I finally took the time to write this guide up after weeks of lying forgotten in my drawer. Hopefully it is useful to you as it is a pain in the butt to type up. I really enjoy this game and I hope this is reflected in the quality of the guide. It is impossible to write an exactly step-by-step for this game, though I have done my best. One last thing, yet again my keyboard is playing up, so the missing keys to look for are r, z and sometimes the spacebar. Hope this FAQ is useful to you. If you have any questions or queries please consult the Contact Information section first. Thank you. - Rockin N Deep =============================================================================== + + + + + GAME BASICS + + + + + [GABC] =============================================================================== ========== CONTROLS ========== Select action..................................X Cancel action...........................Triangle Follow Sim................................Square Move Cursor....................Left analog stick Select Change Sim..........................L2/R2 Zoom/Rotate...................Right analog stick Speed up time.................................R1 Pause.........................................L1 Change wall view...............................O Career.............................Left on D-pad Relationship......................Right on D-pad Motives..............................Up on D-pad Personality........................Down on D-pad Menu buy/build.............................Start =========== GAME BARS =========== During the game there are 4 different status bars which help you get through the game. These are- ============= MOTIVES BAR ============= This bar tells you what your Sim needs these things and how to do them are- -------- Hunger -------- Well I think this is pretty obvious, your Sims hunger bar is low, so feed them. To do this order a pizza, cook a meal, have a barbeque. Note that the more expensive the cooker and fridge you have, the better feed your Sim will be. If you have the cheapest cooker and fridge you'll need 2-3 meals a day. With the most expensive, you will only need 1 and maybe a snack. --------- Hygiene --------- Your hygiene bar is low, this means you stink you bum! Solved by taking a bath, having a shower and cleaning your teeth. This will work in the same principal as above. If you get a cheap bath, you will be cleaned less effectively. My recommendation would be to buy the Sonic shower as soon as possible. -------- Energy -------- Energy bar too low? Then go to bed, as this is the most effective method. Buy the modern mission bed rather than the more expensive love bed, as it has a higher energy rating. If you put on the aroma machine at the same time, that should help towards your energy. But if going to bed is not for you what are the alternatives? Well taking a nap on the couch isn't a bad idea, or even better on the recliner. Still not good enough? Use the espresso machine to help your energy stats, though this will make you want the toilet. One more tip- go and poke your finger in the bug zapper. This will give you a jolt of energy, but lower your comfort bar. If your energy bar is entirely depleted, then you will fall asleep on the spot. -------- Social -------- Ever felt like your all alone? Need help? Phone a friend and talk on the phone (not very effective), or invite them over to chill out (do this). When they arrive, talk to them, play pool, basketball, dance to music or sit and have a chat in the hot tub. All of these will put up your social stats nicely. Sometimes, people will just knock at your door randomly. Take this opportunity to socialise if you have the time. Note that if you call your friends just to talk only do it once for each, as they might get a bit narked off, this does not count for your mother. One more thing parties are always good occasions to socialise. --------- Comfort --------- Are you comfort bars taking a battering? Rest on chairs, the couch, recliner, hot tub, bed, showers, baths, tree swing, beverage cooler- is this enough for you? Sleeping in the Vibromatic Heart Bed is probably the best way, but sitting an chilling in the hot tub is moderately effective. --------- Bladder --------- When this bar gets too low, get to a toilet quick, otherwise there might be a cleaning job on. A job option may be an automatic flushing toilet, suitable for you lazy bums out there. Also, this toilet will boost comfort. ----- Fun ----- Guitar, TV, VR goggles, pin ball, basketball, pool, stereo for starters. No? Then how about PC, swimming, jogging, chess? Still no? Painting, sculpting, telescopes any good? There are plenty of ways to make you Sim happy. I find that the VR goggles, pool with friends and the plasma TV are good methods. But there are two others that are even better. First of all start a game of pool with friends. Then stick the stereo on at the same time (make sure the stereo is nearby), this should put your happiness up a good way. The second is to put on the stereo and to dance with friends- a guaranteed winner. ------ Room ------ This is not controlled by anything physical your Sim does. This stat is improved by your Sims surroundings. Buy and place room-boosting