Controls
--------
Triangle........Use this button to hi-jack a car. If there is a car driving
by you, you will chase it if you hold the button.
Square..........Jump button. Using this, you can jump over some obstacles in
Liberty City. You can't jump high though, so the amount of
things you can jump over is quite limited
Circle..........Fire a weapon. After you have equipped a weapon of any kind,
you can puch Square to fire it, or swing it. In the case of a
grenade, the longer you hold the button, the further you'll
throw it
X...............Sprint. While pushing the left analog stick in any direction,
you can hold down X to run even faster. At the beginning of
the game, you can't run very far, as you run around more and
get exercise, you'll be able to run even farther.
Left Analog.....Using this stick, you can move the main character around on
the screen in any direction you want to.
D-Pad...........This acts exactly like the left analog stick in that you can
move the main character around
L1..............Using this will center the camera behind the mian character,
helpful when, in the vbery few occasions, the camera gets a
little wierd
L2..............Cycle through your list of available weapons
R1..............Use this to aim at the closest person around you. If you have
a gun, a red square will appear around them.
R2..............Just like L2, this is used to cycle through your list of
available weapons
R3..............Use this to look behind you, the camera will shift to a
different view
Start...........Pause the game. You can flip through the avaliable sub
screens by using left and right on the D-Pad. You can check
your stats in the first screen.
Select..........Using this, you can change your view. One of the selectable
views is an old school view, also known as, the GTA1 + 2
views, the overhead one. I don't know how people can stand
that view..but it's there for those that do like it
Controls (Inside of a car)
--------
Triangle........Use this to brake the car, although not a brake button, it
will stop the car and your character will climb out
Square..........Brake. This is one of the more important controls while
driving a vehicle. To avoid collisions, you'll have to use
the brakes sometimes.
Circle..........N/A
X...............Accelerate. This is the other important part of driving, you
have to be able to at least accelerate the gas to get moving
Left Analog.....Use this to move the car around Liberty City
D-pad...........Just like the analog stick, it'll move the car around liberty
city
L1..............Use this to change the radio station. There are 7 of them to
choose from and each of them offer a different type of music
L2..............Use this to shift the view to the left side of the car
L3..............Push down the left analog stick to sound the car's horn
R1..............Use this as a hand brake. Use it when turning corners. You
will do a fish tail around it
R2..............Look at the right side of the car
R3..............If you steal a fire truck, police car, taxi, or ambulance,
you get the chance to do a mission. Push down the right
analog stick to start the missions.
L2 + R2.........Look behind the car, the camer shifts behind you
Start...........Use this to pause the game and cycle through the available
menus, as mentioned in the normal controls
Select..........Using this, you can change your view. One of the selectable
views is an old school view, also known as, the GTA1 + 2
views, the overhead one. I don't know how people can stand
that view..but it's there for those that do like it
Stealing a Car
--------------
It's as easy as pressing a button! Seriously! Just go up to a parked car and
push triangle. That's the easy way. You can also run up along a moving
vehicle and steal it. You'll just have to throw the driver out the door.
Another method that you'll probably find yourself doing a lot is parking a
crappy car in front of a good one. The good one will stop, you get out and
steal it. But, be warned, sometimes, the driver will get back up and proceed
to kick your ass. Some even carry fire arms!
Busted!
-------
This is what's known as being arrested. When you begint o do bad things, a
star will light up on your wanted meter, the higher the meter, the more the
cops will do to find you. With one star, they'll just chase you for a while,
with two stars, they'll chase you until you find a way to get rid of your
wanted level. When you get to three stars, a helicoptor will be added to the
equation. Four, and a swat team will join the party. 5, and a second
helicoptor will appear. 6, and the FBI will get after you. With each star
increased on the wanted level, the police's AI goes up.
Wasted!
-------
If you play this game anything like I do, then this'll be happening to you a
lot more than getting busted. It basically means you've been killed. There
are a lot of ways for this to happen. You might get blown up in a car
explosion, you might get shot on by rival gangs or cops, you might use a
grenade that backfires and kills you, you might drown in the lake. When you
get wasted, you'll appear back at the nearest hospital with full health.
Some of your money will be gone as well.
Decreasing your wanted level
----------------------------
There are a few ways you bring your wanted level down. If you only have one
star filled up, then hide out for a while and the meter will disappear. If
you have more than one star filled, then it's a little more difficult. One
way is to find a police bribe. You can find these "badges" spread throughout
Liberty City. You can also buy them at the ammu-nation in Staunton Island.
If you take a visit to Pay and Spray, you will get a new paint jon as well as
decrease your wanted level. There's one more method that you might use. When
you complete a mission, your wanted level will disappear
Increasing your wanted level
----------------------------
Well, after a while of playing, you might just want to have fun, and try to
capture a police Rhino. In order to increase your wanted level, you basically
just have to do bad things. If you steal a car while a cop is watching, it
will raise your level. If you fire a gun at a cop, your level will go up,
and if you smash into a cop car, your wanted level will increase. Even if
you just get into a fight on the street, and a cop is watching, they'll pull
over, get out and try to arrest you.
Radar
-----
Yes, that small circulkar beeping thing in the bottom left hand corner of the
screen really is a radar. How do you use it you ask? Well, I'll telol you. It
has a map of the city on it. If you're stopped, it will zoom in on your
immediate area. If you're driving really fast, it'll zoom out so you can see
more of the city. The second you slow down, it will begin to zoom in again.
Using the radar will help you get through this game. Without, you'd be where
i am in life, nowhere. :P Most of the time, during missions, there will be a
pink dot on the radar, that is where you have to go. In other missions, like
where you have to destroy a few vehicles, they are displayed as green dots on
the radar. When you need to go to a store, a symbol of the store is located
on the radar. Finally, crime bosses. They are displayed on the map, but only
their first innitial is shown, so you better remember their first name!

