Besides with "mothership zeta" once you activate the quest "not of this world" a map marker will lead to the crash site.

the ammo will be laying on the ground near where the crash site is, they can be easily spotted at night since they are somewhat fluorescent. There are 10 different ammo cartridges containing 12 alien power cells each scattered around the crash site. Note that if you have mothership zeta or if you are playing the game of the year version as you approach the crash site you will be beamed up aboard the mothership and the crashed ship will not be there. Once you've completed the mothership zeta questline you'll be able to pick up the alien blaster along with the ammo for it. Extra alien power cells can be found at fort bannister in some ammo boxes, if you have broken steel some can be found in Olney powerworks, in the armory in the mobile crawler in Adams air force base and in the citadel, if you blow it up. Of course you can find lots of alien power cells inside the mothership zeta all throughout the ship. The blaster itself can be repaired with alien epoxy also found on the mothership. Once you have finished the mothership zeta questline returning there every 24 hours or so you will be given various loot by either sally or elliot including epoxy but sadly however they'll never give you alien power cells.

Actually, when i said that i meant the Alien Crash site to obtain the alien blaster right away and be over powered till you run out of ammo. That was before Mothership Zeta ever came out. You can still go straight there and complete the DLC at low levels, but you'll be restricted mostly to the weapons you'll find onboard the mothership to fight your way through. You should invest in energy weapons to make your character more deadly with the alien weapons. By selecting "Not of this World" as your current quest you'll have a map-marker leading you right to crash site, which is a ways North from Megaton it might take you half a day in game to reach it. As you make your way North you should come across the MDPL-13 power station which is directly south of the crash site, if so then you are getting close. If you reach the clifftop shacks then you've gone too far. You'll know when you are there when you start taking 1rad/sec walk around a little bit until you get abducted. Don't be surprised that when the cutscene shifts to the aliens um.....probing you that the game freezes the first time, it has always froze the first time i got beamed up per character so you should save right before you start taking 1rad/sec so you don't have to backtrack to your last auto-save. The game only freezes that one time, after you reload it shouldn't happen anymore.

D(own)L(oadable)C(ontent), on the game of the year edition of Fallout 3 you have all the extra content on it, Broken Steel, operation: anchorage, the Pitt, Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta. Before the game of the year edition was released the extra content was only available for download online, on XB(ox)L(ive) or the P(lay)S(tation)N(etwork) as DLCs or add-ons in some cases.

so is the alien crash site only on the game of the year edition? with the exception of me downloading the extra content online

no the alien crash site was and is in the original game, so if you don't have mothership zeta the crashed ship will appear as i've described in my first post. If you have mothership Zeta once you arrive at the crash site, the ship won't be there (but the blaster will) and you'll get abducted.

ya so probably no 1 will anser me but is there many mutants/raiders/ghouls/super mutants or in general red dots on your map to get there from DC

Depends on a few things, where are you in DC, what level are you and can you fast travel. For argument's sake let's assume you are not gonna fast travel and your starting from Rivet City. You'll be using the subways to get out of DC, so you'll encounter Ghouls, maybe some raiders and muties. Once you reach Megaton and head North, depending on your level you'll either encounter Mole Rats/Dogs/Radscorpions at low levels. At higher levels you'll encounter Giant Radscorpions/Yao Guais and maybe a Deathclaw or two. Keep in mind that if you have the DLCs some of the Giant scorps might be replaced by Albinos, same with ghouls you might run into reavers along the way but that's only at high levels. It's hard to predict, since you could use the same route to go there several times without ever encountering the same amount/types of enemies. Usually starting from Megaton there aren't many enemies along the way, maybe half a dozen encounters, but it varies.
