by Protect]: (all previous steps) X 2 12. Other multipliers [fiend hunter abilities against an enemy of the correct species]: (all previous steps) X 4 [HP or MP recovery items with Alchemist or Double All auto-ability]: (all previous steps) X 2 [damage-dealing items (elemental) with Elementalist or Double All auto-ability]: (all previous steps) X 2 [damage-dealing items (non-elemental) with Physicist or Double All auto-ability]: (all previous steps) X 2 [black or white magic (damaging or healing) with Magic Booster auto-ability]: (all previous steps) X 1.5 13. Chain [during a chain]: (all previous steps) X (1.4 + chain number X 0.5) 14. Element [weakness to an element]: (all previous steps) X 2 [can stack for multiple weaknesses] [half an element]: (all previous steps) X 1/2 [does not stack, only halved once] [null an element]: (all previous steps) X 0 [absorb and element]: (converts all damage to HP) 15. Multiple targets [black or white magic on all opponents or allies]: (all previous steps) X 1/2 16. Shell or Protect [attack that can be reduced by Shell, used on Shell]: (all results) X 1/2 [attack that can be reduced by Protect, used on Protect]: (all results) X 1/2 17. Defend status [attack that can be reduced by Protect, used on Defending character]: all damage 2 or higher becomes 1 18. 9999 damage status [user has 9999 damage status]: all damage between 1-9998 becomes 9999 19. Damage limit There are certain exceptions where abilities will not go past the 9999 cap even with Break Damage limit. They are: -all items -abilities named the same as items (except for Soul Spring) -mix abilities (except for Soul Spring, Soul Sea, Ultra Potion, Mega Vitality, and Mega Cocktail) 20. Damage immunity [attack that can be reduced by Protect, used on Null Physical], [attack that can be reduced by Shell, used on Null Magic], [any attack used on Invincible], [fractional type attack, used on an enemy immune to fractional type attacks]: any damage 1 or greater becomes "immune" =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ------------------- 4b.
