Introduction =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ================================================================================ Hey everyone. This is my eight FAQ that I'm currently working on, Lord of the Rings : The Two Towers. After just watching the DVD a few days ago, it inspired me to play the game again. Thus leading me to write this FAQ which I hope will aid you through a very fun game. I will do my best to be descriptive but most importantly helpful, as I'm trying to write all the levels and secrets hopefully before the Thanksgiving weekend is over. (Note - This game was beaten on "Normal" Difficutly. If your difficulty is Easy most likely there are less enemies or they're more stupid. If you're on Hard difficulty then most likely there will be more enemies and they will be harder.) -Fantasyrealm ================================================================================ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 2. Story =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ================================================================================ (Note - these stories were taken from the instructions manual.) It began with the forging of the great rings. Three were given to the elves, wisest and fairest of all beings. Seven to the dwarf lords, great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls. Nine rings were gifted to the race of men who, above all else desire power. For within these rings was bound the strength and will to govern each race. But they were all of them, deceived, for another ring was made. In the land of Mordor, in the fires of Mount Doom, the dark Lord Sauron forged, in secret a master ring to control all others, and into this ring he poured his cruelty, malice and his will to dominate all life. ################### 2.1 The One Ring ################### The one ring, and innocent looking gold band, is by far the most dangerous object in the whole of Middle Earth. Put it on and the wearer becomes completely invisible. Using its powers of invisibility draws the attention of the dark lord Sauron who may dispatch sinister creatures to retrieve The One Ring. The One Ring has a strange and corruptive influence, causing greed and powerlust to many who are exposed to it. Possessing the one ring can prolong the life of its keeper but corruption from the one ring will eventually transform a normal hobbit into a selfish, hideous monster. The one ring was forged thousands of years ago by Sauron in the fires of Mount Doom. He was close to using The One Ring's full powers to dominate Middle-earth when it was cut from his hand in battle. Sauron has been trying to recapture the one ring ever since losing it, and if he does, Middle Earth will be plunged into darkness and sorrow. To prevent Sauron from possessing The One Ring, it must be destroyed forever, and this can only be accomplished by throwing it back into the fiery chasm of Mount Doom. Frodo shows remarkable resistance to the ring's evil influence so he volunteers to carry it on the perilous journey to Mount Doom. ################### 2.2 Middle-Earth ################### Middle-earth is, by and large, a pleasant place. Hobbits, Men, Elvrs, and Dwarves live in peace with one another despite their obvious cultural differences. Lately, however, there has been signs of darkness rising throughout the land. Hobbits inhabit an idyllic agricultural valley called the Shire, where they live in underground houses and have little to worry about besides nosy family members. Hobbits are very small, with big hairy feet, and they have never been known for their courage or adventurous natures. Frodo's improbable journey shows that hobbits can be the bravest and boldest of all creatures. The Men of Middle-earth are heroic but not entirely trustworthy. They are known to be selfish and have difficulty controling their desires. Even the beloved wizard Gandalf is afraid to handle The One Ring for fear of its corruptive powers. Still, Aragorn shows himself to be the best men in terms of bravery, dedication, and valor in battle. Elves are gentle, graceful creatures that live in harmony with nature. They are immortal unless killed in battle, and they conduct themselves with the wisdom and calm of the millennia they have lived. Legolas is a prince of the Elves, possessing keen eyesight, and remarkable bravery and skill with a bow. Dwarves are short, strong and often grumpy creatures that excel in underground endeavors like tunelling and mining for jewels and precious metals. Their prickly dipositions can often mask the deep bonds that they develop with relatvis and friends. Gimli is a proud dwarf, and he wields his axe with skill and might that strike fear in the heart of much larger enemies. ################### 2.3 The Fellowship ################### Gandlaf discovers the true nature of the magical ring Frodo possesses and urges him to leave the Shire. Learning of Sauron's effots to recover The One Ring, Frodo quickly escaped the Shire, dodged numerous Ringwraiths, and made his way toward the Elven stronghold of Rivendell. Here the great leader of Middle- earth discussed the problems with The One Ring and Sauron's recent activities. It was agreed that The One Ring must be taken to Mount Doom to be destroyed. After some debate (and an energetic but fruitless attempt by Gimli to destroy The One Ring with his axe) it was decided that Frodo