This is basically a complete walkthrough of the game with respect to the chests. As such, it will describe every area of the game as the game progresses which is technically a spoiler for those of you that haven't finished the game yet. I'll try to keep it to a minimum, so whether this is your first time through or a repeat attempt, use this guide to grab every chest the game has to offer. /- 0####|=================> The View \- In this guide, I'll refer to chest locations in one of the three following ways: -- Plain View : These are chest that are in your face and can't be missed. -- Obstructed View : These are chests that are in places such that the camera angle doesn't divulge their location unless you step into the right spot. Since the camera angle is fixed, it is possible to continue forward in the game so that the camera angle never turns to show you the chest you just walked past. -- Hidden : These are chest that are hidden. You have to do something special to find these such as break a wall, open a door, do a special jump, etc. /- 0####|=================> The Types \- There are 5 types of chests in the game. Each chest is opened by standing in front of it and Holding down the R2 shoulder button. -- Green : These offer Health Orbs needed to replenish your Health Bar. -- Blue : These offer Magic Orbs needed to replenish your Magic Bar. -- Red : These offer Red Orbs (Experience) needed for upgrading your weapons and magic. -- Combo : These Combo Chests continually change between Green & Blue. Depending on what you want/need from the chest, wait for the desired color to be displayed and then grab the chest with R2. This locks the chest to that color until you either open it or let go. -- Unlit : These chests contain either Gorgon Eyes, Phoenix Feathers, Muse Keys, or Red Orbs. In several locations, there are multiple chests, so the listing for such a case will be in the form of the following: "Plain View : (3) Combo & Magic & Red Orbs" This means that in that particular location there are three chests available out in the open in plain sight. One of the chests will be a Combo (Health/Magic) Chest, one will be a Magic (Blue Orbs) Chest, and the final will be a Chest containing Red Orbs. Note: If you max out everything you have (Blades of Chaos, Blade of Artemis, all Magic Spells), then the game stops giving you Red Orb chests and replaces them all with Blue chests. /- 0####|=================> Eyes, Feathers, and Muse Keys \- -- Gorgon Eyes There is a total of 18 Gorgon Eyes to be found. Every time you collect 6 of them, you get an upgrade to your Health Bar. With a total of 18 available, you can get a total of 3 Health upgrades via the Gorgon Eyes. There are MORE than 18 chances to get the Gorgon Eyes. If you miss one, a later chest will hold a Gorgon Eye. This guide lists the earliest possible locations of all the Gorgon Eyes. By getting them early, the later chests will hold Red Orbs instead of a missed Gorgon Eye. This guide shows you how to get all 18 Gorgon Eyes during the Temple of the Oracle Chapter. -- Phoenix Feathers There is a total of 18 Phoenix Feathers to be found. Every time you collect 6 of them, you get an upgrade to your Magic Bar. With a total of 18 available, you can get a total of 3 Magic upgrades via the Phoenix Feathers. There are MORE than 18 chances to get the Phoenix Feathers. If you miss one, a later chest will hold a Phoenix Feather. This guide lists the earliest possible locations of all the Phoenix Feathers. By getting them early, the later chests will hold Red Orbs instead of a missed Phoenix Feather. This guide shows you how to get all 18 Phoenix Feathers during the Challenge of Poseidon. -- Muse Keys There are only two Muse Keys to be found in the game. However, there are FOUR chances to find them. If you find them both early, then the later chests will hold red orbs instead of a missed Muse Key. Once you have both keys, use them to open the special room in the Rings of Pandora. The four possible locations for the Muse Keys are: Challenge of Atlas - Chest #16 (see Challenge of Atlas Section below) Challenge of Poseidon - Chest #6 (see Challenge of Poseidon Section below) Challenge of Poseidon - Chest #15 (see Challenge of Poseidon Section below) Challenge of Hades - Chest #21 (see Challenge of Hades Section below) >>Thanks to Mike Schilling (mike_161@yahoo.com) for verifying the Muse Key >>location in the Challenge of Hades !!!