Quest - Try to rise to the top by seeking out and racing rival drivers on
Tokyo's highways.
Quick Race - Attempt to defeat 100 rivals without regaining your SP!
Time attack - Race through a particular course as fast as possible.
Free Run - Freely drive around Tokyo's highways.
Versus (VS) - Race against friend (2 Player split screen).

Welcome to the game guide. Here you will learn everything you need to know about
this game and how to win with your car at top performance.

Starting your quest
------------------------------------
Welcome to your very own quest. The first step is to buy yourself a car. Many
people say that it is best to buy a lower class car and purchase upgrades. I say
no to that. IMHO, you should immediately buy an A-Class car. The game will be A
LOT easier if you do. With an A-Class car you can beat just about everyone with
no upgrades on your car. Now, get out there and put some miles on your brand new
car.

Upgrading your car
-----------------------------------
Welcome to the upgrades shop. Here you will learn about upgrades, what they do,
and which ones are best for your car. Let's start with Power-up tunes shall
we...
Engine Upgrades -
This upgrade will improve your horsepower and torque. There are 7 engine levels.
You will unlock the seventh level after traveling a certain amount of miles.
Muffler and air cleaner -
This upgrade will also improve your horsepower and make your car lighter,
eventually. There are 8 levels of upgrades here. Again, unlock the last levels
by traveling a certain amount of miles.
Let's move on to the Drive Train now.
Transmission upgrades -
Upgrading the transmission will help you accelerate faster. Your car will also
get lighter with the later upgrades.
Clutch and differential -
This upgrade will help your car shift through the gears easier and will make
your car lighter.
Suspension -
This upgrade will give your car better overall handling and better cornering and
will make your car lighter.
Tires, brakes, and wheels -
Upgrading your tires will improve the handling, acceleration, and cornering of
your car. The brakes will obviously help you brake better, and the wheels are
just for how you want your car to look.
Now let's look at the body tune.
Body tune -
This upgrade will shave off close to one hundred pounds on your car. A roll cage
is installed into your car also.
Let's head over to the aero tune section.
Aero tune -
Add various cosmetic parts that will lighten it and improve your car's down
force.
The next upgrade is the dress up tune.
Dress Up Tune -
Change the grill, headlights, and horn on your car. This will help make your car
lighter.
You know all the different types of upgrades, but there is still a little more
information about them.
WHEN TO UPGRADE YOUR CAR -
So you don't know when you are supposed to upgrade your car. Well I will help
you out. The best time to upgrade is often. After you come back from racing and
you have a load of cash just sitting around, UPGRADE! If you have a little extra
cash, UPGRADE!
UPGRADES DON'T ALWAYS GIVE YOU POWER, BUT STILL HELP YOU -
Sometimes when you upgrade you won't gain more horsepower, but you might shave
off some extra pounds. This is still very helpful. Having a lighter car will
allow you to accelerate faster, and help you corner.
KEEP YOUR CAR BALANCED -
Make sure your car is always balanced in upgrades. This will help your car to
perform at its best. Try to buy the same level upgrades. If you buy a level 3
engine, and a level 6 muffler, you won't be getting as much power as you could
be. If you buy a level 5 engine, buy a level 5 muffler. It's as simple as that.

The first half
-----------------------------------
Alright, so now you know what kind of car to buy and how to upgrade it. Now
let's learn about the first half of your quest...
During this half there are gangs of street racers wandering the streets looking
for a challenge. After beating a certain amount of rivals the 13 Devils will
begin to challenge you. The leader of the 13 Devils is Speed King. He will
challenge you after beating the gang leaders and all the 13 Devils before him.
He drives a very fast Nissan Skyline that will smoke your car. The easiest way
to beat him is to wait for him to mess up. I got lucky and he crashed into the
wall allowing me to get far enough ahead of him to win. After you win the
credits will role but you're not finished yet...

The second half
----------------------------------
Alright, you beat Speed King, made a whole ton of money, and are ready for more.
After I beat Speed King I bought his car, making everything a lot easier, but if
you don't want to, that's fine. Let's get a little idea of the second half of
your quest.
There are lots of new gangs roaming the highways looking for some action. There
are also new areas of the highways opened up. After beating some leaders you
will begin to be challenged by The Zodiac gang. These guys are like the 13
Devils but faster and have better techniques. After you defeat the first 12
Zodiacs the leader, White Charisma, will challenge you. White Charisma is like
Speed King only with an incredible hulk side to him. He is more aggressive, much
faster, but is quite stupid. In my opinion he messes up more than Speed King. I
was lucky and beat him the second time. After you beat him, you will again make
a ton of money and the credits will role, BUT IT'S NOT OVER!!!!

The Wanderers
------------------------------------
You may have noticed throughout your quest that there is a gang of wanderers
called, "The Wanderers". Beating them all takes a lot of time. In order to race
them, you must meet certain requirements. Sometimes that includes having a
certain license plate, a certain car, or it must be a certain time of day. Right
now I don't have the time to list them all and their requirements, so check out
the wanderers FAQ at GameFAQS for more info.
------------------------------------
The Final Challenge
------------------------------------
So, you beat White Charisma, won a lot of money, purchased a lot of upgrades,
and beat all 399 rivals. But that leaves one rival left. He has no name, so we
will call him #400. He is INCREDIBLY fast. He has a car that will leave you
smelling his exhaust about a mile behind. He drives the fastest car in the game,
the Datsun. Believe me, this guy is fast, but his handling pretty much sucks.
Just wait until he spins out of control on a corner. Hopefully you will stay
ahead of him and win. You better have a very very fast car in your garage to
beat this guy. Now, the credits will role, but this time... IT'S OVER! Don't
cry, there are still things to do, like time attack, versus mode, or quick race.
Have fun in your new Datsun...
