1.Introduction
================================================================================
Greetings. You have found KingContributor's FAQ/Walkthrough for Kingdom Hearts.
I know I'm about six years late on this one, but I just beat Kingdom Hearts, and
I felt compelled to write this guide for it. That's how good the game was.
Kingdom Hearts was released in October of 2002 for the Playstation 2. It is an
RPG that includes a bunch of worlds that are Disney themed. It appeals to the
fans of RPGs, but it also appeals to people who love Disney movies and classics.
You play as Sora through a bunch of familiar worlds and fight alongside familiar
characters as well.
Well, that's a look at Kingdom Hearts. I hope you find this FAQ helpful among
the already 15 other walkthroughs up, but nonetheless, I'm adding my name work
up there as well. Use the email address if you need help with something, or if
you have a strategy for a boss that is better than mine. Alright, here we go.
================================================================================
2.FAQ
================================================================================
Q:What is Kingdom Hearts?
A:Kingdom Hearts is an RPG that involves a bunch of classic Disney characters
and levels. You play as a young boy named Sora who must use a Keyblade to seal
the worlds from a bunch of evil creatures called Heartless. It's a pretty fun
game that has flaws, but it's good nonetheless.
Q:How do I skip cutscenes?
A:Unfortunately, you can't. This becomes very tedious when you die a lot and
have to watch the same scene over and over. Plus, you don't really feel like
watching the cutscenes over and over again as you play through the game more
times.
Q:What's the deal with equipment and all that?
A:This can be real tricky to get. Basically, you have a bunch of commands.
Attacking is pretty straightfoward. Spells allow you to use different elements,
but you have to move the stick to the spells part. There are also shortcuts. As
for equipment, you have to go to the menu screen and manage it from there. You
can choose what you want to equip to Sora, Donald, Goofy, and any other Disney
character in your party. Also, you can do that with abilities as well.
Q:How do you save?
A:There are save points throughout the game. You'll find these green circles of
light. They are your save points. You must also go here to board the gummi ship
and customize the people in your party.
Q:What's the deal with synthesizing and all that?
A:Synthesizing is really fun. You get to break down a certain object and use it
to make something more powerful. I have a whole section on synthesizing, so
refer to that section for details.
Q:How do I fight?
A:Fighting is very important in KH. Basically, you have to lock onto the enemy
and whack them with your Key Blade using X. The finer mechanics of fighting
are described in the Battling Mechanics section for those people who are new to
RPGs and such.
Q:How do I beat this boss/level/task?
A:I wrote an FAQ for a reason. Look in it first, and if you can't find the anwer
to your question, simply email me. I would be glad to answer questions about the
game. Most of those things can be beaten by looking around and examining
everything. That usually helps with puzzles/tasks. Surprisingly, there aren't
really any hard puzzles. Just a bunch of exploration to do and figuring out the
obvious tasks laid before you, some of which, aren't so obvious.
Q:Hello, I'm from this website.....
A:Sure, I'd be happy to have you host my work on your site. Please follow the
information in the contact information and legal disclaimer section to know how
to go about getting my work on your site. NOTE: ONCE FINAL VERSION IS PUBLISHED,
I WILL NO LONGER ACCEPT REQUESTS TO HAVE THIS FAQ HOSTED. THIS WOULD CAUSE FOR
ANOTHER UPDATE, WHICH WILL NOT HAPPEN SINCE IT IS THE FINAL VERSION!!!!
THE FINAL UPDATE HAS BEEN PUBLISHED!! I NO LONGER ACCEPT REQUESTS FOR PEOPLE TO
HOST MY FAQ ON THEIR SITE!! DON'T WORRY, THERE WILL BE MORE WORK FROM ME IN THE
FUTURE. LOOK FOR CHAIN OF MEMORIES AND KINGDOM HEARTS II FAQS TO GRAB FROM HERE!

4.Characters
================================================================================
The following is taken directly from the game's manual. It is protected by its
respective copyright owners and is not, in anyway, the work of KingContributor.
