OUTRO ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1. INTRO Hello, this is my FAQ for Gran Turismo Concept 2002 Tokyo-Geneva. This FAQ may only be found at www.gamefaqs.com and www.neoseeker.com. If you see this FAQ on any other site, please e-mail me at the above address. Gran Turismo is a trademark of Polyphony Digital and Sony Computer Entertainment. The lastest versions of this guide will be posted on Gamefaqs.com. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2. CONTROLS DIRECTIONAL BUTTONS: Steer LEFT ANALOGUE STICK: Steer RIGHT ANALOGUE STICK: No use TRIANGLE: Reverse SQUARE: Brake CIRCLE (O): Hand brake CROSS (X): Accelerate R1: Change viewpoint R2: Shift up (Manual transmission) L1: Rear view L2: Shift down (Manual transmission) START: Pause SELECT: Toggles the steering, accelerating, and braking indicators On/Off (while paused) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. TRACKS There are 5 tracks, but they are also all reversed, so there are 10 available. MID-FIELD RACEWAY Total length: 3579m Notes: A high-speed circuit. The key to fast times on this circuit is maintaining a fast exit speed out of the first corner. The left-hand hairpin in the final section should be approached carefully, without applying the brakes to harshly. TOKYO ROUTE 246 CIRCUIT Total length: 5120m Notes: This urban circuit is centred on Route 246 in Tokyo. At the first corner (Aoyama 2-chome), watch the distance-to-corner markers and try to find the optimum braking point. The other corners are not as sharp as they look, so try to maintain your speed as much as possible. SWISS ALPS Total length: 3290m Notes: A dirt course full of fast corners. On this wide course, strive for tight cornering to avoid lengthening your driving time and don't miss the inside clipping point of corners (i.e. the apex). TAHITI MAZE Total length: 3555m Notes: A technical dirt course on the South Pacific island of Tahiti. This tight, weaving course will test your drift cornering techniques to the limit. AUTUMN RING Total length: 3036m Notes: A medium speed technical course for advanced drivers. The numerous corners combine to form complex corner sequences and the key to maintaining a good rhythm is to find and maintain the right racing line. MID-FIELD RACEWAY II Total length: 3579m Notes: The downhill complex corner sequence that begins at the first turn is the trickiest spot on the track. Reduce your speed, and approach with caution! TOKYO ROUTE 246 CIRCUIT II Total length: 5120m Notes: Here you will run the Route 246 circuit in the reverse direction. The first corner is the Akasaka Mitsuke intersection. Watch out! The entrance to this corner is very tight. SWISS ALPS II Total length: 3290m Notes: The width of this course makes it hard to find the optimum cornering line and execute correct speed control. On your first attempt, watch your opponents for guidance to conquering this course. TAHITI MAZE II Total length: 3555m Notes: A reverse course through Tahiti Maze, where drift cornering is the name of the game. Drifting through the downhill corners can easily result in spinning, so watch your approach carefully. AUTUMN RING II Total length: 3036m Notes: Here you will drive the Autumn Ring course on a beautiful autumn day… but in the reverse direction! The many blind corners challenge you to find the optimum braking and turn-in points. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4. DRIVETHROUGH COURSE LICENCES --------------- Before beginning to race, you need to obtain course licences. These licences will grant you permission to race on new courses. When attempting to obtain a license, you are given a set car to use, as well as three target times which determine your trophy, GOLD, SILVER and BRONZE. If you manage to obtain a BRONZE trophy, you will be awarded with a prize car to race with. If you manage to obtain a GOLD trophy, you will be awarded with a better prize car to race with. SILVER is a little different. If you obtain this on your first try, you will only be awarded the BRONZE prize car, as you beat the BRONZE time, but did not meet the requirements of GOLD. If you go on to upgrade to GOLD, then you will be given the GOLD prize car. A bit confusing, but you'll understand it when you play the game. If you get GOLD first time, then you get both of the bonus cars. YAY! So, each license test has TWO cars that you