It may seem a little late now but since I already created a faq for NFS Carbon and enjoyed the game, I decided why not write a short faq about this game as well. The info that you will find in this faq is all handwritten in paper first, before being converted digitally. Please be free to tell me what you think about the faq, if you have questions, suggestions and other additional info you might want to add that I haven't included yet, just email me. I will respond to your email as soon as I check my mailbox out so, thank you in advance. Any insulting, hate or really incomprehensible emails will be either ignored or responsed in kind. Oh, I will post those emails as well in my next updates. I am a working gamer so I don't expect this guide to be as perfect as the others you might find on the web. But based on my own experience in the game, I tried my best to cover all aspects I can cover. So, enjoy and goodluck! ___. .*`|___',~~~,. Unlike the earlier titles, there are some new features integrated into this game. Although the essence of the game is street racing and customizing the cars are part of the career, the player now needs to battle against a gang of street racers and possibly become the most notorious street racer in Rockport. Like NFS: Underground, players can still change the appearances of their cars, but not for reputation points but to lower the cops' heat level on their vehicles, which may prompt for regular mods. Police chases add more twist to the player's career. The cops will not just follow racers with just their puny sedans. They will employ different technologies, to pacify anybody - ranging from ordinary roadblocks to deployment of high-end, patrol cars. The main objective of the game is that the player must climb his way up from the bottom of the list; which requires a lot of races needed to won and infractions/ bounty to be collected. With that said, let's continue with the main stuff. ___. .*`|___',~~~,. It also fills up automatically as you ride, giving you infinite supply of Nos. It is also used to balance the \ car in case it starts to skid out of control. S P E E D B R E A K E R ----------------------- - The speedbreaker feature in NFSMW is very useful primarily during chases and tight races. Activating the speedbreakers enters everything into slow mode, giving you excellent control in the car. Use this to get past tight spots or enter narrow entrances and shortcuts. Like the nitrous, it fills up automatically. P U R S U I T B R E A K E R S ------------------------------- - In NFSMW, attracting police attention is required to climb all your way to the blacklist. Now getting in a chase with the police is good but as they swarm you in numbers, pursuit breakers are very useful in taking care of the police cars pursuing you. Pursuit breakers are anything that you could destroy to hamper or disable the police cars following you. In Carbon, they can be used against rival racers. Unfortunately, here in NFSMW, rival racers can't be disabled by pursuit breakers. + + + + + + + + R A C E S ++ + + + + + ++ .--------------------------------. | S P R I N T | .--------------------------------. Sprint races are usually a one-way races where your main objective is to race from the start to the finish lines. One of the basic races you'll ever join. WIN CONDITION : Reach the goal first LOSE CONDITION: Reach the goal 2nd place and below .--------------------------------. | D R A G | .--------------------------------. This race is all about speed. The objective is to reach the goal in the shortest time possible - which means you need to be lightning fast. During this mode also, other controls are disabled (including brakes) which means you can't stop - only slow down. You need to time the gear shifting precisely for your car to accelerate to its top speed. WIN CONDITION : Reach the goal first LOSE CONDITION: Reach the goal 2nd or your car gets totalled .--------------------------------. | C I R C U I T | .--------------------------------. Circuits as the name emplies, is a set of roundtrip races, the racer who can complete the required number of laps or rounds is declared the winner. Another basic race. WIN CONDITION : Complete the required laps first LOSE CONDITION: Finish 2nd place and below .--------------------------------. | S P E E D T R A P | .--------------------------------. Speedtraps are not ordinary races. It doesn't matter if you reach the goal first or not. In the whole track, there will be strategically positioned speedtraps that records your speed as you pass through it. The main objective: Obtain the highest total speed record captured by the speedtraps. That means you need to be at your top speed before going through a speed trap for better results. WIN CONDITION : Reach the goal with the highest speed total LOSE CONDITION: Reach the goal with a lower speed total than the first. Note: After the first racer reaches the finish line, the other racers will get a time penalty, which deducts their total points for every second that passes by. .--------------------------------. | T O L L B O O T H | .--------------------------------. Probably one of the easiest races in the game. Its basically a normal checkpoint race where you need to reach the checkpoints along the track before the given time runs out. As long as you have a fast car, there is no problem in completing this race. You have no rivals in this event. WIN CONDITION : Reach the goal within the time limit LOSE CONDITION: Time runs out .--------------------------------. | L A P K N O C K O U T | .