items around your home. A few of the more effective ones are- faux bearskin rug, white rhino re-enactment, china vase and the grandfather clock. Also flowers, plants and lighting will help. The aromaster machine one the third setting will greatly help. ============= CAREERS BAR ============= Sims need enhanced skills in order to fulfil goals as lofty as career promotions or as simple as not setting the kitchen on fire while attempting to cook dinner. The career panel, provides details on your Sim's current employment status, salary and basic skills. Your Sim can learn new skills in the following fields- --------- Cooking --------- You will need to learn this before you try and cook otherwise you will probably die prematurely and take your house down with it. Study a book from the bookcase to increase your cooking skill points. ------------ Mechanical ------------ Mechanical will probably needed in every career so get used to it. With this you an also repair broken items around your home, rather than phoning a handyman. To learn mechanical study at the bookcase or use the workbench. ---------- Creative ---------- If you want a career in music or entertainment, then you'd better get used to this. Paint on the easel, play the piano or guitar or use the carving block to achieve skill points. This one has the added bonus of providing fun too. ------ Body ------ This one is hard work on your energy meter, though will also provide a little fun. Use the benchpress machine, treadmill o why not take a relaxing swim? ------- Logic ------- Want to become the next Einstein? This is the area you want. Does not really specialise in any career, though is useful. To get the points in this one, use the chess table or the telescope, but beware. Use the telescope too often and you might get a visit from an alien....whhooooo... ---------- Charisma ---------- Good of outgoing Sims, if you want to make it big you need to be a good public speaker. Improve this stat by speaking in the mirror. ================== RELATIONSHIP BAR ================== Your Sims friends are listed on this bar. Below the face of your friend, is a number that indicated how pleased you are with them. Red bad. Green good. These fiends are important to Sims as they can help you gain promotions. Also get friendly enough with someone and why not get married? ================= PERSONALITY BAR ================= See the below Create-A-Sim section for information. =============================================================================== + + + + + CREATE A SIM + + + + + [CRSM] =============================================================================== The first thing I would like to say is that you should expect big updates on this section. Now, you will have to create a Sim to play Get A Life Mode and Play The Sims mode. The first thing you will need to enter is your Sims family name. Cue the joke names mentioning no names- Butz, Dover, Normous. Then your Sims first name (Seymour, Ben and Dixy). You will then move onto the personal section, in which you will choose your Sims personal qualities. You are given just 25 points to award yourself in the way you feel appropriate. You have 5 bars to fill, a maximum of 10 per bar; Messy/Neat Shy/Outgoing Lazy/Active Serious/Playful Mean/Nice Alternatively, if you select a star sign, then those qualities will be chosen for you. Here are those star signs and their personal qualities; ------- ARIES ------- Messy 5/10 Neat Shy 8/10 Outgoing Lazy 6/10 Active Serious 3/10 Playful Mean 3/10 Nice -------- TAURUS -------- Messy 5/10 Neat Shy 5/10 Outgoing Lazy 3/10 Active Serious 8/10 Playful Mean 4/10 Nice -------- GEMINI -------- Messy 4/10 Neat Shy 7/10Outgoing Lazy 8/10 Active Serious 3/10 Playful Mean 3/10 Nice -------- CANCER -------- Messy 6/10 Neat Shy 3/10 Outgoing Lazy 6/10 Active Serious 4/10 Playful Mean 6/10 Nice ----- LEO ----- Messy 4/10 Neat Shy 10/10 Outgoing Lazy 4/10 Active Serious 4/10 Playful Mean 3/10 Nice ------- VIRGO ------- Messy 9/10 Neat Shy 2/10 Outgoing Lazy 6/10 Active Serious 3/10 Playful Mean 5/10 Nice ------- LIBRA ------- Messy 2/10 Neat Shy 8/10 Outgoing Lazy 2/10 Active Serious 6/10 Playful Mean 7/10 Nice --------- SCORPIO --------- Messy 6/10 Neat Shy 5/10 Outgoing Lazy 8/10 Active Serious 3/10 Playful Mean 3/10 Nice ------------- Sagittarius ------------- Messy 2/10 Neat Shy 3/10 Outgoing Lazy 9/10 Active Serious 7/10 Playful Mean 4/10 Nice ----------- CAPRICORN ----------- Messy 7/10 Neat Shy 4/10 Outgoing Lazy 1/10 Active Serious 8/10 Playful Mean 5/10 Nice ---------- AQUARIUS ---------- Messy 4/10 Neat Shy 4/10 Outgoing Lazy 7/10 Active Serious 6/10 Playful Mean 6/10 Nice -------- PISCES -------- Messy 5/10 Neat Shy 3/10 Outgoing Lazy 7/10 Active Serious 3/10 Playful Mean 7/10 Nice If you are basing your Sim on yourself, then I'd advise you not to choose your own star sign, as it probably won't help you in the game, with the skills your Sim has. This is the way I usually use my points: Messy 4/10 Neat Shy 2/10 Outgoing Lazy 3/10 Active Serious 8/10 Playful Mean 8/10 Nice The reasoning behind this is that you don't really need to be that tidy after the second house- the maid will do it. If you have an outgoing