Using his starts, you should be able to get Medals and a Skeleton key for the first three levels. All I did this update was add in those startegies. Version 1.8: Thanks to everyone who submitted information about the 3rd (or first) P.O.W in the Singapore Sling mission. Added information by theneif on LOTS of info for different levels. Thanks mate. Worked on the bonuses section some more, and finally added in some descriptions about the multiplayer levels, like layou, where to find machineguns, and sniper spots. Version 1.7: Not much of an update here, just added in some more bonuses to the bonus section. Getting some help from Theneif for the locations of Film Cansiters and some of the hard bonus objectives. Version 1.6: Working on bonuses section. This section contains: Film Canister one locations, Film canister two loactions, Where to use the tools to get cheats, Multiplayer skins, where to find tools and also the Bonus objectives. It's great to print if you want to know everything about the level. Finally spell checked the document as well. Version 1.5: If my walkthrough would of been posted on the day that I submitted it, this guide would be 14 days old. Anyways, I have added in the locations of a few film canisters, from the good people off the GameFAQs message board. Re- formatted the guide a bit, and changed the walkthrough paragraphs to 8 lines instead of 4. Finally changed the Bonus objectives section to bonuses, which includes Film Canisters, Bonus Objectives and other things. Version 1.4: Added in some bonus objectives for "Midnight raid on Gudalcanal," "Pistol Pete Showdown", "Singapore Sling" and "A bridge on the river kwai. Just a small update. I have a lot of updating time now, because I have only got 1/2 a day of school left until February. Version 1.3: Walkthrough Complete!! That right, Today i did the walkthrough for Midnight Raid on Guadalcanal, Pistol Pete Showdown and also A Bridge on the River Kwai. Got to start walk on Film Canister guide. Re-done the table of contents and added little bits here and there. Started on the Multiplayer section. Did a lot of work today. Version 1.2: Added in two more Walkthrough levels, which were "Singapore Sling" and "In search of Yamashits's gold." Hope to start on the Film Canisters and Multiplayer soon. Walkthrough is now 66% complete. Also changed the Online Play section to multiplayer. Version 1.1: Took ages for the guide to get up on the site, due to GameFAQs not updating for a while. Added in four more Walkthrough levels, and a bonus objective. Version 1.0: Submitted guide to GameFAQs. Walkthrough hasn't been started, but most basics like Game Tips have been put down. Only weapon and character info has been put down at the moment, not full descriptions. Hope to do more on the guide soon. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TABLE OF CONTENTS (1) INTRODUCTION A. Table of Contents B. Information C. INTRODUCTION ======================================================================= INFORMATION Medal of honor: Rising Sun FAQ/Walkthrough AUTHOR: Aaron Baker VERSION: 1.8 EMAIL: ns_java_games(at)yahoo.com.au GUIDE INTRODUCTION I have always been a big fan of the Medal of Honor series, since I got the first Medal of Honor game back in about year 2001. The game was so fun, and was just about the best First Person shooter I had played on the playstation. It was so fun, and had great gameplay. Later, I picked up Underground, finished it, like it, of course and mid 2003 I got Medal of Honor Frontline. I didn't really think much of it, but was hoping for there to be a sequel, and guess what, there is! Medal of Honor: Rising sun. After a long wait (games come out in the USA before they do in Australia) I have got the game, and here is my guide on it. Hope you like it. STORY Medal of honor: Rising Sun is based on the war. ======================================================================= 2. CONTROLS ======================================================================= Getting straight into it here. Here are the controls for the game, well, at least the default controls. By pressing start in game, or going to the options menu. Here are the controls: By the way, the Default is MOH: Sharpshooter, which is listed here. DEFUALT CONTROLS R2 Reload Puts full amount of clip ammo in weapon R1 Fire Shoots bullet from weapon L2 Grenade Throw Grenade L1 Aim Zooms in a bit for better aiming Square Crouch Crawl Circle Change wep Selects next weapon in inventory Cross Action Perform an action, eg, open door Triangle Jump Leaps you up into the air Up Zoom in Zoom in on Sniper only Down Zoom out Zoom out on Sniper only Left analog Strafe/Move forward and backward Right analog Turn/Look up and down L3 Centre view Returns viewpoint to normal R3 Melee attack Hit enemy with weapon Start Pause game Get up options Select Call HQ Use radio to call for hints OPTIONS Invert aim when on, pressing up on the right analog stick will make you like down, pressing down will make you look up. Turn speed Move the bar down to make you turn slower, move it up, and when you press the right analog stick to the right, it will turn right very fast. Sensitivity How the analog stick reacts to what you press, for