---- WARNING ----!!! IMPORTANT: The Muse Keys MUST be used BEFORE you ascend the tower and reach the Cliffs of Madness. Once you leave Pandora's Temple and reach the Cliffs of Madness, you can NEVER go back to the Temple of Pandora. That is why you hear a voice warning you about this as you attempt to ascend the tower to the Cliffs of Madness. If you follow this guide, you will have both Muse Keys by the time you finish the Challenge of Poseidon and as such, this guide instructs you to go to the Muse Key door after you have finished the Challenge of Poseidon. /- 0####|=================> Chest Totals \- In the game, the total number of chests that can be found are as follows: Health ---------- 46 Magic ----------- 26 Combo ----------- 70 Red Orbs -------- 151 Gorgon Eye ------ 18 Phoenix Feather - 17 ~~ There ARE 18 Feathers, but 1 can come from the Nyads! Muse Key -------- 2 Total Chests ---- 330 Interesting Tip: As you progress through the game, there are MANY things that you can break and smash such as barrels, statues, vases, cracked walls, etc. Breaking these things typically gives you a few red orbs. As you're going through the game and you're wondering whether or not an item is breakable, simply try to grab it (hit the O Button). If you see the "blocked grab" animation (Kratos gets knocked backward) then the item IS BREAKABLE. Otherwise, Kratos simply grabs air with no animation which means you can't break that item. There are a few exceptions to this such as the occasional door, the final statues at the end of the game, under-water breakables, and perhaps a few others. But as a general rule, this stands true. /- 0####|=================> The Nyads \- During the Challenge of Poseidon, you will encounter the Nyads which are Poseidon's daughters. When you meet one, you interact with her by hitting the O Button (the grab button) to kiss her. There are FOUR Nyads to be found. The Nyads are there to give you Gorgon Eyes and Phoenix Feathers IF, and only IF, you do not have all 18 of either item by the time you meet them. As said earlier in this guide, there are a total of 18 Gorgon Eyes and 18 Phoenix Feathers to be found in the game. However, there are more than 18 chances to find them. If you miss a chest early in the game that holds either a Gorgon Eye or a Phoenix Feather, a later chest will contain that missed item. However, if you did find the Gorgon Eyes and Phoenix Feathers early in the game, then the later chests will give you red orbs. The same is true for the Nyads. If you encounter the Nyads and do not have all 18 Gorgon Eyes or all 18 Phoenix Feathers, then the Nyads, depending on which one you kiss, will give you one of these missing items. Each Nyad has a set and specific gift that she will give you (assuming you haven't already found all of the items that she is assigned to) if you kiss her, and the gifts are as follows: Nyad #1 - Gorgon Eye Nyad #2 - Phoenix Feather Nyad #3 - Gorgon Eye Nyad #4 - Phoenix Feather Their locations are as follows: Nyad #1 - Plain view when you start the Challenge of Poseidon. Nyad #2 - Behind the cracked carving of the Nyads. Nyad #3 - Behind a cracked wall to the left of the save point. Nyad #4 - Same area as Nyad #3 but can be found behind a cracked wall to the right of the Statue of Poseidon. See the section for The Challenge of Poseidon below for more detail on the Nyad locations. If you reach the Nyads and have all of the Gorgon Eyes, then Nyads #1 & #3 will not give you anything. If you reach the Nyads and have all of the Phoenix Feathers, then Nyads #2 and #4 will not give you anything. Currently, this Guide shows you how to get all of the Gorgon Eyes and 17 of the 18 Phoenix Feathers BEFORE you reach the Nyads. This means that ONLY Nyad #2 will give you anything which is a Phoenix Feather. That is, if you follow this guide, you will already have all 18 of the Gorgon Eyes, so Nyads #1 & #3 which are assigned to give you Gorgon Eyes will have nothing to give you. Also, if you follow this guide, you will have 17 of the 18 feathers so when you meet Nyad #2 which is assigned to give you a feather, she WILL grant you the 18th feather when you kiss her. Once you get that 18th feather, you will have them all meaning that Nyad #4 will have nothing to give you since she was assigned to give you a feather. Now, for the sake of clarification, you do NOT have to interact with the Nyads. You can simply pass them by. If you do so, you WILL eventually find the 18th Phoenix Feather in a later chest. However, this guide is intended to show you how to get the Eye and Feather upgrades as quickly as possible, so in following this guide, you should get 17 Feathers from chests and then get an 18th Feather from Nyad #2. In doing this, not only will you get you upgrades more quickly, but in taking a feather from the Nyads, you will allow a later chest in the game to give you red orbs instead of wasting it by making it hold the Feather Nyad #2 will give you. The same thing applies to the Gorgon Eyes and the Nyads as well. .