Sim, then your Social bar will drop faster if you don't see people. So have a shy Sim and you won't have to keep calling your friends all the time. If you have an active Sim, then you will need more sleep, if you have a lazy one, you won't. If you have a playful Sim, then your bar will quicker, an also, as playing is an easy task, you will probably be doing it a lot. Finally, if you have a nice Sim, then you will get on with people better and not fall out with them. This is just my personal Sim, different people will want different things. Also in this section you will need to choose your gender and age (if applicable). In the next section you will need to choose your body so to speak. First of all select your skin colour. Then your body composition (skinny, muscley, fat). =============================================================================== + + + + + BASIC HINTS AND TIPS + + + + + [BHTP] =============================================================================== * Hire a maid on every level after you have unlocked her. * Hire a handyman to fix broken items when you have unlocked him. * If you stare into the telescope for about 3 nights running, you will be abducted by aliens, and you will return hours later with completely different personal qualities. * When your Sim is getting changed, hold L1 to pause, but your Sim will still change. * When you need friends, they count as family friends, i.e. your wife's friends will count as yours- use this your advantage. * Always answer the phone, as sometime you are given money. * Don't have a phone in your bedroom, otherwise you will be woken up every time it rings. * If your Sim dies you will get game over, as well as a visit from the Grim Reaper =============================================================================== + + + + + THE WALKTHROUGH - GET A LIFE MODE + + + + + [WKTU] =============================================================================== This is get a life mode, a new feature and a change from the PC version. You must complete different tasks and upgrade your living conditions, so... off you go. =============================================================================== + + + + + HOUSE 1 - MONEY FROM MOM + + + + + [NMFM] =============================================================================== This house starts as you are having a day dream. You are dreaming that you have a hot supermodel girlfriend in a huge mansion and a hut tub. Just as you are about to get to 'business', you awake from your day dream to find your self unemployed living in you mothers no bedroomed house. So your life as a Sim begins here. ======== Goals ======== 1) Borrow $800 from your mother. 2) Make dinner without starting a fire. 3) Fix the TV. 4) Maintain the house value. 5) Get a job. ================= Doing The Goals ================= --------------------------------------- GOAL 1 - BORROW $800 FROM YOUR MOTHER --------------------------------------- There are a few ways to complete this task, but I will tell you about the one which I think works best. The best way (I feel) is to fix the TV, then ask your mom for $400. Then cook a meal (for you or her), then ask her for another $400. For more information on those tasks see below. Make sure that your mom is happy when you ask her, with at least 1 segment of green on the mood bar- the more the better. If you still need money, sell off the stuff in the house, but be warned, this will take value from the house, and your mom will ask you for the difference when you leave. Not an ideal start to life on you own. For this you will have received The Museum (2 player game). ---------------------------------------------- GOAL 2 - MAKE DINNER WITHOUT STARTING A FIRE ---------------------------------------------- don't just go over to the fridge and click 'Serve Dinner', as this will probably result in your premature death and a swift visit to A+E. Go to the bookcase- DUMBO! and click 'Study Cooking' and study up on cookery until you have earned at least one Cooking Skill Point. When you feel that you have ample experience, go over to the fridge and cook a meal. If you don't feel very confident, just cook a small meal. If you do have confidence then click Serve' 'Dinner or what ever meal it is. When you have completed this goal, you will unlock the Whifferpuff Master Gold. --------------------- GOAL 3 - FIX THE TV --------------------- Same goes here- if you don't want permanent brain damage from electrocution. Go to the bookcase and click 'Study Mechanical'. When you have gained at least one Mechanical Skill Point, go to the TV and press 'Repair'. Whilst you are doing this, don't mind if your Sim receives a few minor shocks, it's normal, honest... When you have done this goal you will unlock the Charismaster Vanity Table. ------------------------------- GOAL 4 - MAINTAIN HOUSE VALUE ------------------------------- The house is worth $23660 when you start. If it drops at all, as I said before, she'll ask you for the difference. -------------------- GOAL 5 - GET A JOB -------------------- This is the last task which you need to complete. The paper boy will bring a paper to your mail box at around 9 o'clock. Go and get the paper to find a job. The