Let me know at skipwhistle@yahoo.com (note: please don't send in additional weapon formulas for a particular weapon you have chanced across unless you know that your formula is more efficient than the one I've already listed--the goal of this guide is NOT to list every possible weapon combo, which would only confuse things and make the FAQ prohibitively long and convoluted). ***************************************** * Table of Contents * * * * 1. A: In Rogue Galaxy, there is a simple yet bizarrely expansive weapon alchemy system. In short, you feed two weapons to the Frog in your inventory, and if they have both been used to the point where their "Skills" bar is MAX'ed out, and they are the same type of weapon, and the frog likes the combination, he will consume the two old weapons and spit out a new one. There are a huge number of both primary and secondary weapons available for each character. Q: Why are there so many freakin' mistakes in this thing? A: Confession time--after about 2 months of toiling away at these weapons, I finally decided that I would rather choose life, and so I used the official strategy guide to fill in the holes I had left. Unfortunately, it turns out that the weapon information in the strategy guide was 100% WRONG (or geared for the Japanese version, perhaps--I haven't really looked into it). Instant karma got me, and the irony now of course is that I've been cursed ever since with the task of correcting these mistakes as they're sent in by you guys. I don't really mind, though, keep 'em coming--they seem to be mostly fixed now, anyway. Q: Where do I find the frog? A: Just know that he turns up eventually--you won't be able to miss him, no matter how hard you try. Specifically, you'll meet him on Juraika after the boss fight with the giant frog. Q: How many weapons are there in the game? A: Way, way, WAY too many. I've been focusing mainly on Jaster, and so far he's got more weapons than Imelda Marcos has shoes, which is ludicrous. I mean let's face it, this is a fairly typical RPG, and with enough leveling you could kick the crap out of the final boss with a damp kitten. In other words, the stock weapons you get in the stores are more than you need to beat the game. Furthermore, once you're of moderate level, you won't be doing much swinging at all--you'll quickly get in the habit of nuking everybody into oblivion with abilities. But don't let me spoil your fun. Tell you what--concentrate on Jaster. Pick out a nice slugger for him to make, and shine the rest. You'll get more sleep, and maybe meet a nice girl. So how many weapons are there? Well, here's a breakdown: Main Weap. Sub. Weap. Special Weap. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jaster 65 40 41 Kisala 50 35 1 Steve 50 35 Simon 50 35 Zegram 50 35 Lilika 50 35 Jupis 50 35 Deego 50 35 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Total 415 285 42 Grand Total: 742 Q: How much of this do I have to do to satisfy MIO's requirements for 100% completion? A: MIO wants you to analyze 100 weapons, and create 50 new ones. You are getting off extremely easy on this. Oh, I giggle every time I think of how sweetly naive I used to be, back when I thought that making 50 weapons sounded like a lot of work. Q: Is there any reason to make ALL the weapons? A: Lord, I hope not. It would take months, and the tedium is unbearable. I figured I'd sort of take one for the team and grind 'em all out for you guys so we'll know once and for all, but I now realize that maybe I should have taken on something less ambitious, like mapping my own genome with a magnifying glass and tweezers. Q: Will faithfully following everything the frog suggests eventually lead to all the possible weapon combinations? A: That was what I sort of had in mind when I started all this, but it looks like it's just not the case. The frog will simply fail to suggest certain valid combinations which can be discovered elsewhere (or nowhere). I'm talking primarily about Jaster's legendary weapons, but there are plenty of regular meat and potatoes weapons that you can only "discover" through experimentation.Suffice it to say that whoever was in charge of creating weapons for this game obviously had nothing else to do for the entire development cycle. Q: Should I listen to the frog? A: Not really. This guide is far more efficient, and will get you to the weapon you want in the fewest steps. Most of the combinations in the game can be performed with two store-bought weapons, but if you listen to the frog he'll have you doing combines with other weapons that are themselves the product of a combine. But if you're going for 100% completion, don't forget to have the frog do 100 analyses and 50 combines. Q: What's with the Omega, Hyper, and Excelion shards? A: These are used to quickly level the elemental attributes of a weapon. Combine a MAX'ed weapon with an Omega Star to add 10 points to your lowest elemental stat, or a Hyper Crystal to add 10 points to your highest stat. Excelion shards add 5 to all the stats. Note that this doesn't increase the maximum stat an elemental rating can reach, merely its current value. When all of the stats are max'ed out, the weapon will be listed as MASTERED, and further shards will have no effect. I really don't advise wasting your time with the shards--you'll be swapping weapons around doing alchemy too much to sit on one weapon long enough for stat twiddling to be of any use. Just wait until you get the final weapon you're shooting for, and then if you MUST you can fool around a bit, but even then there's really not much point, as your weapon will eventually max out anyway through normal use. Q: Where is Blaster J? Good question. Personally, I found him the same way I find everything when playing one of these games--I chanced across him with blind stupid luck. Obviously there are a lot of people who aren't as blind and stupid as I am, but fret not, someone has sent in a pretty careful analysis of the problem, and here it is. Shadowayex writes: "In order to get this sword you have to talk to Kyralil Bell TWICE (Her information will be put on the Info Edge, If that does not happen, talk to her until it does. That's the only way to get Blaster J to come out). After that, then you have to search. The most common places (and the only places I found) are: 1. Teleport to the teleporter at the end of the Maze of Chaos. Go one room up and one room right. If Blaster J is in this location, he should be in the long pathway connected to this room, approximately halfway through, but I'd go all the way just to make sure. If he's not there try the next location. 