Walkthrough - FAQ/Walkthrough Version FGrand Theft Auto: Vice City Full FAQ and Walkthrough Written by Chase "AggroSk8er" Ansok Version 2.5f -- 28 December 2002 (f being final) "And so I says to Mable, I says 'READ THE FAQ!' And then I says, 'Before asking me a question about the location of something, check the map that came with your game!'" Notice! As of now, I am no longer answering any e-mails which have questions covered in my guide. As of January 31st, I will only respond to selected e-mails concerning matters I haven't answered a thousand times. ******************************************************************************* -------------------------------------___-----___-----___----______---_-_____--- ------------------------------------|---|---|---|---|---|--|------|-|-------|-- ------------------------------------|---|---|---|---|___|--|--|---|-|-|ŻŻŻŻŻ--- -------------------------------------|---|-|---|-----___---|--|___|-|-|_____--- --_________----_________--------------|---|---|-----|---|--|---___--|--_____|-- -|---------|--|---------|---|----------|-----|------|---|--|--|---|-|-|-------- -|---______|--|__-----__|--|-|----------|---|-------|---|--|--|---|-|-|_____--- -|--|------------|---|----|---|----------|-|--------|---|--|______|-|_______|-- -|--|_______-----|---|---|--|--|----------Ż----------ŻŻŻ----------------------- -|--______--|----|---|--|--|-|-|----------------------------------------------- -|-|------|-|----|---|-|--|___|-|--_______----_____------_____-----___----____- -|-|------|-|----|---|-|---__----||-------|--|-----|--__|-----|_--|---|--|----| -|-|______|-|----|---|-|--|--|---||--|----|--|_____|-|----------|-|---|--|----| -|__________|----|___|-|__|--|___||--|____|---_____--|-------___|--|---|--|---| ----------------------------------|----------|-----|--ŻŻ|---|-------|---|-|---| ----------------------------------|---____---|-----|----|---|--------|---|---|- ----------------------------------|--|----|--|-----|----|---|---------|_----|-- ----------------------------------|--|----|--|-----|----|---|____-------|---|-- ----------------------------------|-------|--|-----|----|--------|-----|---|--- ----------------------------------|_______|--|_____|----|________|----|----|--- -----------------------------------------------------------------------ŻŻŻŻ---- ******************************************************************************* Current completion progress: 100%--I am done. Look for a guide by me for "The Getaway" next month! My guide covers everything to get you about 90%, and then the hidden packages guide by bradsnet will get you that last 10%. What to expect before the guide is competely finished: The last numbers for Criminal Ratings--SOMEONE E-MAIL ME! Other guides that I would like you to read because well, they're good: http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/grand_theft_auto_vice_city_packages.txt Hidden Packages FAQ by bradsnet http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/grand_theft_auto_vice_city_a.txt Another GTA: VC FAQ by Myke--his is bigger and better. Wait, no. MINE is. O. Version History 2.5f -- 12/28/02 -- FAQ is updated. Stupid e-mails still flowing like a river...o, nad I got listings of the criminal, media, and flight records! I have the listings, but I need the numbers. If you get them, mail me! 2.4f -- 12/25/02 -- Merry Christmas and stuff. Fixed up the ASCII art up top. More FAQ questions. I still need my listings--SOMEONE HELP! 2.3f -- 12/21/02 -- Read the notice above, as well as some stuff in the FAQ. SOMEONE HELP WITH THE CRIMINAL AND MEDIA LEVELS! Please! More questions, more stuff, and a new unique jump tip. 2.2f -- 12/14/02 -- I fixed the BODYGUARD problem, and added more incredibly stupid questions to the guide. You wouldn't believe some of these e-mails... 2.1f -- 12/05/02 -- Happy December. I spent Thanksgiving weekend in Los Angeles, so sorry for the lack of updating. I fixed some errors, and added some stuff. The best thing I added is a "Helicopter Compatible" sign on some missions. This just says that if you use a helicopter instead of a car, you can save a lot of time and work. I just finished beating the game 100% again, so I have some alternate strategies. 2.0f -- 11/28/02 -- I can't add much else...the guide is practically done. If you find a site with this guide that isn't up to this version, e-mail me. I added the last codes, fixed some errors, and added a Gangs section, which'll be updated one more time. New note about assets: You must complete six of them, one being the Print Works for the last two missions. Not all, but do them anyway. You'll need them for 100%. 1.33a - 11/19/02 -- Meh...stuff was added. I've almost finished the game, and thus, this guide. 1.32a - 11/18/02 -- I don't know what happened, but GameFAQs messed up my version history. This should fix it. 1.31a - 11/17/02 -- I fixed some errors and added some strategies. I'm nearing the end of stuff to add. I broke my thumb, and I'm typing with a cast. Don't send mail unless it's urgent... 1.3a -- 11/16/02 -- I have added every single rampage and every unique jump. This is the best update since...well, Monday. Meh...enjoy. I also fixed a bunch of the car info up. 1.2a -- 11/15/02 -- Found some more checkpoint races, and added some rampages. I've began car details and the difficulties of missions. 