This FAQ/Walkthrough is copyright of Alan Quirino, 2009. grayfox2510 (at) gmail (dot) com Ok, so let us go over a few basic things... 1) If you see anything that looks like my guide somewhere else, and you think it was stolen without my permission, please let me know. Thanks. 2) As of currently, I am not allowing many other sites besides GameFAQs to host my guides. IGN being a possible exception from time to time, but otherwise, I'm afraid I must decline your offers under most circumstances. You are, of course, still free to try. Who knows? Also, under the odds that you are granted permission, please check regularly the following link for updates. http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/recognition/8373.html Sites that have free permission to host my guides are: + GameFAQs.com (GameSpot links to them, so they are fine too.) + IGN.com + NeoSeeker.com 3) If sending an inquiry about this game, be sure to put, at the very least, "Cross Edge" in the title, just to help me sort my mail. Otherwise, it might get lost and you get no answer. Do note however, I have the right to answer you or not. That is, obvious questions or information you could easily reach in here might not be answered. I normally still answer almost every mail (Yeah, I'm a good person), though that's not 100% of all cases. Also, I know my English isn't perfect but at least I tried when writing this, please do the same when you mail in a question. My e-mail is at the top and bottom of this file. 4) Needless to say, this guide is copyrighted according to the DMCA and stuff. So, please don't steal anything (If you want to use something, a bit of information or whatever, go ahead, but give proper credit where due). Just don't take the whole thing. 5) Mails thanking me for the help and whatnot are always appreciated. ^^ (Honestly, they alone are enough to make me keep going sometimes) Feel free to write in English or Spanish, whichever you prefer. You could also write in French or Japanese, but I probably won't be able to answer back in those languages too well... Yet. _______________________________________________________________________________ -----------------------------------Contents------------------------------------ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ BE SURE TO USE THE [] WHILE SEARCHING WITH THE KEY, OTHERWISE YOU MIGHT LAND IN A DIFFERENT PLACE BEFORE YOU GET TO WHERE YOU WANTED. + Finished ~ Under Construction - To do ##. Updates: - Version 1.11 - Filseize: 1,619,657 (1.54 MBs) Date: August 22, 2010 One year jump, how's that? Just included information on one extra DLC dungeon, nothing that big. - Version 1.10 - Filesize: 1,617,545 (1,580 KBs) Date: August 20, 2009 Modified the Title List to include enemy locations and such. Well, Phil Reed did it. - Version 1.02 - Filesize: 1,611,557 (1,574 KBs) Date: August 18, 2009 Just a few notes on the Scholar Crusher costume for Etna. Still pending my mass revision, still don't feel like playing this game... - Version 1.01 - Filesize: 1,610,128 (1,573 KBs) Date: July 20, 2009 Update a few things on the True End Quicklist. A bit sick of the game, so the walkthrough revamp will be done later. - Version 1.00 - Filesize: 1,609,451 (1,572 KBs) Date: July 15, 2009 I generally don't do a 1.00 until I do everything. But since I'll be writing the Soul Location list as I do my 3rd playthrough (and redo the walkthrough), it would take forever to get there, so eh. I'll just jump it from 1.00 to 2.00 there. If I get to that... Item list done. Finally. - Version 0.90 - Filesize: 1,305,286 (1,265 KBs) Date: July 12, 2009 And... Fail. Apparently, I had the whole synth sections twice in here. Fun stuff... Finally got all the titles (and my trophies). Just missing the item list before I can say the guide is full. And that soul thing too, of course. - Version 0.81 - Filesize: 1,461,339 (1,428 KBs) Date: July 11, 2009 Small update, just adding an event that I seemed to have missed writing about in the guide and no one told me about. o.o Almost done with my in-game weapon collection. - Version 0.80 - Filesize: 1,460,826 Bytes (1,427 KBs) Date: July 06, 2009 (1 AM) Finished the Enemy section. Almost finish the titles. Started to work on the weapon/armor/accessory/item list. Took out a few unnecessary sections. Walkthrough done. Not tagging it as 1.00 or anything because the guide is not complete in what I intend to do. Fixed some character stuff. Need to stop writing everything in different files... Synthesis section done, also added all the character abilities. Finished the skills section too entirely. Almost there. - Version 0.60 - Filesize: 694,974 Bytes (679 KBs) Date: June 24, 2009 Walkthrough up to Ida 3. Between writing up a lot of other stuff, I didn't add too much to the walkthrough. I