-------------------------------------------------------------------------. / .-. .-. \ | / \ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ / \ | | |\_. | FINDING THE CHESTS | /| | |\| | /| ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |\ | |/| | `---' | | `---' | | |-------------------------------------------------------------| | \ | | / \ / \ / `---' `---' \------------------------------------------------/ O| [ Aegean Sea ] |O /------------------------------------------------\ ( Area Totals = 14 Chests ) ( ) ( Health ---------- 5 ) ( Magic ----------- 1 ) ( Combo ----------- 0 ) ( Red Orbs -------- 6 ) ( Gorgon Eye ------ 2 = (2/18) ) ( Phoenix Feather - 0 ) (~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~) 1. Plain View : Health On the first ship after your first fight, drop down the hatch hole and this is found just before the battle with the first Mini-Hydra Battle. 2. Plain View : Red Orbs Found in the middle of your path as you progress after defeating the first Mini-Hydra 3. Hidden : (2) Red Orbs & Red Orbs After the fight with the Second Mini-Hydra, but BEFORE you jump down the hole that the Hydra created, there are two doors at the far end of the ship past the hole the Hydra made. Use R2 to open them and get the chests. 4. Obstructed : Red Orbs After the second Mini-Hydra fight, you must balance across beams to the next ship. As you progress along the beam, there will be a beam that forks to the right. Follow it to get the chest. 5. Plain View : Health On the second ship, after the above, it's next to the Save Point. 6. Plain View : Health After the above, it's in a niche on the second floor at the far end of the ship where the archers are/were (the crate kicking area). 7. Obstructed : Red Orbs After the above, once you climb all the way to the top of the main mast, you will be on a small platform with a rope that you can grab and slide down on which will take you to the next ship. BEFORE you grab the rope, walk to the left of the platform and balance walk out across the beam to reach the chest. 8. Hidden : (2) Red Orbs & Gorgon Eye (1/18) After the above, you slide down the rope to the next ship. There are three cracked walls here. The one in the center is your path forward. The ones on the right and left have the chests. 9. Plain View : (2) Health & Magic Right after acquiring Poseidon's Rage. They are next to the climbable net that leads to the Hydra Boss fight. 10. Plain View : (2) Health & Gorgon Eye (2/18) After the Hydra Boss fight, they are on the platform that you jump to in order grab the rope and leave the ship. \------------------------------------------------/ O| [ The Gates of Athens ] |O /------------------------------------------------\ ( Area Totals = 27 Chests ) ( ) ( Health ---------- 9 ) ( Magic ----------- 3 ) ( Combo ----------- 2 ) ( Red Orbs -------- 9 ) ( Gorgon Eye ------ 2 = (4/18) ) ( Phoenix Feather - 2 = (2/18) ) (~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~) 1. Plain View : (2) Health & Magic Before you leave the ship after "interacting" with the women, these chests are located at the foot of the ladder which is your exit. 2. Hidden : (2) Health & Phoenix Feather (1/18) After exiting the ship, follow the path to the platform which you raise by by pulling the switch. Just to the right of that platform/switch is a hole in the wall. Jump through the hole and land in the water. Jump up on the landing just north of you and follow the hallway for these chests. 3. Plain View : Health After the above, ride the platform to the top and there is a green chest in your path just before meeting the Minotaurs. 4. Plain View : Magic After the above, you defeat the Minotaurs and this chest is in your path as you make your way to the next platform. 5. Obstructed : Health After the above, ride the platform up to the area where you fight the three Cyclops. As soon as you get off the platform, go hard right to find a ladder that leads to a lower area. The chest is down there. 6. Plain View : Combo Same area as above. In the yard where you fight the Cyclops, across the yard in front of your exit door is a chest. 7. Obstructed : Red Orbs Same area as above. In the yard where you fight the Cyclops, across the yard to the RIGHT of your exit door is a small alleyway that leads to the chest. 