1.1a -- 11/13/02 -- Whee. The great god of GameFAQs has given me Full Walk- through status. I've revamped the store section to be more detailed. That's about it. 1.0a -- 11/11/02 -- I have completed every storyline, every non-storyline, and every asset mission. Now, to find all of the rampages, jumps, and extraneous crap. Bah...I've also revamped a lot of stuff, and added the 100% section. -------------------- 0.7b -- 11/10/02 -- Yay for the British and Aussie's with Vice now! Enjoy! Today is the last day of beta. Hooray. Things Added: Every Love Fist and Biker mission, three Cuban missions, more jumps, and two rampages. Problems Fixed: More stupid stuff. Stupid, evil stuff. Cut my ASCII art down a bunch. 0.6b -- 11/08/02 -- Power outages are the suck. Seriously, I had like 40 mile per hour winds last night and it knocked over a tree. I did get to play Vice for a few hours, and I've finished: Things Added: All of the Asset Missions and all of the Vercetti missions. Problems Fixed: More bad text lines, and some outdated info. 0.5b -- 11/06/02 -- Ugh...e-mail backlog is hell. Problems Fixed: Some bad text lines Things Added: Asset Missions, FAQ Questions 0.41b - 11/05/02 -- A sorry excuse for an update, but the information is pretty good. 0.4b -- 11/04/02 -- I've updated an absolute ton, and I just reached a huge breaking point in the game. I can buy assets! I'll be adding lots of stuff. Beta ends on Friday. 0.3b -- 11/03/02 -- Another large update. I've added a couple of good missions as well as some rampages. E-mail backlog is hell, but Vice City needed some play time. 0.21b - 11/02/02 -- A nice large update. Many missons, side missions, and rampages added. I am no longer accepting submissions for the mission, Four Iron. Also added the "Super Easy Money" section. 0.2b -- 11/01/02 -- I finally added every single damned cheat for this game. After countless e-mails, I've given in. Please read the FAQ and the "What I Want" section. Also added the now famous "Good Citizen Bonus" to General Strategies. 0.11b - 10/31/02 -- I tried to have a social life tonight, and that means no big update (Halloween party for those who care). I added a new mission, fixed some evil typos, and am working on my e-mail backlog. 0.1b -- 10/30/02 -- Added a new section and did various updates do almost every section. READ THE FAQ NOW. 0.02b - 10/29/02 -- Accepted! I got my copy of the game, so I'll be updating almost every day now. I've done the first few missions, hit some unique jumps, and checked out some cars. This should help most people to start off. 0.01b - 10/29/02 -- Fixed the FAQ to be 79 characters per line. Hopefully it will be accepeted now. 0.0b -- 10/28/02 -- Just started the FAQ and provided a basic outline for myself. There will be a lot more as I begin to play. ******************************************************************************* Table of Contents O. Version History I. Introduction a. Personal Rant b. Special Thanks ******************************************************************************* I. Introduction Hello and welcome to my Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Walkthrough and FAQ. GTA: VC, as it will be referred to as of now, is the next installment of Rockstar's ground-breaking series. Grand Theft Auto 3 has won world-wide prestige for the amount of freedom and advanced gameplay that gamers had yet to see. Vice City blows it away. The amount of freedom you will find in Vice City will blow your mind. From the many weapons to the hundreds of cars, to the new side missions and mini-games, you will never put your controller down. I am writing this FAQ as I play the game, so it will be completed the more I play. This is the first full FAQ I have ever written, so bear with me here. A. Personal Rant Since the first day the FAQ has been posted, I have received over 4000 e-mails (seriously), and 500 IM's. Some info will not be posted, many things will not be responded to. Some info I won't post until I find it, others I won't dven notice. Please don't send e-mail saying, "HEY I GAVE YOU INFO AND IT WASN'T POSTED." It annoys me. Thanks to the many people who told me about crouching and the HONDA CRX. Also, many of you are sending in crap codes like "Swim", "Get an F22", "Get a Mustang", "Unlock all city", etc. They are bull. B. About This Guide This is a COMPLETE Vice City walkthrough. It should have essentially everything about the game included, with the exception of easter eggs, glitches, and other random crap. C. What I Want (And Don't Want) Here is what I want: Suggestions for missions BESIDES "Four Iron"! I've had more e-mails about this than I can count!, cool tricks that I haven't found, important information, pleasant e-mails, questions that I haven't answered 40,000 times, and asking my permission for use of this guide. What I don't want: Questions about helicopters, garages, and robbing stores (they're in the FAQ), cheats (I don't need them any more), stupid little things, rampage locations (I add those when I find them), jackass rants at me (you'd be amazed), cheats, Klez, and other viruses. I've received over 30 copies of Klez, so now I'm running three firewalls, and two anti-virus programs. If it isn't in either one, feel free to send it in. If it's good, I'll post it, if not, I'll probably give you a reply. Also note that it really helps if your title has something to do with your e-mail. "Vice City", "GTA", "Question", and "(no subject)" get responded to last usually, because I don't know whether they're good things or not. ******************************************************************************* II. Cast of Characters Alex Shrub -- The congressman of Vice City, who has earned his way to the top because of a great haircut, and because he says things that make people nod their heads. Auntie Poulet -- The Haitian Ms. Cleo who wants Tommy to fight back against the Cubans. She gives him a strange tea that screws with his mind. Avery Carrington -- A Texas bigman tutoring Donald Love in business, while giving Tommy some nice busy work. Cam Jones -- A locked up safe cracker used in "The Job." Candy Suxxx -- A local porn star recruited for Tommy's film studio. Voiced by Jenna Jameson. Colonel Cortez -- A rich man who is fighting a personal war against the French. He sets Tommy up to Diaz, but mostly gives him little errands to run...like stealing a tank. Earnest -- The printer at the Print Works, who helps you counterfeit some cold hard cash. Gonzales -- The fat bastard that Cortez sends you to kill. Hilary -- A sick man with some closure issues. The best driver in Vice City used in the mission "The Job." He fails miserably. Leo Teal -- A hitman/chef that you whack for his phone... Ice Cream Lady -- The psychotic loonie that sells Cherry Popper Ice Creams to Tommy. She loathes children with a passion... Ken Rosenburg -- Tommy's lawyer that gives him some nice easy work to start his stay in Vice City, and helps him out along the way. Lance Vance -- Your partner in crime for most of the game. He's fighting back against Diaz becaue his brother was killed. Love Fist -- The drunken band of bisexual Scots that's doing a show in Vice City. You can do work for them later. Paul from Kent -- The most annoying Brit you'll ever find. He spends most of his time at the Malibu Club, but serves some storyline purpose. "Big" Mitch Baker -- Leader of the Biker gang who recruits Tommy because he needs a favor from them. He's a badass. Pastor Richards -- Another pyscho that is trying to get money so he can create a salvation statue in his own image to be shot into space when nuclear war begins. Phil Cassidy -- A former Vietnam veteran (or so he thinks) that sets Tommy up with some nice firepower, and loses his arm in the deal. Ricardo Diaz -- The coke baron that lives on Starfish Island. He befriends Tommy and gives him some work for his personal gain. Sonny Forelli -- A big man in the mafia who sends Tommy to Vice City with a drug deal, and gets pissed when it gets blown to hell. Steve Scott -- An adult film director with some strange visions on what makes a porno film...sharks, aliens, and poontang. Tommy Vercetii -- You. Umberto Robina -- Leader of the Cuban gang who gives Tommy some work to prove he has "big cajones". --------------------- E. Good Citizen Bonus Since the whole world has e-mailed me about it, I'm posting it. If you see a cop running after a guy, beat the other guy to oblivion. You get $50 for knocking him down, and $50 for every time you kick him on the ground. The kicking thing works three times. Another good way to earn money fast. ---------------------- G. General Game Strategies i. **** the Police! This section will contain strategies about the police, stars, and how to avoid getting busted. 1. If you have one star, just drive around. Police will come on foot and beat you with a night stick, but just driving will drop your wanted level. 2. At two stars, you should drive to your hideout and change clothes. That will get rid of the level. Police will now be shooting at you, so you're not that safe. 3. At three stars, police get vicious. They spawn everywhere, so find a Pay-and-Spray and lose that level. Also, undercover cops in Banshees and Cheetah start showing up, and they're a bit faster than normal ones and great for Vigilante Missions. There are also annoying as hell spike strips out and road blocks. 4. At four stars, the SWAT comes in, and they have rifles. You can be plunked down in no time. GET TO A PAY-AND-SPRAY. Police choppers will also deploy them, so you're not safe anywhere. 5. At five stars, the FBI is coming, and hell is breaking loose. Their Ruger's will eat you alive, and their cars are very fast. Find a frickin' Pay-and-Spray! 6. At six stars, the army is here. M60's, tanks, Barracks OL's... Run, just run for your life...towards a Pay-and-Spray...or take a tank. 7. Memorize Police Bribe locations, when in need, drive to them. This can ease missions up a ton. 8. Never run over a cop. That's two stars right there and that will lead to more very fast... ii. How Not to Die... This section will, of course, tell you ways to save yourself before death. 1. Car on fire? BAIL! You can get out of a moving car and take minimal damage. Don't explode. 