--------------------------------. Lap knockout is basically an elimination race. It is always composed of 3 laps around the track, with the last racer being eliminated. Staying in front of the pack is the only way to succeed. WIN CONDITION : Reach the goal in 1st place. LOSE CONDITION: Finish behind the rival racers. + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + H E A T - O V E R V I E W - ATG004 + + + + + + + + + + + + + ++ Heat is basically the term used to describe how "hot" your ride is in the cops' eyes. Heat level is increased whenever you use your car in milestones and pursuits. The higher your heat level, the more aggressive your pursuers will be and the better measures they'll use to stop you. Driving a "hot" ride doesn't only attract chicks; they also attract cops. This is true when you observe that they tend to notice you more quickly. If that's the case, then you'll need to lower your car's heat. LOWERING HEAT LEVELS -------------------- 1. CHANGING APPEARANCES - Like what I mentioned a while ago, modding your car in this game could not be as important in the previous NFS titles. Changing the paint, wheels, body kits, spoilers, vinyls and even window tints lower your car's heat levels in a reasonable amount. 2. USING ANOTHER RIDE - A hot car will eventually "cool down" after a while since the police will take note of your new ride. Owning multiple competitive vehicles (especially) blacklist cars is the key here. + + + + + + + + + + + + H E A T L E V E L S - ATG005 + + + + + + + + + + + + This section will discuss about the heat levels and how much pressure you will receive from the law. The higher the heat levels, the more units will be dispatched to take you down. Also note that its hard evading a pursuit without knowing the 'strategic' locations around the city. LEVEL 1 - Nothing much. Civic cruisers are your main enemy in this level and they can be easily shaken off or disabled. Moving roadblocks will be used by cruisers where 2-3 cruisers will try to block your front and slow you down to a stop. LEVEL 2 - Black, undercover civic cruisers will join the party. Although a bit tough than the ordinary cruisers, the can be disabled easily. Moving roadblocks and normal roablocks will be employed here. LEVEL 3 - At this level, you will encounter heavier, faster GTOs. They are hard to disable by normal means, and you need to use pursuit breakers to get them off your tail. They can also keep their speed with you, so don't expect to outrun them. Normal roadblocks will be deployed. LEVEL 4 - Hell starts in this level. From this on, a pair of heavy 'RHINO' SUVs will occasionnally attack you head on. Hitting them directly will stop your car dead on track no matter how fast you're running. Use your speedbreakers as soon as you see two black dots coming towards you. Police choppers will be deployed as well. As long as you're in and open area, the chopper's eyes will be on you. Also, while the chopper is over you, YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO EVADE even if there are no police vehicles pursuing you. Note also that other units will find you quickly if you have the helicopter on your tail. The police will also use SPIKE STRIPS. These will puncture your tires and will immediately end the pursuit. You can still run with a blown tire or two but the handling of the car will be drastically affected. Escape is almost impossible. LEVEL 5 - A combination of levels 4 and 3 units, not to mention that the chopper will occasionally nudge you off the road, so use the speedbreaker to escape this attack. There are also more numbers of units deployed to hunt you. the cops are known as C6 Corvette drivers. LEVEL 6 - This level will only be unlocked during the last race, after defeating Razor. If level 4 was hell, then this level is "heller than hell". Everything will be thrown at you at this time. You'll be introduced to heavy, undercover pursuit vehicles, race cars of the police force. These are black exotics, that can stop you by simply braking in front of you. You need to use all means possible to survive even a few seconds on this level. LEVEL 7 - This level will only be unlocked in Challenge series only of the Black Edition Verison of Most Wanted. their just use Heavy RHINO SUVs of the pursuit and their all chasing you. Just Ramming Rhino SUVs, Normal Roadblocks and Spike STRIPS. better watch out for those units their follow you until you make one mistake and it's over. These Rhino SUVs are heavoir, don't mess with them, just keep driving + + + + + + + + + + + + + P U R S U I T S - ATG006 + + + + + + + + + + + + + A pursuit starts when you've been reported, and a roaming police car spots you. Whenever you destroy something, drive recklessly, or even hit civilian car, most likely, you'll be reported through 911. If you don't want to get into trouble, just jump to the safehouse if you hear the police dispatcher trying to get the details of the report. If the dispatcher was able to describe/ identify your car, then most likely, the first police unit that spots you will quickly identify you. Then the pursuit will begin. You can also start a pursuit by selecting a milestone challenge from your game menu. EVADING THE PURSUIT ------------------- If you notice, there are two bars in the middle of your screen during a pursuit. The bar that fills to the right indicates that you're out of of police visibility and you'll enter COOLDOWN MODE after that. If the cooldown mode gauge fills up completely, then you successfully evaded the pursuit. HIDING SPOTS: ------------- Around the map, there are "HIDING SPOTS". Hiding in these enclosed locations will fill up your Cooldown gauge quicker. If a police unit manages to find you in a Hiding Spot while the cooldown