8. Obstructed View : (2) Magic & Gorgon Eye (3/18) After the above, get to the room with the tall square columns. This is the room just before you fight Medusa. Break the wooden boxes on two of the columns to lower them. BEFORE you go forward to the ladder, jump to the taller column to your right and the camera angle will change to show you the ledge with the two chests. 9. Plain View : Red Orbs After the above, continue and this chest is in your path on the ledge with the ladder. 10. Obstructed View : Red Orbs In the same room as above, after you've jumped to the column with the climbable netting, instead of jumping to the exit, jump slightly to your left to another column. The camera angle will change to reveal yet another column you can reach that holds this chest. 11. Plain View : Combo After the above, in the room where you fight Medusa, this chest is waiting. 12. Hidden : Red Orbs After defeating Medusa, follow the path to a tall ladder that leads to the bow and arrow machine. At the top of the ladder, but BEFORE you actually climb off the ladder and onto the landing, pull back and do a double jump away from the ladder. You will land on a ledge with this chest. 13. Obstructed View : Red Orbs From the above listed ledge, you'll see a niche/alcove in the wall to your left. Double jump from the ledge to the alcove to get the chest. 14. Hidden : (2) Red Orbs & Red Orbs After the above, approach the Bow and Arrow machine BEFORE you have turned it by pulling he switch. Fire the arrow from it's starting location and the arrow will break the wall of a building across the courtyard revealing two chests. You can't get them right now, but they will be obtainable later in your path. See Back-Track Section Below. 15. Hidden : Phoenix Feather (2/18) In the same above room, pull the switch TWICE to turn the bow and arrow machine so that it is facing left. Fire at the wall and the wall will break open to reveal this chest. 16. Plain View : Health Same room as above next to the save point. 17. Plain View : Gorgon Eye (4/18) After the above, use the bow and arrow to break the door and go forward. Go LEFT and take the ladder down. There is a chest here next to a gate. IMPORTANT : Open the gate now, and THEN backtrack to the ladder and go back up top (where the bow and arrow machine is). BACK-TRACK : Chests From Original Bow And Arrow Machine Puzzle (Item 14) After the above, take the ladder on the right hand side of the hallway and work your way up to the climbable wall. As soon as you start climbing the the wall, go LEFT to reach the small ledge. From this ledge, jump down to the building below you with the red/pink roof. Once on the roof, the camera angle will change to show you the exposed chests. Double jump over to them to obtain them. Once done, drop down and go through the gate that you opened in the above chest discovery. 18. Plain View : Health After the above, you come to a spot where you need to push over the statue. The chest is in your path after knocking over the statue. 19. Obstructed : Health After the above, climb up the ladder on the opposite building to fight the Gorgons. The chest is to the left in a small area on this level next to the wall. Just walk left once you get off the ladder to see it. 20. Plain View : Health After the above, cross the rope and drop down. The chest is here. 21. Obstructed : (2) Health & Red Orbs After the above, use the Bow and Arrow machine to break the second door. Also use the Bow and Arrow machine to kill the four Minotaurs. Once done, walk forward to a ladder that leads down. Get on the ladder and climb UP instead of down. At the top of the ladder, you'll find two chests. 22. Hidden : Red Orbs From the above location, BEFORE going back down the ladder to continue, stand at the edge facing the ladder. Double jump straight out and away from the ledge you are standing and you will land on yet another hidden ledge. This jump is made easier if you get back onto the ladder (make sure to stay at the top of the ladder) then pull back and do a double jump out and away from the ladder to hit the hidden ledge. NOTE: At this point in the game, you will view a cutscene with the Oracle. From there you will continue forward and see Ares in the distance waging war on the City of Athens. A cut-scene is also available if you walk forward to the edge. Now, from here there is a save to your right. You have a choice of sorts here in your progression. You can either go right or left at this point. The way you are supposed to go is to your left as that is the path in which the game progresses, however you can go to your right down the long pathway to find a dead end which is the sealed door leading to the Desert of Lost souls. If you go right