Seems I had the right information but put down something totally different. Simon Strange, of Pipeworks, for the clarification of the Sonic attack which was designed to be more of a concussive attack as caused by Aguirus' roar or the wind attacks of King Ghidorah, Rodan, Mothra, etc. +==============+ | 4. WELCOME |=============================================================== +==============+ Welcome to my FAQ for Godzilla: Save the Earth (or GSTE for short). Since this is an action/fighting game, there is no walkthrough per se. Instead, this FAQ is broken up into parts. First you will be given an explanation of choices you have for playing the game. Next, you will be given all the possible commands you can give with a brief description of what those commands are. The last part is dedicated to strategy. This strategy will give you an idea on how to fulfill the requirements for getting the various items or doing the various tasks required to complete each fight. Input is appreciated along with constructive criticism. If you wish to e-mail me thoughts on this FAQ, better ways of doing things, other strategies, etc., feel free. Make sure you put GSTE in the subject. If you don't, I'm liable to discard the e-mail as spam. +===============+ | 5. OVERVIEW |============================================================== +===============+ Since Godzilla "stomped" onto the big screen in 1954, the Japanese have not only managed to feature this monster in many movies, but they have also introduced other monsters such as Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah to name a few. What most people seem to recall from these earlier movies was the fact that the monsters appeared to be actors in rubber suits and the destruction they were causing was being done to little miniatures of houses and vehicles. In addition, the actor's lips never seemed to be in synch with the words. Regardless of these things, it was great, mindless entertainment that we could watch over and over again without getting bored. GSTE is based (loosely) on the movie Godzilla: Final Wars. In the game, though, it seems that there is a certain Queen Morticia, apparently the leader of the Vorteks, who wants something. Earth's scientists were able to extract Godzilla's DNA and harness its power. This power was stored in the form of G-Cells. Of course, Queen Morticia wants these G-Cells so she can create her own ultimate monster. She asks as "nicely" as she can. Of course, this niceness consists of gathering up and sending a whole load of monsters to earth to "convince" the governments that they want to cooperate with her. You, of course, get to play one of the monsters sent in to stop the monsters she is trying to use to collect G-Cells. It won't be easy but the rewards for a job well done means you get to send the Vorteks back home empty-handed and without their "ultimate" monster. *************** ******************************** U N I T II ********************************** *************** +======================+ | 6. GETTING STARTED |======================================================= +======================+ Once the game has loaded you will get the main GSTE menu. Your choices are: Action, Versus, Melee, Survival, Challenges, Multiplayer, Purchase Items, Gallery, Godzilla Final Wars, Options, and Profiles. For the Challenges that involve fighting, see Chapters 7.1 and 9.1 through 9.18 for specific control combinations for various monster attacks. _______________ / 6. 1 Action /_______________________________________________________________ --------------- This is where you get to battle an array of monsters to see who is really the "top dog". The number of fights and challenges is determined by the difficulty setting you choose. More detailed information regarding the ACTION mode is in Chapter 9. _______________ / 6. 2 Versus /_______________________________________________________________ --------------- This is a one-on-one fight with either another player or against the computer. If you choose to battle the computer, then you can also choose which monster you will fight against. This is a good mode for practicing moves and learning about the other monsters. Pressing the SQUARE button allows you to determine the following rules for the fight: Difficulty: Easy, Medium, or Hard. This determines how much life your opponent gets and also how well they fight against you if you are battling the CPU. Rounds: Best 1 out of 1, 2 out of 3, or 3 out of 5 rounds of fights to determine who is "top dog". Round Length: Anywhere from 1 to 10 minutes. Reset Arenas: This is a Yes or No question. If you answer No, then damage to the city is not repaired for the next round. ______________ / 6. 