Walkthrough - Xenosaga Episode ll Xenosaga DatabaseXenosaga Database by Ricky Alvarez YOU THERE! HALT! THE FOLLOWING CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR XENOSAGA I, II, III, IV, V, AND VI. SOME OF THESE EPISODES HAVEN'T BEEN RELEASED, BUT MUCH EDUCATED SPECULATION IS MADE IN THIS DATABASE, SO SOME ASSUMPTIONS MAY BECOME FUTURE SPOILERS. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Introduction ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is the Xenosaga Database, a fanmade database for the Xenosaga series. It was first created during Episode II, when Monolith decided it would be a great idea to remove the database even though the story got a lot more complicated. Therefore, I decided to make my own for Episode II. However, I realized that it would be much more useful if I updated Episode I's database with Episode II knowledge--but why stop there? I've decided to revamp this database every time a new episode comes out, regardless of whether or not future episodes have a database feature, since it is often undetailed and very strangely secretive, even after completing revealing events. So, enjoy; I hope you find this useful. Terms of Use ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Feel free to use this as a reference, but I don't want to see this database copied in its entirety anywhere else regardless of whether you give me credit or not. I'm not gonna hunt anyone down, but if you do break these terms, I wish upon you a most agonizing hangnail. These websites have received permission to host this Database: - GameFAQs - Neoseeker Version History ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 3/19/05 - Fixed many errors, added some entries, updated some stuff. 3/14/05 - Put in all Episode II entries I know of, updated and corrected some Episode I entries. Added a Table of Contents for ease of use and created a Credits section as well. 3/13/05 - Finished the revamping of the Episode I database. Will be adding Episode II-specific entries in next update. Credits ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I write everything here from scratch, but without the following sources I'd be totally clueless: - The GameFAQs Xenosaga II message board, which is just an unlimited source of information. - MightyCat for notifying me of Wikipedia's usefulness, and Wikipedia itself. - FScell's Episode I Database transcripts; without them this would have taken a LOT longer. - tamashii's Xenosaga II Game Script. - jinxhaas' Miltian Conflict timeline. - X CubeStation, Ryuto, the void, Moonstone 04, and RPGC Cidolfas for pointing out many errors and making many suggestions. So thank you thank you thank you to those people! Final Thought ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you spot any errors, be they typos or storyline-related errors, please inform me as soon as possible! You may contact me at aridity at gmail for those purposes. If you'd like to plain discuss and speculate, however, don't e-mail me for that; make a topic about it on GameFAQs' Xenosaga II message board. I am human, not a Realian; I will always make mistakes. But I try my best. Now, on to the database! G E T !! . #Abel --------------------------------------------------------------------- A character from Xenosaga I, seen only for a split second. He is the boy who is playing with blocks during the ending, while everything is going crazy; chaos' hands light up, Nephilim looks up, Compass of Order's going insane, KOS-MOS is a blazin'--BOOM, ABEL! Abel seems to have special powers because if you take a good look at his blocks, they are defying physics. Telekinesis, maybe. The name 'Abel' is a reference to a character from Xenogears, but the characters look identical in both Xenogears and Xenosaga. Whether or not this is relevant at all is unknown. #Abel's Ark --------------------------------------------------------------------- A huge, structural Gnosis that appears at the end of Episode II. It's Wilhelm's favorite subject. Abel's Ark itself seems to have been formed by some kind of solar system, and some--myself included--speculate that it is the solar system that holds Earth/Lost Jerusalem, or in other words, the Milky Way. This is unconfirmed, though. Either way, Abel's Ark takes the Original Zohar. I speculate that just as the Zohar emulator that was in Cathedral Ship created Cathedral Ship, the Original Zohar that goes into Abel's Ark created Abel's Ark. How the Ark is related to the character, Abel, is unknown, but in Xenogears 'Abel's Ark' referred to a (literal) ship that would lead the characters to God. #Abyss --------------------------------------------------------------------- Although Juli Mizrahi refers to them as 'the abyss', there are in fact two black holes residing near Old Miltia. They were created fourteen years ago during the Miltian Conflict by Albedo's partial contact with U-DO, which resulted in a medium-scale space-time anomaly. In Xenosaga II the Ormus Stronghold appears between the black holes, and after it is conquered it disappears, and so do the black holes. For this reason it can be assumed that Ormus had some kind of control over the black holes. #Acute Neurosis Treatment Facility --------------------------------------------------------------------- This is an establishment on Old Miltia where Shion's mother was being treated for whatever was wrong with her. Neurosis facilities treat mental illnesses, not physical ones. The Song of Nephilim used to reside next to this facility. #Aird --------------------------------------------------------------------- Aird is an attack that Issachar, Zebulun, and Simeon can use. I mention it because it is very similar to Xenogears' Aerods, or 'Animum Ether Response Offensive Drones'. It's unknown what Aird stands for, if it even is an