It is about a god who flew through vast fields and watched over the verdant life all across the land. This god became known as Okami, and was honored by all of the people in the land. However, in the present day the dragon Orochi has been resurrected, 100 years after it managed to kill Okami. Its return cursed the land of Nippon, swallowing the green plants and verdant plains until the land was shrowded in darkness. Only the small Kamaki Village was able to avoid this terrible fate thanks to the wood sprite Sakuya who inhabited a sacred tree that watched over the village. Distressed by the disaster, she had to request help from an ancient god. Performing a ritual, she drew the spirit of the god Amaterasu into the statue of Okami that rested in a shrine next to the sacred tree. Amaterasu was the world's only hope of restoring the land to its former glory, and a long quest awaited her. =========================================================================== ~2.Controls~ =========================================================================== The controls for Okami are easy to learn. The game uses both the Wiimote and the Nunchuk, so make sure you have both pieces of the controller to play the game. A Button--Jump (press again in midair to double jump once you have the Holy Eagle skill), press while against a wall to wall jump (can only do once per jump), hold to paint while using the Celestial Brush, confirm options B Button--Hold it to use the Celestial Brush, cancel options Control Pad--Move camera around - Button--Open the Options menu + Button--Open the Fan menu 1 Button--Display map 2 Button--Zoom camera near/far from Amaterasu, hold to view in 1st person perspective Z Button--Talk to people, examine objects, bark, hold to draw a straight line while using the Celestial Brush, use Sub-Weapon, save game at Origin Mirror C Button--Keep pressing to dig a hole in the ground, press in battle to use Golden Fury, hold in battle to use Brown Rage (Ammy must learn those last two techniques from the Dojo first) Control Stick--Move Amaterasu Wiimote--Shake outside of combat to perform a tackle which makes you run faster if you are already running (and can be used to destroy certain objects), shake in combat to use weapon Nunchuk--Shake to dodge in the direction you shake (requires the Fleetfoot skill learned from the Dojo) =========================================================================== ~3.Facets of Okami~ =========================================================================== There are many features to the extremely large world of Okami. This section breaks down the majority of the features you will be using on your long quest. Get to know all of these features relatively early and you won't have much trouble on your journey. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~3A.Exploring Nippon~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The majority of the game will be spent exploring new areas and discovering how to reach selected destination. There is generally only one main route to get to any destination, but there are a ton of distractions that will quickly get you sidetracked on your journey. Nippon is large and vast, and there are plenty of hidden locations and people to talk to. As a rule of thumb, it's best to talk to everyone that you encounter. Many people will have useful information to provide, such as clues to nearby hidden locations or items, or tricks in reach an already visited destination faster. Some people will even ask you to do small tasks for them, which should be completed in order to earn Praise. And since the game is so focused on exploring the land, not to mention the game encourages it, you should seek out every nook in cranny that you can find. Almost everything that is hidden in the game will often give you some reward, whether it is money, an item, or more Praise. Collecting everything will make your journey easier, and can help power up Amaterasu. Over the course of the game you will enter many "dungeon" like areas. Such areas always end with a boss, and for some of these areas you can't return to them once you complete them. There are no critical items in the no return dungeons, but even so you should still make sure you don't miss any free items that the dungeon hands you. You never know when they'll be useful. Finally, always keep certain items with you at all times. Always have healing items with you incase you get into a tough battle. Steel Fist Sake and Vengence Slips are also good items to keep with you. You'll obviously want these to avoid getting killed in combat. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~3B.On Screen Items~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's best to get familiar with the objects and icons that are present on the screen at almost all times. Solar Energy--Displayed in the top left corner as little suns, this is Amaterasu's health bar. Whenever she takes damage from enemies, the bar decreases by making the suns fade to black. Enemies late in the game are capable of knocking two or three suns per attack, so it's always a good idea to keep an eye on your health and keep it conserved. Restore health by grabbing Solar Energy pickups that enemies may drop, or by using a health restoration item. You start with three units, but can expand it up to 20 units. Ink Bottles--This bar is kept below the Solar Energy bar. It displays the amount of Ink Bottles that you currently have, and if they are full or not. When you use a Celestial Brush technique, one Ink Bottles is used (some techniques may use two or three bottles). When you aren't using a brush technique, the bottles will fill back one at a time. It takes about five seconds for one bottle to refill. You start with three bottles but can increase it up to a total of 10 bottles. Astral Meter--Once you obtain the Astral Pouch, you can begin filling it with food. When Amaterasu eats food, a small pouch will appear on the bottom left side of the screen, along with a number. Each food eaten will increase that number (some foods make it increase more than others). When it reaches 200, the pouch will turn red and will be full. If you have additional pouches, they can then be filled (the game switches to them automatically). If you ever die, and you have at least one full Astral Pouch, all of the food from that pouch will be used to fully restore Amaterasu's life without getting a game over. You can get a maximum of four Astral Pouches. Command Window--When you get near certain things, you may be prompted to push the Z button to initiate the command listed in the window in the bottom left corner of the screen. This could be talking to people, examining scenery or signs, or feeding wild animals. Issun does all of the talking/explaining for you, so all you need to do is listen to what he says. Yen Purse--Displayed in the bottom right corner, this number shows the amount of Yen you currently have on hand. You start with a five digit purse, but can expand it into an eight digit purse capable of storing millions of Yen. You'll use Yen to purchase all sorts of items throughout the game. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~3C.Fan Menu~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- When you hit the + Button you will bring up the Fan Menu. There are several different screens of information to look through when you open the menu. The first screen is iconed by a yellow bag with a red swirl at the top of the screen. This is the items screen. Amaterasu's currently equipped weapon and sub-weapon, equipped holy artifacts, current health, Yen, Demon Fangs, and amount of Sun Fragments are shown on the right side of the screen. The left side has the Tools and Equipment button. Tools leads to your current inventory of items and key items. You can use your normal items if it is possible to do so (such as health restoring items, something only possible if you aren't at full health). Equipment leads to your stash of Divine Instruments and Holy Artifacts. You can equip your weapons and artifacts as you see fit. The second screen is iconed by Amaterasu's head. This screen lists your Divine Attributes--Solar Energy, Ink Pots, Astral Pouches, and Yen Purse. Your current amount of Praise is listed here. You can spend Praise upgrading these four stats. Hodl the A button to inject Praise into the stat of your choice, and when it fills up it will increase. The required amount of Praise needed for each upgrade is also listed. Remember, each upgrade will require more and more Praise. Solar Energy can be increased twelve times, Ink Pots seven times, Astral Pouches three times, and Yen Purse three times. Upgrade however way you want. There's enough Praise in the game and then some to max out every ability. If you want my opinion, upgrade on order of important: Ink Pots--> Solar Energy-->Purse. Astral Pouches aren't necessary--only one should be needed, and you should always have plenty of healing items with you anyway. The third screen is iconed by the Celestial Brush. The list of brush techniques you have learned, as well as pictures on how to draw them, are listed here. Look at this screen if you've forgotten how to draw something. The fourth screen is iconed by a scroll. There are eight different points of data here. The first is the Logbook, containing three different lists. The first is the Journal, which records recent key conversations noting on what task or location you need to visit next. The second is Fortunes. One character in the game will offer you fortunes on where to go next in your request. Her answer is listed here. Third is the Wanted List. Several characters in the game will want you to kill certain monsters, and there names will be marked on Wanted Lists viewable here. The Travel Guide brings up a list of 30 scrolls to read. You'll find these scrolls throughout the game. They contain info on how to use brush techniques, battling, among other things. The Bestiary shows pictures of enemies you have encountered, as well as descriptions of the enemy. Methods on how to kill them easily are listed for most foes as well. It's useful to read. The Move List describes how to perform each hidden technique you have learned from the Dojo. Look here if you've forgotten how to pull them off. The Animal Tome lists the percentage of each type of animal in the game you have fed. The Fish Tome lists how many of each fish you have in your inventory, and the Treasure Tome lists how many of each treasure you have in your inventory. fish and Treasure serve no other purpose other than easy cash for selling them to merchants. Finally, there's the Stray Beads. There are 100 Stray Beads in the game, and each one you find is recorded here. Look here to find which numbered beads you do and don't have. The final screen is iconed by a map. It lists, obviously, a map of Nippon, or the current city/village/dungeon you are currently in. Amaterasu's location is shown by her head, and locations of any Origin Mirrors, Ultimate Mirrors, and Mermaid Springs are also shown. Red X's are the locations of places you should investigate at some point. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~3D.Praise~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Throughout the game you will be earning Praise. Praise is faithful power received from reviving nature and helping people or animals. There are many places through the game where you can earn Praise, and it is something you will want to constantly be wanting to find. In the Divine Attributes section of the Fan Menu you will find the total amount of Praise you have accumulated thus far. The amount of Solar Energy, Ink Pots, Astral Pouches, and Purse size are shown here. You can spend your hard earned Praise increasing these stats. The amount of Praise needed to upgrade each stat is listed next to each ability. You'll collect Praise by helping people out. Giving them items they request or completed a task they wish they were able to accomplish themselves is a good way to get Praise. All over Nippon you will find animals on the ground or flying around, landing on the ground occasionally. You can feed groups of animals using food pouches you can purchase from merchants (seeds, herbs, meat, and fish). You can feed each group of animals only once, however. If the animals have hearts above their heads, then they have already been fed. You can check the Animal Tome in the Fan Menu to see the percentages of each animal fed. Around 1000 Praise can be earned total from feeding all the animals in the game. Also around Nippon you can find a pillar of green light bursting from the ground. Dig a hole with the C button in these spots to make a wilted clover grow. Use Bloom brush technique in order to revive the clover and receive Praise. Clovers that appear towards the end of the game tend to give a ton of Praise than clovers early in the game, but regardless you should always Bloom one whenever you find the green light. It's easy Praise. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~3E.Celestial Brush~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Celestial Brush is an ability unique to Amaterasu. At the push of a button you can bring up a screen where you can draw various shapes and figures, changing the world around you. You'll get it near the beginning of the game. To use it, hold the B button to bring up the canvus. The screen will turn a musty brown, and the brush will appear. Now, pointing the Wiimote at the screen, hold A to draw whatever you wish. You can only affect the world by using the abilities you have learned. Drawing a plant isn't going to make one appear, basically. There are a total of thirteen abilities you will learn throughout the game, and several hidden techniques that aren't required for your success but are necessary for sidequests. All brush techniques can be used in combat, too. Most enemies have at least one technique weakness, so exploit them whenever possible to make your progress easier. Remember, each ability uses one ink pot (although several hidden techniques may use more ink pots), so wait for them to refill before using more techniques. Finally, Amaterasu is the focus point when using the brush. That means that you have full control of the camera, and can rotate around Amaterasu as you see fit. It's useful in some areas when you can't normally get the camera to view something, as the camera while using the brush is a bit more free. It's a lifesaver in enemy and boss battles as well. Don't forget it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~3F.Item Collection~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Throughout the game you will collect a large variety of items. All of them are useful, but many are also situational. Most of the items are in the Tools section of the Fan Menu. They can used at any time (except for the key items on their on row at the bottom), but only in certain situations. Items that increase strength/defense can only be used while in combat, and health items can't be used when you are at full health. Other items can be used at any time, such as the Gold Dust which increases the power of one weapon. Most items are purchased from various merchants around Nippon, which can be found under their trademark umbrellas. Items can also be found in treasure chests also located all over Nippon. Explore everywhere to find the items. Treasure chests can also contain, well, treasure itself. These items serve no purpose other than easy money when sold to merchants. Weapons are also items you'll want to collect. You will obtain most of the Divine Instruments through the story, but a few of them will need to be purchased from merchants. They are expensive, and only certain merchants in Nippon sell them. Search for them--the more powerful the instrument the easier it will be to kill foes. Finally, there are Holy Artifacts. These are very rare items with special effects. You can only have a maximum of three equipped at a time. You are given one of them midway through the game. The rest need to be traded for Demon Fangs. The effects of the items will only occur if equipped, obviously. For instance, one items allows you to walk on water while another refills Ink Pots at a very quick rate. Get them all--they are very useful. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~3G.Battling Enemies and Weapons~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- All across Nippon you will find floating Demon Scrolls. These don't appear in major areas likes towns or villages, just main routes connecting them. Any Demon Scrolls you do find in cities or villages are either scripted battles or result in some reward. If Amaterasu touches a Demon Scroll, a wall of energy will appear around you and several enemies will spawn. As with any fight in a video game, simply drain the health of a foe to kill them. Kill every foe to end the battle. You can escape battles, however. If the wall is blue/purple, then in multiple section of the wall you can find a glowing circle. Attack this several times with any weapon to make it wide and red, allowing you to jump through it and escape battle. Escaping battle has no repercussions, but it lowers your Godhood (your shield), so be careful. If the wall is red, then the battle can't be escaped from. When enemies are defeated they will drop Yen over the ground. Run near it collect it. When all enemies are defeated, you will receive a cash bonus depending on a few things. First, there's the base amount of money you received. You are capable of doubling it in each battle. This is based on how quickly you completed the battle, and how much damage you received. For time, it's different in each battle depending on the type of enemies and how many you encounter. For damage, simply put if you never get hit you receive the best rating (losing Godhood doesn't count as being hit; only losing Solar Energy units matter). In each stat a tree represents your rank. The worst is a wilted seed, a 0% bonus. Next is a small tree, giving a 10% bonus, then a bigger tree giving a 20% bonus, a tree with green leaves giving around a 25% bonus, and finally the best ranking, a cherry blossom giving a 50% bonus. The percentages for each bonus is added up, taken from your base earnings, and then added together to form a total. For instance, if you earned 5000 Yen from enemies, got a green leaf tree for time and cherry blossom for damage, that's a 75% bonus. 75% of 5000 is 3750, so the total Yen earned from that battle would be 8750. Also, each enemy in the game has a "floral finisher". When you strike the lethal blow on an enemy, you have a short second or two to draw a certain brush technique on that enemy. If you do the right technique based on the enemy, they will give you a Demon Fang (some enemies drop two, and even three fangs). There are several Demon Fang traders across Nippon that'll give you neat items in exchange for them, and one trader that will give you very rare and useful items for them. It's wise to save them up. Note that in the Wii version of Okami you can only get Demon Fangs from enemies, whereas in the PS2 version you were also able to get them in loading screens. This is because the Wii version has significantly shorter loading screens, and thusly obtaining Demon Fangs from them would be quite hard. There is nothing else to gain from battling besides cash and Demon Fangs, so if you want you can just avoid Demon Scrolls altogether. Just be careful at nighttime because if you get near a Demon Scroll it will chase you for a few seconds, making battles a little harder to avoid. Around Nippon you can also find Devil Gates, which look like small haunted shacks. Enter them to enter an unescapable fight with several waves of enemies. Defeating all the enemies and purging the world of the Devil Gate will restore the local environment, netting you some Praise. Also hidden around Nippon are three special Devil Gates with ten waves of enemies. These gates contain enemies with more health and power than normal, and are hard to beat. They net special rewards if you can find and destroy them, however. Finally, the last thing to note in combat is your Godhood. It's the symbol in the bottom left corner of the screen. There are five stages of it-- green, yellow, red, none, or a skull. As you score combos on enemies, your Godhood will increase from nothing to red, then yellow, then green. Getting hit will reduce Godhood one level (the lowest level is nothing, however). It's a shield in this sense. Losing Godhood won't hurt your health at all. It's best to keep Godhood up so you can take several hits before actually losing health. If you every fall into a bottomless pit in the overworld, or you escape from battle, Godhood also decreases one level. However, doing this is the only way to reach the skull level of Godhood. In this stage, Amaterasu's attacks are weaker and she will take about 50% more damage than normal. Use a Traveler's Charm or any other Godhood increasing item to escape the skull level, or just combo enemies until you return to