would bear the burden of The One Ring. Several agred to accompany and protect him, including Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Boromir, Sam, Merry, and Pippin. Together they formed the Fellowship of the Ring, and set off toward Mount Doom on their epic adventure. ================================================================================ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 3. Controls =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ================================================================================ D Pad -Move your character X -A quick attack. Weak, but it's your best friend when you gotta hit someone quick. O -Kick someone. Does minimal damaage, but it isn't meant for an attack. It can be used in conjunction with other attacks (Kick the enemy down, then do the finishing blow). You can also use it when you're face to face with more than one enemy. Kick one back and take on the other(s) . [] -A parry or block with your weapon. Rapaidly tap it and you can almost guarantee you won't get hit unless you get attacked from behind. It blocks all attacks from arrows to swords to axes. It is still unclear whether or not you can get hit when being attacked by two enemies in front of you while using a parry. /_\ -A fierce attack. You can press it and it will still to massive damage. Or you can press and hold and you will start "charging" up and release an extremly powerful and wide-ranged attack. You can tell when you're charging when your weapon is glowing green. Start -Pause the game and enter the options menu, or exit the game etc. Select -Nothing L1 -Take out your bow (for Aragorn and Legolas). To shoot your arrows, press X or Triangle. You can aim manually be moving the left analog stick. Be careful not to "push" because it is very sensitive. Instead just twiggle the analog stick. While your bow is "equipped" you cannot parry and you are very vulnerable to attack (close OR long range). L2 -Jump back. This is extremly useful when fighting trolls because you usually do a hit-and-run attack. (Ex. Run up and do a quick attack, then JUMP BACK before they slam their hammer onto you.) Or you can use it on normal enemies but it really isn't needed and I doubt even you would use it. (Most of the time you're too busy trying to hack away at the orcs then just do a stupid "jump back"). R1 -Alternate control for the parry. R2 -This is the finishing blow and it looks cool too. Approach a knocked down enemy (NOT DEAD!!!) and press R2. You character will do a little finnese with their weapon and shove it (pointy edge down) into the enemy. There is controversy whether hitting which part of the enemies body will give you a better rating. (Ex. A sword/axe into the heart will give you an excellent while a sword in the foot will give you a fair.) R3 press -This is the alternate control for kicking or knocking back. R3 up and down -When you move your right analog in a vertical (up then down) position you will do a FIERCE ATTACK. In other words it is the alternate control for a fierce attack. R3 left and right-When you move your right analog in a horizontal (left then right) position you will do a SPEED ATTACK. In other words it is the alternate control for a speed attack. ================================================================================ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 4. Kill Ratings =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ================================================================================ In this game are "kill ratings". As the name implies, the game RATES how well you killed an enemy. The higher the rating is, the more points you'll recieve for buying upgrades. You can get one rating every time you kill one enemy. There are four ratings listed from the best to worst: -Perfect -Excellent -Good -Fair Perfect - The only way to get a Perfect is to fill up your skill meter. You can fill up your skill meter when you kill lots of enemies in a short period of time (if you kill only one enemy, and for a period you didn't kill any additional enemies, the skill meter points you recieved from killing that enemy will slowly disentegrate). You must also not get hit by attacks (basically telling you to parry more often) or the skill meter will go down. After managing to fill up the skill meter, all your attacks will be slightly stronger and each time you kill an enemy you get more experience points than normal. Note that you only have ten seconds of this "power". Excellent - This is recieved when you land a good hit (to the head or chest as opposed to the foot) when killing an enemy. Good - Not the best hit on an enemy but not that bad either. Fair - The worst rating you can get and this also earns you the least amount of experience points. Though is still very common to get this rating. ================================================================================ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 5. Character Ratings =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ================================================================================ ######################## How to use this rubric: ######################## Health : How much health and how many hits you can take before you go down. Speed : You fast you move. Strength : How many hits it takes you to take down an enemy. R. A. : (Ranged Attacks) How skilled you