acronym. #Albedo Piasora --------------------------------------------------------------------- BIRTHDATE: T.C. 4741 AGE: 26 'Albedo' is in fact U.R.T.V. Unit #667's nickname. The nickname was not given to him by Dr. Yuriev, his creator, as he and his friends (Rubedo and Nigredo) seem to be discouraged to call each other by their nicknames. As a clone of Yuriev, Albedo seems to have inherited the man's insanity; he is extremely protective over Rubedo in particular, so much so that he's willing to beat people up over him, boys and girls alike. This protectiveness most likely stems from the fact that Albedo and Rubedo were conjoined twins upon birth; they were joined by Albedo's heart, which rested in Rubedo's right chest. They were separated soon after. For unknown reasons, Yuriev altered Albedo's body somehow so that it had infinite telomerase, which is an enzyme that enables regeneration. In other words, Albedo is immortal. Once the Miltian Conflict begins, the U.R.T.V.s are sent to the Song of Nephilim where U-DO is to appear, and when it does, Albedo starts freaking out because he's afraid. When Rubedo severs the link, Albedo is infected by U-DO, and because he is immortal, becomes one with U-DO instead of being killed by it. Albedo stirs up trouble by knocking Nigredo down with his newly found powers, but what he does or where he goes afterwards is unknown. Over time, Albedo is driven completely mad over the fact that everyone he knows will die, yet he will remain forever, and so he decides that he must find U-DO, and become one completely with U-DO, in order to die. Somehow, he gains a craft named Simeon and the Song of Nephilim (maybe from Vector, as he works with Blue Testament at one point). As a U.R.T.V., Albedo has telepathic abilities, and so he is hired by Margulis in Episode I to extract the Y-Data from MOMO. He ends up kidnapping her by disguising himself as Joachim Mizrahi, her father (I have no idea how he disguises himself so well). In the Song of Nephilim, Albedo displays his hatred for Sakura (because she was stealing Rubedo from him) by torturing the Kirchwassers, who were modelled after her. He is able to get the first layer of the Y-Data by reversing MOMO's spiritual link before he is stopped by Jr., giving MOMO a little of his power in the process. The 'little power' MOMO inherits is actually a trap that is activated in Episode II; an emulator of Albedo's consciousness. Using the data he is able to bring back Proto Merkabah somehow and docks the Song of Nephilim into it. He tries to crash Proto Merkabah into Second Miltia, but is stopped by Jr. and party. Once MOMO is hooked up to the U.M.N. for the analysis of the Y-Data, Albedo's consciousness within her uses the U.M.N. to access the most well-protected portions of the Y-Data. He uses this to get the access code to Old Miltia, and the planet is brought back from the 'dead'. He is next confronted in the Omega System, and tries to kill Patriarch, but is defeated. He turns into particles, truly becoming one with U-DO now that the Zohar is right there, and then is summoned by the Testaments to kill Jr.'s party once Patriarch is finished off. U-DO-Albedo's threat is blocked by KOS-MOS for a time, but all of the Omega System is soon consumed by a space-time anomaly because of the U-DO exposure, similar to what happened during the Miltia Conflict. Albedo's plans finally come true: he is U-DO, and because Jr. is the Red Dragon, meant to be the main offensive against U-DO, he is the only person who can kill U-DO, and therefore kill Albedo. Albedo taunts Jr. to come to the space-time anomaly, fights with him knowing he will lose, and then dies. The Kirchwassers he'd been so cruel to seem to forgive him as they lift him to a higher plane of existence. Though it seems ironic, considering Albedo went through all of that just to kill himself, it is likely that Albedo still lives on as the White Testament, or the Weaver of the Eternal Circle of Zarathustra. It is the newest Testament, gained right after Albedo's death by Wilhelm, who states.. "His will shines with such wondrous light. It's a shame to relegate him to such a minor role.. Don't you think..?" .. in Episode I when speaking about Albedo. He proceeds to state.. "I said it was a shame, didn't I?" .. in Episode II, right before introducing the White Testament. Of course, this is speculation. If it is true, it can be assumed that Albedo didn't want to die so badly because he didn't want to watch other people die as he lived on: he wanted to die so badly because he had already made a deal with Wilhelm to become a Testament after his death to fulfill goals unknown to us. #A.M.W.S. --------------------------------------------------------------------- The standard mech in Xenosaga; the A.G.W.S. class are much smaller and compact. The A.M.W.S. are huge, and used for all kinds of stuff in comparison to the A.G.W.S., which are only used for anti-Gnosis fighting. What A.M.W.S. stands for is unknown. #Anima Relic --------------------------------------------------------------------- See 'Vessel of Anima/Anima Relic'. #bookworm --------------------------------------------------------------------- Jin Uzuki, Jr. #Bormeo University --------------------------------------------------------------------- One of the best educational institutions in the Federation. People who have attended it include Allen, Shion, Kevin, and the three Professors. Joachim Mizrahi mentored Kevin here, but it is unknown whether or not Mizrahi had any official connections (such as being an instructor) to the University. #Boss --------------------------------------------------------------------- Shion's former boss, believe it or not. He's the owner of Moby Dick's Cafe, and used to employ Shion when she was in high school; that's how she