Sora: Main character. Age 14. As a teenager he has his share of concerns, but he
manages to keep an upbeat attitude. He may seem simple-minded at times, but he
has a strong sense of justice.
Goofy: Captain of the royal knights, a soldier who despises weapons. Under the
king's orders, he accompanies Donald on the quest to find the key. An easy
going, clumsy knight.
Donald Duck: Court wizard and loyal servant to the king. He embarks on a journey
to carry out the missing king's orders: to find a mysterious "key" and it's
owner. A feisty, impatient magician.
Riku: Age 15. He may seem cool and collected for his age, but he is far from the
quiet type. Always curious about the unknown, he begins to question the small,
closed world in which he lives.
Kairi: Age 14. She moved to Sora and Riku's island a few years ago. Though she
may appear delicate, she possesses a strong, unyielding will.
Heartless: Mysterious beings that hunt Sora relentlessly. Many types of
Heartless exist.

5.Walkthrough
================================================================================
Here it is, the prime beef of the guide. This will, obviously, cover the game's
story from the beginning of Destiny Islands, all the way to End of the World.
Remember, if you have any strategies or things I've missed, please email me with
detailed description on what I missed. I will add it to the FAQ with full credit
to you of course. Let's press forward. NOTE: WALKTHROUGH DOES NOT COVER THE LONG
OPENING CUTSCENE!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A.Awakening
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once the opening cutscene is over, you will find yourself on a Snow White drawn
platform. There is so much to do and little time. Don't worry, the door is still
shut, the game urges you to not be afraid and step forward. After reading the
explanation on how to move, step forward. Three platforms will rise out of the
platform. On them are a sword, shield, and staff. Each of these items represents
a certain kind of power. You will be prompted to choose one and give up another.
Sword: Gives you strength
Staff: Wisdom and magic
Shield: Defense.
Personally, I would take the staff and give up the sword, but it's your call.
Just be aware that whatever you choose and give up, this will affect the
abilities you learn. Following the instructions given after, use Circle to jump
to the power you want. Once you confirm the form you chose, the platfrom will
shatter into pieces.
After a bit of falling, you will end up on the Cinderella platform. It will tell
you you've gained the power to fight and provide an explanation on what button
to press. Do so, and it will go on to explain the HP and MP gauges that are on
the bottom right of the screen. Suddenly, a bunch of black creatures will pop
out of the platform and attack. These guys are one form of many Heartless you
will be fighting. Teach them a lesson and defeat them. You will be told about
experience and items that enemies drop. More Heartless will appear, and the game
then explains the targeting system. Defeat them, and you'll be sucked into
darkness and fall on another platform.
This one has a door directly across from you. Approach it to learn about the
field icon that will appear on any objects that can be targeted. Select Examine
to have Sora attempt to open the door. A chest will then appear. Approach the
chest to learn about the ? Command which can turn into various commands. Select
open, and a large crate will appear with an explanation of pushing crates. Push
the crate to trigger a smashing crates explanation. Smash it to learn about
items. Pick up the Potion and learn how to select items. Don't you just love
RPGs and their explanations? The door will light up and produce a barrel with
another text explanation. Lock onto the barrel and smash it to cause the door to
light up. Finally, proceed forward and open it by using Examine.
You are now outside. The game wants you to tell it about yourself by answering
three questions. You will get these questions by talking to Tidus, Selphie, and
Wakka. The way you answer these questions affects the abilities you learn. After
you answer the questions, you'll be given some story text and sent to the next
platform.
Sleeping Beauty's platform requires some action. After learning about pausing
the game, a bunch of Hearless will appear. Let's get rid of these creepy things
already. Once they are gone, a save point will appear with another explanation.
A path will appear from the platform. Save your game, and ascend up the path.
You are now at the Beauty and the Beast platform where your first official fight
will begin. You must fight your own shadow, or Darkside as it's called. Good
luck, but you won't have too much trouble. He's a piece of cake. Then again, he
is the first boss.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
% Boss Fight: Darkside %
% HP 240 EXP 18 %
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
Darkside is pretty easy, but you can lose to him, so be extremely careful. To
start of the fight, Darkside will summon a ball of energy and punch his hand
into the platform. This causes a swirl of darkness that can bring out Heartless.