2. Motorcycles are dangerous. Too many falls and you'll get wasted. 3. Long jumps are bad. Falling can take some massive health away. 4. Try to always keep full health and armor. Learn locations of the pick ups and grab them before missions. 5. Don't piss off a gang without protection. Gangs hang in packs, and pistols will own melee weapons anyday. iii. General Mission Strategies Most missions have a common point to them, and a general strategy can give you a basis on how to go about them. 1. Fast cars are good for timed missions, but for those that aren't, safety is first. Don't get blown up, busted, or killed stupidly. 2. Motorcycles are fun to ride but handle not so good...it's very easy to take a lot of damage if you hit something. 3. Some missions will piss off gangs, make a copy of the save before this mission so you can make sure you haven't lost something valuable. 4. Can't pass a mission? Go do something else. Kill some people, go package hunting, do someone else's missions, or turn the game off and read a book. Take some time to ease up, and then focus on the task at hand. It makes life much easier. 5. Helicopters are your friend. Anything that says 'Get to point A to point B', and doesn't give you a set vehicle, try a helicopter. It keeps you out of most gunfire. iv. Making the Blingy Blingy and Early Money Money actually serves a purpose in this game, unlike GTA3 where it was a joke almost. You receive less money for many things, and have to buy your weapons and hideouts for good money. First of course, is doing missions. Missions will earn you good money, but advance the game, which may do bad things (like angering gangs). Phone missions are notorious for this. Taxi missions are very easy, and can land you some good profit over time. Vigilante missions are pretty challenging, but give good rewards as well. All of the R3 missions are profitable. The newest feature to GTA is to rob stores. This earns about $1000 every time, and you can rob the same store many times. My favorite is the Corner Store, head over to that section for details. Early in the game, money is hard to come by. The best for this is taxi missions. Earn quick money, then buy a Pistol from Ammunation. Find the store closest to a Pay-and-Spray and rob it. Repeat this until you have enough to buy a couple of hideouts. Do some missions, and keep this up. When you get to the west island, get a Firetruck and get a ton of money that way. Keep robbing stores. Once you can buy assets, get Sunshine Autos. Complete its missions, and then get a ton of money from the street races. I have over $3 Million, and that was basically my strategy. I was only short on money a few times, and that was because I died. v. More Stuff If I have a tip I feel like adding, it will go here. ----------------- H. Helicopter Locations Once the west island is open, you can get helicopters. Mavericks: On top of Hyman Condos (must own Hyman Condos). On top of Starfish Island mansion. Police Maverick: On top of Downtown police station. VCN Maverick: On top of VCN building in Downtown. Sparrows (these all start checkpoint missions): Behind the Pay-and-Spray in Ocean Beach is a pink building. On top of it is the Sparrow that starts a checkpoint race. Across the street from the Vice Point Pay-and-Spray is a large apartment complex. Turn right as you enter and you'll see it in plain sight. Little Haiti Sparrow--This one is best reached if you already have a helicopter. A few blocks behind Kaufman Cabs in Little Haiti and on top of a roof is this Sparrow. (Also reached by a Unique Jump) Starting from the Greasy Chopper in Downtown, head north. The first building on your right has a white staircase that leads to this Sparrow. You have to have G-Spotlight completed to get this Sparrow. Sea Sparrow: Behind the Starfish Island mansion (must have 80 hidden packages). Hunters: Northernmost part of the air base (must have 100 hidden packages and/or completion of 'Keep Your Friends Close'). Southernmost part of the east island, on a helipad next to a building (must have both 100 hidden packages and completion of 'Keep Your Friends Close'). ----------------- I. Criminal, Media, and Flight Ratings (FINALLY!) Thank you bullsfan7210! THANK YOU! Sadly, I still need the numbers for each, so please e-mail me. i. Of course. Hey, at least you GET something, unlike in GTA3, where all you got was the 'glory'. If I missed something above, tell me. What you get for 100%: 200 Max Health 200 Max Armor Cars you drive can take twice as much damage Infinite Ammo! The "Frankie" outfit--A white shirt with black letters, "I completed Vice City and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt." Three Bodyguards--Go out of Starfish Island to the east. Come back after you enter Vice Point. Go into the little room on the right as you enter the mansion. Three guards SHOULD be there. They are, however, a waste of time and money ($1000 each). They follow you around like lapdogs, but only attack hostile targets that you lock on to AND FIRE. Every gun in your arsenel at 100% should kill in one-shot, so it's pretty lame. ******************************************************************************* IV.