learned how to make such good curry. Boss makes the best curry in the whole star cluster. #Canaan --------------------------------------------------------------------- Canaan is a special Realian created by Vector, overseen by none other than Wilhelm. He is one of the few (MOMO included) Realians that can operate an E.S. His most unusual feature is his unique look, deviating from the standard Realian models. He is first introduced in Miltia, where he and chaos are deployed on a mission to retrieve the U.R.T.V.s and the Y-Data by Helmer. Canaan is nearly driven mad by the Song of Nephilim, but Jin comes to he and chaos' aide. Jin entrusts some data that proves that U-TIC is up to no good to Canaan; being a Realian, Canaan is able to electronically transfer the data from the chip into his brain. However, some kind of a shadow (possibly the black hole(s)) consumes he and chaos, and what happens after that is a mystery, but they do go on to save Rubedo and Nigredo somehow. The shadow has some kind of lasting effect on Canaan that makes him unable to retrieve the data; every time he tries, the data simply cuts off and he can't get anything out of it. Therefore, instead of trying to comprehend the data with his own brain, Canaan realizes that he must first extract the data and then allow another computer (one that wasn't affected by the shadow) to comprehend it. But the only computer able to extract that particular data is the one in the U-TIC Garden, which Jin and Canaan visit later in Episode II, and successfully are able to extract the data with. From then on, Canaan becomes more or less useless; he doesn't even operate his own E.S. It's a real shame. Early video clips of Xenosaga II seemed to portray Canaan as a playable character both in and out of E.S., so he may have been 'cut out' to an extent. Canaan's E.S. is aligned with the Anima Relic Asher. 'Canaan' itself is an ancient term referring to the general area around present-day Israel, but also including western Jordan, southern Syria and southern Lebanon. #Cecily and Catherine --------------------------------------------------------------------- Twin Realians linked up to the Original Zohar, used to control its power output for the U-TIC. They are the sisters of Febronia, but how they got involved with the U-TIC is unknown. They are unaware of their true positions, living in a fantasy world as shown by Febronia in Episode I, but they cannot be parted from the Zohar without dying because it is their life support. However, Febronia gives Shion permission to let KOS-MOS kill them--free them--and thus, their story ends. Something interesting to note: the twins' bodies were 'decomposing' similar to Betty's, the half-Gnosis woman in Jr.'s science tanks aboard the Durandal. #chaos --------------------------------------------------------------------- BIRTHDATE: Unknown AGE: Unknown; Appears 16 A mysterious boy, often the victim of yaoi fanfiction. He first appeared when he was issued by (Commander?) Helmer to infiltrate Old Miltia during the Miltian Conflict, to retrieve the U.R.T.V.s before they made the grave mistake of trying to contain U-DO. He was escorted by Canaan, and co-piloted the E.S. Asher with inhuman skills. He and Canaan saved Rubedo and Nigredo, and he has watched over Jr. ever since. chaos has many interesting abilities: he can walk into rooms without using the door, he can instantly kill Gnosis by touching them, he can haunt peoples' daydreams, he can breathe in space--the list goes on and on, and considering his real name is Yeshua, it's no wonder why. 'Yeshua' is the Jewish name for 'Jesus', who is the Messiah, which the Patriarch mentions. (Note that he mentions 'Messiah', not Jesus.) chaos seems to have some kind of past with Wilhelm and the Testaments; he and Wilhelm can telepathically speak with each other and the Blue Testament, Virgil, calls chaos 'boss' at one point in Episode I. Details are unknown. #Citrine --------------------------------------------------------------------- Citrine is U.R.T.V. #668; she was created right after Albedo and Rubedo, and right before Nigredo. She is one of the very few female U.R.T.V.s, since technically there is no need for females aside from their purpose of securing the mtDNA. The girls' ward is separated from the main part of the Yuriev Institute for reasons we don't know, but it might have to do with the fact that unsuccessful females were 'disposed' of. Only nine remain, including Citrine. It's unknown what business Citrine had at the main part of the Yuriev Institute, but she seemed to have come specially just to meet Rubedo. Citrine calls the female types superior, and technically they are. All the females have Nigredo's ability: the ability to kill Rubedo if the situation ever arises. On top of this, they are the rare X stock of course (female), and since Citrine is probably the Pale Horse, she is Death, and Death seems a lot more intimidating than Famine. Some people speculate that Citrine has other special powers, such as the ability to transform into an orange juicemaker. The name 'Citrine' is derived from the citrine quartz/topaz, a beautiful amber-colored gemstone. It's the same color as Citrine's hair. 