A man who formally introduced himself as "John Doe" and whent also by the nickname, "Jack". The operative assigned the codename "Naked Snake" during the historic operation "Virtuous Mission" reputedly cared little for the rappings of identity. Long before he would lead the US to victory in the Cold War, his chief concern in life was one of many disciplines he learned during his training under The Boss, the woman whose combat talents led tha Allies to victory in World War II, also known as the mother of today's Special Forces. The exact depths of the relationship between Naked Snake and The Boss remain unclear, but what is known is that they met ten years prior to Virtuous Mission and drifed apart perhaps five years after their meeting. Together they crated the martial arts-inspired fighting style knows as Close Quarters Combat, or CQC. A mixture of martial arts combined with handgun and knife techniques, CQC is a means of disarming and disabling an opponent in as few moves as possible. Naked Snake utilized these legendart skills during the failed Virtuous Mission and the successive Operation Snake Eater. Though the circumstances of how he was able to complete the mission remain unknown, he was subsequently awarded the title of "Big Boss" and went on to establish the Special Forces Unit FOXHound. In later years he would betray his country and President to obtain the stolen weapon Metal Gear in an attempt to establish the soldier-ruled regime of "Outer Heaven" in Zanzibar Land. many psychologists have attempted to puzzle together the roots of his demoralization and eventual treason, and some point to the vague events of Operation Snake Eater. Understanding this complex historic character may be more than most could hope for. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ZERO =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The Major assigned to run Virtuous Mission and Operation Snake Eater, both designed to aid Russion weapons development scientist and defector Doctor Sokolov escape from the clutches of the GRU. "Major Zero", as he came to be known, was the creator of the original FOX unit and a former member of the SAS. having failed to rescue Sokolov from Russian authorities during a previous mission that did not involve Naked Snake, the Major bore a heavy conscious and plunged ahead with Virtuous Mission. It may be due to his hasty preparations that Virtuous Mission failed and that The Boss defected to Russia. If he had prepared better, he might have known of The Boss' intentions before hiring her as a weapons and tactics consultant. When debriefed following the subsequent Operation Snake Eater, Major Zero remained unforthcoming as to the fulfillemtn of the mission and the involvement of the man later to be known as Big Boss. He would only agree that the operative codenamed Naked Snake was a major part of the operation, and that things would have gone terribly wrong without his involvement at the time. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- SOKOLOV =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- A Russian weapons research scientist and attempted defector, Sokolov was the subject of the rescue attempt entitled Virtuous Mission and the subsequent campaign called Operation Snake Eater. Due to his dissappearance during or after Snake Eater, many historians point out that he was likely assigned a new ientity. Sokolov is, after all, credited with the infamous Shagohad project, a precursor to today's Metal Gears. Though his reason for wanting to defect remains unclear, one can surmise that perhaps he became disillusioned about the nature of his work and wished to cease weapons production in light of the supposed lethality of the Shagohad. However, since the United States intended to utilize Sokolov in its own weapons research and development, what he hoped to gain by defecting could not be determined. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- EVA =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Thought to be a KGB spy working for Khrushchev, the spy working under the codename EVA rendezvoused with Naked Snake instead of the missing operative ADAM. It remains unclear whether Operation Snake Eater was largely successful due to her help or in spite of her rumored interference. The only man who may know the answer regarding her involvement is the main operative codenamed Naked Snake, later known as Big Boss. Therefore, the truth regarding the woman known as EVA is perhaps lost in history. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- THE BOSS =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Little is actually recored in any of the files regarding the woman known by the revered title, "The Boss". This is mainly due to the top secret, cloak and dagger nature of most of the missions in which she participated. What all of the files do state in resonance is that she was largely responsible for the victory of the Allies in World War II, and that she went on to become the creator and "mother" of the Special Forces. Yet for reasons entirely unknown to the US government, The Boss betrayed the country she had sever for over 20 years and two wars, defecting to the USSR during Virtuous Mission. She was blamed and accused of launching and detonating to "Davy Crockett" class portable nuclear warheads in