example, who fast you look when you press the analog stick. ======================================================================= 3. HEADS UP DISPLAY ======================================================================= Compass: Will show which was is North, which you may think it completely useless, but it also goes red when you have been hit, and it will show the direction of where the bullet hit you. Health Meter: This is on the outside of the compass, and shows the amount of health remaining. As you get shot, it will deplete, and once you are less than half health left, it will go red. Get health to bring it pack up. Grenades: Shows the amount of grenades left. I think the maximum amount of grenades you can have is 20, which is more than enough. Counter shows how many grenades you still have in your possesion. Press L2 to throw a grenade. Ammo in clip: Shows the total amount of ammo left in the clip. As you fire bullets, this will of course go down. Press the R2 button to reload to get a full clip in, although some weapons cannot be reloaded in the middle of the clip. Supply: Shows the total number of ammo left. This ammo will be loaded into the clip when you reload your weapon. It is always good to keep a good supply of ammo. ======================================================================= 5. HEALTH ======================================================================= Without health, you would be dead. If you are shot, you will lose some of your health. How much you lose will depend on what type of bullet you were hit by, for example, if a rocket hits you, it will do more damage than a pistol bullet. REGAINING Fortunately, there is ways that you can regain your health. Here they are: Food - Restores 10% of your health Medical Canteen - Restores 25% of your health Medical kit - Restores 50% of your health Field Surgeon pack - Restores 75% of your health HEALTH LEVELS 100% - Healthy You have not been hit, well you may of been hit but got a field surgeon pack. No need to worry 75% to 99% - Still okay Some damage has occurred, you may have been shot twice or something, and a medical canteen or food will easily fix this up for you, and you. 50% to 74% - Getting Worse More damage has been inflicted, still fine though, but don't try to get it below 50%. 25% to 49% - bad Health is now in red. You need to get a medical pack before going directly out into a gunfight, otherwise you can easily die. 1% to 24% - Nearly dead Quick, find some health or something, because you are about to die. Be careful on your travels. 0% - Dead Mission failed, because you are dead. Mission will restart, and you will have full health. ======================================================================= 6. California - the dirt mound at the ball field by the second sewer entrance - the dirt mound at the entrance to the tunnel under the hut - I forget where to use it on the Pistol Pete Showdown - the grill at the bottom of the stairs - the mound of dirt to the right of the burning aircraft - the mound of dirt in the area to the right of the blockade at the end of the first set of tracks - the odd colored locker in the flight crews quarters _______________________________________________________________________ ======================================================================= 7. GAME MODES ======================================================================= SINGLE PLAYER CAMPAIGN Play by yourself, fighting in the war as Joe Griffin. It's full screen, and you can play 9 levels. CO-OP CAMPAIGN I have never actually played this mode yet, because no one wants to play it with me. I assume that you play with someone else, in all the levels that you would in one player mode. MULTIPLAYER Play a deathmatch, with different variables, such as Friendly Fire on/off, Kill limit and Time limit. 4 people can play. ONLINE PLAY Yes, Rising Sun can be played online, but I have no idea how to set it up, and I don't want to play it online. ======================================================================= 8. OPTIONS ======================================================================= A quick section here, this just describes the variables in the options section. CONTROLLER LAYOUT Choose your button configuration, like which button does which action. You can choose between Preset configurations, or set custom configurations. CONTROLLER OPTIONS Just things like Invert Y and Turns speed. I think you know what the vibration is. If you have invert Y on, when you move the left analog stick up, it will move your view down. I like it on. HUD OPTIONS Hud = Heads Up Display, like your weapon, crosshair, ammo, etc. If crosshairs is on, then it means you will see a little aimer. If off, you don't. I don't know what HUD type does. AUDIO Select the volume of the music and also the sound effects, like bullets, and you can also select the sound format. DIFFICULTY On Easy, you are a Skilled Marksman. On Normal, players and enemies are evenly matched, and on hard mode, it is war! Your enemies are truly dangerous. New people should start on easy. PASSWORD Enter a password in the typewriter. You can use this for entering cheats, secrets that you find. See the cheats section