'Citrinas' is also the fourth stage of Alchamy, following the pattern of Rubedo/Nigredo/Albedo. #Commander Andrew Cherenkov --------------------------------------------------------------------- BIRTHDATE: T.C. 4731 AGE: 36 Cherenkov's life was a hard one. He was a victim of the Zoar (not Zohar) Incident, which produced Super Soldiers under the Life Recycling Act. Details of the Zoar Incident are unknown, but it was a war of some kind that took place on Ariadne, and the soldiers who fought in it were given the drive to kill. These killer instincts--combined with the fact that the super soldiers were looked at as abominations when they came back from the war--drove many of them mad, including Cherenkov. Cherenkov committed a horrible, unnamed crime while the Species Preservation Act--which outlawed the Life Recycling Act--was being put into order, and because of this ended up in court. He soon fell in love with his lawyer, who was able to get him out of jailtime under one condition: that he get personality reconditioning. She and Cherenkov got married, but it was soon revealed that his wife wasn't actually in love with him: she just got married to him because she wanted to get a cloning license (for unnamed reasons), which is only issued under certain conditions because of the Species Preservation Act. (In their case, since Cherenkov was labelled 'mad', the lawyer was seen to have a good excuse to clone herself instead of having a child between she and Cherenkov.) His wife was also having a virtual affair with another man via her U.M.N. headgear. But all Cherenkov ever wanted in his life was to leave a legacy. This is why he kills his wife, and then is ordered to an even higher level of personality reconditioning. Then, one day, he comes across his wife's clone, and kills her as well. Thus, he is put into the highest level of personality reconditioning; so high it's still experimental. Yet even this doesn't have an effect on him: he murders everyone in the reconditioning facility with his bare hands, and Margulis hears of this so he decides to give Cherenkov a purpose and hires him under U-TIC. Cherenkov's first mission is to infiltrate the Dammerung?*** and kidnap the KOS-MOS Prototype, so he takes a ship off Ariadne and while ascending hallucinates and sees his dead wife and her clone. Once he gets on the Dammerung, Kevin gives Cherenkov his connection gear, which has the ability to activate KOS-MOS. Cherenkov and his men storm the First R&D Division and wake up the Prototype, much to their mistake. Prototype KOS-MOS ends up slaughtering everyone in the building, and Cherenkov is only saved when her attention is grabbed by an attacking helicopter. Two years later.. Though Cherenkov failed his mission, it wasn't Cherenkov's fault that the Prototype was so unexpectedly dangerous, and so Margulis puts him on another mission: to be part of the Zohar Link Experiment. Nobody knows what this is about, but it involved the Zohar emulator, and it ended up transforming Ariadne into the Cathedral Ship. Cherenkov completed this mission successfully, yet had been unaware from the beginning that it would result in the destruction of his own planet. The Zohar Link Experiment might have been an attempt to copy the link between Cecily, Cathe, and the Zohar, used to control the original Zohar on Old Miltia, invented by Joachim Mizrahi and the U-TIC. Cherenkov's next mission is to secure the Zohar from the destroyed Ariadne, and because there are U-TIC spies in the Federation, he is issued (along with Vanderkaum and his men) to the Woglinde to recover it. His plans fall short when Gnosis appear, wanting the Zohar for themselves since its presence wasn't disguised with an attract inhibitor. Because he left the Zohar exposed to normal space and it was sucked up by Cathedral Ship soon after the destruction of the Woglinde, Cherenkov fails yet another mission, but is able to live by clinging onto the rescue pod of Shion and Allen while in a spacesuit. The party boards the Elsa, and Cherenkov is touched by a Gnosis before being half-saved by chaos. The Elsa goes to the Dock Colony, which hates soldiers, and Cherenkov is attacked because he is one. Cherenkov's drive to kill awakens and he beats the living daylights out of the thugs. He later refuses treatment from MOMO because the nanomachines she wanted to use to treat him (nanotreatment) could have triggered a change in the chemicals that controled his emotions, creating a violent reaction. The Gnosis within Cherenkov--because he was attacked earlier--starts to take effect, and this combined with the fact that he is a Super Soldier and wants to kill something makes for a nasty combination. Cherenkov tries to use one of his personality conditioning drugs to calm himself down, but to little avail. He ends up in Cathedral Ship, which is Ariadne, and because of this hallucinates until he reaches the Zohar. Strains of U-DO--the souls of the people in Cherenkov's life--spawn from the Zohar and spiral around Cherenkov, blaming him for everything he's done and haunting him some more. The strains pelt him with the weight of all his crimes, and he finally gives in to becoming Gargoyle, a horrifyingly strong Gnosis. Ziggy has a flashback of Voyager because Voyager, too, made a 'contract' with U-DO and turned into a Gnosis. Gargoyle is defeated, and Shion gets sucked into the world that Cherenkov's consciousness now lives in. It seems similar to the world where Shion sees Nephilim, the Zohar, and chaos' shadow. Cherenkov says he likes it in this world, since there is nothing to trouble him anymore. The world Cherenkov is in might be a higher plane of existence existing within U-DO and the Zohar. Either way, he tells Shion that she will be there soon too, because somehow he knows about the fact that she was touched by a Gnosis. Cherenkov's tracking signal ceases to exist, and Margulis closes his eyes, having been the only one who actually valued him. ***We don't know where these events take place. It's either on the Dammerung or in Ariadne; I stated it was the Dammerung before, but I've come across some evidence (thanks to X CubeStation) that may prove me wrong. Apparently, during the scene where Kevin gives Cherenkov his connection gear, the building behind them (very hard to see since Kevin's hand immediately comes up to block the sign as if the developers were trying to hide something) says