3 Melee /________________________________________________________________ -------------- Just as the name implies, you can have up to four monsters (other human players or computer controlled) to do with as you wish. Pressing the SQUARE button allows you to change the following rules: Difficulty: Easy, Medium, or Hard. This determines how much life your opponent gets and also how well they fight against you if you are battling the CPU. Wins: 1, 2, 3 wins for total victory. Round Length: Anywhere from 1 to 10 minutes. Reset Arenas: This is a Yes or No question. If you answer No, then damage to the city is not repaired for the next round. Scoring for the first two works out to: 500 points per knockout 100 points per knockdown 50 points per combination Scoring for the last two is determined by building value that your monster destroys. There are four different types of fights you can engage in while in MELEE mode. These fights are: +---------------------+ | 6.3.1 Free For All |-------------------------------------------------------- +---------------------+ You can have up to four monsters on the playing field at once. These monsters are controlled either by another player or the CPU. To prevent you from confusing which monster is which, your monster color is always blue while your opponents are green, yellow, and/or red in that order. Points are awarded based on damage to the other monsters. +--------------------+ | 6.3.2 Team Battle |--------------------------------------------------------- +--------------------+ This allows you to team up with either the CPU or other players. You must designate at least one monster for the opposite team. You can have any combination of monsters per team. Since there are only two teams, they are designated as either the blue or red teams. Points are awarded for how much damage you do to the other team's monster(s). +--------------------+ | 6.3.3 Destruction |--------------------------------------------------------- +--------------------+ The same as Free For All except you get points for destroying buildings, not damaging enemy monsters. +-------------------------+ | 6.3.4 Team Destruction |---------------------------------------------------- +-------------------------+ The same as Team Battle except you get points for destroying buildings, not damaging enemy monsters. _________________ / 6. 4 Survival /_____________________________________________________________ ----------------- As the name implies, your goal is to survive 15 fights against various monsters. More information regarding this mode in Chapter 10. ___________________ / 6. 5 Challenges /___________________________________________________________ ------------------- Challenges are only acquired by playing in ACTION mode. You start off with Battleships and Basketball. You unlock the other Challenges by attempting them in ACTION mode. It doesn't matter whether you succeed or fail, they will still be unlocked. See Chapter 9 in the detailed descriptions in ACTION mode for what Challenges you will do with what specific monster. All Challenges accessed via the main menu are in easy mode and are done with Godzilla 2000 (except the Asteroid Field Challenge, which is done with Moguera). Challenges done during ACTION mode have their difficulty determined by the overall difficulty you chose to do your fights in ACTION mode. Also, points acquired during Challenges in ACTION mode can be used to purchase items (see Chapter 11 for more details regarding points). The Challenges will be set up like this: Completion Goal: If applicable, this will be in points or a certain percentage. This will be set up with numbers needed for Easy/Medium/Hard difficulty setting. If it doesn't involve getting a certain number, then the task(s) that must be completed to beat the Challenge. Keep in mind that on the harder settings, your opponents improve significantly in keeping you from completing a challenge. Other Information: This includes things such as timers or scoring. A brief walkthrough on getting through the Challenge. +------------------------+ | 6.5. 1 Asteroid Field |----------------------------------------------------- +------------------------+ Completion Goal : Destroy the crystal-encased Spacegodzilla Other Information: You get 1000 health points at the start of this Challenge - The harder the difficulty, the longer this challenge is. This means that you will need to minimize damage done to Moguera to ensure you have enough energy to tangle with Spacegodzilla. - Use the X button for rapid firing at the asteroids, alien ships, drills, and crystals within the asteroid caves. You should have no problem blasting out a path without taking too much damage. - The screens alternate between flying through space and flying through the asteroid caves. Be ready for crystal lined walls and multiple drills emerging from the cave walls. - Collect all pick-ups to ensure that you are at maximum health and energy. - When you get to Spacegodzilla, use the CIRCLE button to lock on multiple points for your laser. This battle will take a while since Spacegodzilla is pretty quick and makes it hard for you to get a bead on him. - Once Spacegodzilla stops to fire on your monster, let loose with rapid fire after you "paint" him for your lasers. This will knock his health down really fast. - After completing this Challenge, your points are tallied like so: - Defeating Spacegodzilla: 1,000 points - Health Bonus: 1 - 1,000 points - UFO's destroyed x 100 points - Turrets destroyed x 50 points - Mines destroyed x 50 points +---------------------+ | 6.5. 2 Battleships |-------------------------------------------------------- +---------------------+ Completion Goal : 5,000/10,000/15,000 points in three minutes Other Information: Scoring for like colored ships, in sequence, is 100, 300, 700, and 1,500 points - You will have blue and gray ships to contend with. The objective is to maximize scoring while keeping damage, to yourself, as low as possible. - Try to concentrate on only destroying one color of ship. Points can add up quickly if you concentrate on one color. Anytime you hit the other color ship, the scoring sequence will start over at 100 points. - Use whatever means you can to destroy the ships. This includes both breath weapons and throwing objects at the ships. - Be mindful of the range of your breath weapon. Don't waste energy trying to hit ships that are too far out. +----------------------+ | 6.5. 