Take ED-E with you to either Old Lady Gibson, Michael Angelo on the strip or Doctor Henry
in Jacobstown and speak with that NPC, it should jog ED-E's memory chip data and he'll
play an audio log.

Then you'll have to wait several in-game days.

Then either speak with Ignacio Rivas at HELIOS one, Michael Angelo, Doctor Henry or
Quartermaster Mayes at Camp Forlorn Hope to trigger the 2nd audio log.

Wait a couple more days.

Then you'll receive 2 messages from NPCs through ED-E, you'll might have to "talk" to ED-E
to receive those messages.

Before handing ED-E over make sure you empty his inventory otherwise you'll lose whatevert
he's carrying at the time. Then decide where you want to take ED-E, if you take him to the
BoS he'll get an armor upgrade (+8 DT), if you take him to the FoA he'll get a weapons
upgrade, practically twice as powerful.

Wait a couple of days and ED-E will be back in Primm.

There are A LOT of bugs with this quest, like for ex: if you already spoke with the
aformentioned NPCs the audio log might not trigger. I had to speak to Doctor Henry the
first time to trigger the 1st audio log since i had already spoken with Old Lady Gibson,
and for the 2nd audio log i had to speak with Michael Angelo, since Doctor Henry would not
trigger the 2nd one.

Also be prepared to wait up to 10 in-game days for the first wait period. The second wait
period is about 2-3 days and the third is 4-5 days wait.

when you go to prim lookin the buildings untill you find him broken if your repair skill
is high inought you can fix him

i think the OP meant how to upgrade ed-e not just get him as a follower. after you fix him
he can be upgraded following the step by step deoraven wrote. i just checked this thread
out cuz i was wondering how to get an upgrade and the step by step is deadon.