mode, the gauge will disappear and the pursuit will resume. Hiding spots are indicated as blue circles in the map. GETTING BUSTED --------------- If the red gauge on the left fills up completely, the pursuits ends and you'll get busted by the police. Any collected bounty or completed milestone challenges will be forfeited and you'll end up with just wasting your time. The gauge will fill up faster, the closer the police to you. If you stop or slow down, the gauge will fill faster. Avoid getting busted by keep on moving. + + + + + + B O U N T Y: - ATG007 + + + + + + + Bounty is basically the "the price of your head". Every law you break, and milestones you perform adds more bounty to your overall bounty. Basically, in the NFSMW world, this is how notorious you are compared to the other racers. As you noticed, if you already played the game, that each blaclist requires a certain amount of bounty for them to consider racing against you. Reach or exceed that target, the better. + + + + + + + + + + + + + M I L E S T O N E S - ATG008 + + + + + + + + + + + + + Milestones are basically challenges laid to you by the blacklist members, basically these are their own records or where they're good at. Not to mention that each successfully completed milestone adds bounty to your total, aside from the normal bounty that you acquired while performing the milestone. Aside from the phototicket milestone, you can complete several milestones in a single pursuit. Remember that you must live through and escape the pursuit completely for these milestones to be recorded. TRADEPAINT (Tagging) -------------------- The tradepaint challenge requires you to tag X number of police vehicles to complete it. This include the ones pursuing you, the cars on roadblocks and Rhinos ramming you. I'm not sure if the helicopter diving down and ramming you counts. Its not required to disable them, just nudge them or hit them. If you can disable them while performing this milestone, the better but be warned that it can boost your heat levels faster than anticipated. PURSUIT EVASION --------------- This milestone is about how fast you can escape the arms of the law. You will be given a time limit and within that short span of time given, you need to evade the pursuit. Remember that escaping the police momentarily and entering cooldown mode will just freeze the timer; your cooldown gauge must fill up completely to escape completely. Try to do this challenge against lower heat levels since the cruisers there are easiest to disable; thus ending the pursuit in a few seconds. PURSUIT TIME CHALLENGE ---------------------- This milestone this time, is a test on how you can manage within a specific time range. You will enter a pursuit in X minutes and you must keep on running all around the place, dodging/ fighting the police until that time expires. This can be bad on higher heat levels since you'll start the pursuit with tough police vehicles and tactics already. Its recommended to start this challenge in lower heat levels, to at least give you some leeway or few minutes of breathing space until the real deals come in. ROADBLOCK --------- You will need to get through a given number of police roadblocks. You don't necessarily need to force your way through the line of police cars blocking the path; you can even just fly through an opening if there's any. SPIKE STRIP CHALLENGE --------------------- Similar to the roadblock challenge, this time you need to pass through a certain number of spike strips laid out by the police. This can be tougher since the cops won't deploy this tactic in lower heat levels. That means that you'll get your hand full with just those GTO cruisers, Rhinos, choppers, normal roadblocks, etc and you still need to avoid the spikes. Remember to use the speedbreaker when going through a spike strip. This will give you a few seconds to plan your path and avoid busting tires accidentally by running even one of those spikes. BOUNTY ------ This milestone requires you to earn a certain amount of IN-PURSUIT bounty. You can earn this by doing nasty things that cops hate. COST TO STATE ------------- This milestone goes hand and hand with the bounty challenge; the number of police cars deployed to you eats up the state's resources. The damages you inflict to civilian property counts as well. The duration of the pursuit increases CTS also. INFRACTIONS ----------- These are the actual regulations you broke, your crime record. There are six kinds of infractions. 1. Speeding - driving hard and over the speed limit. 2. Excessive Speeding - Driving harder and faster. (Over 100 MPH) 3. Reckless driving - This is includes excessive/speeding and ramming civilian cars and public propery along the way. 4. Ramming a police vehicle - Basically "tagging" a police vehicle gently still counts 5. Damage to property - Basically destroying any public property like trees, telephone booths, signs, etc. 6. Hit & Run - Ramming a civilian car and evading the police 7. Resisting Arrest - It applies when you slow down and the police tries to corner you and you manage to escape; Also acquired when you avoid them and get out of their line of sight. 8. Driving Off Roadway - Basically off another place except the main road. This includes shortcuts, parks and other places where cars should not go. PHOTO TICKET ----------- You just need to meet or exceed the minimum speed requirement when driving through a police speedtrap. Although later in the game, the speed requirement is low but its strategically placed in a tight corner with lots of civilian cars passing by. - .---^ - - - `\>'.|___\~~-. X + + + + + + + + + ++++++++ + + ++++ XX - - -- C' !