can unlock. Before you start the test, you have a choice referring to the pace car options. PACE CAR YES: Follow the pace car. This is a good way to study the course, including learning the optimum braking points and cornering lines. Some features are disabled in this mode, such as ghost cars and Analyser. You can select the 'No Pace Car' option if you would prefer to drive on a dirt track without the dust that the Pace Car kicks up. PACE CAR NO: The advanced driver's mode (with no pace car). Choose this if you want to go for Gold. Best lap saves, ghost car, Analyser and other features are available. Now that you are ready to hit the track, I will just outline the car you will use, the times you need to beat, and some tips for each track, as well as the cars that you can win. GENERAL TIPS ------------ Have a few practice runs using the Pace Car to learn the track. Turn the Pace Car off and study the Demonstration to learn the racing line. When on a dirt course, turn off the Pace Car when going for Gold so that your vision will not be obstructed. REMEMBER: Turn the Pace Car off when going for Gold. MID-FIELD RACEWAY ----------------- TEST CAR: Mercedes-Benz SL500 TIMES: GOLD: 1'27.000 SILVER: 1'30.000 BRONZE: 1'37.000 PRIZE CARS: GOLD: Honda NSX-R Prototype LM Edition Road Version. SILVER: N/A BRONZE: Nissan Pennzoil Zexel GT-R TIPS: The second half of the first corner is not that sharp, so don't slow down too much. Your exit speed out of the first corner will greatly impact the overall time. The middle corner turns wide to the left. Fight the urge to floor the accelerator, but make sure not to let up through the exit. The last corner is a sharp left-hand hairpin bend, so brake early to reduce your entry speed. Hug the inside kerb, then open the throttle gently for a smooth exit out of the corner. TOKYO ROUTE 246 CIRCUIT ----------------------- TEST CAR: Ford GT40 LM Edition TIMES: GOLD: 1'36.000 SILVER: 1'43.000 BRONZE: 1'50.000 PRIZE CARS: GOLD: Mazda 6 LM Edition SILVER: N/A BRONZE: Hyundai HCD6 TIPS: Using the distance-to-corner markers as reference points, try to find the ideal braking point. Make sure you slow down early enough so you can use the inside kerbstones. After the tree-lined straight, when entering the left-hand turn that begins the complex corner sequence, don't turn the wheel too late or you will risk crashing into the fence on the right-hand side. Alternatively, brake lightly and hug the left-hand fence as you turn. During the corner before the State Guest House, it is difficult to change the orientation of the car so brake early, before you start going downhill. Overall, this course has many corners where you need to brake early for a low entry speed. SWISS ALPS ---------- TEST CAR: Toyota RSC Rally Car TIMES: GOLD: 1'24.000 SILVER: 1'30.000 BRONZE: 1'37.000 PRIZE CARS: GOLD: Honda Integra Type R LM Edition SILVER: N/A BRONZE: Lotus Elise Type 72 TIPS: The first corner requires deft steering to zoom through at full throttle. In all corners, follow a tight cornering line so that your car hugs the inside of the turn. When entering the last tight corners, stay away from the outside. Instead, hug the left-hand fence then orientate the car correctly for a smooth exit and recovery. TAHITI MAZE ----------- TEST CAR: Hyundai Accent Rally Car TIMES: GOLD: 2'00.000 SILVER: 2'06.000 BRONZE: 2'20.000 PRIZE CARS: GOLD: Jaguar XKR SILVER: N/A BRONZE: Infiniti FX45 TIPS: First practice your drifting. Once you are confident, practice maintaining a short driving line by hugging the inside of the track as you corner. Remember, a long driving line will seriously affect your time. AUTUMN RING ----------- TEST CAR: Lotus Elise TIMES: GOLD: 1'31.000 SILVER: 1'36.000 BRONZE: 1'42.000 PRIZE CARS: GOLD: Nissan GTR Concept LM Edition SILVER: N/A BRONZE: Cadillac Cien TIPS: During the complex corner sequence beginning after the first corner, execute careful throttle control to maintain a right-hand racing line. Don't focus exclusively on the corner you are currently in. Instead, plan the position and orientation of your car at least two corners ahead. MID-FIELD RACEWAY II -------------------- TEST CAR: Audi ABT Sportsline TT-R TIMES: GOLD: 1'14.000 SILVER: 1'18.000 BRONZE: 1'25.000 PRIZE CARS: GOLD: Nissan mm-R SILVER: N/A BRONZE: Toyota RSC TIPS: The toughest part is the first section, a high-speed, downhill S-bend. Don't