at this point, you will find a chest that holds a Gorgon Eye. But, you will also be at a dead end and will have to backtrack all the way back in order to continue with the natural progression of the game. This guide is written so that you simply go left and do not go right due to the backtracking required to do so, and for the simple fact that the game will eventually lead you down that path later. No need to go that way at this point. However, if you wish, you can go right at this point to get that Gorgon Eye, but it will throw off the eye count used in this guide. Further, getting that eye at this point doesn’t grant you any benefit since the final eyes can be found in the Temple of the Oracle chapter. In that chapter of the game, there are four Gorgon Eyes, but if you go right at this point to get this Gorgon Eye, there will only be 3 Gorgon Eyes in the Temple of the Oracle chapter. The fourth chest that would have held the last eye will be replaced with red orbs if you go right at this point. However, the red orb chest that replaces the eye in the Temple of the Oracle is a “small” orb chest and only grants 45 red orbs. Conversely, if you follow this guide and get the Gorgon Eyes in the order listed, the chest to the right will become a “large” red orb chest which holds 90 red orbs. You will automatically bump into that chest after you finish the Sewers of Athens chapter. So, as I said, it’s up to you at this point. You can go right from here and get that chest early for a Gorgon Eye which means backtracking to continue your game and which also causes a chest in the Temple of the Oracle to turn into a 45 red orb chest, or you can follow this guide and allow the chest to the right to turn into a 90 red orb chest thus gaining 45 additional red orbs by following the guide and the natural progression of the game. The chest to the right will eventually be encountered as the game unfolds at the end of the Sewers of Athens section, and it is item 11 in that section of this guide. If you grab it now, you will change Item 15 in the Temple of the Oracle into a small red orb chest (only 45 red orbs). I bring this up due to the fact that I have received many emails concerning this particular chest. There has been some confusion amongst many gamers in that they believed I had missed this chest. On the contrary, I intentionally instruct the gamer to go left at this point in order to avoid back-tracking and to also gain an additional 45 red orbs by allowing the chest to the right to turn into a red orb chest. So, it’s up to you, but for the record, you will have to back-track and you will lose 45 red orbs if you go right at this point. Also, the spacing of the eyes in the Temple of the Oracle chapter are only a screen apart, so you don’t save much time at all by getting that eye early. In fact, you will lose time and have to backtrack across 6 screens in order to get the eye to the right when it can easily be gotten one screen further into the Temple of the Oracle. Now, I hope that clears up the confusion, and onto the rest of the guide. \------------------------------------------------/ O| [ The Road to Athens ] |O /------------------------------------------------\ ( Area Totals = 19 Chests ) ( ) ( Health ---------- 1 ) ( Magic ----------- 1 ) ( Combo ----------- 0 ) ( Red Orbs -------- 13 ) ( Gorgon Eye ------ 2 = (6/18) : 1st Upgrade ) ( Phoenix Feather - 2 = (4/18) ) (~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~) 1. Plain View : Magic In the Minotaur Puzzle Room where you stone the Minotaur on the switch you will find this chest. This chest is re-usable until you have defeated the puzzle (gotten out of the room). Once you leave this room, you CAN come back and get this chest as it will have re-spawned if you used it prior to solving this puzzle. See below for details on how to get this chest. 2. Plain View : Health Right outside the Minotaur Puzzle Room just outside the gate is where this chest is. BACK-TRACK : Chest from Minotaur Puzzle Room (Item 1) After above, there will be some rubble to your right, jump up onto it then jump over to the other side. You'll be in front of the gate that leads to the Minotaurs Puzzle Room. Open the gate to enter the Minotaurs Puzzle Room and claim the chest. 