3. Weapons

Baseball Bat
------------
A primative weapon, you'll probably be using this thing in the beginning
parts ogf the game. You can find it sitting outside of your hideout at any
point in the game. Pressing circle will swing the bat, while holding down the
button will allow you to swing faster. About three hits and the opponent will
be dead, but it only takes one shot to knock them down. Hit them while their
down!
Pistol
------
I doubt you'll be using this at all. You get it in one of the beginning
missions, that is, you lkearn where the store ammu-nation is and find out
there is a pistol hidden in the back alley. You can return to that spot any
time to find another pistol waiting for you. If you collect 10 of the 100
hidden packages, then a pistol will appear outside of each of your hideouts.
So now, instead of grabbing the bat, you can take both. Holding R1 will allow
you to target the closest person. Press circelt o fire it.
Sniper Rifle
------------
This gun is one of the better parts of the game. You first get it during one
of Salvatores missions. 8-ball will charge you one grand and in return, he
gives you a sniper rifle and a lot of explosives. After that, you can buy it
from the Ammu-Nation in Staunton Island. If you press circle while not
holding R1, the gun will not fire. This is almost like a safety precaution.
Ammo for the gun is expensive, so you don't want to waste it. Anyways,
holding R1 will go into a sniper view, by pushing square, you can zoom in, by
pressing X, you can zoom out. Push circle to shoot. The controls are
inverted, meaning that pushing up will move the curser down.
Uzi
---
This is a gun that you will most definaetly be using a lot throughout the
game. it's perfect for what you need it for; to kill people. It's a machine
gun, so it has rapid fire. Just hold down circle to do that. By holding r1,
just like the pistol, it will lock ontot he nearest person, you can then run
around in any direction while continuing to stay targeted at the enemy. It
will mow down any normal person in a matter of seconds and is great for
fighting gangs. Watch out though, it makes a lot of noise and will surely
attract the cops if they see you fire it, even at thin air!
Grenade
-------
Bah. I always hate these things, other people seem to find a lot of uses for
them though. By holding circle, you will pull your arm back, but the longer
you hold it, the further the grenade will go. Sounds cool huh? Well, there's
a catch, if you hold on to it for too long, then it'll blow up in your own
hands! That can never be too good. You also ahve to be careful when throwing
them. They might hit an object and bounce back at you. You can find them in
a lot of places. You can buy them fromt he Ammu-nation in Staunton Island,
but not in Portland

In this section of the FAQ, I will give detailed explanations on how to
complete missions for all the major crime bosses in Liberty City.