Russian Territory. The reasons for her sudden and erratic behavior were unknown to all, save the other participants in Operation Snake Eater and her beloved hand-picked Cobra Unit, also known as the "Sons of The Boss". =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- OCELOT =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The commander of the Ocelot Unit that served the renegade Russian Colonel Volgin of the GRU was well known for his amazing learning and adaptive capabilities. Able to employ advanced combat skills within mere hours of seeing them in action, the Ocelot ommander was unmatched in his unit. For this reason, the GRU treated Ocelot as second in command to Volgin, despite presence of other higher-ranking officials within the specialized army. In his later life, he joined the unit FOXHound and became known as "Revolver Ocelot". Ocelot's actions indicate the possibility that he could be a double agent, alling his true loyalty and motivations into question. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- VOLGIN =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Colonel and commander of the Russian GRU, which led an uprising against Khrushchev in the early '60s, Volgin bore the codename "Thunderbolt", due to his reported ability to channed and control electric energy. Volgin built and presided over the imprnetrable fortress Groznyj Grad, named for Ivan Groznyj, or "Ivan the Terrible". The Shagohod weapons system was allegedly being developed inside his fortress when Dodtor Sokolov attempted to defect. Volgin often uttered the Japanese phrase "Kuwabara, Kuwabara" before or after the performing psychotic, vicious acts of cruelty. There is no exact translation in the English language for this phrase, but in Volgin's usage he most likely meant to say, "The horror..." perhaps promising death and destruction to his enemies. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- THE PAIN =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Cobra Unit hornet soldier "The Pain" was a master bee tamer and hornet specialist supposedly capable of commanding entire swarms of stinging hornets to do is bidding and attack his enemies. A former comrade of The Boss, The Pain was one of several fearsome Cobra Unit commandos involved in the events of Operation Snake Eater. The Pain ostensible developed his rare gift by allowing thousands of hornets to sting him for months at a time, until the hive came to believe that he was in fact another hornet himself. His intense willingness to suffer pain for his art enticed The Boss to recruit him for the Cobra Unit during the last world war. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- THE FEAR =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Cobra Unit spider soldier "The Fear" was appropriately named, due to his frightening appearance and abilities. The Fear dislocated limbs at will to enhance his strange ability to climb rough surfaces like a spider. The dislocation allowed The Fear to leap great distances and to crawl across the ground at lightning-fast speeds. A formidable wilderness hunter, The Fear preferred to use a crossbow gun to "sting" his opponents with toxic poitions extracted from the world's deadliest insects. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- THE END =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- A veteran of dozens of wars, The End spent most of his latter days in a kind of preventative hibernation, staving off his own natural death until he finally found a battle worthy of his life. A superior marksman and sniper, The End employed camouflage techniques that made him invisible even the brightest, most exposed arenas. His sole companion in life was a squawking parrot, which woke The End up just in time for battle. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- THE FURY =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- An astronaut on secret Soviet rocket messions, The Fury reportedly fought with all the anger and rage he felt regarding the warlike state of the world. Equepping a headvy spacesuit and the most powerful flamethrower ever made, The Fury would unleash his flames of wrath upon his enemies, consuming them in puriflying fires he wished would consume the whole world, wiping mankind's slate clean. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- THE SORROW =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- A former Cobra Unit spirit medium soldier, The Sorrow could evidently speak to dead men on the battlefield to determind enemy positions and armaments. His tap into the spirit world also probided him a means to see slightly into the future, and to read the minds of interrogation subjects. However, The Sorrow was reportedly killed years before Operation Snake Eater. Therefore, there is no way he could have been part of The Boss's defection and the GRU uprising... could he? ______________________________________________________________________________ 4] THE BASICS [0400] ______________________________________________________________________________ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- STAMINA =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Stamina is as important as health in this game. Stamina will deplete if you move using the Left analog, shimmy, climbing, attacking, etc. If Snake's stamina is low, aiming will be harder, for Snake starts shaking the gun. If you run out of Stamina, Snake's stomach will growl, possibly alerting any nearby enemies. Killing animals and taking food will help. Eat food in the survival viewer to regain stamina, helping Snake perform more activities. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- BACKPACK =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Snake can't hold every single weapon and item that he acquires in the game. In order to use a particular item or weapon on the battlefield, you must open your survival viewer and select "BACKPACK". From there, you can select weapons and items to your window. Back in the game, press R2 to view theaccessible weapons to use, or press L2 to use accessible items. You can only hold a certain amount of weapons and items in your arsenal, so you must choose wisely. At anytime you want to disable an item or weapon, just access your backpack and take it out. You can replace it with another weapon or item to use. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- CURING =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- After the prologue, Snake will be able to cure himself of inguries sustained in battle. Open the survival viewer and select "CURE". The screen will show injuries on Snake's body. You can use certain medicine for certain injuries. An example is a burn. You can use ointment and a bandage to completely heal a burn wound. For a gunshot wound, first you must extract the bullet with your knife, then use disinfectants, stitches, and bandages. If you find out that you don't have all of the medicinal items used to heal a wound, then your wound will only be somewhat cured. If a would is left without any type of medicinal care, then Snake's stamina will decrease more than usual. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- SAVING =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- I must admit, I didn't know how to save until Mission 3. If you don't explore enough with in-game menus and such, then you will have the same problem as I did. In order to save your game, you must press select and access your radio. From there, type in the frequency "140.96" to contact Para-Medic to save. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- CQC =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- CQC stands for close-quarters-combat, which proves to be very useful in this game. Some times, if you don't have any guns, this proves to be vey useful. If an enemy has spotted you, press O to unleash a 3-hit combo on your opponent, knocking him to the ground. If you aren't loticed by a guard, sneak up behind the enemy and press O when you are right behind him. You will grab the enemy by the throat. There are several techniques used once you've grabbed your opponent: Direct Throw (Left Analog + O) - You will slam the enemy to the ground, stunning him Interrogate (L3 + O) - You will interrogate the enemy, where they could possibly leak useful information out of fear Human Shield (Square) - Once the enemy is grabbed, press Square to use the enemy as a human shield Slit Throat (Hold O) - Snake will slit the enemy's throat, leaving a bloody body to be dealt with Neck Snap (Tap O) - Snake will start to choke the enemy, then proceeds to snap their neck =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- STEALTH =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Stealth is what this whole game is all about. Instead of normal shooter games where you wipe the field of enemies, you must be very strategic in this game. if an enemy is near, use the D-Pad to stalk him instead of the left analog stick, where you will make more noise. Crawling under grass and underbrush is very important for being undetected. Press X to crouch, then use the analog stick to crawl under platforms or through tall grass. In order to lose all hope of being detected, drag unconcious or dead bodies in unaccessible or hard-to-find places, such as dropping them off of a bridge or hiding them in tall grass. If an enemy spots a body of their comrade, they will be even more cautious than before. When Snake is up against a wall, he can knock on the wall by pressing O to attract nearby enemies to their unsuspecting doom. Sadistic, I know. I love it. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ENEMY STATS =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Certain icons appear over enemies head to represent their status: ? - Suspicious of something (might have seen something strange). Enemy proceeds to stare where he possibly saw you, then continues on his patrol ! (Blue) - May have heard a strange sound or seen a dead body. Enemy moves in to investigate. ! (Red) - Enemy spots Snake. The enemy will enter alert stage and tries to call for backup. *** - Unconcious. Either kill or avoid the guard before he wakes up. ZZZ - Asleep. Either kill or avoid the guard before he wakes up. Certain alert stages will occur if the enemies become suspicious of you. If one comes up, you have 99.99 seconds before the enemy resumes patrolling and loses all suspicion of anything: Alert Phase - When a guard spots Snake. Guards will come to reinforce each other. If you kill or tranquilize the guard who saw you, alert stage will turn off. Evasion Phase - Occurs when the alert phase timer