The door on the western side is locked by an unusual circular device engraved with ten
symbols. The key to this combination lock is the date on which the Strangling Ritual used
to be held. According to Munakata, this was likely the 13th of December, or 1213. Ogata
decyphered the number system in his notes, revealing that the top symbol is 0 and it
counts anticlockwise through to 9.

the dials had me stumped but i read the above tips, and realised that the japanese read
opposite to western readers so it makes sense.
start at the top and work left for the low numbers and right for the high numbers.