are at killing enemies from afar. Range : How far your character can attack with their own primary weapon. Overall : The overall rating. I will rate each of the categories out of 10. (Ex. 10 is the best and 1 is the worst.) ######### Aragorn ######### Aragorn is the most balanced player, therefore he may be the easiest to use for beginner's. Health : 8 Speed : 8 Strength : 7.5 R. A. : 7.5 Range : 7.5 Overall : 8 ######### Legolas ######### Legolas is very good a ranged attacks and is very fast. He is above above average for everything else. He is the best character to use after you have already beat the game once. Health : 7 Speed : 10 Strength : 7 R. A. : 10 Range : 7.5 Overall : 8.5 ######### Gimli ######### He is the worst player to use in my opinion. No, it's not that his face looks like a cig butt that makes me hate him. It's his abilities! He may be the strongest but most of the missions require speed which he lacks, especially when you need to rescue "people in need". Health : 10 Speed : 4 Strength : 10 R. A. : 3.5 Range : 5 Overall : 5.5 ================================================================================ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 6. Character Descriptions =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ================================================================================ (Note - the descriptions were taken from the manual.) ================================================================================ 6.1 Forces of Good ================================================================================ The future of Middle-Earth is in the hands of a few brave adventurers who have chosen to help Frodo destroy The One Ring. Each is a credit to his or her race, and if they are succesful they can return to their peoples to the peaceful lives the once knew. (I will put an asterick beside each of the playable character. Though there is one character to unlock that's not shown below...) #################### * Aragorn #################### Men are weak, or at least this is the commonly held belief in Middle-earth. Three thousand years ago, Isildur, KIng of the Men of Gondor, gained great renown when he cut The One Ring from the hand of Sauron, ending his villainous reign. Soon after, however, he chose not to destroy The One Ring when he had the chance to cast it into the fires of Mount Doom, and thus Men are known to be weak in character and not entirely trustworthy. Aragorn can change all of that. He is a ranger, a strong man skilled in the use of many weapons including swords. Aragorn is trained to survive in every situation. Many know him as Strider, but few are aware of his true identity as son of Arathorn and heir to Isildur's throne. He is the rightful king of Gondor, and a force to be reckoned with. #################### * Legolas #################### Legolas is a noble Elven prince, deadly accurate with his Elven bow and knowledgeable in wilderness lore. Because he is an elf, Legolas has exceptional sight and hearing, and although he will never die of old age, he can be hurt or killed in battle. Legolas is kind and graceful, and he has a deep love for the peaceful side of nature. He and his valuable bow attack are great assets to the Fellowship. #################### * Gimli #################### Gimli is a stubborn dwarf who makes up for his lack of height and grace with great strength, bravery, and tenacity. Gimli fears nothing when he has his trusty axe in hand, and his temper makes him formidable when angry. His gruff disposition keeps him from making friends easily, but as a member of the Fellowship he is a tough and loyal ally. Gimli especially dislikes elves, however during his adventures with the Fellowship he develops an unlikely friendship with Legolas. Gimli is very proud of his heritage, and looks forward to seeing his cousin Balin in the Mines of Moria. #################### Frodo #################### Frodo is the Ringbearer, a brave hobbit whose cleverness keeps him alive in the face of tremendous danger. His adventurous uncle Bilbo left him The One Ring, along with the troubles that accompany it. However, Frodo shows great resistance to the sinister powers of The One Ring and has volunteered to take it to Mount Doom and destroy it forever for the good of Middle-earth. There could not be a more difficult task. #################### Gandalf #################### Gandalf the Grey is known and respected throughout Middle-earth as a great conjurer and a genuinely wise man. He is not young, but he can use staffs and swords skillfully in combat. Nevertheless, Gandalf's true strength lies in his vast repertoire of magic spells and abilities. He is the only character capable of using magic and he uses it well. Gandalf serves as a father figure to Frodo providing leadership and protection to the young Hobbit. He would carry The One Ring himself, but his knowledge of magic is too dangerous to expose to the corruptive powers of The One Ring. ================================================================================ 6.2 Forces of Evil ================================================================================ #################### Cave Troll #################### Big, slow-witted, and dangerous, the cave troll is an awkward brute that might not be taken seriously if it weren't so horrifying. Its strength is legendary, its speed deceptively fast, and its thick