paper will provide you with 3 job options per day. That means if you want to get the 24 hour bonus (see below) you must take one of these jobs. For information on career paths see the CAREER PATHS section. For finishing this task you will unlock the PerspirAction Executive Treadmill. ============== Unlocked Items ============== The Museum (2 player game)- Borrow $800 from you mom. Whifferpuff Master Gold- Cook dinner without starting a fire. Charismaster Vanity Table- Fix the TV. PerspirAction Executive Treadmill- Get a job. Complete house in 24 hours or less to receive TA TA TA DA DA DA... =============================================================================== + + + + + HOUSE 2 - REALITY BITES + + + + + [RLTB] =============================================================================== Once you have done all the goals in house 1, your, mom will admit that you are finally ready to fly the nest. She says that she's organised a house for you to rent. This one. The only trouble is, is that it is a real dump. Sort it. ======= Goals ======= 1)Clean up the house. 2)Fix the broken appliances. 3)Upgrade your abode. 4)Get promoted to career level 2 and career level 3. ================= Doing The Goals ================= ----------------------------- GOAL 1 - CLEAN UP THE HOUSE ----------------------------- Do exactly what it says- clean up the house. And you may o may not have noticed that it's a right state. Do the cleaning after work- make this priority before other non-essential activities. This may take you a few days and you'll have to sacrifice some of your happiness and stats, but don't worry- these can be sorted out later. When the house is entirely mess-free, you will now be able to hire a daily maid, (I would strongly recommend this). ------------------------------------ GOAL 2 - FIX THE BROKEN APPLIANCES ------------------------------------ When you move in you will notice that there are a few items that are f****d to use the technical term. These items are the computer, the espresso machine, the TV and the toilet. First of all, I'd recommend that you use the toilet, as it won't be too long before you need wee-wee. Do this as soon as you enter the house. Next you might want your Sim to have some fun, so fix the TV and computer, though these don't need to be done until after the major-scale spring cleaning. The espresso is a non-essential task and can be done when ever you find the time. When you have fixed all of the appliances, you will now be able to call a handyman to fix your broken items. ---------------------------- GOAL 3 - UPGADE YOUR ABODE ---------------------------- The starting value of the house when you arrive is $34561 you must increase this to $35711. What could be simpler? Invest in some worth while items such as a better table, couch, TV etc. Need extra cash? Sell the next-to-useless Vanity Mirror and use it to buy some worth-while items. Oh, and apparently fixing the broken items increases house value, happy spending! -------------------------------------------- GOAL 4 - GET PROMOTED TO CAREER LEVELS 2+3 -------------------------------------------- One major tip that will work throughout the game- go to work in a good mood, (not as difficult as a real day I'm sure). This will help you gain promotions. But the same goes the other way, if you go to work in a bad mood too often, you run the risk of demotion. Now for your first promotion, you will need no skill points or family friends- no matter what job you have. So toddle off in a happy mood and you should earn promotion, if not keep at it. A good tip would be to put plants and shrubs around the front path, so your Sims happiness won't dip at the last minute. The next promotion is a little harder, though it's not all that hard. Look at you career bar to see what you need to achieve to get promotion. The required skill points are highlighted in yellow. Your required number of friends (unlikely that you need any) are denoted next to the blue smiley face, i.e. 0/1 means that you need 1 friend. If you don't know how to gain the needed skill points see the game basics section. ============== Unlocked Items ============== Maid- Clean up the house. Repairman- Fix the broken appliances. Electric Insect Control System- Upgrade your abode. Burp 'N' Slurp Beverage Cooler- Promotion to career level 2. Teppan Yaki Table- Promotion to career level 3. The Frat House- Being invited to move in by Dudley or Mimi. If you complete the house in four days or less you will receive *unveils curtain*.... ============ OTHER TIPS ============ * Make friends with anyone who calls at the house- you'll need them in the next level. * Dudley/Mimi will visit and complain daily until all tasks are completed ungrateful b*****d. * Hire a maid via the phone under 'Services' as soon as you have unlocked her. * Hire a handyman if anything gets broken (when you've unlocked him). =============================================================================== + + + + + HOUSE 3 - PARTY ANIMALS + + + + + [PTAL] =============================================================================== When you have done all of the goals in house 2, Dudley decides that you are not cool enough to move in with him. But as soon as you arrive at his house, Bingo will tell you that you made a mistake, and he's probably right. Not one of my favourite levels, as it may prove a sticking point in you house progression. ======= GOALS ======= 1) Get promoted to level 4+5. 