2. Again, start at the teleporter at the end of the Maze of Chaos. Go two rooms right (through the first room, then the path, then he should be in the room after the path). If he's not there, try the next one. 3. The last place is way down. Teleport to the teleporter Near the Core. The room back (the one with the two levels) is where I found him the first time. He should be on the lower floor towards the middle. I've never seen him anywhere besides those three places and you have to get the Info on your Info Edge to find him. If he's not in either of those three places and you got the Info, all I can tell you is good luck searching. My theory is that he is in the last of the three places you search, no matter what order you look. It hasn't been proven, considering I haven't even proven those are the only three places he could be. I hope this information helps anyone and everyone who uses it." Q: What's the best way to power-level weapons? A: Well, the key, ironically, is to not use them. Use your abilities. Just zap the hell out of everyone as soon as the battle initiates, and then pause the game and SKIP the ability animation. Everyone falls down dead, you titter with delight, and then repeat the process 15 times. Make sure you do this near a teleporter so you can constantly refresh your AP points if needed. Another good tip is to find a place where you don't get many enemies that have either shields or barriers, which are immune to abilities (until you remove the shield or barrier). I generally spend a lot of time in Mariglenn in Tiatha forest, but that's just me. Dion Starfire says: "a tip to pass along: a great time to upgrade your weapons is right at the start of chapter 7. You finally get to swap characters in and out of the active party, and most of the components you'll need become available in stores" Patrick Square Pants offers the lazy man's approach: "So you start by out going to Rosa to battle (note* EXP will most likely be 1 point per character, because these battles are really weak) First you make sure you have only 5 heal potions and 5 revives with you. Also make sure you have no Sanchez fruit or ANY items that can be acquired in battle (the potions are needed). Set your party's strategy to "go all out" and they will use the potions and revives when they need to (revives really aren't needed, but it's just in case). Now you're ready to "auto battle." How? Rubber band. Simply find a place where you can get battles often. Being to close to a teleporter seems to ward away battles, so make sure your far away from any. Take the rubber band and have it hold both analog sticks toward the middle of the controller (the red light on the controller). This will make your character run in an infinite circle. Your two AI characters will fight while you continue running in circles. You friends aren't smart, so they will get hurt sand tortoises when they forget to knock the shields off. Luckily, they don't even get hurt much there, and after many, many battles, when they finally need potions, they will use them automatically due to the strategy "go all out." The reason you don't want many potions or Sanchez fruit with you is because you pick them up all the time. The problem is, after picking up a potion(s) when you already have 50 (or fruit when you have 99), a message will come up asking you to discard or use the item(s). This will stop the auto battling like a brick wall. What I like to do is write down how much money, exp, weapon mastery, etc, I have before starting. You'd be surprised at how much money you can get while you're not even home. Since the battles yield 1 exp per, you can actually track how many battles you've done by your exp. Also note that this is the most non-tedious way to get all the monster hunting done in Rosa (or anywhere weak for that matter). It may sound complex, but it's very simple once you understand it. And how can you beat free money and weapon levels when you're not home? ^_^ Summary: 1. Make sure strategy is set to "go all out" 2. Make sure you have no more (and preferably no less) than 5 heal potions and 5 revives 3. Make sure you store all items that you could pick up in battle 4. Equip weapons you want Mastered (or just maxed) 5. Use a rubber band to have you character running in a circle in a place you can battle" Me again--note that this technique is only really practical if you're around to switch weapons. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ And without further ado, here's the list. The weapons are sorted by character, then by type (primary or secondary), then by the level they can first be used, and finally, by their power. Note that I haven't included elemental bonus information--I suppose I should at some point for the sake of completion, but for now I really don't see the point. Note that the game makes no distinction between the varying types of enhanced weapons (omega, sigma, S, +, Z, etc)--it considers them all to be of type "EX", and this guide follows the same convention. "EX" weapons are marked with an asterisk (*). Many of the weapons can be obtained through a variety of different methods, via combinations, or from chests, or as rewards for Quarry Hunting, or made in the factory, or bought from stores, etc. I do my best to list the most efficient method/combination FIRST, then other methods I happen to know of. That said, what's efficient for a high-lvl player may be out of reach for someone lower level. For example, if you're at the end-game, and are just wandering around cleaning up loose ends, you'll generally just want to warp over to a store to buy a particular weapon for a combine, but if you're lower level and haven't reached that store yet (or done the factory routine for it, or whatever), you may still be able to produce that weapon the long way, through other combines.
