It has the Why Do This, General Help, Guide (now Instructions), Random Statements, and Other Stuff sections (hopefully) complete. v 1.1 I added supercheats.com to the accepted websites list and fixed the elite enemy in Valley of Avalar (thanks to Vermillion). v 1.2 Found an error in Valley of Avalar armor section (thanks to Mryan) and corrected it. v 1.3 Found a left/right confusion error in the Ruins of Warfang magic gems section (thanks to Ian G.) and corrected it. v 2.0 I added the first half of the Full Walkthrough section of the guide. v 2.1 Fixed the elite enemy of the Ruins of Warfang (thanks to Patrick F.). I did not know that they could have three weaknesses. v 2.2 Found an error in the items layout of the Catacombs (thanks to Natalie G.). I will hopefully have the rest of the walkthrough up soon. v 3.0 After months of slacking and procrastination, I finished Guide, added Story So Far, Controls, Extras, and Enemies v 3.1 Fixed the mess-up in the Floating Islands level of the guide (thanks to Julian M.). It turns out that I had left out a gem in the first area. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /------------\ | STORY SO FAR | \------------/ This game is the sequel to The Legend of Spyro: the Eternal Night. At the end of Spyro’s last adventure, he had finally found Cynder at the Mountain of Malefor after chasing her down through the entire world. During the fight with Gaul, the Ape King, Spyro was infused with all of the powers of the Dark Lord himself. Though Spyro was powerful, he could not control the sudden surge of the Dark Lord’s power, unleashing it and bringing down the whole mountain. Cynder managed to knock some sense into him and bring him back to himself, but it was to late. To save himself, Cynder, and Sparx, he used his own power to encase the three of them in a gigantic orange crystal. They have remained there ever since. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /--------\ | CONTROLS | \--------/ Like the name says, the controls of the game. *Note: These are the controls for the PS2/3 version. In Dawn of the Dragon, there are many more types of enemies. SMALL ENEMY Small grublin, low health, low damage. Very annoying due to numbers. Not very hard to get rid of, but there are usually a lot of them. No specific moves to look out for. First appearance in The Catacombs. Elite in The Catacombs. SMALL FLYING ENEMY A grublin with wings! Yay! Same as the small enemy, only more annoying. Don’t bother grabbing this guy, because another one will hit you while you are hitting it. First appearance in Twilight Falls. Elite in Twilight Falls. SHIELDED ENEMY A skeleton-looking guy with a sword and a shield. Use lightning to break the shield, then just hit him. In order to grab him, he must be knocked into the air. Look out for his attack where he begins launching many small crystals at you (dodge roll away and wait for him to stop). First appearance in Twilight Falls. Elite in Floating Islands. LARGE FLYING ENEMY A serpent-looking flying enemy. Nothing special, just more health. Look out for his attack where he launches a bunch of sonic waves at you (just keep rolling). First appearance in Valley of Avalar. Elite in Floating Islands. AXEMAN Another skeleton guy, this time with no shield and a big axe. Same health as a shielded enemy. Can be disarmed. Look out for his attack where he recoils for a second, because he will jump at you with his axe and it can hit you in the air (dodge roll). Needs to be knocked into the air to be grabbed. First appearance in Valley of Avalar. Elite in Valley of Avalar. GHOST These are the ghosts of the apes you fought in New Beginning and Eternal Night, punished by Malefor for not being truly loyal. They are not very hard to kill, but there are always a LOT of them. Best way to kill these is grab and spin to kill a bunch at the same time. First appearance in Valley of Avalar. No elite. CROSSBOWMAN Tall guy with a ranged attack. Very annoying because he stands back and can jump away from you if you get close. Look out for his attack where he jumps into the air and fires a bunch of electric balls at you (dodge roll). First appearance in Dragon City. Elite in The Dam. LARGE UNSHIELDED ENEMY Big huge buff guy. Lots of health, lots of damage. Usually comes with few or no other enemies. Look out when he twists away from you because he is about to come spinning along the ground at you (as always, dodge roll). First appearance in Dragon City. Elite in Ruins of Warfang. LARGE SHIELDED ENEMY Big guy with a mace and a shield (lightning breaks the shield). Can be disarmed with lightning. Pretty much, dodge roll away from every attack that he does. First appearance in The Dam. Elite in Burned Lands. CHAIN LOCKS These only appear in the Floating Islands and are more of a hindrance than an enemy. They fire out small things everywhere and if you are close enough to one when it activates, it grabs the chain between you and the other player, preventing you from going a certain distance away. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /------------\ | GENERAL HELP | \------------/ This section is for the special things in the game like shadow doors and braziers. In this section, I will also explain the layout of the elite enemy help and interactible cutscenes. LEVERS/WHEELS/CHESTS These are exactly what they say. To open them, both players (sometimes only one for certain levers) must go up to them and press circle to grab on. Then, both players must press square like crazy to pull up or down, turn, or open the object. ADAMANTINE ORBS The orbs are small glowing balls found around the world. They are used to hold down switches, but they are very heavy, limiting your flight and only allowing you to fly a small distance above the ground. To pick them up, walk over to them and press circle, and to drop them, do any kind of attacking (melee or magic). VINES These are solid walls of vines that block your path. To destroy them, simply shoot them with Spyro's fire or Cynder's poison. SHADOW DOORS These are doors that you can see through but can't open. What you need to do to open these doors is use Cynder's cloak of shadows to go under the curved thing at the bottom of the door. From there, there should be a lever in the room somewhere. BRAZIERS These are the bins that have dragon heads on either side of them. To use these, simply use Spyro's fire breath on them until they explode into flames. HORNS These look like giant French horns (one of these is in the first level). To use them, simply use Cynder's wind breath until something happens. ROCK WALLS These are gigantic walls or floors of rock that are impassible. To break them, simply ram or swing into them with Spyro's earth boulder. TUNING FORKS These are metal objects coming out of the ground that react to sound and operate something when they spin. To spin them, shoot Cynder's fear at them. LIGHTNING SYMBOLS These are small indentions in the walls with decorations around them. To use them, shoot Spyro's lightning at them until they are full (you will stop shooting automatically once they are). ELITE ENEMY GUIDE As I will explain later, there are eight elite enemies throughout the world. In the collectibles guide, I have descriptions of each enemy. First, I will tell you where they are. Then, I tell you what they are the elite of and what their weakness is. Elite enemies have an impenetrable shield when you first attack them. Their weakness is what element will break this shield. However, once their shield is broken, the element does not do any more damage than it would normally. Then, I will tell you what attacks to watch out for and specifically avoid. After that, I will tell you the best strategy to use against them. Finally, I will tell you if there are any nearby gems to keep you alive. INTERACTIBLE CUTSCENES Many times through the game, there will be a cutscene where you have to press certain button or button combination to proceed. These are used many times during the actual face-to-face bosses and at other random times throughout the game. If you do not react fast enough, or if you hit the wrong button, you will fail at the cutscene and either die, or, if it's a boss, you will be sent back to the beginning of that section and the boss will have as much health as he did then. To pass at the interactible cutscene, simply press the correct button indicated fast enough at the right time. Sometimes the button will only have to be pressed by one character or it might have to be pressed multiple times. These will be indicated if they are present. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- | | |---- /---- | | ----- |--\ |---- | | | | / | | | | \ | | |-----| |-- | --- | | | | | |-- | | | | \ / \ / | | / | | | | |---- \--/ --- ----- |--/ |---- This is a full guide for the entire game. All directions are relative to the position that the camera is. This guide also shows where to get all of the special collectibles. This section is for someone who is stuck in general in the actual game. **PLEASE NOTICE: For those of you who do not want the story ruined, I vowed to a friend not to have any spoilers. If there is a cutscene, I simply put *cutscene* but do not tell anything that happens in it.** CATACOMBS --------- Armor: None Health Gems: 1 Magic Gems: 1 Spirit Gems: 10 Elite Enemies: 1 ---------------- *cutscene* You start out in a circular arena magically chained to a staple in the middle. Kill all of the enemies, and you will see a bridge collapse. More enemies will show up, so kill all of them. A gigantic monster will show up in the arena and start smashing the ground. Go up to the staple in the middle and pull it out of the ground. Next, go up to the golem and start hitting his hand. He has two attacks at this point: he will either hit the ground where his hand is or hit there and then swing and hit the other side of the arena (the swing will hit you if you are flying). Just keep hitting his hand and he will eventually pull it back, releasing gems to restore your health and give you a little bit of experience. At this point, dodge