2) Upgrade your abode. 3) Throw a raging party. 4) Move out with one of Dudley's/Mimi's friends at the party. ================= Doing The Goals ================= ------------------------------------ GOAL 1 - GET PROMOTED TO LEVEL 4+5 ------------------------------------ You'll more than likely need friends to earn promotions now. Use you phone to contact your friends you met in the last house, or if your still on good terms with your mom, she'll now be counted as a family friend. Also you know by now, the yellow highlighted skill points age required to earn promotion. Don't forget to keep that happiness up! Do the same for you next promotion and you'll be laughing. If you need help on how to earn the skill points see the Game Basic section. For completing these goals you will unlock the Strip Poker Table and the Libidinex Spa System (love hut tub). ---------------------------- GOAL 2 - UPGRADE YOU ABODE ---------------------------- For this you need to take the house value to $54700. This money should be spent on worthwhile party items. Some suggestions on that front are- an outdoor toilet to keep the guests happy, a good quality stereo on the patio (as well as inside), a liquor bar and a beverage cooler. Don't forget the must have at all parties and that is the Aromaster Whifferpuff Gold and then set it to the third setting. Oh and the VR goggles won't go amiss. Some other room boosting items such as paintings and rugs would be recommended. For upgrading your abode you will unlock the Sweetsway Tree Swing ------------------------------- GOAL 3 - THROW A RAGING PARTY ------------------------------- Once you have done goals 1 and 2 you are well on your way. The next thing to do is to speak to a potential party guest. Get Dudley/Mimi to call one of their friends up so you can get friendly with them, ready for the next goal. I would suggest that you friendship with them is at least 80. Now you are ready to party! Take the day off work to cook up a couple of good meals (Dudley/Mimi too), also ordering a pizza might be a good idea. Also make sure you have made up the dinks on the liquor bar and the beverage cooler. Also make sure the house is tidy. Now when this is done change into your formal dress and get Dudley/Mimi to throw the party on the phone. Click your TV, stereo's, bug zapper on. Don't forget the Whifferpuff on the third setting. Greet the guests as they arrive, and they will enter the house and grab some food. Once everyone has eaten, hop in the hot-tub and others should follow you. If not press 'call over' and then they should come. Wait a few minutes and around now a sign should come up saying Congratulations! This party rocks! If this is the case, look at the next goal. If not just keep it going until people start to leave or the police break it up- then you know your party is a downer. If you have failed, repeat the above steps. For completing this goal, you will unlock the two player game The Motel. ----------------------------------------------------- GOAL 4 - MOVE OUT WITH ONE OF DUDLEYS/MIMIS FRIENDS ----------------------------------------------------- Now, go over to the friend you made previously and just socialise for a minute or so, then press 'Ask to be roommate'. If they say yes then great, if they say they don't know you well enough talk to them more then ask them again. If they say your party sucks, then you'll have to throw another better party. When you have done this goal, you will move on to the next house. ============== UNLOCKED ITEMS ============== Strip Poker Table- Promotion to career level 4. Libidinex Spa System- Promotion to career level 5. Sweetsway Tree Swing- Upgrade your abode. The Motel (2 player game)- Throw a raging party. The Park (2 player game)- Greet and feed Bobo the bum. Complete the house in 8 days or less to unlock the ============ OTHER TIPS ============ * The Park is unlocked on the last house anyway, so if you don't catch Bobo don't worry. He'll appear on all levels from now on too. * You may like the idea of a strip poker table at the party. * Don't let your roommate die or get the sack if you don't want a big GAME OVER sign. * Hire a mid at you earliest convenience. =============================================================================== + + + + + HOUSE 4 - HOT TO TROT + + + + + [HTTT] =============================================================================== Finally, you have found your self a new, less grumpy room mate. This house is the first really cool one. Filled with 'retro' gear and it's very smart. ======= GOALS ======= 1) Get promoted to career level 6+7. 2) Upgrade your abode. 3) Throw another raging party. 4) Try to score with a party guest. ================= Doing The Goals ================= -------------------------------------------- GOAL 1 - GET PROMOTED TO CAREER LEVELS 6+7 -------------------------------------------- You know how things work by now, check your careers bar and get the required number of friends |