hide and strong constitution make fighting one an epic event. Thankfully, its decision-making skills are lacking, and Cave Trolls despise direct sunlight. #################### Orcs #################### The footsoldiers of Sauron's evil forces, Orcs can be found throughout Middle-earth. Although mutated from Elves, Orcs are corrupted forms that stand just over five feet tall. Taking their strength and determination for less than full-size can be a deadly mistake, however especially when multiple Orcs are involved in battle. Capable of melee attacks as well as ranged attacks with bows, Orcs have no obvious weaknesses. #################### Lurtz #################### At Amon Hen, the Fellowship fights to protect Frodo from the Urak-Hai. Lurtz, their leader, is bigger and more fierce than the rest of his army, and slaying him will prove no easy task. #################### Ringwraiths (Nazgul) #################### The nine Dark Riders were once great kings, hellishly corrupted to the point of no return. They fell victim to Sauron when he gifted them rings of power, which slowly turned them to wraiths. They are now completely under the Dark Lord's control and he dispatches them throughout Middle-earth in attempts to recover The One Ring. They appear in hooded black robes, usually when the Eye of Sauron is fully fixed upon The One Ring's wearer. #################### Saruman The White #################### Once a trusted friend and advisor to Gandalf, Saruman betrayed all he once stood for to join the sinister cause of the Dark Lord Sauron. His powerful magic inspires fear in all those who oppose him, and his fortress in Isengard is home to a vast army of his own foul creation: the Urak-Hai. One cannot hope to overpower Saruman, for merely surviving any confrontation with this brilliant wizard is considered a true victory. #################### Sauron #################### The Dark Lord himself has not been physically present on Middle-earth for some time. In fact, it was over 3,000 years ago that Isildur cut The One Ring from Sauron's hand, ending his last evil reign. Today, however, Sauron grows more powerful with every passing minute. His vile armies are spreading throughout Middle-earth in an ever-expanding search for The One Ring. If he gets it, Middle-earth will be plunged into an age of unimaginable terror and violence, and Sauron will take physical form once again. #################### Uruk-Hai #################### Saruman has succeeded in crossbreeding Men and Orcs. The result is an army of stronger, faster Orcs that do not weaken in sunlight. They are capable of melee attacks, ranger attacks with bows, and pike attacks. Genetic enhancement makes the Urak-Hai larger, stronger, and far more dangerous than their standard Orc counterparts. #################### Wargs #################### The great Wargs are a terrifying breed of huge wolf-like carnivores, driven by a hunger for blood and predatory intelligence. Saruman recruits Wargs, and Orcs skilling in riding them, in his campaign to crush the nation of Rohan. Worked into a killing frenzy by the murderous Orcs, the Wargs fall upon ruined Rohan refugees as they flee their burning homes. #################### The Watcher #################### The Mines of Moria rarely sees visitors, and the Watcher is one of the main reasons why. This multi-tentacled behemoth waits patiently for prey just outside the entrance to the mines, and very rarely does a man-sized meal escape its writhing grasp. ================================================================================ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 7. Walkthrough =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ================================================================================ Hah! Finally, the walkthrough. For each mission, I will only make a walkthrough on one character which I think is the best for that mission. If you look carefully you'll see I don't even have Gimli in here! Not that I hate him... I will rate each mission from 1-10. 1 means extremly easy, 5 is moderate, and 10 is EXTREMLY hard. Taha! Have fun! (Note - F.C means "favored character". Which MEANS which character I think is best to use for the mission.) #################### 7.1 Prologue Difficulty - 1 #################### After a long and exhausting movie which you can't skip (ARGH!!!) you get to play as Isildur. (Check pg. 12 in the picture if you want to know who the "secret" character is! It's so secret it's in the instructions manual!) It is impossible to die here so take your time. Your men will shout commands and all you have to do is follow their orders (their your men though, aren't they?). The first thing you must do is parry because there are many enemies here and it can be finished earlier if you just parry for now. A cutscene will show and now you will learn the fierce attack. It can even kill an enemy with a shield in one fierce attack, which makes it very powerful. The only way to kill an enemy with the shield is to land two consecutive hits from the fierce attack (yes, it consists of two attacks in one) on the enemy. One destroys the shield and the other gets the enemy. Another cutscene will start and after that finishes you should already get a fair idea of the controls. Practice a little further and another cutscene will come on. Sauron gets surrounded by lots of men, but in one hit Sauron sends all the men around