should have Ida 3 cleared by the next update. Did all the costumes, and did take a while to write... More titles too. - Version 0.50 - Filesize: 489,300 Bytes (478 KBs) Date: June 17, 2009 Walkthrough done up to the post-game of 5-1. Still to finish the rest. Added all the character profiles, though not all are complete. Some are still missing a few skills. Everything else is there. Also added the skill list as they come in-game. Still missing some, though. Still a lot of work to do... - Version 0.30 - Filesize: 174,181 Bytes (171 KBs) Date: June 12, 2009 Walkthrough finished up the normal ending. Will do true end on my next run since I somehow messed up. Updated a few more titles. Continued work on othe character details and the skill list, but still not being included. - Version 0.15 - Filesize: 80,938 Bytes (80 KBs) Date: June 07, 2009 Started. It's going to be a fun, senseless ride. Forewords: Not much. _______________________________________________________________________________ -----------------------------01. OI. .+IIM. .O?II Cross Edge features an interesting, and somewhat complex battle ?OOI system for new (and maybe old) playes to the genre. Z$. Combat here is slightly tactical, as you can see from the grid along the ground. Both the enemy and you have a 3x4 grid... ENEMIES ALLIES [ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ] You can have up to 4 units in battle. The enemy, being who they are, can cheat and have many more or even large enemies, but that's besides the point. So, how do we get down to it? Each character can have up to 4 skills in battle, each assigned to the Square, X, Circle or Triangle buttons. Each skill has a type of its own. BURST, BREAK or DOWN. And that means...? Well, let's begin with your weapons. I said "up to 4 skills", right? Each weapon has a set number of skill slots in which you can equip a skill, and said skill slots also have types. So in order to put a skill there, their types must match. The exception being the "All" slot, which as its name indicates, you can place any skill there. So you know about skills, what not? Well, once in battle, just press the button the skill is assigned to, and you will execute the move against the targeted enemy if its in range. This is where the combat becomes tactical, since you might have to move your units around. Combat is executed as "all of you attack", then "all the enemies attack" and so on until one side is down. So I can attack endlessly? Not quite. Characters have an AP number. Action Points. Each skill (or actions such as using items, moving or shifting, later explained) use AP. So how much you can do depends on your AP. AP is individual by the way, so each character can do whatever. After you use a skill, a counter will appear in the center of your four skills, this is the combo counter. You can keep hitting the enemy for extra damage or to break him (further explained below). You can even switch characters mid-combo to actually do combination skills! You can access the battle menu by pressing start. From here, you can use items, shift or switch. Even run from battle or see a list of your combination skills. Items, as mentioned above, consume AP too. How much depends on the item. You can see the AP value on the item screen. Shifting is moving a character along your battle grid. You can't cross into the enemy's and they can't cross into yours, of course. You spend AP while shifting equal to 2.5% of your character's level. Which is nothing at the beginning but will gradually ramp up. Switching is basically taking a character (a live one) out of battle in exchange of someone in your reserves. It also costs AP. What's this about BREAK, BURST and DOWN? Enemies (well, even you) have 3 gauges besides their HP one; one with those names. As you damage those meters (the damage depends on the skills-- ALL skills hurt BREAK, some will also hurt BURST or DOWN), the gauges will deplete. And what's the point of depleting those meters? When you deplete the BREAK meter, the character(s) involved in the attack will restore their AP value. Breaking the BURST or DOWN gauges will increase the damage of attacks from that type. And... Something else about combinations I'll explain shortly. Skills have a type, besides that whole Break and stuff. They are A-type, B-Type, C-Type, D-Type for normal attacks. Other kind of attacks have RNG-type. And finally, magic skills have Ae-Type, Be-Type, all the way to He-Type. Furthermore, among each type there are different levels. The A~D-type skills go from level 1 to level 5. The RNG and Enchant types go from 1 to 3 only. What does that mean? Well, it matters for combinations. For example, using a C-1 skill and a C-2 will create an ATK1-type combo. Oh yeah, combination skills also have types, but don't