Listen to what they say before u make ur move ! . they will give u tips on what there next move is gonna be ( like troy sayin " yield to my sword = normal attack ( select special attack ) and " Prepare urself = special ( guard it ) .
they can be life savers . learn to make them count . cause if used properly they can shorten a duel to a few rounds ! . and can kill ppl that u should not be able to ( 1st duel for example )

it may take a few rounds to know them . but when u do u will never take damage again ( or u shouldnt ! )