3 Clone Attack |------------------------------------------------------- +----------------------+ Completion Goal : Destroy both versions of Jet Jaguar Other Information: The larger version is susceptible to weapon attacks while the smaller one is susceptible to physical attacks - You will have two opponents to deal with at the same time. The best way to deal with them is to take them on one at a time. - Lock onto one of the Jet Jaguars and start pounding on him. Don't be hesitant to deliver blows to the other one if they get too close. - Keep moving around while you deal with them so you don't get trapped between them. - Continue to move and strike to get through this Challenge. +--------------------+ | 6.5. 4 Demolition |--------------------------------------------------------- +--------------------+ Completion Goal : 15,000/20,000/25,000 points in three minutes Other Information: Collect glowing cylinders to add ten seconds to your time - You get to go on a rampage in this Challenge. Let the demonstration complete before you start to get free points without using any time. - Use a combination of breath weapon and physical attacks to level the buildings as quickly as possible. Some monsters, such as Anguirus and Rodan, can level city blocks with their breath weapon. - Destroying the buildings as quickly as possible also means you can find the glowing cylinders to add time. At the harder difficulty levels, you will need this additional time to ensure you get the designated score. - If you are using physical attacks, stand in the middle of intersections to deliver your attacks. This way, you can actually attack four city blocks at one time. - Keep moving around. The enemy helicopters, tanks, and jets will be "gunning" for your monster. +-------------------------+ | 6.5. 5 Monster Bowling |---------------------------------------------------- +-------------------------+ Completion Goal : Knock down all three monsters on the opposite side of the river Other Information: Monsters will stay knocked down for approximately 27 seconds - This one is a pretty easy one. You will have to knock down Anguirus, Gigan, and Megalon on the opposite shore. - There are a couple of ways to take them down. This depends on the range of your breath weapon. - If you have a long range breath weapon, lock onto the far left monster. Charge it up to full and let loose to knock him down. Repeat for the other two monsters to finish the Challenge. - If your breath weapon is short range, then work from left to right. Lock on the left monster and either pick up a rock or catch the rock he throws. Repeat for the other two monsters. - Remember that the monsters only stay down for a short period of time once you knock them out. Be quick in delivering the knockout blows to the other monsters. +-------------------------+ | 6.5. 6 Monster Roundup |---------------------------------------------------- +-------------------------+ Completion Goal : Capture all three monsters in the green-ringed energy fields in five minutes Other Information: Depending on difficulty, monsters will stay penned up for 120/105/90 seconds - This one can be tricky if you don't separate the monsters. You have to pen up Gigan, Mechagodzilla 2, and Megalon. The three pens are located at: - The stadium - On the hill overlooking the pyramid-shaped building - Out in the bay on the small island - The best way to pen up the monsters is to lead them to the energy fields. Once they are close, lift and throw them into the pen. Of course, you may have to pound on them to enable your monster to pick them up. - Remember that the monsters will only stay penned up for so long so you need to be quick getting them into the energy fields. Also, you can only put one monster in each energy field. - Repeat this process for the other monsters to end the Challenge. +--------------------+ | 6.5. 7 Mothership |--------------------------------------------------------- +--------------------+ Completion Goals : 1. Defeat Orga (Spaceship) 2. Defeat Orga (Turret) 3. Destroy G-Cell Generators 4. Defeat Orga and beam back to earth in two minutes Other Information: Orga cannot be hurt until you accomplish Goal #3 - You start off on the entry/exit platform into the mother ship. Orga appears as a white saucer-shaped object. Lock on the target and let loose with your breath weapon. - It should take two to three full blasts to bring Orga (Spaceship) down. Goal #1 - Next Orga will take on a new form. Unfortunately, this form is resistant to energy attacks so you have to use brute force. - Blast the forcefield down and get into the city. Start picking up buildings and throw them at this Orga manifestation. After hitting it with five to six buildings, Orga come after you. Goal #2 - This part will involve doing multiple tasks at once. Move to the upper area and look for a door. Right above it is a green cylinder. As you are moving, keep adjusting the targeting reticule until it turns red. - Once it turns red, lock onto the green cylinder. When the coast is fairly clear, let loose a full blast to blow up the green cylinder. Repeat this for the other three green cylinders. Goal #3 - After all the cylinders are destroyed, Orga is now "mortal". You only have two minutes to tear him a new one and get back to the platform you entered this Challenge at. Don't mess around, just let loose with everything you have. - After you destroy Orga, go to the platform to finish this Challenge. Goal #4 +----------------------+ | 6.5. 