worry too much about those yet. However, C-1 and D-2 for example, won't work. A simple combo can be C-1, C-2 to create an ATK1. Then you can do C-1 and C-2 again for an ATK2. (And no, doing that again won't create an ATK3, you would need a C-2 and C-3) You could also do C-1 and C-2 for an ATK1, and then do A-1 and A-2 for an ATK2. The order of the skills doesn't matter (you can do C2 and C1 if you wanted), but doing a wrong move will reset the combination list. Combination skills also have those BREAK, DOWN and BURST types. And why does that matter? Normally, combination skills do a certain amount of hits. If you BREAK the enemy, all your combos will hit more times. ALL combos. Say however, you BURST break and enemy before you BREAK him. Then combination skills of BURST-type will hit more times, but DOWN-type skills won't. So DOWN-breaking and BREAKing an enemy will give me even MORE hits? No. It's only one or the other. BREAK is the universal attribute, sort of. Finally. If you keep hitting an enemy when it's dead, the HP bar will change to the Overkill bar. If you fill that bar, you will get an extra item from the enemy. In order to fill it, you have to deal the original HP of the enemy once it's dead. So, if an enemy has 100 HP. Once you bring it to 0, you have to do 100 more to OK him. Say the enemy has 200 HP, but only 50 left. You must hit him for 50 to kill it, then finally do 200 more to OK him. You'll get the hang of it as you play. What about stats? Well, the simple way to look at them... STR = 7 ATK and .5 HIT. VIT = 3 DEF. AGI = .5 AVD. INT = 6 MAG and 4 RST. LCK = .5 HIT and .5 AVD. VIT will also increase the HP you get on higher levels. Your HP growth is determined by (Level+VIT)*2. This only works up to a certain level, from there on it will only be your VIT*2. Don't worry though, you can easily hit the max HP of 99,999 even with low VIT by lv500 or so. AGI is also used to determine which side goes first on a round. .~O?.. .~NI88: .ODI+$?. .Z?7777O ,OI+=I$. .?I77II?. +7II??$.O77778.. +-----8DII$777$Z-------------------------------------------------------------+ | ..88II7DM. 01.04. OI. .+IIM. .O?II The synthesis system is a good way to upgrade your equipment. ?OOI Short of overkilling every single boss you find. Z$. Using Marie's Atelier you can create weapons, armor, accessories and items. All using certain materials that you can get from other enemies, or by "breaking" weapons/armors/accessories. As you get Synth Recipes, more and more items will appear in the list so that you can actually synthesize them if you have the necessary materials. Then there's the Upgrade system. Here, you spend EP to "level up" items. All items start at lv1, and can be upgraded 4 times to lv5. Each level increases the stats of the items by a certain amount. Of special importance here is the AP. Also, once an item is lv5, you can then "upgrade" it once more to convert it to another item. What item depends on the weapon/armor/accessory. It can be items used to created better weapons, or active skills which you can equip to increase your stats. Finally, the composite item. Each item has a particular GRADE number. You can then use items (mostly those you get from enemies, but some other too) to further increase the stats of the item. Each item uses a certain amount of GRADE and increases the stats of the item by a fixed amount. You can reset the item to its default value, but you will lose any items used while compositing, so be careful. _______________________________________________________________________________ --------------------------------02. For this first battle, you don't have much choice besides spamming Quick Shot with York. Ending your turn when you can't anymore, then rinse and repeat. If you don't have enough AP, you can just end your turn ahead of time to get more AP for the next, just remember you have a limit to just how much AP you can acrue. -[World Map]-[Souls: 2]- You'll be on the main map then. Move up to the little circle that says Event and enter "Anfir Field". You'll find May, who'll explain a bit about what's going on, sort of. You'll now be able to search for souls. As the instructions say, press Square while on the world map, and a small animation will play. If you find anything in the search, it will pop up. Do note you can also uncover events this way. So, how about we start searching already? Back on the map, head slightly southwest. Do you see that little patch of forest by the edge (No, don't cross to that little floating island, the patch that was where you started)? Search it to find a Soul who will reward you with GRASS x2, HERB x2, and WIND ELEMENT x2. While you are moving around, you'll notice that little blue-square like at the top right that will gradually turn yellow then red. When you