3. Next, you travel the road toward the Athens Town Square. There are Houses on either side of the road. All of them can be entered, and most of them contain Chests. To enter the 1st floor, hit the door with your Blades of Chaos to break the door open. To enter the 2nd floor, jump up next to the building to do a ledge hang and then pull yourself up. There are 13 Chests to be found in these houses. For the following, if a house lists "---" that means there's Nothing in that particular House. Contributed Material: -- Tip for the 9th house on the right -- A big thanks to David Floyd (DFloyd@mileskimball.com) for finding a chest I missed in these houses! For the 9th house on the right, there is a 2nd chest on the 2nd floor of this house. HOWEVER, it is a bit tricky to obtain. As you approach this house, you will notice a crate against the southern wall of the house. This crate IS breakable, but do NOT break it! Instead, jump up onto this crate and then double jump up to the ledge of the 2nd floor of this house. Pull yourself up and smash the door to find this chest. If you break the crate, it will NOT re-spawn and you will NOT be able to get this hidden chest, so you WILL want to keep all of your enemy battles far and away from this area to avoid inadvertently breaking the crate. The Minotaurs especially WILL break this crate as they are trying to hit you. So, back up and have them follow you and take them out around the corner far and away from this crate. If this crate is smashed, you'll have to restart or just forget about getting it. ++++ Houses On The Right Side ++++ House 1 : --- House 2 : Red Orbs on 2nd Floor House 3 : --- House 4 : Gorgon Eye (5/18) on 2nd Floor House 5 : Red Orbs on 2nd Floor House 6 : Red Orbs on 1st Floor House 7 : --- House 8 : --- House 9 : Red Orbs on 1st Floor, Red Orbs on 2nd Floor -- Thanks to David Floyd (DFloyd@mileskimball.com) for finding -- the chest on the 2nd floor of House 9! ++++ Houses On The Left Side ++++ House 1 : --- House 2 : Red Orbs on 1st Floor House 3 : Red Orbs on 2nd Floor House 4 : Phoenix Feather (3/18) on 1st Floor House 5 : --- House 6 : --- House 7 : --- House 8 : --- House 9 : Gorgon Eye (6/18) & Phoenix Feather (4/18) (Double Room w/2 doors) - This Gorgon Eye will give you your 1st Health Bar upgrade - House 10 : --- House 11 : --- House 12 : Red Orbs & Red Orbs (Double Room w/2 doors) House 13 : --- 4. Before entering the courtyard and triggering the fight, check the Left and Right side of the stairs for these chests. 5. Hidden : Red Orbs From the bottom of the stairs, take your 1st Left to find a breakable door that hides this chest. 6. Hidden : Red Orbs From the bottom of the stairs, take your 2nd Left to find this chest on a small balcony. 7. Hidden : Red Orbs From the bottom of the stairs, take your 2nd Right to find a breakable door that hides this chest. \------------------------------------------------/ O| [ Athens Town Square ] |O /------------------------------------------------\ ( Area Totals = 10 Chests ) ( ) ( Health ---------- 1 ) ( Magic ----------- 0 ) ( Combo ----------- 3 ) ( Red Orbs -------- 3 ) ( Gorgon Eye ------ 2 = (8/18) ) ( Phoenix Feather - 1 = (5/18) ) (~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~) *NOTE : After the Cyclops fight, you may/will notice there is a ledge above and to the left of door that you take in order to follow the woman with the key (the door that leads to the room with the polished floors and cracked wall carvings). On this ledge are three chests that you can NOT reach at this point. You can only reach these chests at the end of the Rooftops of Athens Chapter - see Item 22 in the Rooftops of Athens section. So, go forward for now, and you will be able to get these chests later. 1. Hidden : Red Orbs After fight with Cyclops, in the courtyard on left hand side is a small alley that leads to a breakable door that hides this chest. 2. Hidden : Red Orbs Just North of the above chest is another breakable door that hides this chest. 3. Hidden : Gorgon Eye (7/18) Continue from above to reach a room with polished floors and carvings on the wall. Straight ahead is a cracked carving. Break it open to get this chest. 4. Hidden : Combo To the right of the above on the far wall is another cracked wall carving. Break it open to get this chest. 5. Plain View : Health Continue from above to the top of the stairs and this chest will be in your path. 6. Hidden : Red Orbs To the right of the above is a breakable wooden door. Break the door and enter the room. On the left is a cracked wall carving. Break the carving to reveal this chest. 7. Plain View : Combo In the same room as above, on the far end wall, there is an opening which leads to a small balcony. This chest is on the balcony. 