normal. Try to avoid falling into pits to not enter this stage. Now, throughout the game you will encounter three different types of weapons. These are your source of attacks when fighting. All of the attacks require you to shake the Wiimote in order to attack. The three different types of weapons are: Reflectors--Morderately hard timing, pretty powerful, reflects enemy shots as a Sub-Weapon Rosaries--Easiest timing, weakest weapon, can quickly combo multiple enemies, various Sub-Weapon abilities (such as Ink Bullet) Glaives--Hardest timing, most powerful, has a charge ability for stronger attacks, does a quick forward spike as a Sub-Weapon All players will have their own favorites type of weapon to use. I prefer Rosaries, but others like Reflectors or Glaives more. Regardless, you're still killing enemies with weapons, so take your pick on whichever type you prefer using. Reflectors have a certain timing to them. When you shake the Wiimote, Amaterasu will do a small hop dash towards the enemy and strike them with the Reflector. When she lands back on the ground, shake the Wiimote again to attack again. If you flail the Wiimote, Amaterasu will generally stall on the ground and won't attack. Once you find the right rhythm to attacking, using Reflectors becomes very easy. For Rosaries, no timing is necessary. Flail the Wiimote to send out the beads, which home in on the nearest enemy. Keep shaking it to continue attacking and scoring huge combos. Rosaries have enormous range, and they are capable of striking many enemies at once if you are at the right angle. They don't do a whole lot of damage in one shot, but if you keep up the combo you can kill enemies just as fast as you would with other weapons. These are the weapon of choice for those who don't want to time their attacks. Glaives are hard to use, but are very powerful. You can shake the Wiimote for a single slice, or wave it up to lift the sword and charge an attack. You can't move while charging, however. Swing the Wiimote down to make a powerful impact, severely injuring all enemies in the way. The timing is tricky to learn, but once mastered players can end battles quickly with these powerful weapons. To switch weapons, open the Fan Menu and select "Equipment". You can equip one Weapon and one Sub-Weapon. Sub-Weapons are used in combat with the Z button, and have various effects. Experiment a bit. Each Divine Instrument you recieve can be used as either type of weapon, so customize Amaterasu as you see fit. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~3H.Saving~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- All across Nippon, and in dungeons, you will be wanting to save. Luckily, Origin Mirrors are in many major locations in Nippon. Step up to a mirror and the camera will focus on it. When it zooms in to show the mirror, press the Z button to bring up the list of save files. From there you'll need to overwrite a file to save the game. Entering the podium of the mirror fully restores your health and ink. There are two types of mirrors--normal Origin Mirrors which are just white, and Ultimate Mirrors which have a black X across them. There's no saving differences between the mirrors, but if you buy the Fog Pot for a large amount of Demon Fangs, you can warp between any Ultimate Mirrors in areas you've visited (just the areas--you don't need to have ever stepped on the Ultimate Mirror of the area to warp there). To do so, paint an X on the X of the mirror. The game is finicky about this (the Wii version, that is), and drawing a + on the mirror instead has a far higher success rate. Remember to save whenever possible! You never know when something may go wrong (such as the game freezing...) and you'll need to restart from the last save point. =========================================================================== ~4.Celestial Walkthrough~ =========================================================================== And now to cover the actual game itself. This walkthrough is essentially a 100% walkthrough. I don't go out of my way to do long sidequests, however. If there is anything that can be collected on the path to a destination, I will make note of it. The walkthrough is split into sections, each one being one of the key objectives of the game from start to finish. This should make finding where you are stuck much easier. The second to last section will be a whirlwind tour of Nippon, collecting every item and doing every sidequest that was not included in the main walkthrough. Since you're the player, you aren't required to do that. Performing just the bare minimum to complete the game is always acceptable. Things included in this walkthrough besides just the path to get from point A to point B are animals to feed, ways to get Praise, special items to be found, hidden areas on any route, and other things of the sort. Nippon is huge and is awaiting exploration! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~4A.Cutting the Sacred Fruit~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overview--Beginning the game, you need to cut the ripe fruit atop Sakuya's tree in order to restore life back to Kamiki Village. She hints at an ability of yours that may be able to slice the fruit. You'll get used to how the game works in this "tutorial" of sorts while you go find a method of cutting. Be sure to watch the entire introduction to the game. Yes, it's about fifteen minutes long, but this game has an amazing story and you should at least pay attention to how it starts. Issun the wandering artist will be accompanying you, and he's...interesting to listen to, to say the least. Enter the tree through the glowing opening. ====================== ~River of the Heavens~ ====================== A beautiful place, no? Issun talks about camera controls when you enter. The Control Pad moves the camera, while pressing the 2 button will zoom the camera in and out. Holding the 2 button will go into a first person view, and holding the 1 button brings up a map. You can still move while holding the 1 button, so it's useful for getting around. Head forward and Issun will comment on the mirror near the bridge. It's an Origin Mirror, used for saving your game. Step onto the mirror podium and the camera will focus on the mirror itself. Press Z to bring up the list of save files, and overwrite one to save the game. Be sure to save often. Once that's done, cross the bridge. Issun will mention that you can swing the Wiimote to perform a tackle. Using a tackle you can break those pots for a few Yen, but it isn't much so you don't need to waste your time. Remember that tackling while running will make Ammy sprint, so do that when running long distances. Around the corner Issun will notice a chest atop the cliff. It's a bit high, but you can reach it. Wall jumping is quite simple. Perform a jump, and while holding the control stick against the wall, press and hold A again to wall jump. Grab the Holy Bone S from the chest and head to the next bridge. It's been destroyed, though. Issun is luckily capable of just drawing a new bridge with his brush, so now you can cross on over it. He mentions that this is a brush power, and how gods are said to have them. Hmm. Crossing the reformed bridge, Issun notes the would-be river nearby. Since you can't cross that, head up the hill. You will gaze into the starry sky and several blue stars will light up. One of the stars is missing. After Issun fails to draw it, it'll be your turn. Hold the B button and just tap the A button on the left end of the constellation to draw the dot to complete it. The god Yomigami will come out and hand over the power of Rejuvenation, one of the thirteen brush techniques. Head back down the hill and to the small puddle of water. Look straight ahead to the gap in the fence at the other side. Now, draw the river but scribbling all over the pathway. It's not too hard. If done right, water will appear. Now, simply swim across to the other side. Break open the chest by tackling it to grab an Astral Pouch. Fill this with two hundred points of food, and it will fully restore your health once if killed in combat. Once used, you'll need to refill it with food. Now, enter the glowing gateway. ============== ~Cave of Nagi~ ============== Head up the path with stairs ahead of you. There isn't much here except more beautiful scenery. Right before you cross the bridge, look to the right. There should be a small bit of land to the left of the waterfall. Behind the brown rock is a chest with Stray Bead #1 in it. Get back on land and cross the bridge. Further up the path is a small cave. Once you enter it, the path behind you will seal up. The giant statue's sword is broken, so you should know what to do. Scribble over spot where the rest of the sword would be if it wasn't broken in order to restore it. When you do, another constellation will appear in the sky. Fill in the star on the left to make the god Tachigami appear. He bestows upon you the Power Slash brush technique. Issun tells you to practice it on the nearby rock. All you need to do is draw a straight, horizontal line to perform the Power Slash. With the Wiimote, it may be difficult to pull off. Luckily, you can hold the Z button to make the brush be forced to move straight regardless if you move it up or down at all. Move it left to right to form the line, cutting the rock. And good news, Issun is sticking with us! Woo! Huh, the Power Slash cuts, yeah? Looks like we can cut Sakuya's fruit to restore the village. Head back out of the cave. You can use the Power Slash to cut through the wooden gate that once blocked your exit. Follow the arrow back to the entrance of the Cave of Nagi. As you get down the stairs from the shrine, you'll be ambushed by enemies. Time to learn how to battle foes! Swing the Wiimote to attack foes with the Divine Instrument upon your back. You need to time it, however. Swing each time Ammy finishes her attack. If you flail the Wiimote, she will often stall in her attacks. Also, sometimes after striking foes several times they may turn black and white. When this happens they are weak to brush techniques. Use a Power Slash to inflict a lot of damage. Green Imps are pretty weak, and only attack by sticking a long stick out towards you (which will easily miss if you keep moving). Green Imps' floral finisher is the Power Slash. Use it on them as soon as you deal the lethal blow on them to receive a Demon Fang. Collect these for later in the game. Now continue down the path back towards the glowing gate. Just before you reach it you will be attacked by two more Green Imps. Kill them, then enter the gate. ====================== ~River of the Heavens~ ====================== Simply sprint all the way through this area to end up back outside Sakuya's tree. ================ ~Kamiki Village~ ================ Walk out until the fruit is in view. All you need to do is Power Slash it to cut it open, restoring life to the village. And there you go, your objective is complete. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~4B.Exploring Kamiki Village~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overview--Now that the town has been revived, it's time to explore and see what there is to do. There's some ways of getting Praise, and you'll have to find a way to destroy a boulder that blocks the exit of the village. ================ ~Kamiki Village~ ================ The village has been restored, right? It still seems a bit quiet. Anyway, leave the tree area and head down the hill. When you reach the bottom, examine the statue with the Z button. Weird, it looks just like a person. Let's ignore it for a bit. Head up the spiraling hill to the left. When you reach the top, walk out onto the end of the wooden platform. Issun comments that the village isn't what it's supposed to be right now. Run back down the hill and head right when you reach the statue to reach the lower area of the village. When you reach the bottom you'll find a few more statues as well. Examine two of them and Issun will tell you to look at the village again from higher ground to spot what's wrong. Run right back up the hill and to the wooden platform again. Perhaps if the sun was out then maybe the dark curse on Kamiki Village would lift. To draw the sun, as simple as it is, simply draw a circle in the sky. It seems to have worked on the village as the elder, Mr. Orange, will come up to greet Ammy. As he's talking to you, three Green Imps will ambush you on the platform. These guys still aren't terribly hard, so get some free Demon Fangs from them. Once killed, the nearby pond will flow with water again, and you'll earn 20 Praise. When you restore nature to its former beauty, feed animals, and help people, you'll earn Praise. You'll see how it's used a little later, though. Break open the chest to obtain a Seed Feedbag. Feedbags are used to, well, feed animals, earning you Praise. Try it out right now. Walk around the pond and as soon as you reach get near the spiraling hill you should see several sparrows on the ground. Press Z when near them to bring open the Fan Menu, then use the Seed Feedbag. You'll feed the sparrows, as well as earn five Praise. Head back down the hill now. You can talk to Kumoso, the guy between the hills leading to the top and bottom of the village who plays the flute horridly, getting you into a fight with several Green Imps. Complete the fight fast enough and you'll begin a sidequest. You won't understand the sidequest until much later, so this isn't necessary right now. At the bottom of the village you can help the villagers with some of their problems. You'll want to do it for some easy Praise, no less. Talk to Mushi, the kid playing with his dog next to the turnip field. Talk to him a second time and he'll challenge you to beat his dog's record by asking you to dig up all ten turnips without leaving the crop field or getting hit by his mother. To dig a turnip, just stand over one and keep pressing a C button to dig the hole. Mushi's mother is annoying to avoid, so you'll want to stall her. Dab her with some ink by drawing on her and she'll be stunned for several seconds trying to clean it off. This'll make it easy to get all ten turnips. When you dig the last one, an Oddly Shapped Turnip will appear. Bite it with the C button and bring it to Mushi. You'll get 7 Praise as a reward. Now, go visit the houses and talk to the people, including Kushi in the nearby corn field. Whenever you see a green arrow appear over someone's head after talking to them, it means they have more information to give you, so talk again. Keep this in mind throughout the game. To the left of the bridge you will find Mrs. Orange doing her laundry. After talking to her several times she'll mention her drying pole has gone missing. Should be simple to figure out. Draw some lines between the two vertical poles to Rejuvenate the laundry pole. After doing so, talk to her again and she'll wish the sun would appear close to the laundry so it could dry faster. Draw the sun in the sky (it doesn't matter where) to please her, as well as netting 7 Praise. Also, you can talk to her at nighttime to receive Cherry Cakes, which fill up the Astral Pouch a fair amount. Head across the bridge and save at the Ultimate Mirror. Head up the path to find a giant rock blocking the exit, as well as a merchant. Talk to him and a Red Imp and two Green Imps will attack you. Red Imps will occasionally shield themselves with their weapon, making them invulnerable briefly. Otherwise, they aren't much different than Green Imps. Their floral finisher is also the Power Slash. After defeating them, some trees and plants will be restored, and you'll earn 30 Praise. Issun will open up the Fan Menu and turns to the Divine Attributes section. Using Praise you can