for more information. ======================================================================= 9. GAME BASICS ======================================================================= MOVEMENT Most missions you have to move in, of course. Use the left analog stick to move, and the right to look. Some missions you cannot move in, like Pearl Harbour, when you are on the boat. ITEMS Items can help you on your way. They can be things like an ammo box, which will give you weapons and ammo of course, or something like a tank cog, or other secret items. TEAMMATES On your ay you will find teammates. These are your allies, and will fight with you, not against you. They will be trying to kill the enemy as well, although you will be doing the most work. You cannot kill them, which is good. Try to protect them. SECRETS in each level, there are film canisters that you can find. These are hidden in secret places, and you will need to look hard for them. When you find one, it will unlock a secret movie. SAVING In every level, there is on average about two or three phones. Approach the phones, and press the action button. Here you can save your game by selecting the slot, etc. Sometimes these phones are hidden, or on a different path to the main objective path. ======================================================================= 10. There is one box per mission with the exception of the Pearl Harbour mission. ======================================================================= 13. GAME TIPS ======================================================================= * Strafe a lot. Strafing is just like dodging bullets. If you are continually moving, they might still just hit you, but there is a less of a chance that the enemy will hit you. * Like above, circle strafe. Circle strafe is moving around an enemy, like going around in a circle, keeping the enemy in the middle, so you are aiming at them all the time, while strafing. * Conserve ammo. The enemies is Rising sun only take about 2-3 bullets to kill, so don't go wasting a whole round of twenty bullets on one enemy. Save your ammo. * Save the good weapons for last. For example, if you are on a very hard mission, start off by using the pistol, and when it gets to the end, then start using machineguns, etc. * Only get a health pack if you need it. For example, if you have taken one hit, and lost 5% health, as most hits do, then don't pick up a field surgeon pack that gives you 75% health. Leave it so that you can come back to it. * Sometimes you may find yourself lost, or not knowing what to do or where you should go. Listen for other allies, etc and they might give you some info. Listen carefully. Also, press select to get hints from HQ, this can help you out a lot. * Use the peek out method good. If you are facing a wall, and to your right is an opening, press the L1 button to aim, and then push the left analog stick to the right. You will peek out. Release the stick to go back to normal. * Reload when you can. In Rising Sun, reloading can take some time, like 3 seconds. In three seconds you can easily be shot a number of times. Never go into a battle with only afew bullets left, always reload when you can. There is nothing worse than being shot while reloading in a battle. This especially goes for the pistols. * About the above, the M1 Garand cannot be reloaded in the middle of a clip. They made it like this because this is how it was in the war. If you only have 1 or 2 bullets left, and you are going into battle, shoot them out and it will auto load. * Here is a little way to avoid recoil, from the machinegun. While shooting bullets from the machinegun, keep on pressing the "Centre View" button and there will be less recoil. Obviously it only works when enemies and stuff are in middle view. * If you want to get good accuracy, don't just rapidly fire all the time. Aim before you shoot, and make sure that your bullet will hit an enemy before you fire. Use the aim mode a lot, as well as the sniper aim when you have the Sniper Rifle. ======================================================================= 14. WALKTHROUGH ======================================================================= DAY OF INFAMY The starting of the game, and a great mission to just learn how to get down the basics of the game, like the controls and how to move. There are actually no soldiers at the start at the game, but you will find some planes near the end of the mission. Watch the opening movie, and you will see your allies running out the room. Run out of the room, and look to your right. Run forward, and you will see a guy ebing electrocuted. Go up to the cables, and look to your left. Go through the doorway. You will see a guy in here; follow him as he goes through another doorway into a storage area. He will most likely run faster than you, but you will still know where he is going. Run up the stairs, to see the guy again. Run and jump over the electric cables, like how it is demonstrated by the guy. A pole will fall, so duck under it and follow the guy. Keep going forward, to see an engineer. Help him with the hatch if you want a bonus objective. Run up the stairs on your left. Run to the left again, and a guy will