While he is summoning his dark energy, smack his hands and ignore the Heartless
for now. Once he brings his hands back up, attack the Heartless while waiting
for an available target. Darkside has two targets, hands and head. His hands are
the easiest target, as they are the ones you have access to the most.
Another attack of his is to shoot energy beams from his chest. He will get down
on his knees and shoot beams from his chest. While he is doing this, avoid them,
and hit his hands as they are launching. Be sure to avoid the beams, as they are
very annoying and cause unnecessary damage.
One final thing you might see is him lay his head down. This may or may not
happen during this particular fight, but he does do it some of the others. This
is just an easy way for you to attack his head. He doesn't do anything while
laying his head down.
Okay, so those are the three major things you have to look out for in this
fight. In other fights against him, new things may be added. Just keep striking
whatever target is available until you beat him.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
Darkside will create a void of darkness that Sora will be sucked into. There is
some more game text, and you are finally at the first level. Man, don't you
just love how RPGs treat you like you are stupid?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
B.Destiny Islands
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sora wakes up on a beach with Kairi standing over him. After a bit of exchanged
dialogue between them, you will finally be able to start exploring. This takes
you to day 1 of the three day Destiny Islands.
**************************
*Day 1: Building the Raft*
**************************
Well, according to the scene dialogue, Sora, Riku, and Kairi want to see other
worlds and plan on using it to go see other worlds. Kairi says you have to find
some supplies for her. She wants two logs, one cloth, and one rope. These are
the materials you must find. You can also mess around on the island and gain
some experience too. Okay, let's get supply hunting.
Logs-The first log you will come across is right on the seashore. It's not too
far from where you go to talk to Kairi. Right near that location is a wooden
shed type building. Jump up to there by getting to higher ground, and cross the
bridge to where Riku is. Your second log is lying on the island he's on.
Cloth-Head back to the wooden shed and go up the ramps near it. Next, proceed
right and take the path that winds up around the tree. Eventually, you'll come
to an opening where a cloth his hanging on the wall. Grab it.
Rope-Remember the junction you came to that had the path to the treehouse and
the ladder to the left? Well, take that ladder and follow the bridge until you
see Wakka swinging his sword. Near him is the rope you will need.
Take the items back to Kairi for a Hi-Potion. She will ask you if you are ready
to call it a day. Don't do so just yet because you can fight a couple of the
residents on Destiny Islands for some EXP and possible leveling up. Well, since
Riku is closer, we'll go fight him first. Head to the island that Riku is one
and talk to him. You will be given an option of fighting him.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
% Mini Boss: Riku %
% HP: None Exp: 5 %
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
This is a pretty tough fight, but it is possible to defeat Riku at this stage in
the game. With Riku, you can't attack him directly because he's super fast and
has great endurance. Also, he'll freqenly jump into the air and try and strike
you with his sword.
When Riku jumps in the air and strikes, dodge quickly and try and get a good hit
or two. You might have to repeat this process a couple of times. Also, move out
of the way when Riku falls because he can kick himself back up and hit you,
which causes a lot of damage. The main thing with this battle is strategy and
careful planning. Go after Riku when you have an open opportunity, but don't try
to directly rush at him.
If you are having trouble with this battle, jump around a lot. You can jump and
dodge Riku's attacks. If he stands still and taunts you, there is a good chance
that your blows will not work. If you hit him and no damage is given, step away
from him because he will unleash a massive sword strike. That's all you really
can do. Good luck with this battle because you get 5 EXP and a potion for being
the victor.
IMPORTANT NOTE!!! DON'T FALL OFF OF THE ISLAND YOU ARE BATTLING ON, OR YOU'LL
LOSE THE FIGHT AUTOMATICALLY. TRY AND STAY IN THE CENTER OF THE ISLAND!!!