8. Hidden : Gorgon Eye (8/18) From the above, continue to the break in the path where you must jump across to the next balcony to continue chasing the woman that has the key to the trapdoor. However, INSTEAD of jumping straight across to the landing spot on the other side, pull LEFT as you jump (do a double jump for this) and Kratos will hit and grab the ledge. Ledge walk (hand-over-hand) to the left and around the ledge till your back is toward the opposite building. Double jump back and away from the ledge to reach the ledge of the opposite building. Break the door there to get this chest. 9. Obstructed : Combo After the above, drop down to the ground below to find this chest next to the gate at the far end of this area (opposite side of the ladder). 10. Obstructed : Phoenix Feather (5/18) After the above, continue onward, watch the woman commit suicide, and find the save spot to your right. Walk toward the save spot and then jump over the balcony to fall to a slightly lower balcony for this chest. \------------------------------------------------/ O| [ Rooftops of Athens ] |O /------------------------------------------------\ ( Area Totals = 35 Chests ) ( ) ( Health ---------- 4 ) ( Magic ----------- 4 ) ( Combo ----------- 6 ) ( Red Orbs -------- 11 ) ( Gorgon Eye ------ 6 = (14/18) : 2nd Upgrade ) ( Phoenix Feather - 4 = (9/18) : 1st Upgrade ) (~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~) 1. Plain View : (2) Health & Magic On the small balcony just outside the room where you first battle the wraiths is where you'll find these two chests. 2. Plain View : Health After the above, enter the room and this chest is easily seen next to the broken stairs and exit doorway. 3. Hidden : Gorgon Eye (9/18) In the same room as above (the wraith battle room), to the RIGHT of the above mentioned chest is a breakable wooden door. Smash it for this chest. 4. Plain View : Health After the above, continue up the stairs to find this chest on the roof that you have to battle the wraiths and Cyclops on. 5. Hidden : (2) Red Orbs & Phoenix Feather (6/18) - This Phoenix Feather will be your first Magic Bar Upgrade - After grabbing the above chest, do not leave the roof yet. Go hard right from the above chest to the break in the Northern wall. Walk forward to the edge of the roof as if you intend to jump off the edge (you can't). Once you've reached the edge, walk to your right to find a hidden alcove that holds these chests. -- A big thanks to CrystalBlaze@netscape.net for finding these chests and -- letting me know about them! 6. Obstructed : Red Orbs After the above, after exiting the Wraith battle room, take a left to get this chest. 7. Plain View : Health From above, continue to see this chest on your right just before you reach the broken bridge. 8. Obstructed : Red Orbs After the above, you have to cross the chasm that was once a bridge. You have to jump across the wreckage to continue your journey. On the first column that you jump to and do the wall climb on, work your way to the right hand side of the pillar so that the pillar is between you and the archers. Work your way all the way down on that side and you'll see a new path of vines leading back to the left. Go left, and work your way back up so that your back is toward the ledge of the building. Double jump to the ledge and get the chest. While you're there, open the door and kill all the enemies! 9. Plain View : Red Orbs After the above, continue forward and find this chest in your pathway as soon you have reached the far side of the broken bridge. 10. Plain View : Combo Continue forward and this chest is to the left of the door that leads to the room with the save point. 11. Hidden : Combo Continue from above to your left to reach the Crossbow Puzzle room. This chest is behind the 2nd door on the right. 12. Hidden : Red Orbs In same room as above, take the first door on left, climb up the ladder and find this chest in the small room at the top of the ladder. 13. Plain View : Magic Continue from above and find this chest to the left of where you obtain Zeus' Fury. - NOTE : This chest will re-spawn and can be re-used infinitely. So feel free to back track to this chest at anytime to replenish your magic. Using this chest constantly is a great way to rack up orbs by using Medusa's Gaze to stone and smash your enemies. You can come back to this chest anytime up until you finish the Temple of the Oracle chapter and enter the Athens Sewers. --Thanks to David Floyd (DFloyd@mileskimball.com) for pointing out that this --chest will replenish itself infinitely. 14. Hidden : (3) Magic & Gorgon Eye (10/18) & Phoenix Feather (7/18) After getting Zeus' Fury, go kill the archers and enter the newly opened room. Break open the cracked wall to find these chests. 