expires. Enemies will have lost sight of Snake, but will resume the process of looking for him. Another timer will be set to 99.99 seconds once this phase starts. Caution Phase - This phase is triggered when the evastion phase ends, and another 99.99 second timer will start. Enemies patrol the area like normal, but are more alert and cautious. ______________________________________________________________________________ 5] WALKTHROUGH [0500] ______________________________________________________________________________ NOTE: The item placement, enemy patrol routes, and all that junk is based on the Normal difficulty * = Must defeat boss by depleting stamina with Mk22. That's the only way to receive these types of items. ============================================================================== 5.01] PROLOGUE [0501] ============================================================================== The opening scene to the game is not only long, but it's a nice cinema. Just remember that you can press and hold R1 when it appears onscreen to look through the eyes of the man you will be playing as, Snake. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- DREMUCHIJ SOUTH =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Items: Life Medicine Weapons: None Food: Russian False Mango, Russian Oyster Mushroom, Siberian Ink Cap, Giant Anaconda, Reticulated Python ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The first area of the game. Don't worry, there are no enemies here. After Snake is done talking with the Major on radio, get a feel for the game by walking around and crawling. Remember that the Major says that he always refers north as up, south as down, east as right, and west as left. I will be using the same references. Got it? Go east, then north once you reach the dead end. Pick up the box by walking over it. It's a life medicine. Slide down the hill, then press Triangle while next to the central tree with the ivy on it. You will climb it. Walk to the end of the branch, then press Triangle when you're under the backpack to swing down and get it. This is a good area to hunt for food, because there aren't any enemies. Look on the ground for snakes. They aren't hard to miss. Walk up to one and press Circle three times to kick the snake, killing it. Pick it up, and you can access the food in the Survival Viewer. You can use the Mk22 against it too, but there's no need to waste bullets, is there? Head north into the next area. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- DREMUCHIJ SWAMPLAND =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Items: Bug Juice Weapons: Grenade, Mk22 Ammo, Mk22 Suppressor Food: Indian Gavial, Hornet's Nest, Golova, Tree Frog, Magpie, Reticulated Python ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ For your second area, this place can be dangerous. There are numerous gavials scattered along the swamp, and they can hurt you. Use your Mk22 to tranquilize them from a distance. If you're brave (or stupid), you can kill the gavials with your knife, but I don't recommend it. Most of the area is covered in quicksand, so stay near the edges. Search the grass near the first animal for bug juice, then continue east in the grass to find grenades. Go north through the quicksand and proceed onto the island. Watch out for the two gavials. Aim up in the tree and shoot the hornet's nest. Head off of the island towards the west side of the swamp. There will be more gavials, so avoid them and collect the suppressor in the western corner of the swamp. Continue east through the quicksand until you reach the northern bank. Walk down the path, shoot the fruit from the trees, and continue to the next area. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- DREMUCHIJ NORTH =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Items: Bug Juice, Thermal Goggles Weapons: Grenade, Stun Grenades, Mk22 Ammo, Dragunov Sniper Rifle Food: Tree Frog, Golova, Sunda Whistling Thrush, Siberian Ink Cap, Green Tree Python ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ooh, guards! This is where you really can't run around anymore. First off, crawl in the crass in front of you. If you move around the camera a bit, you should see a guard coming straight ahead. Equip the Leaf Camouflage and wait until the guard is close enough for firing range. Now, I must admit, I was awful at this area, because I'm not used to not having crosshairs for games. So what I did is that if I wanted to aim for a guy's head, don't aim at his head, aim a little below. If you're a pro at MGS games, then just tranq him in the face. Unequip everything, and press Square to drag hiss unconcious body into the tall grass. Knife him to death, and get up, and hide behind trees until you see a fork in the road. When the right path is accessible, head right and up the hill. At the top, you will find the Dragunov Sniper Rifle. You can use it if you want, but it's very noisy, so guards can spot you easier if you use it. Head back down the hill, and crawl under the tree trunk to find bug juice. You can wait for the next enemy to come along. Crawl out of the other side of the trunk and into the tall grass. You can either tranq him or use some CQC, it's your choice. Either way, drag his body away from any guards' sight and kill him. You can pick him up and put him down so he drops ammo. It's a useful technique called "shaking". Head north, and tranq any guards in your way. Instead of going straight the whole time, head east once the path is open. Crouch and look around for any guards. If the coast is clear, make a mad dash eastwards and a little north until you find another tree trunk. Crawl in it and collect the thermal goggles. There should be another enemy in front of you, so tranq and knife him. If at any time, an enemy sees you, quickly tranq him and hide in the tree trunk before reinforcements see you. Once all the guards are eliminated, head to the western side and search the grass to find grenades. You can hunt for wildlife in the area, but if you're fine, then head north until you find a center pathway. Head up the path to the next area. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- DOLINOVODNO =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Items: Pentazemin Weapons: Mk22 Ammo, XM16E1 Food: Hornet's Nest, Siberian Ink Cap, Tree Frog, Yabloko Moloko ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ One little item found here can make the whole area easy as hell: the hornet's nest. Look down the ledge at the guard. Look above him. There should be a hornet's nest in the tree right above him. Shoot the nest, angering the hornets and attacking the guard. The guard runs across the bridge, and the hornets end up attacking all of the other gaurds, chasing them out of the area! For some strange reason, like, if you miss the nest and alert the guard, simply tranq and kill the lone guard, then snipe the two on the bridge. Bring the guard's unconcious body next to the other two on the bridge. Slice the ropes on either side of the bridge, and the bridge will slide, sliding the bodies right off of the bridge and into the river. That was easy, wasn't it? You'll probably slide with the bodies. If you fall to the edge, Snake will grab on the edge. Press Triangle to climb back onto the bridge. Across the bridge, collect the mushrooms on the base of the tree. Head west, then south down the small tunnel. You will come to the edge of the cliff. Shimmy across, and you'll end up in a small alcove under the bridge. Collect the XM16E1 and Pentazemin, then head back across and up the tunnel. Go west into the next area. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- RASSVET =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Items: Life Medicine, Mousetrap Weapons: M37, Mk22 Ammo, XM16E1 Ammo, XM16E1 Suppressor Food: Rat, Siberian Ink Cap, Sunda Whistling Thrush, Reticulated Python ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ After the cutscene, head to the side of the right-hand wall. Crawl, and there will be an opening on the eastern side of it. Crawl through to the other side. A guard will be patrolling down the road. Once he gets inbetween the two brick walls, get behind him and perform CQC to knock him out. Drag him into the grass and knife him. Head up the pathway towards the eastern side. When you come up to the building, hide behind a wall and check that the coast is clear, then enter. You can find an M37 behind some crates. Move up the stairs. Only proceed up the first flight, then look above you at the platform. A guard shoud be ducking and looking around. He can't see you, so tranq him in the face. Go up the next flight of stairs and knife him on the upper level (I love that phrase). Collect the suppressor and ammo for your XM16E1. Go back down the stairs, move east and hide behind some stacked cardboard boxes. A guard should come past and walk right next to you without seeing you. Use CQC on him and slit his throat or whatever. Just don't make noise. Head back towards the eastern side of the ruined building and look on the wall for a ladder. Climb up to gain access to the roof. Shoot some Sunda- Whistling Thrushes, and go back to the building. Go north all the way to the end of the building, and dive through the opening on the east side. If there is a guard waiting for you, take him out with CQC or your Mk22. Head south, then east in the small room. Open the door to encounter Sokolov. After the cutscene, head back to Dremuchij North. A rather long cutscene will ensue, so kick back and relax. Once the cutscene ends, you will have to cure your injuries. Open the survival viewer, and since Para-medic will be holding your hand through the whole thing; listen to her orders and you'll be fine. You have just beaten the Prologue! ============================================================================== 5.02] MISSION 1 [0502] ============================================================================== =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- DREMUCHIJ EAST =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Items: None Weapons: None Food: Flying Squirrel, Otton Frog, Reticulated Python ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ You don't actually find any items or weapons here, but Snake does start off with some. He has a M1911A1 pistol as his only weapon. Use it to capture food, because you won't have it for long. Hunt for frogs and snakes on the ground, and search the trees for flying squirrels scurrying on branches. There's little to do here, so proceed north to the next area. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- DREMUCHIJ NORTH =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Items: None Weapons: None Food: Flying Squirrel, Otton Frog, Tree Frog, Yabloko Moloko, Golova, Green Tree Python, Reticulated Python, Siberian Ink Cap ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Like the previous area, there is little to do here. Slide down the hill and move forwards. Aim in the branches of the tree on the side of the pathway to find a green tree python. Shoot it and take it as food. Continue down the path and witness a cutscene between you and The Boss. She steals your gun and tells you to leave. I doubt you'll listen to her anytime soon. The cutscene will end, and two guards will come onscreen. With you weaponless, flee southwest to the swamplands. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- DREMUCHIJ SWAMPLAND =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Items: None Weapons: None Food: Indian Gavial, Hornet's Nest, Golova, Tree Frog, Magpie, Reticulated Python ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Like last time, quickly proceed through the area. Avoid the gavials and stray from the quicksand unless needed to pass through. Head south into the next area. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- DREMUCHIJ SOUTH =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Items: None Weapons: Grenades, Stun Grenades, Chaff Grenades Food: Markhor, European Rabbit ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Go directly south from the entrance until you come across a log. Crawl under it and head east to collect the grenades. Go back west until you see the markhor. It's a goat-type animal, so knife it with caution. It can kick you and headbutt you, so proceed with caution. You may also happen to see a small rabbit hopping around the vacinity. Take the little guy out. Go west and hop on the platform next to the fallen tree. Hop to the otehr side, collect the chaff grenades, and head back to Dremuchij North. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- DREMUCHIJ NORTH =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Items: None Weapons: None Food: Flying Squirrel, Otton Frog, Tree Frog, Yabloko Moloko, Golova, Green Tree Python, Reticulated Python, Siberian Ink Cap ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Strangely, one of the guards will leave and the lone sentry will roam the crash site. With no weapons, you must use stealth actions wisely. Equip leaf camouflage and black face paint, and crawl in the underbrush. Take him out when his back faces you. Head straight, taking either path. There are no items to collect, so hurry to the next area. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- DOLINOVODNO =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Items: Raindrop Camouflage, Life Medicine Weapons: Smoke Grenades Food: Hornet's Nest, Tree Frog, Yabloko Moloko, Siberian Ink Cap ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A guard will patrol in front of the bridge. When he has his back turned, quickly slide down the hill and take him out with CQC. Hide behind the tree to the left. If another guard spots the corpse, he will rush over to see what's wrong. With his back to you, run behind the guards and perform another CQC on him. You can shake their bodies for useful items or ammo, then proceed across the bridge. Take out the guard past the bridge, then head down the side of the cliff like last time. Enter the alcove, and pick up the Raindrop Camouflage and Smoke Grenades. Continue back up the cliff and onto the next area. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- RASSVET =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Items: Zombie Face Paint, Scientist Camouflage, Bug Juice, Cardboard Box A, Thermal Goggles, Mine Detector Weapons: AK-47, Mk22, M1911A1, Smoke Grenades Food: Rat, Siberian Ink Cap, Sunda Whistling Thrush, Reticulated Python ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Enemies are absent this time through, so you can either hurry or take your time. You may want to go animal hunting if you're short on food. Enter the ruined base to trigger a cutscene. Eva arrives on the scene, and in the beginning of the cutscene, when the R1 icon appears, press R1 to "enjoy" the scene a little more. Eva gives you an Mk22, an M191A11 and a Scientist Camouflage. She tells you to rest. Snake falls asleep after their conversation. Snake will wake up to find Ocelot soldiers infiltrating the ruins. Eva escapes in a secret passageway under the ruins, and Snake tells her that he'll take care of the soldiers. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ BOSS: Ocelot Unit ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Follow Eva by opening the trapdoor and pressing Triangle. Once you're under, turn around and crawl through the opening. By the time you are right next to the opening, a guard should walk by. Throw a grenade under his feet and watch him get decimated. More guards will be alerted and run to investigate. Let them suffer the same fate by chucking a grenade at them. You can take out at least five out of the eight soldiers this way. Go through the opening and into the building. Jump on the crates to the northwest to obtain the Cardboard Box A. Return to Sokolov was held and open the locker in the corner to get Thermal Goggles. Exit the room and in the corner is a Mine Detector. Pick it up, then head west. When you reach the stairs, go up them and get the AK-47 on the platform. From here, you can get a bird's eye view of most of the area. Pick off the guard who is to the left of you immediately. Jump down and go back east. When you can go no further, continue north past some barrels. When you reach the boxes on the eastern side, bang on them to attract the soldier who is right on the other side of them. Kill him, then proceed north then west. Keep going west until you reach a dead end. Pick up the Zombie Face Paint. Go back to where the guard near the boxes was and aim towards the roof. Shoot a couple times to alert a guard on the rooftop. When he peeks over the edge, pop a cap in his head to take out the last soldier. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A cutscene will occur, where Ocelot gets served yet again, but by Eva this time in a rather painful way. Eva will crash through a gate in the northeast side of the area, so proceed there once the scene ends. Mission One ends after you leave Rassvet. ============================================================================== 5.03] MISSION 2 [0503] ============================================================================== =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- CHYORNYJ PRUD =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Items: Crocodile Cap, GA-KO Camouflage Weapons: AK-47 Ammo, M1911A1 Ammo, Chaff Grenades, White Phosphorous Grenades, Smoke Grenades, Stun Grenades Food: Indian Gavial, Poison Dart Frog, Coral Snake, Milk Snake, Arowana, Golova, Siberian Ink Cap ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This is a big area. Start off by taking out any snakes on the coast to obtain some more food. Avoid the gavials, or if you'd like, kill them to obtain three portions of food. Stay towards the west side of the lake to pick up Smoke Grenades, White Phosphorous Grenades, and AK-47 ammo. Proceed forward until you see a submerged log. Dive underwater by pressing X and swim under the log to the other side. Swim to the bank, where Mk22 ammo and Grenades are waiting. Pick them up and continue to the ivy-covered tree on the west side. Climb up it, walk on the branch, and press Triangle to shimmy along the rope. Shimmy until you reach another hope below you. Drop by pressing X, then quickly press Triangle to grab onto the rope below you. Shimmy along that rope until you reach a platform. Drop onto it and pick up the Crocodile Cap. Jump off of the platform and swim to the western side of the lake. Search the corner and equip the Thermal Goggles to help look for two submerged boxes. They contain the CA-KO Camouflage and Chaff Grenades. Head back to the submerged log and where you found the Mk22 bullets and grenades. Continue past the ivy tree, but stop and equip the Thermal Goggles. Avoid the red spot: IT'S A TRAP! (sorry, I had to) Continue up the path to your next destination. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- BOLSHAYA PAST SOUTH =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Items: Choco Chip Camouflage, Splitter Camouflage Weapons: Claymore Food: None ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I enjoyed this area a lot. I don't know why, but I did. If you went the left path, then continue forward until an electric fence blocks your way. Look at the lower part of the fence on the right side. A little part it cut out. Crawl through to the other side. Climb the ivy tree that's ahead of you, climb across teh branch, and drop down on the other side of the next fence. Proceed a little bit, and look around. You will see a guard dog with it's back facing you. Shoot it in the head a couple times before it can alert any of the guards. Go east this time, and hide in the hollowed out tree trunk. Equip a camo to keep you hidden, such as the Tiger Stripe or Tree Bark. Bang on the tree to attract some guards. CQC a guard if he's alone. If not, then unleash your AK- 47 on all of them. Shake their bodies for goods, then proceed west. Avoid the quicksand by staying on the left side, and follow the lone guard. Stalk him, then CQC him if the coast is clear. Drag his body in the grass (funny, you can't throw bodies into quicksand). If guards become cautioned, hide in the grass and tranq then as they approach. Kill them, and backtrack towards the quicksand. Head back south, then turn east when the quicksand ends. Jump on the platforms and shimmy along the cliffside. Make sure you don't fall off, and when you reach the widened ledge, pick up the Splitter camo. Jump down, then proceed north. Walk west along the electric fence, but proceed slowly. There may be a guard on patrol. Snipe him, and enter the opening past the electric fences. There shouldn't be any guards past this point. Head west and go inside the hollowed tree on the west side to obtain the Choco Chip camouflage. This time, take the right path; it makes things easier in the next area. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- BOLSHAYA PAST BASE =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Items: Water Camouflage, Snow Face Paint, Mousetrap, Bandages, Digestive Medicines, Life Medicine, Antidote Weapons: AK-47 Ammo, M1911A1 Ammo, M1911A1 Suppressor, White Phosphorous Grenades, Grenades, Stun Grenades, TNT |