• Introduction

Give Me Liberty
---------------
Rewards: A hideout
A new crime boss
This is your first mission, so obviously, it won't be very hard. Simply turn
around and hop into the car with 8-ball. Now, a purple dot will appear on
your radar. Head in that direction. In this time, get used to driving,
because you'll be doing it a lot more than you think you will. When you reach
the dot, you'll find out that it is your new hideout. You can save here, but
not right now, int  he middle of your first mission. You and 8-ball get a
change of clothing. Now, hop back in the car again and follow the new beeping
dot. This will take you to Luigi's club. The bouncer will tell you to go
around back, so head through the alleyway. After a cut scene, you'll have a
new employer. Luigi.

• Luigi Goterelli

Luigi's Girl
------------
Rewards: $1 500
This is your first mission for a crime boss. To start with, steal a car. When
you do, a pink dot will appear on your radar. Head towards the dot. It turns
out to be a blue circle. Stop inside of the circle and the girl next to it,
Misty, will climb in. Now, head back to Luigi's by following the pink dot (or
L) on your radar. Stop in the blue circle. Mission Complete! How's it feel to
be a well paid taxi-driver? :P

Don't Spank Ma Bitch Up
-----------------------
Rewards: $4 000
This can be easy or hard, it's your decision. First, grab a car. You need to
drive towards the pink coloured dot on your radar. It helps greatly if you
have the baseball bat. When you can see the blue arrow hovering over a
person, then you know you've found him. When you get out of the car, he will
run at you. Use either your fists or a baseball bat to kill him. Or, you can
kill him by running him over a few times with your stolen vehicle. It's
cleaner, and you don't even have to get out of the car. Anyways, after he's
dead, take his car. A new dot will appear on your radar. Follow it to find
the pay 'n' spray, an autobody shop around the corner from Luigi's. Go inside
of the garage. Exit the car and walk out of the grage to complete the mission

Drive Misty For Me
------------------
Rewards: $1 000
New employer
Hmm, yest another easy mission, it seems you really are Luigi's personal taxi
driver, aren;t you. Anyways, grab a car and head towards the dot. Stop inside
the blue circle and push down the left analog stick to use the horn. Misty
will come walking out of the building. After she gets in the car, a new dot
will appear on the radar. Head towards it. Park in front of the blue light
and a cinematic scene will take over. Afterwards, you'll have a new employer,
Joey.

Pump Action Pimp
----------------
Rewards: $4 000
Now, you need to get a "piece" in order to do this mission. To do this, head
towards the white and black gun icon on your radar. head towards it. It's a
store called "Ammu-Nation" which specilizes in selling fire arms. Talk to the
shop owner, he'll say he's been expecting you and that there's a piece
waiting for you behind the shop. Head outside and go down the alley behind
the store. Turn into the little parking lot and grab the gun. There are a
couple of targets here in case you want to shoot something. Now, hop in a car
and head towards the dot ont he radar. When you reacht he car, stop in front
of it. Head over to the car and steal it, now that the pimp is lying
helplessly in the middle of the road, run him over a few times with your car.
You can also start shooting him if you want more of a challenge. He has a
shotgun though, so be careful.

The Fuzz Ball
-------------
Rewards: $2 000 - $4 000
Now, you have six minutes to run around town, pick up hookers and take them
to a police ball. Sounds fun? Well, grab a car and find out. Grab the first
car you see, as long as it isn';t a van or a bus. Go to the nearest green
dot. Pick up the hooker and take her to the pink dot. Park the dot in the
blue light and the hooker will get out. Now, go and find a new hooker. You
have to get at least four of them total to the fuzz ball in order to complete
the mission.