roll because he is about to hit right where you are standing, and then he will hit the other front corner, and in the middle at the back. Repeat this three times. *cutscene* After this cutscene, you end up in a hallway. Follow this hallway to the right and jump/fly along the platforms here. INTERACTIBLE CUTSCENE --> once you get to the last platform, all you do is once the golem tears away the platform you are standing on, press X to jump back to it. The monster then smashes you through a hole in the wall into another hallway. There is a save point nearby if you need to save. Follow the hallway farther through to reach a platform with a green gem in the middle. *cutscene* After the cutscene, break the gem. The gem will respawn after time. You now have your elemental attacks. Once either player has full mana, enemies will show up. It is four waves of many small enemies. Kill all of them, then fly up the revealed staircase to some vines. Use either Spyro's fire or Cynder's poison to break these vines, go through, and break the blue spirit crystal(1). From here, go back to the wall on the right of the entrance and pull the lever here. Go back to the left of where the spirit crystal was and pick up the orb here. Go up all of the platforms to the right until you get to another wide area. Use Spyro's lightning breath on the symbol on the right wall. This extends a platform higher up. Climb the platforms to the right, turn around, jump across the platforms to the other wall, and drop the orb. Fly towards the camera to a platform with a special health gem(1). Fly back to where you dropped the orb, pick it up, and fly across the higher platforms to the right. Drop the orb on the switch to open the door, and Spyro and Cynder will automatically go through it. Turn to the right and fall of the edge here to a spirit gem(2). Turn away from the door and follow these platforms on the side of the wall to get to a special magic gem(1). Fly back up to the main area and fly to the back corner and up on top of the platform to get a spirit gem(3). Go over to the lever on the side of the lake and pull it down to turn the pillar. Fly back to the pillar near the door and climb the vines. Fly to the pillar that you turned and climb the vines on the side. The camera will turn to show you another pillar. Fly to this and climb the vines on the side of it. Fly over the platform above the previous pillar and to the pillar against the wall. Break the spirit gem here(4). Turn to the pillar in the corner and fly to it, using the vines to climb up the side, and break the spirit gem here(5). Fly along the wall to the right. The golem shows up again and breaks the pillar that you used to get here. Use the vines to the right (or just fly) across to another platform, use the vines here to go up to the platform above, and use the vines to the left to go all the way to the left to another spirit gem(6). Use the same vines to go back across to the right to another platform. INTERACTIBLE CUTSCENE --> once you get on this platform, the golem will swing at you. Press X to dodge the punch, and the golem will get his hand stuck in the wall. *cutscene* Destroy the dark crystal in the golem's severed hand and the entire hand will explode. Continue onward to the platform that Hunter was on and get the spirit gem here(7). Fly back down to the lake and go to the area where the golem was standing to find a spirit gem(8) and another one on the other side of the lake (9). Go to the far side of the lake on the other side of the waterfall to fight your first elite enemy. This is the elite of a small enemy and his weakness is always shadow. Try to stay close to this guy or else he'll shoot a lightning bolt at you that does half of your starting max health. The best strategy for him is to hit him until you see him spinning around in one spot, then grab him, jump, and keep pressing triangle. After killing him, fly back up to where you were before you jumped down and continue down the path. Once you get to a ledge, drop straight down and get the spirit gem here(10). Continue down the path to an area with a suspended horn. Go over to the wall near the staircase and begin to turn the wheel here. As you do, many small enemies will jump out of the ground. Kill them, and then two more waves will appear. After you kill them, continue turning the wheel to lower the horn. Use the horn to open the door. INTERACTIBLE CUTSCENE --> once the door is open, the golem will reappear and grab Cynder. The character playing Spyro must repeatedly press square to use the chain and pull Cynder out of the golem's hand. *cutscene* END OF LEVEL ------------ ------------ TWILIGHT FALLS -------------- Armor: 2 Health Gems: 1 Magic Gems: 2 Spirit Gems: 7 Elite Enemies: 1 ---------------- You start out flying through a cave. Fly all the way through the cave until you get out, then start trying to go to the right. When it lets you, drop down to find a spirit gem next to the river(1). Fly down to the bottom of the waterfall and go to the left right in front