How do you use fusion attacks????????????

Im trying really hard to raise up my levels on my characters... Im going to this hard-to-beat desert place... (something like yesir or something like that...) and Im only on level 13 or 14... is there a way i can get my levels up without dying by battling those big mean monsters..?