• Joey Leone

Mike 'Lips' Last Lunch
----------------------
Rewards: $10 000
This is one of my favorite missions, just because the idea of it kind of
makes you giddy. You have to stel a guys car, put a bomb in it then put it
back where you left it. Well, to start with, steal a car and head towards the
pink radar dot. It'll lead you to a diner. Park your car and steal the car
with the blue arrow over top of it. Now, you have to be really careful when
taking it to 8-balls (the new pink dot on the radar) because if you damage
it, then you have to go to pay 'n' spray and have it repaired. When you get
to 8-balls, drive into the garage. Doing so will put a bomb inside the car.
You need to press circle to activate it, but don't do that just yet. Drive
all the way back to the diner, the way is marked on the radar. When you get
there, you have to park the car how you found it, right between the lines.
Afterwards, press circle and exit the car. now, just stick around until the
timer ewaches zero. A cut scene takes over and shows the death of Mike Lips.

Farewell Chunky Lee Chong
-------------------------
Rewards: $10 000
This mission is easy. It helps if you have a gun,s o head over to
Ammu-Nation and grab the pistol. Now, head towards the pink dot. You can't
drive there, because there are traffic things int he way. Get out and run
through them to start a cut scene. It will show Chunk hiding in a french fry
stand. This is where it can get difficult. See all the guys standing around
wearing blue? Those are triads and they don't like you. Some will pull out
Uzis on you, while others will run at you with baseball bats. You can stand
there and kill them, but then Chunk might get away. Run towards his stand and
he will flee into an alley, towards his car. Try to kill him before he gets
there. if you don't get to him in time, grab the nearest car and chase after
him. Hunt him down, and ram him off the road or something.

Van Heist
---------
Rewards: $20 000
This mission is pretty cool. You need to steal the money out of a security
truck. Lets get to work. Grab a nearby car, prefrably a van or another
strong vehicle. Now, make your way towards the pink dot on the radar. It'll
move, so move with it. When you see it, start ramming it. You'll see a damage
meter off to the side telling you how much damage you're causing. When it
reaches full, the van will stop and the security guards will run away. If the
cops see you doing this, they will be on you like a rat to a moldy banana.
Take the security van. A new dot is on the radar, so head towards it. It'll
take you to an abandoned warehouse. Park the van inside the garage and calmly
exit. You probably had a wanted level, but now it's reduced to zero.

Cipriani's Chauffeur
--------------------
Rewards: $3000
A new crime boss
Uzi in stock at Ammu-Nation
Now, another airly easy mission. Start it by driving out of Joey's garage. I
hate the limo, but I don't know about you. It's big and clumsy. Now, head
towards the pink radar dot, it's a laundry place. Park in the blue circle and
a cut scene will take over, when it's over, cipriani will be back in the limo
and you will have triads fring bullets at you. Jee, doesn't everybody love
this guy. Anyways, put the medal to the medal and get the hell out of there.
Drive Cipriani home. After the mission's over, a big T will appear on the
radar, and the UZi will be in stock at Ammu-Nation.

Dead Skunk in the Trunk
-----------------------
Rewards: $10 000
I don't like this mission, don't know why, it's an uncontrollable feeling.
Anyways, start by stealing a car. Head towards the, you guessed it, pink dot
on the radar. It'll take you to a restaurant with a parked car out front. Get
out of your current car and take the one with the blue arrow overhead. Doing
so will trigger a cut scene, and the Forelli brothers will be coming after
you. Back up onto the road and try to head down it. You might get banged up
by the brothers, but keep on racing past them. When you reach the crusher,
park the car in the blue circle, get out and run away. You can also stand
there and watch the car get lowered into the crusher if for some bizzare
reason, you want to.

The Getaway
-----------
Rewards: $30 000
Another one of my least favorite missions. Joey must be famous for this.
Anyways, grab a car. Now, you have to head towards the pink dot ont he radar.
Be really careful you don't get a wanted meter, otherwise, you'll have to
find away to get rid of it completely. Anyways, head towards the radar dot
and park in the blue circle. Honk the horn and three guys will come running
out. After they get in the car, take them to the new radar dot. They'll hop
out of a car and run inside the bank, when they come out and get back inside
your car, floor it. You NEED to get out of here. The cops are after you! Head
for pay 'n' spray and get your car repainted to decrease the wanted meter.
Now, head back to the thieves hideout by going to the pink radar dot. Park in
the blue circle to trigger a cut scene, and the end of the mission.

