Sapp's move to puroresu/MMA was similar to The Rock's and Goldberg's story. Sapp used to be a professional football player a couple of years back. With lack of use and an injury, Sapp was gone and needed work. He went on to become a helper in a funeral home. He decided to become a pro-wrestler and joined WCW. The company would be sold to WCW. Jobless again, Sapp went on to a Toughman contest, beating William "The Refridgerator" Perry. The Japanese K-1 officials saw the eccentric fighter and contacted him to fight for them. The Japanese had no idea of what they were going to expect. In his first fight, Sapp rushed at his oppononet with wild punches and stomps, causing him to get disqualified. Sapp never trained in any martial art at that time, which helped him even more by catching his opponents off guard with his style. Sapp would then go on to PRIDE, crushing veteran Kyoshi Tamura in less than a minute. Sapp then shocked the K-1 world by defeating "Mr. Perfect" Ernesto Hoost twice. Sapp would shock audiences again as he would take on PRIDE's greatest submission fighter Antonio Rodrigo Nogueria. Sapp pulled off an impressive fight, punishing his opponent with devastating strikes, impressive guard, and a botched piledriver. However, Sapp would gas out, causing him to lose, yet he still earned the respect of the Japanese. With every great moment, there must be a dark one. Sapp stopped using "Beast" style of fighting and began to train his kicks and punches. He would work a few shows for New Japan, winning the IWGP Heavyweight Belt, causing fans to go away. In K-1's ROMANEX, Sapp was easily defeated by Kazuyuki Fujita in 2 minutes. Later, Sapp was defeated by Ray Sefo via KO in the second round. Some say Sapp is through, and the "Beast" was just a marketing ploy. The question now is: CAN THE BEAST MAKE A COMEBACK??? ======================================== ==SECTION 2: SKILL AND PARAMETER STATS== ======================================== SKILL ----- Real Name..........................Bob Sapp FPZ Name...........................Sam Popp Promotion...............................K-1 FPZ Promotion......................Gruesome Size..................................Large Class.................................Heavy Height...............................200 cm Weight...............................170 kg Country.............................America Birthdate........................09.22.1974 Stance............................Mix Style Offensive Skill.......................Power Return Skill..........................Power Critical type.........................Power Special Skill..................Wild Warrior Recovery...............................Fast Recovery (when bleeding).............Medium Respiratory..........................Medium Respiratory (when bleeding)...........Below Awareness............................Strong Awareness (when bleeding)............Medium Neck Strength..........................High Arm Strength...........................High Waist Strength.........................High Foot Strength..........................High Movement Speed..................Medium Fast Ascend Speed.........................Medium Ascend Skill............................Yes PARAMETER - OFFENSE PARAMETER - DEFENSE ------------------- ------------------- Punch............10 Punch............10 Kick..............7 Kick.............10 suplex............4 Suplex............3 Submission........2 Submission........4 Stretch..........10 Stretch...........7 Power............10 Flying...........10 Instant-P.........8 Crush.............4 Arm Power........10 vs Lariat........10 Technical.........2 Technical.........2 Rough.............8 Rough.............9 Ground...........10 Ground............9 ======================= ==SECTION 3: MOVELIST== ======================= Note: I don't own the official guidebook, so I used Fat Dave's Patch and Cactusjack1999's movelist. ======================= ==SECTION 4: STRATEGY== ======================= Since Sapp is a Mix Style fighter, I'll include his MMA style soon. GENERAL STRATEGY Although he is an MMA fighter, Sapp can be used as a wrestler as well. His brute strength can easily win matches as he has a perfect 10 in five parameter fields. This high advantage can also lead to cheap and easy matches against most opponents. Add this to his quick recovery and you'll understand why Sapp is "The Beast" His weaknesses are mostly Submission and Technical moves. Keep a distance against those types of fighters. And most impotantly, remember to breath. STRIKES With a punch rating of 10, Sapp's punches should be always used throughout a fight. (Just look at what he did to Akebono) Try to use the Vader Hammers often and the Gridiron Tackles will come in handy when taking down an opponent. GRAPPLES Sapp relies on his power, and his grapple list shows that with some nasty moves. If you want to be cheesy, try and take down your opponent, mount them, and use the Lift-Up Press. Repeat as often as possible and you should have a victory in no time. After that, just use the final powerbomb and you're through. COMBOS These combos are really cheesy and should be used if a quick victory is necessary. Any Slam -> Guard Position -> Lift-Up Press Any Slam -> Back Mount Position -> Powerbomb Whip ====================== ==SECTION 5: CLOSING== ====================== In closing, I'd like to give thanks to: * CJayC and GameFAQS crew and board. * Jason Blackhart for the Stats and Parameters. * Bill Wood for creating the official format for the FPW FAQs. * Fat Dave for the Move List patch. * NY Times for their article on Sapp that was written in 2003. * HBO's "Real Time with Bryan Gumble" for that report on Sapp. * K-1 and PRIDE for their great fights and extensive info. Version 1.2 will include a more extensive strategy and more info. ========================= This may be not be reproduced under any circumstances except for personal, private use.
