How do get to where Ion is in this mountain to save him?

spent hours looking for the absorbtion gate (crossing out the sephiroth, EVERY SINGLE ONE, that I had rechecked) then it occured to me that it might not be a sephiroth. Ouch. Still don't know where it is though. HELP ME.

How do you get through the part in the abandon factory with the 4 oil cans (3 of them are in a pyramid and there's one emtpy can yew have to move around), how do you get past that part?

The absorbtion gate: first go in the middle of the world map during game play, then go north or south, to the ice island. the absorbtion gate should be on the ice island.