get closer to red, it means a fight is incoming. You can also jump into battle with R1. Now, from where the last event occurred, move slightly north and search again to find an event, "Ancient Town of Myr". You'll find Marie in there, who will join you then. Be sure to add her in the Formation menu on the main menu. Now, with that... tablet thing in the map out of the way, move forward. But slightly northwest of it, search again for another Soul. This one will reward you with GRAVISTONE x2, BLESSING LEAF x1, and SILVER ORE x2. For now, feel free to go to the town that says Event, the Myr Suburb Mansion. This is your first "Save Point." If you haven't saved already, access the menu by hitting Triangle, then go into Battle Diary. Do note that, contrary to the name of these places, you can save at anytime in the overworld map. As to what you can do here... Well, you can buy items and all that stuff. The weapons are the same that you have, basically, so don't bother. If you want to compare, hit the Square button and a list of your characters along with any chances for the selected weapon will appear. If the change is in blue, it means a decrease. Green means increase. If you want more armor, only the Silverthread will boost it by a few points, so you might want to save your Gold for now. In the customization room you can upgrade gear and stuff by the use of EP, which you get after battles and other things. Not much to do right now, unless you really want to upgrade your starting gear, which is useful if you are playing on Hard. Area Search is basically a giant search around the place, but it costs you TP and honestly, that's what this guide is for. The Medical Room is for resurrecting dead allies, which will drop you some Gold. When you are done here, feel free to leave. Go north of the Mansion and search for an event, "Nephyis Cliff". You'll find Lyner here, who will then also join you. Barely started, and already 5 members... Make up your new battle formation and fight off the 3 Helldogs and the Hornet. Cutscene in another place, where the triplets are apparently not happy with our presence. -[Post: Nephyis Cliff]-[Souls: 1]- Now, go into that patch that looks like a desert. Go northwest of it, near the forest and search for a Soul, who will reward you with SILVERTHREAD, VIT UP, and EARTH ELEMENT x2. Be sure to give someone the Silverthread for more defense. Then search the middle of the desert to find the "Ferna Sara" event. If you are playing on Hard, I suggest you fight a bit more first. You'll fight quite a few enemies in this event, so you might want to be level 3 across the board, at least. And be sure to use your EX Skills. Personally, just wait the first turn. Then, do Sonic Blast on the front line with Miko and Morrigan. Quickly do it again (just be sure to use both girls while attacking). Eventually, the Hornets will Guard Break by the 2nd Sonic Blast, giving one of the girls full AP, which you can use to deal a 3rd Sonic Blast, probably destroying the first line. By this time, you should have 2 SP slots, which you can use with Lyner and York to finish the Imps individually. -[Post: Ferna Sara]-[Souls: 2]- I will suggest you switch someone for one of the girls. You are going to need a bit of magical power not too far from now, and you might as well start leveling one-- you know, faster than leaving her on reserve. Aurica also has a healing skill, in case you are interested. Now, go past that stone tablet that disappeared. Stick to the edge of the world. Now, you see those little forest patches that are out of the main forest body? Past the first two of those, start searching near the circular forest patch to find a soul with LUCK RING, GRASS x2, and SERUM POWDER. Keep moving northwest. You see those two little forest patchs to the left? If you stand right of them, near the huge forests, you can search for another Save Point. Go to the far left and search for another soul; ZWEIHANDER, and MAX HP UP. Be sure to equip the Zweihander to Lyner if you are using him. Go slightly north of the last Save Point into the forest and search for an event, "Len Forest". Ayatane will join you here, who you will then have to use in a battle against 2 Vampire Bats, 2 Imps and a Sorcerer. For this battle, I suggest you use Lyner, York, and one of the two singing girls. Enemies are too apart in order to effectively use Morrigan or Miko, and while Aurica's area spell won't get many, except for an imp and a sorcerer, she can still hold her own here. Your first priority is taking out the sorcerer. If you get the last round, you might as well wait it and get more AP. As usual though, if you do the double round, expect the enemy to return in kind, so be ready. Small cinema about May releasing a soul and then some more dialogue. -[Post: |