of it to find a spirit gem(2). Fly forward down the river to find a locked save point. Kill all of the enemies that appear to unlock it and make it available for use. There is also a spirit gem next to the save point(3). Fly across the river and kill the enemies here. Continue down the path to find a vine wall on the right. Kill them and follow this small path to find a spirit gem(4). Fly back out of the path and across the river. Enemies will attack you once you get here. They are two waves of small flying enemies followed by a small shielded enemy (tip for the shield: lightning will break it along with anyone's shield, even the large enemies' shields). After you kill them, a spirit gem will come out of the ground(5) and you will be able to push over the log. Before you do, go away from the river from the battlefield and to the right, kill the vines here, and follow this path to get an armor piece. This is Spyro's offensive tail piece, which gives him increased attack speed. From here, leave the small path and go to the opposite side. There is a special green gem here surrounded by normal green and red gems(1). continue this way to find a spirit gem between two rock outcroppings against the wall(6). Fly up on top of the outcroppings and into the cave here to find a special magic gem(2). Fall off of this ledge and go into the wind tunnel to get to the elite enemy. He is the elite of the small flying enemies in this level. His weakness is always earth. The best strategy for him is simply keep grabbing him, jumping, and pressing triangle. There are plenty of gems nearby if you are in trouble. After you kill him, open the chest on the edge of the cliff to get an armor piece(2). This is Cynder's defensive bracers, which give her regenerating health. Go back to the previous battlefield and push over the log to get to the other side of the river. Climb up the vines on the cliff and swing over to the right to get a special health gem(1). Swing back over to the left and get the other person on the vines here. Swing the other player to the vines up above and climb onto the cliff. To the right of Hunter is another spirit gem(7). Go up to Hunter and press circle to end the level. *cutscene* END OF LEVEL ------------ ------------ VALLEY OF AVALAR ---------------- Armor: 4 Health Gems: 3 Magic Gems: 3 Spirit Gems: 19 Elite Enemies: 1 ---------------- You start this level defending the village of the cheetahs. There are many houses that you must defend before the enemies destroy them. The enemies are two waves of small flying enemies, one wave of serpent dragons, and one mixed wave. Kill all of these before they destroy all of the houses. *cutscene* Now you are flying freely through the actual valley looking for a lost warrior named Meadow who disappeared before the battle. Before you do this, though, there are many things to collect in the valley. To begin, facing away from the village, go to the wall on the right of the village to find a spirit gem(1). There is a tree with a special health gem behind it across the river from the village(1). Continue down the river to the left to find some trees on the left side of the river with a spirit gem behind them(2). Continue farther down the river, but do not go into the cave in the cliff. Instead, go to the left of the cave and climb the vines here. In this area, there is a spirit gem at the back (3) and an armor piece to the left(1). This is Cynder's offensive bracers, which give her regenerating mana. Leave this area and begin down the valley on the right side. Climb the vines on the cliff to get to an elite enemy. This is the elite version of the axeman enemy. His weakness is either lightning or fear (thanks to Vermillion). Try not to go too far away from him or he will jump at you and slash, doing a lot of damage. The best strategy for this guy is simply stay near him and hit him and dodge roll away when he slashes. If you are close to him, don't worry when he does the jump slash because it will miss. Also, if you see him start to block, dodge roll away. Also in case you run out, there is a regenerating normal green gem nearby. There is a spirit gem at the back of the battlefield(4) and a path to a special health gem behind it(2). Leave the platform and continue down the valley in the same direction that you came. After a small distance, there will be a platform a small distance out from the wall with a spirit gem on it(5). Fly towards the middle of the valley from this platform to get to another platform with another spirit gem(6) and a special magic gem(1). Fly back to the previous platform, but this time on the ground next to the river to find a spirit gem(7). Continue down the valley to find another spirit gem back in the corner(8). Follow the wall to a platform and climb up some vines to get to a cave with another armor piece(2). This is Spyro's defensive helmet, which gives him increased defense. Continue down the valley past the waterfall to find another spirit gem behind some trees(9). Keep going down the valley to find a path