` --\ [TIPS & HINTS] +++++++ +++ ++ +XX+++++++ + + -------- |_(O)=====(O)==P +++++X X +X+++++ +++ +++ X XX+ X+X+ ++X+ X+ C A R E E R ----------- * Shortcuts can either be your friend or foe. Unless you are approaching clean to a shortcut, dont make so much effort to take them everytime since you will just get stuck most likely. * Decide what you'll buy or not. Money is hard to earn in this game. Do not buy anything that fancies you. Remember, when selling a car you will only get only HALF OF ITS BASE PRICE. All upgrades invested on the car will be lost. * As much possible, try to win the easier races first such as the checkpoint and sprint races. Try to win territories since they also unlock upgrades for your car also. * If you want to test a car's max capability before buying it, you can go to the MY CARS options in the main menu. Here, you can upgrade and customize it with all the parts you have unlocked so far. * Extra impound markers and Getting out for jail Free markers will be the most useless bonus markers you can get from boss battles. As much as possible, try to get PINK SLIPS and CASH. * Tune your car real time, especially on races where you need to apply changes on the fly. * Another way to make a sharp turn is by releasing the pedal, tap the handbrake while steering to the direction of the corner. If done properly, you wont lose much of your speed. If not... * AI Racers care too much about their cars. They are afraid to trade paint or hit the wall. Use this tactic to keep them at bay. Try forcing an opponent against the wall and he will slow down instead. It wont hurt playing hard and dirty some of the time... * Remember the bus station. Most of NFSMW players know about this 'sacred' place and you can earn a whole lot of easy bounty just by staying there during a pursuit. If you want to scout it ahead, its south of the Rosewood Police Station; still its hard to point it by words. Just remember these descriptions. - Its near a petrol station - In the map looks like an odd diamond just north of the river. - Of course, its full of buses - It has glass walls; colored green - You can drive through inside. Note that this place can be used as a shortcut in almost all Rosewood tracks. To use the bus station: - Drive inside, get on the ramp. The left lane is full of buses and the right lane is just the flat platform. Either way you just need to stay up there and watch the police as the mindlessly try to ram you and destroy the indestructible buses. Just stay there, and watch your bounty raise like a meter. - Sometimes, some police cars figure out how to climb on the ramp and get behind you. Reversing won't help. But if you try to move forward a bit, the cop will rev so hard that he will slip and fall. - On some instances that you really can't trick the cop from falling off and he is just staying behind you, quickly intentionally fall and upon impact, reset your car. You will be taken back to the top of the buses/ ledge where you originally fell off - provided that the police behind you is not there anymore. -------------------------------- * NO CIVILIAN CARS IN CAREER RACES -------------------------------- There is a way to eliminate those pesky civilian cars in all career races - including some boss tracks. To do this, you need to take note of the track you'll take in Career mode. Now, go to the main menu and select Quick Race. Set the options to no traffic (if applicable) then choose the track with the same name and start the race. As soon as the quickrace starts, exit the race. Now continue your career and enter the track you want to race on. There should be no stupid and lousy civilian cars blocking your way. You should do the same process again in other tracks. P U R S U I T ------------- - DO NOT RESET your car if the police is right behind you and you somehow crashed/ lost control of the car during a pursuit. 95% of the time, you'll be busted. - Use pursuit breakers sparingly, specially on major chases. You wouldn't like to crush one cruiser trailing behind you with a pursuit breaker. You'll just be thankful that they're there when you need them and several dogs hot behind you. - A direct hit from a Rhino can stop you dead on track. They always travel in pairs so be cautious when you see two large black dots coming at your direction; you will only have a few seconds to change your direction and avoid a direct hit. Using a speedbreaker is recommended in these situations. - Some shortcuts can hide you from the cops. If you have good distance against the nearest cruiser, take a shortcut and watch them passby. Then drive slowly in their opposite direction. You won't be able to use this tactic often in higher heat levels. * Nitrous is a great way to stabilize the car. If you find yourself losing control of the car, blast a couple of seconds worth of Nitrous to straighten the car. Also, use nitrous when exiting corners. * When a car jumps in midair, take off your hands from the accelerator. Accelerate after hitting the ground. This prevents you from throwing your car out of control. -----======------- T H E S T O R Y ----========------ The game starts from the days before to the present day and all that transpired during that span of time. With your heavily modded BMW M3, you are ready to take the streets of Rockport from the self-proclaimed king, Razor. Knowing that you'll definitely smoke him, he sabotages your precious ride and it stops in the middle of the race. You end up losing your ride. Fortunately, a girl named Mia helped you find a place to stay and your climb to the Blacklist... It may seem a simple success story in the making but it's really not.