8 Osaka Crunch |------------------------------------------------------- +----------------------+ Completion Goal : 70%/80%/90% in three minutes Other Information: Collect glowing cylinders to add ten seconds to your time - You get to go on a rampage in this Challenge. +--------------------+ | 6.5. 9 Replicator |--------------------------------------------------------- +--------------------+ Completion Goals : 1. Destroy the Replicator 2. Defeat Mecha-King Ghidorah Other Information: Mecha-King Ghidorah is invulnerable until the Replicator is destroyed - To destroy the Replicator, you must destroy the four power conduits surrounding the Replicator pad. This won't be easy since you not only have to deal with Mecha-King Ghidorah, but also his two clones. - First, get close enough to lock onto one of these conduits. Once locked, let loose with full breath weapon. If you time it right, the clones will get in the line of fire and get destroyed. - While you are trying to get position, take out the clones. They can be destroyed, plus, it forces Mecha-King Ghidorah to constantly make clones and leave you alone. - Destroy all four of the power conduits to destroy the Replicator. Once the Replicator is destroyed, teach Mecha-Kind Ghidorah a lesson he won't soon forget. Goals #1 and #2 +--------------------+ | 6.5.10 UFO Attack |--------------------------------------------------------- +--------------------+ Completion Goal : Destroy the seven UFOs before they destroy the Pyramid Building Other Information: Destroyed UFOs drop power-ups - The best way to deal with the UFOs is to find one and "lock" on it. Charge up your breath weapon and let loose to destroy it. - Keep moving around since they won't exactly be taking your attacks lightly. Once you have a target in sight, let loose. - Don't fire at long distances or you may contribute to the destructions of the Pyramid Building. +-------------------------+ | 6.5.11 Undersea Attack |---------------------------------------------------- +-------------------------+ Completion Goal : Destroy the Vortaak's hammer sub Other Information: You get 1000 health points at the start of this Challenge - The harder the difficulty, the longer this challenge is. This means that you will need to minimize damage done to Godzilla to ensure you have enough energy to tangle with both Ebirah and the Hammer sub. - Use the X button for rapid firing at the mines and submarines. If sub- marines are grouped together, use the CIRCLE button to rapidly "paint" them and let loose to clear a path. - You will be navigating through narrow channels. These all seem to have their particular hazards such as mines, enemy submarines, volcanoes, and rockslides. Be sure to push the L3 button to accelerate quickly past these hazards. - About halfway through, you will encounter a crab-like creature. It is called Ebirah and he has a nasty "bite". - Use the CIRCLE button to lock on multiple targets and let loose. Also use the X button to rapid fire at him to drop his health down quickly. - Once you are past Ebirah, you will navigate more channels with the same hazards. Make sure you get the First Aid power-up at the end. This also means you are very close to the Hammer sub. - Use the same tactics you used on Ebirah on the Hammer sub. This battle will take a while but you should be able to rake the sub from bow to stern with concentrated firepower. - Continue to blast and move around to defeat the sub. - After completing this Challenge, your points are tallied like so: - Defeating Ebirah: 1,000 points - Defeating the Hammer sub: 1,000 points - Health Bonus: 1 - 1,000 points - Subs destroyed x 100 points - Mines destroyed x 50 points +------------------------------+ | 6.5.12 Vorillium Basketball |----------------------------------------------- +------------------------------+ Completion Goal : Outscore the other two monsters in three minutes Other Information: None - This one is also a pretty easy one. You will be competing against Gigan and Megalon to see who is the best shooter. - The best way to win this challenge is to find a spot where the energy balls continuously regenerate. Then all you have to do is pick up a ball and shoot (once you have gotten the mark on the first ball). - If an opponent seems to be ahead, there is nothing wrong with a quick breath weapon, punch, or throw to keep them off balance and miss their shot. - If you really start getting behind, you can climb the hill behind you and shoot three-pointers. ____________________ / 6. 6 Multiplayer /__________________________________________________________ -------------------- You will need an online connection to access this option. This allows you to combine forces with other players or to battle them. _______________________ / 6. 