to a locked gate. Do not go into this path, but go around it instead to find a platform with another spirit gem(10). Continue through the valley and look on your right as you do. There will be a small path through the trees to a spirit gem(11). Continue all the way to the end of the valley to find another spirit gem to the right side of the river(12). Kill all of the enemies here to unlock the save point. After that, begin going up the valley on the other side. You will find a vine climbing area that is currently useless after a short distance. Around the far corner of this is a small area behind some trees. Go into this and away from the river to find a normal magic gem, and go to the right of this to find a spirit gem(13). Continue out the other side of this area to find another spirit gem(14). After that, start back up the valley on the other side. There will be a spot where the river breaks off to the right. Follow this small tributary to find a spirit gem on the right side(15) and another on an elevated platform on the left(16). Go back to the main river and push over the log here (you can kill the enemies if you want to, but it is not required). From here, continue down the valley to find another spirit gem behind a mountain next to the village(17). Now to get back to the storyline. Go down the river to the cave mentioned earlier. This time go into the cave and to the very end. Once there, you get ambushed before you can save Meadow. It starts off with one axeman, then there are two axemen with some small flyers that have a limited number of reinforcements that come in when one of them dies. *cutscene* After the cutscene, the wall holding Meadow explodes, revealing a piece of armor(3). It is Cynder's defensive tail piece, which wounds all attacking enemies. Now you are looking for a sign on the wall to find a Hermit to get a key to open a door to get some weights to release a raft to get Meadow back to the village (I know, it’s a lot to remember). Go back to the spot where the river breaks off where you found spirit gems 15 and 16. The entrance to the Hermit's land is below the platform with spirit gem 16. Enter the area and go to the right along the river a short distance while looking to your left. You will see a cave in the left side of the valley. Go into this cave to find a spirit gem(18). Continue through this cave until you hit a wall, then turn to the left to find a special health gem(3). Exit the cave and go to the wall across from the original entrance to this area and climb the vines here. Continue through the upper levels of the valley until you reach a platform in a corner. Push over the log here to create a path to get back up in case you fall and also to reveal a set of vines to continue through the area. Do that and fall into the platform below. Some ape ghosts will come out and attack you. The easiest way to kill them is to grab one and start swinging him around. This will kill the enemy and all others around you due to their low health. Don't let them hit you because to make up for their low health, they do high damage. *cutscene* There is a spirit gem in the area where you fought the ghosts(19). After getting it, climb back up the vines to where you came from and wall run to the left to get to a special magic gem(2). Go back across the battlefield to a raised platform with a save point. Wall run to the right from this platform to the Hermit's house to find a piece of armor(4). This is Spyro's fury bracers, which give him increased fury power. From here, leave the Hermit's land and go to the path mentioned at spirit gem 10. Grab an orb and leave the path for the storage shed and continue straight in this direction over some small streams and around a bend. Climb up some vines here and along some upside-down vines to a switch. Drop the orb on the switch to open the gate to a special magic gem (3). Pick the orb back up and drop off the ledge. Fly along the river until you find a tilted dock leading up to the other side. Land on this and walk up to the shore. Follow the shore and cross the log you knocked over earlier. Go behind the trees to the previously useless vine climbing area. Climb along this to get to the other side of the ledge. Go over to the switches next to the raft and drop the orb on it. Repeat all of this to release the raft. Have one character grab on to the raft and the other fly down the river and pull the raft. After a distance, you will hit some fishing nets. Have the character on the raft jump off, go to the wheel near the nets, kill the enemies, and turn the wheel to retract the nets. Start pulling the raft again and you will hit some more nets. Do the same thing here that you did before, and pull the raft the rest of the way to Meadow's cave. *cutscene* After the cutscene you will appear in front of Hunter at the entrance to a tunnel. Go up to him and press circle to end the level. END OF LEVEL ------------ ------------ DRAGON CITY ----------- Armor: 3 Health Gems: 3 Magic Gems: 2 Spirit Gems: 9 Elite Enemies: None ------------------- *cutscene* You start out with a burning building right in front of you. There are some manweersmalls trapped inside, and you are trying to save them. Don't worry when they tell you to hurry, because the building only explodes into bigger flames once you get to certain points of saving it, not after time. Start out by going away from the building to the right (left if the camera is towards the building). Go to the left through a gate after going down this path. Start turning the wheel here, and some enemies will show up behind you, including a new form of enemy: the crossbowman (name explains it all). Kill the enemies and finish turning the wheel to fill the pool with water. The building will explode and the flames will become higher, but do not panic. Now you need to find a bucket. Go back to the burning building and go in the other direction from the way that you went earlier and through another gate. Follow this path to find a gate and with a light behind it and a lever beside it. Pull down the lever to reveal the bucket. The building will now explode again and the flames will get even higher, but again, do not panic. Have both characters grab a bucket and fly back to the pool. Fly over it to fill the bucket with water, switch characters, and do it with the other one. Fly over to the building to drop the bucket of water onto it. Switch characters and do the same with the other. Go back and grab another bucket, but you only have to do it with one character this time. Drop the bucket of water on the building, and the fire will go out. *cutscene* Now it's time to get extra stuff. First, fly up to the top of the previously burning building to find a spirit gem(1). Fly to the left to an elevated platform and light the brazier in the corner up here. Go through the shadow door to get an armor piece(1). This is Cynder's offensive tail piece, which gives her increased attack speed. Drop down off of this platform and go through the shadow door to get a special health gem(1). Go back to the area with the wheel and go to the far wall. Climb the vines here to get to a horn. Use the horn to lower a platform with a brazier. Light the brazier and go into the door near the entrance to this area to get a special magic gem(1). Go back to the area where you found the bucket and go to the opposite side from the entrance to find a spirit gem(2). Go up the nearby platforms and light the brazier up here. Now that you have lit all three, go down to where you found spirit gem 2 and go through the now open gate to get a special health gem(2). Go back up the stairs to find a spirit gem(3). Continue up the stairs to a small room with some gems and a lever. Pull the lever to close the door you entered by and open the door to go ahead. *cutscene* Now you are trying to defend the catapult that is destroying the siege towers attacking the Dragon City. Don't worry about the catapult getting hit too much. Once the catapult gets down to half health, the screen will get a strong red tint, and once this happens, go to the hole to the left of the catapult. This acts just like a lever or wheel. Press square repeatedly to repair the catapult once you are here. Anyway, back to the level. To begin, go to the catapult and begin killing the small enemies here. Once you have killed enough, the artillery mole will tell you to reload for him. To do this, go to the lever that is towards the camera from the catapult and pull it down. Now a siege tower has made it to the city and is shooting at the catapult. Go all the way to the left to find the square where the siege tower has landed. Do not worry about the enemies that are here because no matter how many you kill, more jump in through the tower. Instead, go to the tower itself and destroy the dark gem here to blow up the entire tower. Once the tower is destroyed, another tower will shoot at the catapult and knock the mole out of his seat, then continue firing at the catapult. Go to where the first tower was and towards the camera to find the mole. The mole will then begin moving. Keep an eye on the catapult's health because that siege tower is still shooting it. Four times while you are escorting the mole back, enemies will be dropped on your position and will begin attacking you. Kill them and then continue protecting the mole. Once he gets back to the catapult, he will tell you to reload for him and then he will destroy the siege tower. *cutscene* Another siege tower has landed, but to the right of the catapult this time. Go destroy it and then the mole will tell you to reload for him again. *cutscene* The catapult is now under attack from the small guys again. Go kill them for a while and then two siege towers will pop up, one in each of the previous spots, at the same time. Go destroy both of them, then the mole will tell you to reload for him one last time. *cutscene* Yippee! You get to fight your first big unshielded enemy! But before you do, there are collectibles to get. First, go all the way to the right from the catapult and towards the camera |