ARIADNE. The buildings also look a lot like the buildings on Ariadne, so it is most likely Ariadne, but because of the fact that it's very odd for First Division to be operating on Ariadne, I've decided not to list it as fact yet. What *is* fact is that it is either on the Dammerung or in Ariadne. #curry --------------------------------------------------------------------- Though curry was technically derived from India, nobody in India calls it 'curry'--that's because curry isn't an object. It's a whole bunch of dishes under one name, coined by the British and picked up by other countries from there. These dishes range from an unlimited set of types of soups and stews, often containing ginger, garlic, onion, turmeric, chile, oil--it's often served on rice, particularly in Asia. Shion is an expert curry-maker, having worked at Moby Dick's Cafe when she was younger. Jin loves his curry extra spicy. That witch from Double Trouble likes rat skull curry. Mmm! #Dammerung --------------------------------------------------------------------- A massive colony, bigger than the Kukai Foundation--perhaps the biggest colony in the Federation. It holds cities, the First R&D Division, has artificial weather, and even has a graveyard. It can team up with other ships equipped with the the Rhine Maiden for awesome Gnosis-owning attacks. 'Dammerung' is derived from Richard Wagner's Gotterdammerung. The play is about a golden ring sleeping at the bottom of a lake, protected by three Rhine Maidens named Woglinde, Welgunde, and Flosshilde. These are, of course, the names of the Dammerung's sister ships. #Dinah --------------------------------------------------------------------- An E.S. comprised of two parts: Kevin's U.M.N-independent ship and KOS-MOS' dive unit. The Anima Relic is probably stored somewhere inside of Kevin's ship, but it is unknown where Kevin would have acquired such a thing. Perhaps from Mizrahi, since he was most likely mentored by him. #DME addiction --------------------------------------------------------------------- DME addiction is caused when one eats Realians. The tissue is absorbed by the bloodstream and causes mutations in the brain. These mutations allow one to pick up the whatever the Realian had in their brain, and in DME Addict Virgil's case, this includes the fact that an emergency Realian override code exists. As Realian tissue collects in veins, the veins harden and create cornification of the skin. #Dr. Dmitri Yuriev --------------------------------------------------------------------- Father of around 700 kids, all clones of him. He founded the Yuriev Institute so that he could battle U-DO, and also so that he could somehow reincarnate into them later on after he died. (Though so far, it's only confirmed that Nigredo can be reincarnated into.) Dmitri's a pretty crazy guy. He doesn't mind sacrificing people in order to get what he wants, which is to remove U-TIC from the face of the planet: you could even say that Dmitri had a grudge against Mizrahi because he was the other, *better* scientist. Dmitri ends up dying when he tells Nigredo of his mission, which goes more or less undisclosed. However, Albedo comments to Nigredo over Episode II about how Nigredo's just waiting for his chance to take out Rubedo, so the mission might have been for Nigredo to subdue or kill Rubedo. Though Nigredo shot Dmitri to his death, Dmitri's consciousness is revived inside of the adult version of Nigredo in Episode II, though he only has a certain degree of control over Nigredo. #Durandal --------------------------------------------------------------------- The Durandal is a warship that docks with the Kukai Foundation. It contains eleven Zohar emulators, protected by attract inhibitors, and all of the ship's functions are controlled by Mama, the AI of the mainframe. The Durandal has the ability to externally amplify the crew's magical powers, ram into things with its tip, and also has a magnetized towing device. The Durandal was named after the French sword, 'Durandal', wielded by the hero Roland. Notice the Durandal's swordlike shape, used to impale victim ships. #Dur Wille zur Macht --------------------------------------------------------------------- German for 'The Will to Power'. Named after a Nietzsche work. #Elsa --------------------------------------------------------------------- LENGTH: 166 Meters WEIGHT: 8400 Tons The Elsa is a luxury liner, jerry-rigged to its fullest extent. Because of all these illegal parts, combined with the fact that the Elsa was just completely remodeled and the Professor just built a robot factory without Captain Matthews' permission, the Elsa has been the Captain's main source of debt. The Elsa also employs many droids to keep the place in tip-top shape, but because the crew consists of the rowdy Matthews, Tony, Hammer, and chaos, they have picked up the overbearing personalities of the boys. The name 'Elsa' comes from the heroine of Richard Wagner's 'Lohengrin'. #Encephalon --------------------------------------------------------------------- An Encephalon is nothing more than a virtual space, but one that is constructed inside the mind, enabling what happens in that virtual space to have an effect on normal space. For example, if you are infected with U-DO in an Encephalon dive, your complete brain structure is changed, and so you are infected in virtual space and in the real world. If you die in the virtual space, your brain shuts down permanently both in the virtual and real world. Encephalons can exist inside of Encephalons, too. #Erich --------------------------------------------------------------------- Ziggy's former friend, future nemesis. He made a deal with U-DO and then became the evil Voyager, and the Black Testament. His story is delved into in Pied Piper. See 'Voyager'. If you're interested in Pied Piper's whole plot, I suggest Kouli's amazing Pied Piper Story Translation: http://db.gamefaqs.com/portable/mobile/file/xenosaga_pp_trans.txt #E.S. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Any mech that has a Vessel of Anima installed in it. What E.S. the acronym stands for is unknown. The E.S. class itself was created by U-TIC, and then stolen by Vector. (What means Vector used is unknown.) #Febronia --------------------------------------------------------------------- A female Realian, the caretaker of Shion when she was a child. Febronia had two sisters, Cecily and Catherine. For some reason, these twins were the Realians selected to control the output of the original Zohar. They were connected to it, and slept eternally while being used, completely oblivious to the horrors they were producing. Febronia comes in contact with Virgil, who was a soldier in Old Miltia, and probably falls in love with him. Then she is killed by a mutated Realian, infected by U-DO, in order to save Shion during the Miltian Conflict. Febronia continues to lives on by being a consciousness within the extended Encephalon of KOS-MOS, meeting with Shion in the church that she also cherished when she was alive. She always knew Shion was a kind soul, so she chooses her to free her sisters from the clutches of the Zohar, but in order for Shion to get the courage to go back to Old Miltia and carry out this task she must face her fears of Old Miltia: the death of her parents, the death of Febronia, and the death of Old Miltia itself. Eventually, Shion does reach the original Zohar sleeping on Old Miltia, and finally meets with the decomposing, yet alive, Cecily and Catherine. Febronia gives Shion permission to allow KOS-MOS to destroy the system, destroying Cecily and Cathe in the process, yet freeing them at the same time. The link between Cecily and Cathe and the Zohar might have been what Cherenkov was trying to copy with the emulator on Ariadne; the Zohar Link Experiment, originally created by Joachim Mizrahi and U-TIC. #Gaignun Kukai --------------------------------------------------------------------- A false identity issued by the Miltian government, inspired by the name of Jr.'s pet cat. See 'Nigredo'. #Gnosis --------------------------------------------------------------------- 'Monsters' that have always existed, but were very rarely seen up until the Miltian Conflict. They are comprised of salt and water, period. Transluscent, they have no physical barriers or limits unless they are brought into the physical world with the Hilbert Effect. The Gnosis were created from the Zohar/U-DO, and are therefore attracted to it, which requires all Zohars to be enclosed in an attract inhibitor or the Gnosis will be drawn to it. What are Gnosis, really? Well, since U-DO eats souls, and the .3% of things that come in contact with the Zohar 'lose what makes them human', they could be the shell-like bodies of that .3%. There are two different kinds of Gnosis: hostile Gnosis and structural Gnosis. Hostile Gnosis are constantly searching for any living thing to kill. Structural Gnosis, since they are comprised of objects such as Ariadne (Cathedral Ship) or a solar system (Abel's Ark), are not hostile, but do have the ability to defend their Zohars. The Gnosis literally suck the life out of their victims by absorbing every last ounce of fluid, until the living thing breaks apart because it's so dry; they turn into salt, more or less. It should be noted that Gnosis are never hostile towards anything that is non-living. If a person is able to escape after being touched by a Gnosis, they slowly become a Gnosis themselves. This process is similar to that of a mosquito: it uses saliva to secure the entry point on your skin, sucks blood, then removes its saliva and flies away, leaving you unharmed. However, if you interrupt the mosquito, it leaves its saliva in you and that point becomes infected and turns into a mosquito bite. If a Gnosis' case, that saliva is instead something that turns you into a Gnosis. The point in history that brought Gnosis to the forefront was the birth of MOMO, which for some reason required that the Song of Nephilim be played, which for some reason called the Gnosis to the Federation's star system. Since the Song of Nephilim and Proto Merkabah run off of the energy input of Gnosis, it can be assumed the Song was played in order to draw, and then suck up the Gnosis so that the energy required to give birth to MOMO was met. Joachim Mizrahi may have or may have not been aware of this. #Hammer --------------------------------------------------------------------- BIRTHDATE: T.C. 4740 AGE: 27 Hammer is the greatest hacker in the universe--maybe a little too great, since he hacked into a criminal organization's database and ended up in a lot of trouble because of it. Captain Matthews decided to save him by inviting him onto the Elsa, and they've been together ever since. Technically, Hammer isn't needed since the Elsa's mainframe is smart enough to control the ship's output by itself, but Hammer does it manually just to show off. The name 'Hammer' is a reference to the character Hammer from Xenogears, who also acts as comic relief. #Heinlein --------------------------------------------------------------------- A high-up in Ormus--a Cardinal holding less power than Patriarch in rank, but not reality-wise--who is the head of Hyams and funds the U-TIC organization. We never get to see his face in Episode II. Heinlein also funds the Yuriev Institute through Hyams; he seems to be sitting on the fence when it comes to the dismay between U-TIC and Yuriev. Heinlein may have been named after Robert A. Heinlein, one of the founding fathers of the science-fiction genre of literature. #Helmer --------------------------------------------------------------------- BIRTHDATE: T.C. 4711 AGE: 56 Helmer started off as an officer of some kind (perhaps a Commander, as he is the one who gives chaos and Canaan the orders to retrieve the U.R.T.V.s and the Y-Data) within the Miltian military, and slowly worked his way up to his current position as Representative Helmer. He was one of the people who established the Kukai Foundation, which was made to investigate what happened in the Miltian Conflict. He is most known for his quote, "U-DO", and the fact that he is the only person of color in Xenosaga. #Hermann --------------------------------------------------------------------- Some dude. He works under the Ormus and we never get to see his face, but he does operate the A.M.W.S. Scutum. He tries to kidnap MOMO along with the help of Richard near the beginning of Episode II. #Hyams --------------------------------------------------------------------- A wealthy company providing funding for U-TIC from behind the scenes. The head of the company, Heinlein, is a Cardinal for Ormus. It also funds the Yuriev Institute. #Immigrant Fleet --------------------------------------------------------------------- A fake name for Ormus. See 'Ormus'. #Issachar --------------------------------------------------------------------- Pellegri's E.S., provided by Margulis himself, capable of AIRD assaults. #Jenseits von Gut und Bose --------------------------------------------------------------------- German for 'Beyond Good and Evil'. Named after a Nietzsche work. #Jin Uzuki --------------------------------------------------------------------- BIRTHDATE: T.C. 4732 AGE: 35 Shion's older brother; stern, stubborn, an expert in the martial arts. Did I just describe Shion? Anyhow, he was taught how to use the sword from his grandfather, who was also the mentor of Margulis. Once he was old enough, Jin enlisted in the Miltian military, his Colonel none other than Margulis. Somehow, Jin obtained data that exposed the corruption behind U-TIC, and turned against the military. In order to publicize the data he needed to extract it from a chip, and in order to extract it he needed to get into Labyrinthos. Unfortunately, Margulis blocked the way to Labyrinthos, and so Jin transferred the data from the chip to Canaan and threw the empty chip at Margulis as a distraction. He hastily leaves chaos and Canaan because he has something to do.. This something is to save his family from certain doom! But Jin arrives at Shion's aide too late; her parents and Febronia have been slaughtered. It is for this reason that Shion has a grudge against Jin: had he come earlier, they would all still be alive. Then Jin dropped out of the military and switched jobs every six or so months; from a martial artist to a swordsman, to a soldier to a doctor, to a books salesman to a Citan Uzuki wannabe. Through all of this, Jin has become a very useful jack-of-all-trades. He ends up joining Shion's party, and then rejoins the military at Helmer's request at the end of Episode II because he has come to realize that time will not wait. Most people believe Jin might be related to Citan Uzuki from Xenogears, but that's just dead wrong. Citan gained the last name 'Uzuki' from his wife, Yui, and *she* was the one who taught him how to use and gave him his sword. Therefore, if Jin (and his family, and Shion) are related to anyone, it is most definitely Yui. #Joachim Mizrahi --------------------------------------------------------------------- BIRTHDATE: T.C. 4701 AGE: Died at 52 in Miltia Conflict Joachim Mizrahi was the creator of the 100-Series Observational Realians, the environmental nanomachine bugs, the Hilbert Effect, U-TIC, and he drew the Gnosis into the Federation's star cluster and somehow hurled all of Old Miltia into the double black holes during the Miltian Conflict, killing himself. Or so we assume. The Official Design Materials state that the help of the Zohar allowed Miltia to be hurled into the holes. He was perhaps the most genius person in recent history. He created Proto Merkabah, which held the construction of MOMO and studied the Gnosis, Zohars, and mentally ill Realians. He created the Song of Nephilim, which was made to dock with Proto Merkabah. He may have had something to do with the linking of Cecily and Catherine to the Zohar. Joachim Mizrahi was a good and bad man: good for his genius, bad for the fact that he went a bit cooky when his daughter, Sakura, killed herself. He was willing to do anything to get Sakura back, including doing things he didn't really want to do, or was completely oblivious about for his own organization, the U-TIC. He was in fact being used by U-TIC, who simply wanted to control all the universe under Ormus once again. Mizrahi was manipulated by U-TIC, made to believe that if he did as they said he would somehow be able to ascend to the plane of existence where Sakura existed after her death. (Heaven?) And through all this was Juli Mizrahi, his wife. She was very distant, fearing Joachim's madness and spending most of her time trying to make contact with the inner Sakura, plagued by an unidentifiable disorder. Perhaps it was this absence that made Joachim even more mad, surrounded by nothing but his research. 