• Tony Cipriani

Taking out the Laundry
----------------------
Rewards: $20 000
This mission is hard when you don't know how to do it. At the beginning, Tony
suggests that you stop by 8-balls and get some grenades. Well, that only
makes the mission harder to complete, so forget about 8-ball. Just simply
grab the nearest car and head towards any of the three green dots on the
radar. It'll lead to one of three fish trucks owned by Mr. Wong. You need to
destroy it. Park a car in front of truck, then get out and take the fish
truck. At this point, you have a few ways of beating it. You can drive it
around until it blows up, you can take it to the crusher, you can throw it in
the lake, the choice is up to you. Do the same for the other two trucks to
complete the mission.

The Pick Up
-----------
Rewards: $10 000
Now, the objective is to grab a suitcase full of money and bring it back to
Tony's rastaurant. What are you waiting for? Grab a car and drive to the pink
radar dot. Get out of the car and run down the alleyway. As soon as you pick
up the suitcase, a bunch of triads. I don't care how you do it, nor do I want
to know how you do it, but kill all of them. Possible ways are: pulling out
your Uzi, going back and grabbing a car to run them over with, using any
other sort of weapon. When they're dead, head back to Tony's restaurant. head
into the blue light to claim your money.

Salvatore Called a Meeting
--------------------------
Rewards: $15 000
A new crime boss
Now, head to the pnk dot on the you know what with a stolen car. Walk onto
the blue circle to trigger a cut scene. Joey will give you a limo and get in
the back of it. Now, head towards the new pink dot, Luigi's club. Pull up in
front and honk the horn to let him know you're there. After he gets in the
limo, head to Tony's. Pull up on the sid eof the road and park in the blue
light. Honk the horn and Tony will come. As soon as he gets in, a couple of
Triad trucks will appear from around the corner. Floor it towards the new
pink dot. You'll have to go a stepp hill to get there. There is a triad truck
off on the side of the road. Squeeze past the little space beside it and
follow the dirt path around to find a house. Go into the garage.

Triads and Tribulations
-----------------------

This mission is some what hard. You ahve to kill a triad leader. Steal the
car outside Tony's place and wait for his men to get in the car. now, drive
towards the pink dot. It's where you had to kill Chunky Lee Chong. Anyways,
don't get out of the car just yet, there are a lot of triads guarding their
leader. Get out of the car and fire a couple of shots at them, then get back
in the car. When the little punks come running at you, run them over. After
a while, get out, grab their guns, and run into the area, firing at the
leader, when he's dead, the mission is complete, but you might still ahve to
get past the triads again. Simply run through them with your guns blazing and
grab the nearest car.
Head to the second pink dot on the radar. Now, there will be a warlord
standing in front of a convenience store. He's just out in the open, all by
himself. Sounds a little easy to me. When you egt near him, a bunch more
triads will appear from inside the building with their guns unholstered. The
easiest way is to run them over with your car, but you can also put a couple
of bullets through their head if you want. Afterwards, ditch your current car
and grab the Triad truck (the one with Belly Up on the side) and start
driving towards the final dot.
This guy is located inside the triad fish factory, and the only way to get
in is to be driving a fish van, luckily, you already stole one. The gate
will slide open when you get near it. The warlord inside is randomly placed,
sometimes he'll be right in the middle, sometimes he's behind it. If you go
to the left, there's a hidden package behind the building. Anyways, hunt
around for the triad. He might be accompanied by other triads, he might be by
himself. Simply run him over a few times or put some lead into him. When he's
dead, you'll complete the mission and get your money.

Blow Fish
---------
Rewards: $30 000
You never can get enough of these easy missions. Anyways, grab a car and get
a move on over to 8-balls. There is a dust truck with a blue arrow hovering
over it here. Get inside the truck. There's a damage meter. If you do enough
damage to it, you'll blow your self up! Don't worry though, unless you crash
A LOT, you should be fine. The idea of the mission is to drive this truck all
the way back to the triad fish factory. It'll let in a dust truck, so don't
worry. Head around to the back of the building and park in the blue cricle.
Push circle and exit the truck. Your timer will shift to about 30 seconds
left. Start running for the gat to this place. When you get to the gate, the
truck will blow, blowing the factory with it. Mission Complete! You maywant
to run out of the gates before some very angry triads get you though.