15. Obstructed : (2) Combo & Gorgon Eye (11/18) Continue from above. Go to the save room, climb ladder. Once on roof, head to the right to find another ladder. Climb up to the ledge at the top of the ladder to find these chests. 16. Plain View : Combo From above, go to the 2nd rooftop and see this chest to the right of the path that leads to the 3rd rooftop. 17. Hidden : (5) Combo & Combo & Red Orbs & Red Orbs & Red Orbs From above (the 2nd roof top), before proceeding to the 3rd rooftop, go to the left to find a small ledge with a rope that you can swing on which leads to another rope and finally across to another building. Once you get to the new building, you'll find these chests and 4 or more archers in the distance pounding the crap out of you. Use Zeus' fury to take them out and then open all the chest. 18. Hidden : Gorgon Eye (12/18) - This Gorgon Eye will give you your 2nd Health Bar Upgrade - After the above bit of exploration, you go back to your rooftop progression. Once you reach the 3rd rooftop, the rooftop where you have to jump over to the vines and make your way to the coward at the gate, do not jump over to the vines yet. Go to the upper left hand corner (Kratos' left as he is facing the vines on the far wall) of this rooftop, and you'll notice the edge is cracked or missing (if it is only cracked, hit it to break it). Get next to the edge of the roof and jump out just a little bit and as you're in the air pull to the left and you will fall on a ledge with this chest. 19. Plain View : Magic From above, continue by jumping over to the vines and pull yourself up. This chest is to the left of the ramp that leads up to the coward at the gate. 20. Plain View : (2) Phoenix Feather (8/18) & Gorgon Eye (13/18) Continue by crossing the coward's bridge and in the next room these are on the left and right side of the doorway which leads to the next room. 21. Plain View : (2) Red Orbs & Red Orbs Continue from above to the elevator room and find these on the left and right side of the elevator's entrance. 22. Hidden : (3) Red Orbs & Gorgon Eye (14/18) & Phoenix Feather (9/18) At the end of this chapter (technically, it's the beginning of the next chapter which is called the Temple of the Oracle - but it makes more sense to put it here) you come to the broken bridge that crosses the Athens Courtyard (the spot you fought the Cyclops - you also see the cut-scene of the Oracle being kidnapped). Once you cross over the broken bridge you come to a save point (definitely save your game here). At the save point, to your right and slightly below you is a ledge with the chests. To get to it, face away from the Save point and jump out a little bit away from the ledge you are standing on and then IMMEDIATELY pull slightly left and back TOWARD the same ledge that you just jumped from and hit your double jump to jump back toward the ledge. When done correctly, Kratos will grab the ledge (the ledge with the Save point from which you just jumped) and do a ledge hang. Ledge walk (hand-over-hand) toward the building until you're across from the opening. Double jump away from the ledge to get the chests. *Note - These are the chests mentioned in the opening note of the Athens Town Square section. \-------------------------------------------------/ O| [ Temple of the Oracle ] |O /-------------------------------------------------\ ( Area Totals = 22 Chests ) ( ) ( Health ---------- 2 ) ( Magic ----------- 1 ) ( Combo ----------- 3 ) ( Red Orbs -------- 8 ) ( Gorgon Eye ------ 4 = (18/18): Final Upgrade ) ( Phoenix Feather - 4 = (13/18): 2nd Upgrade ) (~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~) 1. Hidden : Red Orbs After the save point, work your way up the stairs toward the temple. You'll fight several soldiers here, and halfway up is a cracked wall that conceals this chest. The fight usually breaks the wall for you, but if not, check the wall after the fight in order to find this chest. 2. Plain View : (2) Health & Magic Continue from above and these chests are on the left and right side of the bridge that leads to the Temple of the Oracle. 3. Plain View : (2) Phoenix Feather (10/18) & Gorgon Eye (15/18) Continue from above to the entrance of the Temple. On the left and right side of the door which leads into the temple is where these 2 chests are located. 4. Hidden : Red Orbs After getting the above chests, BEFORE entering the Temple, go all the way to the LEFT side and up a bit to find a ledge. Jump up for a ledge hang and then pull yourself up to get this chest. 5. Hidden : Red Orbs After getting the above chests, BEFORE entering the Temple, go all the way to the RIGHT side and up a bit to find a ledge. Jump up for a ledge hang |