him in the air. Isildur only gets knocked down. He reaches for his father's sword and cuts Sauron's hand off (with the ring). Isildur has the chance to destroy The One Ring at Mount Doom but because of his thirst for power (Yes, Men on Middle-earth are easily tempted by power) he doesn't. #################### 7.2 Weathertop Difficulty - 2 #################### Ringwraiths will suddenly appear and you must protect Frodo the ringbearer. (No not a ringboy you see at weddings) The only way to actually hurt the Ringwraiths is to torch em. The only character you are allowed to use is Aragorn. You will see a camp-fire and quick-attack at the fire and your sword will catch on fire. Now approach the Ringwraiths and fierce attack them for major damage. They may have to take afew hits before going down. You can tell if you brought a Ringwraith down when they catch on fire and they start running around. After a cutscene, Frodo will get really freaked and use The Ring (not the movie!). You can tell the Ringwraiths can see him because if they aren't attacking you they are attacking Frodo. Frodo's life meter will appear at the top of the screen so make sure he keeps his health. Keep running back to the camp-fire for more of the fire if you get knocked down. (The fire goes out when you get knocked down.) Kill all the Ringwraiths and a cutscene will show Frodo being carried away. This mission may be hard for people who are still adjusting to the controls but other than that it is a fairly easy mission. And yes this is the first mission where you can actually die. #################### 7.3 Gates of Moria Difficulty - 3 F.C - Aragorn #################### Oh great. The whole Fellowship gets to stay back and you and Gimli are sent to "scout ahead". When actually "scouting ahead" is killing all the enemies on the path the Fellowship want to take. The funny thing is, after you kill the enemies and the boss (yes, there is a boss!) the Fellowship comes in and they take there time and walk to the entrance. What "Fellowship".Don't worry Gimli, you're not the one I hate. Sorry about that. Let's get on with the FAQ. Come down the hill and Gimli will start talking about Orcs in this area. Three Orcs will approach you so kill them with ease. The Orcs seem to love scaring you and just so happens that tehy pop out of a wall when you continue further down the path. A cutscene will start and Gimli charges to attack some Orcs when one slips behind him. You will shoot an arrow at the Orc, right in the head. (He seems a lot like Legolas here). Moving along, there will be three archer Orcs who are very annoying. Take them out. While this is happening some more Orcs will approach you with swords so be careful. The best thing to do here is concentrate on getting the Orcs with swords first. Keep parrying after all three arrows have bee shot at you (after archer Orcs shoot at you, it takes them a while to shoot again) and you will also be parrying the Orcs who are trying to get you with their swords/axes. Take the short moment and now fierce attack them. Parry again when the arrows come and repeat the process. You have to start walking near the shallow waters of a dark, swampy lake. Be careful here because some Orcs just pop out of the water (it scared the heck out of me the first time). Gimli will actually help you out in killing the enemies which is a good thing. A cutscene will appear and you will see that Gimli get's knocked out by tentacles. It's never a good thing when a friend get's knocked out. Boss battle!!! ==================== Boss Battle- The Watcher Difficulty - 3 ==================== This boss battle mainly consists of patterns. Block, attack, attack. The Watcher may sink into the water for a few seconds so I guess you can rest your tired hands during this battle. When it attacks you with it's tentacles just parry them. When it stops attacking and it's just waving it's tentacles in the air, slice one of them off. The Watcher's ugly head will surface the water. Jump back and take a free shot at the head. Repeat the process and voila! You beat your first boss! #################### 7.4 Balin's Tomb Difficulty - 3 F.C - Legolas #################### This is one of the funnest missions to play. Not only does it make you feel proud to shoot arrows at Orcs, it's fun! I'm using Legolas for numerous reasons: 1. This mission requires you to shoot lot's of arrows, which you will need to beat the boss or kill the enemies rushing in the entrance. 2. Who's the best at shooting arrows? Legolas of course! 3. Stop using Aragorn and try leveling Legolas, he's not that bad. Along with this mission, you can run to the back of the room and just start shooting arrows from there at the Orcs and Golbins that rush in. You can kill lots of them from just staying at the back. You may miss some of the enemies but don't panic. Switch to Legolas' primary weapon and take them on head-to-head. After taking out a number of enemies a cutscene will start showing a Cave Troll run in. There are two parts in the boss battle but don't worry, he isn't that hard. ==================== Boss Battle- Cave Troll Difficulty - 4 ==================== ========== Part 1 ========== This is when the Cave Troll is just running around freely. Somehow though, it feels like the Cave Troll is FOLLOWING you. It's true. Use the Fellowship (okay fine, they help sometimes) and the enemies block the Cave Troll from get |