say, "Over here, I've found the exit." Fire will break out. Run up, and you will be given a fire extinguisher. Aim it at the fire, and press the shoot button to use. Put out the fire, and run forward and put out the next one. Look at the door on your left. Aim the Fire Extinguisher at that fire, and put it out. Run in the room, to see the cook. Te cook will want your fire extinguisher. He will automatically grab it off you after awhile. One the cook sprays out the fire, a mission objective is complete. Run up to the phone, and press the action button to save your game. Once that is done, run out of this room, and go to the left. Keep moving forward, and you will come to a set of stairs. Go up the stairs, and a short cut-scene will kick in. Wait until Gunny gives you a gun (The Bowing Automatic Rifle.) After that, there is some ways you can take down the incoming planes. There is a automatic gun near where you are, another on the next floor, or you can just use your B.A.R. I say use the gun emplacements. Make sure you have your setting set right for invert axis, otherwise you will stuff this part up. It's all about aiming. Planes usually don't appear until the last second (well for me anyway) so just keep on firing at incoming planes, until it says that the USS California has been defended. _______________________________________________________________________ Medal Strat, by BothanSpy. Medal Requirements: Bounus Objectives - 2 Start out just running through the ship and once you find your guide follow him. There will be a guy shutting a door and he will yell something and run to the hatch. Help him close the hatch by running up to him and pressing the action button (default = X). Doing this will complete the 1st Secondary Objective. Once you get the fire extinguisher put out the huge flame in front of you. Just down the hall you will hear a man screaming that he is trapped. Put out the fire in the door way that leads to him. Inside this room you will find a man and another fire blocking off part of the room. Put out that fire and the 2nd Secondary Objective will be completed. There will also be a film canister in this room, but it is not required for getting the Medal. Leave this room and keep following the path that leads to the main deck. Once you reach the deck a short video will trigger. Once this is over, shoot your new found gun at one of the planes that is about to fly over you. Once those two planes have passed run strait for the gun mount on the railing. Start shooting the planes as they approach. Learning where the planes come from is a very useful tool. Don't continuously or that will significantly lower your accuracy (one of the requirements for getting a medal). Just keep shooting down the planes and the level will end after about a minute or two. If you did it right, you should get a Medal and the Skeleton Key for that level. _______________________________________________________________________ PEARL HARBOUR I can't really give you an exact walkthrough for this level, for the fact that you can move yourself, the boat is moving, and you are only doing the shooting. This reminds me kinda like the level from Underground where you are on a motorbike, only this is more intense, due to the realism of it. If you are not in the level for accuracy, then just hold your finger down on the shoot button for all of the level. Move your view using the right analog stick (presuming you have that configuration.) and shoot down any planes overhead. It will take afew bullets before planes are actually fully brought down. Just remember to try to shoot any plane before it shoots you. You cannot collect health in this mission, because you don't stop at all, and can't get out of the ship, so you need to preserve health. If you think you are going to die early, then just restart. There is no need to preserve ammo for this, because the machinegun turret that you are using has an unlimited supply. Also, you cannot save the game during this level, there is no save points. Of course, you can at the end of the level, though. Just remember to keep on shooting down those planes. There is one time where you can't shoot, and that is the part where the Arizona gets blown up, they want you to see that, so that's why you can't move your view or shoot at that time. This level, of course has the most amount of planes that fly overhead. Heres a little challenge; try to see how many planes you can shoot down in the level. It will say at the end of the level, on the stats screen. I think somewhere between 70 - 75 + planes shot down is the bonus objective. _______________________________________________________________________ Medal Strat By BothanSpy: Medal Requirements: Bonus Objectives - 2 All you need for this one is to complete both the Bonus Objectives. The Bonus Objectives are: Shoot Down 20 Planes and Shoot Down 75 Planes. 75 is pretty tough, but all you have to do is memorize plane locations and hope for a good run. You should have about 38-40 planes shot down by the time the Arizona blows up. From there you need to get 35 more planes. Tip: Don't stop shooting after the Nevada starts talking. Keeping shooting planes in the distance. That's about all the tips