7 Purchase Items /_______________________________________________________ ----------------------- Points earned from ACTION mode can be used to purchase various things. GENERAL STRATEGIES |==================================================== +=========================+ These are general strategies to make your journey through the different areas more enjoyable (or tolerable at least). These also can be used when you don't want to look at the specific strategies and want to solve things on your own. Again, these are not all-encompassing and I know there are other general strategies to use. These are, though, the best I have found to work for me. _____________________________________ / 8.1 Law of conservation of Energy /_________________________________________ ------------------------------------- Energy is that wonderful thing that allows your monster to do different non- melee attacks. It is mostly used for breath weapons, but it can also be used for healing. Watch your energy bar closely. If you can do more damage with a melee attack, then do that instead and save your energy for when your opponent is helpless and can receive the "full" benefit of a breath weapon. This also goes along with monsters that use energy to heal. Don't heal every time you are hurt or you will find you will be needing energy when none exists. ____________________________________________ / 8.2 A Healthy Monster is a Happy Monster /__________________________________ -------------------------------------------- This strategy pretty much goes with all the other strategies. Every time your monster takes a hit, for whatever reason, it will be damaged. You goal is to minimize the damage as much as possible. If you do take a lot of damage, the UFO's are obliging enough to drop first-aid canisters. Just get there before your opponent does. NOTE: During Survival Mode, no Health Canisters are dropped. ________________________ / 8.3 Know Thy Monster /______________________________________________________ ------------------------ Every monster has strengths and weaknesses. These are discussed, in detail, in Chapter 9. Knowing not only the strengths and weaknesses of your monster but also your opponent will go a long way to ensure a victory. The bottom line is to play up the strengths and play down your monster's weaknesses as much as possible to avoid big problems down the road. ______________________________ / 8.4 To Rage or Not to Rage /________________________________________________ ------------------------------ All monsters, with the exception of Mothra, have a rage attack. The rage attack allows a monster to cause severe damage to their opponent through a combination of attacks amplified by the rage. When other attacks seem to be failing, a rage attack will definitely even the playing field. If you happen to be on the receiving end, find shelter quickly and keep in a defense posture. ______________________________ / 8.5 Dueling Breath Weapons /________________________________________________ ------------------------------ When two monsters utilize their breath weapons at the same time, these breath weapons will lock together creating a solid beam of energy between both monsters. The fun now begins as each monster attempts to gain dominance over the other monster. Each monster sends a "pulse" of energy down the beam toward their opponent. This "pulse" can be blue, green, or red depending on the button you press (discussed at the end of this section). Your goal is to either send a like-colored "pulse" down the beam or send a colored "pulse" that will overcome your opponents colored "pulse". You will see the color of your opponents "pulse" when you first send yours toward them. You must change the color to anticipate any color change they make in order to drive their beam back. The monster that wins the dual blasts the other monster backwards from the backlash of energy and that monster will also take major damage. These buttons determine the color of your "pulse": TRIANGLE: Green CIRCLE : Red SQUARE : Blue These are the colored "pulses" that can override another color: Red Overrides Blue Blue Overrides Green Green Overrides Red ___________________________ / 8.6 Keep Your Head Down /___________________________________________________ --------------------------- Ducking and attacking are probably the best ways to get in good hits while avoiding massive damage. When you duck, you can successfully defend against sweeps and low attacks. You can also reduce damage from breath weapons and avoid "blowback" from certain attacks. In addition to ducking, use buildings, rocks, or other obstacles to block a clear shot from your opponent. Also use a monster's flying ability to prevent being grabbed and lead monsters that like to jump into deep water to negate that ability. Again, keeping out of the other monster's reach can help ensure a longer survivability. _______________________________ / 8.7 The Art of Melee Combat /_______________________________________________ ------------------------------- Although you may know your opponents (as well as your own) strengths and weaknesses, it won't be an easy task to exploit them. Just because a monster is weak against blunt attacks doesn't mean you can automatically pound on them. You must learn to mix up your moves and keep your opponent off-balance. Use all the "weapons" in your arsenal to bear and watch the numbers to see what kind of damage you are doing. If an attack is only doing five points of damage, it may be time to change your attack method. Remember, once you have an opponent off-balance, you can string multiple attacks together to cause even more damage. ____________________________________ / 8.8 Hit Them Before They Hit You /__________________________________________ ------------------------------------ The best way to gain the upper hand quickly is to quickly put your opponent on the defensive. This basically prevents them from being able to set up their attacks plus you get to call the shots. In addition, you may find that although your first attacks aren't causing much damage, your later attacks may start causing a lot of damage because you have forced your opponent into a situation where they are desperately trying to attack but all they meet is your monster's fury. +============================+ | 9.