Stupid limo. You have to drive the limo for this mission. Well, actually, as
the name implies, you have to bring Maria around town, basically, to where
she wants to go. Head towards the pink dot on the radar. It'll lead to the
resevoir, where Maria will purchase something off of a man. When she gets
back in the car, head towards the new pink dot. It leads to a party. When
Maria gets out and tells you to stay there, then stay there! She will go
inside, a few moments later, police will be everywhere. When she comes
running outside and gets back in the car, put the pedal to th medal and get
the hell out of there. There'll be gun fire every where and others trying to
escape the scene. Head towards the pink dot. It's salvatores house. Pak the
car in the garage to complete the mission.

Cutting the Grass

This mission is somewhat easy, and somewhat hard. I suggest grabbing a taxi
for this one. It shouldn't be hard to find, since they're found just about
everywhere. Anyways, when you get one, head towards Luigi's club, aka, the
pink dot on the radar. When you get there, there'll be a taxi with a blue
arrow hovering over it. Wait for Curly to come out of the club and get in the
taxi. Now, for the hard part. The taxi won't show up on your radar, so you
have to keep it within viewing range. Stay far back from the taxi and stop
whenever the taxi stops. There is a "spook-o-meter" on the right hand side of
the screen, if it gets full, then you fail the mission. If it gets too high,
the best thing to do is to just stop and wait until it lowers a little.
Anyways, he will drive towards a factory. After he's gotten out of the car,
stop in the middle of the blue circle. After a cut scene, you'll be left
playing again. There's a pink dot on the radar, it's Curly. Go around the
building to find him. Try to run him over. He does have a shotgun though, so
if he shoots tha car, the engine might get caught on fire, anyways, when he's
dead, you'll recieve your payment.

Bomb Da Base

Rewards: $100 000
This is a fun mission, in a wierd twisted sort of way. Anyways, start by
grabbing a car and heading to 8-balls. When you get there, go and stand on
the blue circle of light. 8-ball will open the door and tell you to come back
with $100 000. Well, if you have the money, then simply walk onto the blue
circle again. If you don't have the money, then you better grab a taxi and
start giving people rides :P Once you pay 8-ball the $100 000, even if you
fail the mission, you don't have to pay the money again. Anyways, 8-ball will
give you a sniper rifle. The top left hand corne rof the screen will give you
directions on how to use it. Grab the van nearby and 8-ball will get in with
you. Head towards the pink dot on the radar. It'll lead you to the factory
where you killed Curly. The objective is to destroy the big ship, well,
actually that's 8-balls job. Your job is to protect him. Go around to the
side of the building you're standing by to find a set of stairs leading up.
Follow them to the roof. Go to the other side of it so that you have a
perfect view of the giant ship. Take aim with your sniper rifle. Zoom in the
the guards beside the ramp. Kill them first. Then, go up and kill the guards
here. Now, move to the right, killing all the guards you see. If done
correctly, 8-ball will have no trouble running up the ramp and continuing to
blow up the ship. If you don't kill the guards, then they will kill 8-ball,
thus failing the mission.

Now, Salvatore is pleased with your progress, so he gives you an easy
mission. You need to grab a car from outside Luigis and take it to a crusher.
Well, grab the Mafi Sentenial outside Sal's house and head in the direction
of th pink dot. When you get near it, a message will appear on your pager.
It's Maria and she says she wants to meet with you. Well, ditch your current
mission and head towards the newer pink dot. You'll be at a dock. Pull into
the blue circle and a cut scene will take over. When it's over, you'll be in
a boat. Head towards the pink dot . It's Staunton Island! A cut scene will
appear when you pull into the blue circle. Afterwards, asuka will tell you
about you new hideout. It'll show up on your radar. A big A will also appear
representing Asuka.