enhance your stats--Solar Energy, Ink Pots, Astral Pouches, and purse size. I advise going with Solar Energy for now, and later on increasing Ink Pots a lot (increase purse size twice when you get the chance, and don't bother with the Astral Pouch). The merchant tells you to go find Susano, the man that Kushi mentioned if you talked to her. Just follow the red arrow to his house right next to the boulder. Enter his house and fall into the basement via the hole under the large pot (tackle it to break it). Once you find Susano, tackle him to wake him up. Ammy isn't going to accept Susano's excuses to not come with you, so he'll now be riding atop her. Leave his house and head to the boulder. For some fun, feel free to talk to the villagers while Susano is riding you for some comical dialogue. Susano will, uh, run off again to avoid having to break the boulder. Head back to his house to find him sleeping at his training ground behind it. If you talk to him he'll mutter that he's all out of sake. Hmm, perhaps if we get him more? If you talked to Kushi you'd know that she's the one that brews the sake. Kushi can't make sake while her mill's water wheel is broken, though. Scribble all over it to Rejuvenate the broken bit, then head inside the mill. Talk to Kushi and she'll thank you for fixing the mill, and as a reward will drop the Vista of the Gods sake. Bite it to pick it up, then leave and head back to Susano. After approaching him, he'll be ready to start training. Finally! Talk to him to get him to train by slicing straw dummies. Susano isn't exactly a competent swordsman, so when he slices the dummies (and the rock at the end), you'll need to Power Slash them to destroy them instead. Well, whatever builds self-esteem I guess. Repeat this process for the boulder blocking Kamiki's exit. Sakuya will talk to you after Susano runs out of the village. She'll mention that she has several Guardian Saplings across Nippon, watching over and protecting the land. The evil curse around the land has wilted away the power of these trees, though, and they have lost the power they provide to the land as well as Sakuya herself. She'll mark the location of two nearby saplings you need to recover. You have two choices now. You can either leave the village and head to Shinshu Field, or buy some Feedbags and feed a few more animals in Kamiki for some Praise. I advise the latter first, but it's up to you. You probably won't have enough cash, so fighting some Demon Scrolls in Shinshu Field and coming back may be necessary. You'll want to buy some Seeds, Herbs, and Meat. You'll only need four, one, and one respectively for the animals in Kamiki, but it's best to stock up for the road. You'll be seeing a ton of animals. Near the Ultimate Mirror you will find a group of hares. Feed them with herbs to earn 6 Praise. Head back over to Mushi after this and find his dog Hayabusa. Feed him some meat to earn 10 Praise. You can also find a flock of sparrows walking around Mushi's mother in the turnip field, so feed them some seeds for 3 Praise. Continue up the hill and back to where Komuso is playing his flute. Feed the sparrows there for 4 Praise. Finally, head back to Susano's house. Behind the house and to the right of his training grounds are some more sparrows, giving 3 Praise. There's nothing else left in the village, so save the game and head out to Shinshu Field. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~4C.Restoring Shinshu Field~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overview--Shinshu Field is the most beautiful field in Nippon, but it's currently cursed. You'll need to find a way to revive Guardian Saplings in order to restore beauty to the field. =============== ~Shinshu Field~ =============== Once you enter the field, note all the creepy black and red area. Head forward a bit and you'll find the Guardian Sapling that Sakuya mentioned. However, Ammy doesn't have any power that allows her to revive the saplings at the moment, so we can't quite revive the field just yet. The green scrolls you see floating around are Demon Scrolls. Touch one and you will enter a battle with enemies. Defeat them and collect the money they drop. Battling is the best way to earn cash, and if you wanted to feed the animals in Kamiki and ran out of cash, farming through Demon Scroll is a good plan. Also, whatever you do don't wander into the cursed zone. If you do, you will begin to lose ink at a quick rate and a Solar Energy unit appears above Ammy's head. If it runs out, you'll black out and appear back outside the cursed zone and will have lost an entire unit of health. Avoid that. At least ink will refill itself on its own. Just don't go into the cursed zone. Ever. All you can do is head left to Nameless Man's cabin. Head past him and go left and into the cave where the purple mist is coming from--Hana Valley. ============= ~Hana Valley~ ============= Pretty creepy place. It's all dark and musty. There must be something here that can help us, then. Save at the Origin Mirror right from the start. Obtain the Traveler's Charm from the chest up ahead, then cross the bridge to find a group of Imps dancing around a fire. When you approach them you will be flung into a fight with all of them. Once all of them have been |