'Joachim' means 'established by Yaweh' in Hebrew. #Jr., Gaignun --------------------------------------------------------------------- A false identity issued by the Miltian government. The official records state that he was born in T.C. 4755 and is the adopted son of Gaignun Kukai. See 'Rubedo'. #Juli Mizrahi --------------------------------------------------------------------- BIRTHDATE: T.C. 4723 AGE: 44 Juli Niwashiro got married to Joachim Mizrahi at one point and thus became Juli Mizrahi. Her name is pronounced both YOO-LEE and YOO-REE Mizrahi in Xenosaga I and II, but the proper way is most likely YOO-REE. She and Joachim had a daughter, Sakura, but because of Sakura's condition Juli spent most of her time trying to cure it; to figure it what it was. She took Sakura to the Yuriev Institute to use the U.R.T.V.s to destroy whatever was plaguing Sakura's mind numerous times, and to her surprise the U.R.T.V.s were able to speak with Sakura while in her mind. However, one day for unknown reasons, Sakura committed suicide by unknown means right in front of Juli. Sakura's death inspired the 100-Series Observational Realian models, and those models inspired Juli's fear of MOMO. Because the birth of MOMO was partially responsible for the coming of the Gnosis, Juli took responsibility and founded the S.O.C.E. in order to put a halt to the madness. To this day, she holds a grudge against her own husband for all the things she thinks he did, and all the things he really did do, but in Episode II she learns to appreciate MOMO as another daughter, not Sakura's replacement. Juli might be falling in love with Ziggy. #Kahles scope --------------------------------------------------------------------- A type of magnification scope developed in the 1900s for use with rifles. chaos asks how Jr. would feel if he had to give up his precious Kahles scope, and considering how much of an antique it is, Jr. obviously wouldn't want to lose it. #Kevin Winicott --------------------------------------------------------------------- BIRTHDATE: T.C. 7439 AGE: Died at 26 Kevin was the former Chief Engineer of the KOS-MOS Project, but also invented a vehicle that could travel through hyperspace completely independently, without the help of the U.M.N. This vehicle is actually half of an E.S; the other half is KOS-MOS' maintenance unit. The reason Kevin is so skilled in his work is because he was most likely mentored by Joachim Mizrahi while in Bormeo. He was Shion's boyfriend, and gave her his glasses as a gift. They both worked on KOS-MOS together, but Kevin had a dark--or easily manipulated--side to him. He ended up giving his connection gear to Cherenkov, and this resulted in U-TIC storming First R&D Division and trying to take KOS-MOS. The Prototype goes completely out of control, ripping apart everyone in the building, including the very person that created her. Kevin saves Shion by taking a fatal hit, and dies in her arms. His necklace is taken by Shion as something to remember him by. The reason why Kevin decides to give away his research and have himself killed--he couldn't have been oblivious to the fact that KOS-MOS was VERY dangerous--probably has something to do with Vector. Kevin most likely becomes the Red Testament after dying, but why he would give up everything he had to become one is unknown. Either way, the Red Testament IS the one that keeps track of KOS-MOS and tells her what to do all throughout Episode I, so.. #KOS-MOS --------------------------------------------------------------------- An android created by Kevin, though technically the KOS-MOS we meet in Episode I has no knowledge of Kevin. The Prototype's head was destroyed somewhere***, so the present KOS-MOS has no knowledge of anything that happened before two years ago. Well, it SHOULD have no knowledge of what happened, but it does. Anyway, after Shion kills the Prototype, she and Allen create a new KOS-MOS from the remains--they have to, since the black boxes are the core units and cannot be duplicated since Kevin is dead--and that is the KOS-MOS you see. This KOS-MOS can turn just about every part of her body into a weapon and her weapons include automatic firearms, scythes, scarily high ether compatibility, giant phase cannons, and glowy hair. OoOoOooO. She can also increase and decrease her weapons output, allowing her to take out fused masses of Gnosis as well as do the dishes. The black boxes in KOS-MOS left behind by Kevin, uneditable, also hide secrets: they allow KOS-MOS to absorb Gnosis much like the Song of Nephilim, (more proof that Joachim and Kevin worked together) and they are also what allows KOS-MOS to sometimes show unusual acts of emotion. These black boxes also allow her to create her E.S. in Episode II; you'll know when the black boxes are activated whenever KOS-MOS' eyes turn blue. In the case of the Gnosis absorbtion, KOS-MOS is able to hack into the Durandal's mainframe and use the Zohars as a power source. More evidence that Joachim was Kevin's mentor is the fact that both KOS-MOS and Shion's consciousnesses exist within MOMO, guarding the Y-Data. Joachim probably had a part in creating those black boxes with Kevin. A consciousness that exists within KOS-MOS happens to be Nephilim, who hacks into KOS-MOS' mainframe in the beginning of the game and extends the Encephalon so that it covers the memories of Shion and party; this is premeditated to give Shion the message that she needs to save Cecily and Catherine and to also warn her of U-DO and what KOS-MOS will become. At the end of Episode I, KOS-MOS and chaos have an unusual confrontation, and choas' hands start to glow. For this reason, some assume that chaos and KOS-MOS merge somehow as KOS-MOS saves the Elsa--this combined with the fact that KOS-MOS does have an uncanny resemblance to chaos at that particular point in the game, and it's angel wings that protect the Elsa, provides an interesting argument. However, as there is no further evidence, this isn't something I am ready to actually believe happened. Just something to think about. In Episode II, KOS-MOS receives an upgrade that transforms her into the KOS-MOS that is to battle U-DO, and Wilhelm mentions that when the way to Lost Jerusalem is opened (and it pretty much is at the end of the game) 'KOS-MOS will awaken.' ***We don't know where these events take place.