try to speed through. Instead, brake early to keep your car stable through the turns. In the other corners, it's easy to understeer when exiting, so drive on the inside kerbstones and resist the urge to throttle the engine too soon. TOKYO ROUTE 246 CIRCUIT II -------------------------- TEST CAR: Honda NSX-R Prototype TIMES: GOLD: 1'59.000 SILVER: 2'06.000 BRONZE: 2'17.000 PRIZE CARS: GOLD: Nissan 350 Z LM Edition SILVER: N/A BRONZE: Toyota ESSO Ultraflo Supra TIPS: Watch out for the narrow entrance of the first corner. In the complex corner sequence that begins at the top of the hill, follow a wide-radius path to speed through. The key is to use the full width of the course to avoid having to decelerate. SWISS ALPS II ------------- TEST CAR: Ford Focus RS TIMES: GOLD: 1'31.000 SILVER: 1'37.000 BRONZE: 1'45.000 PRIZE CARS: GOLD: Mazda RX-8 LM Edition SILVER: N/A BRONZE: Audi ABT Sportsline TT-R TIPS: After the first left-hand corner comes a right-hand hairpin. A tight turning radius through this hairpin will make it easier to keep the right racing line through the next corner (a 90 degree left-hand turn) and accelerate out of it. Study the course layout in advance so you can see how to hug the inside of every corner. TAHITI MAZE II -------------- TEST CAR: Mitsubishi CZ-3 Tarmac Rally Car TIMES: GOLD: 1'57.000 SILVER: 2'07.000 BRONZE: 2'23.000 PRIZE CARS: GOLD: Toyota RSC Rally Car SILVER: N/A BRONZE: Daihatsu Copen TIPS: On an asphalt track, the steering wheel has to be turned in small increments to avoid skidding. On a dirt track, however, you can turn the wheel sharply to create lateral slip, or drift. If you turn the wheel extremely hard and take your foot off the accelerator at the right point in the corner, you can spin the car to line it up with the exit. There are many cornering techniques that use drift. With each corner, experiment with different approaches to achieve the correct drift. AUTUMN RING II -------------- TEST CAR: Nissan GT-R Concept TIMES: GOLD: 1'21.000 SILVER: 1'25.000 BRONZE: 1'34.000 PRIZE CARS: GOLD: Ford GT40 LM Edition SILVER: N/A BRONZE: Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec TIPS: Take a few practice runs on this zigzagging course to find the optimum cornering lines. As you drive, plan your car's position and attitude not just in the corner you are approaching, but also two or three corners ahead. A fast exit speed out to a straightaway is the key to a fast time, but in order to enter the corner with the right orientation, you first must find the right attitude with which to exit the corner before it. Plan your cornering this way, and you'll discover the optimum cornering line. Some license tests may seem impossible, but after a lot of practice, they can be done with a Gold prize. To prove this, I will list my times on each course: MID-FIELD RACEWAY: 1'25.607 TOKYO ROUTE 246 CIRCUIT: 1'34.868 SWISS ALPS: 1'22.814 TAHITI MAZE: 1'59.276 AUTUMN RING: 1'30.551 MID-FIELD RACEWAY II: 1'13.505 TOKYO ROUTE 246 CURCUIT II: 1'58.704 SWISS ALPS II: 1'30.612 TAHITI MAZE II: 1'56.564 AUTUMN RING II: 1'20.915 SINGLE RACE ----------- Now that you've got your licences, it's time to do some real racing! Before you race, you have to choose your difficulty level: NORMAL or PROFFESSIONAL. As its name suggests, NORMAL mode has you racing against opponents with a normal amount of difficulty, while PROFFESSIONAL mode pits you against faster and harder-to-beat opponents. If you manage to win a race, you will be awarded with a prize car. You will receive one car for winning on NORMAL mode, and you can unlock another one by winning the PROFFESSIONAL race. So, once again, each track has TWO cars available for you to unlock. You can check what races you haven't done in the GAME STATUS screen. There is no real strategy for racing, so just pick any car you like, select a course and choose a difficulty. You will then be asked about transmission. The options are AT (automatic) and MT (manual). Then you will pick your driving aids: ASM: ON TCS: ON - Beginner ASM: OFF TCS: ON - Medium ASM: OFF TCS: OFF - Expert ASM - Active Stability Management TCS - Traction Control System There are many cars that you can unlock. There are 20 available for you to unlock in SINGLE RACE mode. These cars then become available for you to use In SINGLE RACE mode, as well as FREE RUN and 2 PLAYER BATTLES modes.