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
Once you are done fighting Riku to your heart's content, you have another person
that you can take on. Remember Wakka where you got the rope? Well, you can
challenge him too. Let's go and kick his butt. Remember, he's in the same area
that you got the rope at.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
% Mini Boss: Tidus %
% HP: None EXP: 2 %
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
Tidus is pretty easy. He's fast like Riku and isn't afraid to charge you, but he
is so much weaker. You'll want to jump and dodge his fast assaults, but you
don't want to jump directly over him because his staff will still hit you. If
you run from him for a little while, he'll get mad and pause. That's your chance
to lay some serious smackdown on him. And that's about it. Rinse and repeat
until you beat the brat.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
Okay, now that you beat Wakka, let's move to the docks and talk to Selphie. She
is also someone you can duel against for ExP and battle practice.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
% Mini Boss: Selphie %
% HP: None EXP: 1 %
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
If you thought Wakka was easy, you haven't fought Selphie. Oh my god, she is
easy as hell. She runs around with a whip and will frequently toss it at you. If
you swing your sword as she's swinging the whip, you'll get a tech and some
points. If you hear her talk, she''s ready to swing the whip at you. Just run at
her, strike, and parry the whip. There you go, Selphie is defeated.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
From the docks, head over to Tidus who is on the seashore. You also have the
option of dueling him. Tidus is the hardest of the three you have to beat other
than Riku, so here we go.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
% Mini Boss: Wakka %
% HP: None EXP: 1 %
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
Wakka is more difficult than the kids, so listen up. He has this ball that he
lobs at you. This can do sufficient amount of damage and cause you to lose. Here
is a simple strategy. When he lobs the ball at you, hit the ball and send it
back at him. This wil daze him and allow you to hit him with your sword. Keep
chasing him and striking him. He also can give you a really good sucker punch if
you get too close, so be on the lookout. There you go, you just beat Tidus.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
Alright, that's all you can do for now. Go talk to Kairi and call it a day. This
will trigger a cutscene with dialogue between Riku, Kairi, and Sora. Then, there
is another cutscene with Donald Duck going to visit King Micky. Uh-oh, he's not
there. AHA! Pluto has a note. After scanning it, Donald runs out quacking. More
cutscene and hilarity ensues, and it is then time for day 2 on Destiny Islands.
*******************************
*Day 2: Hunting for Provisions*
*******************************
Alright, day 2. You guys need food for the trip to other worlds, so Kairi is
going to have you do a little food hunting. Remember where Kairi was standing?
Well, there is a doorway there that leads to the back of the island. This is
where you need to be.
OPTIONAL FIGHTING ALERT!! BEFORE HEADING TO THE BACK OF THE ISLAND, HEAD TO
WHERE RIKU WAS TO FIND TIDUS. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO CHALLENGE HIM, SELPHIE, AND
WAKKA AT THE SAME TIME. THIS IS OPTIONAL, BUT IT'S GOOD TO PRACTICE AND GAIN
EXP!!!
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
% Mini Boss: Wakka, Selphie, Tidus %
% HP: None EXP: 4 %
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
This battle is much harder because you have three people coming after you all at
the same time. They all have the same strength as before, so you should take
them out accordingly.
I recommend that you first start with Tidus, since he's the hardest of all of
them. Use the same strategy as before. Jump around and dodge until he pauses.
Strike when you can, and try to match his speed/agility.
Next, take out Selphie. Bring her down by continually striking her and parrying
the whip that she lashes at you.
The battle is cake once it's just you and Wakka. Send the balls flying back at
him like you did, and strike without mercy.
NOTE: USE POTIONS AS NEEDED!! YOU SHOULD HAVE ACCUMULATED A COUPLE TO USE IF
YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE WITH THIS BATTLE!!
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
Now that you pwned those three n00bs, it's time to talk to Kairi. Head to the
area you first met her in and head through the door. This takes you to the cove.
Before heading to Kairi, stop to talk to Riku. He asks you what you would name
the raft. Put your answer in, and he will disagree. He will then challenge you
to a race. Winner gets to have his name for the raft and share a Paopu with
Kairi |
