INTRODUCTION - G0300 =============================================================================== =============================================================================== Hello and welcome to joint project between IceQueenZer0 and Split Infinity! Final Fantasy XIII has been released on 17th December 2009 in Japan. At this moment this guide is based on Japanese version of the game, but fret not. Once the US and PAL versions are out, the guide will be updated accordingly. Here's explanation of some things: - Spoiler issue - we're the players of the game, just like you (who is reading this guide) are. First time we've played through the game was completely by ourselves - therefore nothing was spoiled for us. All the story elements that were supposed to surprise us had such effect. Hence why we will not include any spoilers (except names of cities, dungeons and NPCs you must address to continue the storyline). - Split will be using abbreviations a lot. With a guide covering a massive game from Final Fantasy series it is to be expected. - Ice Queen will be handling mostly the tidbits info such as items, enemy info, mission info, weapon info, etc. Now let's begin the guide to latest final fantasy, Final Fantasy XIII! =============================================================================== =============================================================================== 04.) VIDEO REFERENCES - G0600 =============================================================================== =============================================================================== For those who require help in getting thru the game further than what the walkthru covers, here's something you could definitely use. I've made a video playthru of the entire game from start to finish. It's available here: http://www.youtube.com/SplitPlaythru =============================================================================== =============================================================================== 07.) WALKTHROUGH - G0700 =============================================================================== =============================================================================== Okay, folks, before we begin, there are a couple of things you should know about this game, because they're radically different from other games in FF series so far. - STOCKPILE ALL POWER AND BARRIER SMOKES YOU COME UPON. They're invaluable in some boss battles at later chapters in the game, where they can easily save you lots of time you'd otherwise spend casting buffs in battle. - You will see all enemies onscreen. It is possible to avoid some encounters, but some you will have to fight. - After the battle is won, you get: a) items, which are dropped by enemies (there's no Steal command) b) CP, which are used to purchase upgrade nodes in Crystarium c) TP, which are used to trigger special commands during battle (Libra, Quake, Full Cure and few others) - After battle is won, you will be given a star ranking. Star rank depends on: TARGET TIME - time alloted for taking out all enemies INITIATIVE BONUS - point multiplier (with PS you get x1,2 multiplier) BATTLE DURATION - how quickly you defeated all enemies POINTS PER SECOND - self-explanatory Points awarded depend on how quickly you took out the enemies, damage incurred/taken, and some other factors. - Star ranking has three uses: a) beating last boss with five stars gives you a trophy b) beating all Missions with five stars gives you a PS3 theme and a trophy c) it influences spoils obtained after battle - Your HP is completely recovered after each battle. - There are only three chrs' stats - HP, STR, and MAG. - There are only two types of equipment - weapons and accessories. - You can store a maximum of 999999 CP, the rest is then wasted. - EXP exists, but it is used for leveling up your equipment. EXP IS NOT GAINED BY WINNING BATTLES! - The game is extremely linear. Chapters 1~10, as well as 12~13 have you going on a set path, with a little detours that usually lead to fighting more enemies or finding a treasure. Chapter 11 is the only one with a rather large area to explore, but even that is not as large as you'd expect. - There is no NPC interactivity, and there is no town interactivity. Yes, you get to access three cities, but only during the storyline. - Save points allow you to: a) save your game b) purchase stuff in shops (more shops become available later in the game) c) upgrade/disassemble equipment (available later in the game) - You can quit to title screen anytime while not in battle by pressing Start, then Select, and choosing 'Yes'. - You can restart *any* battle in the game by pressing Start, then Select, then choosing top option, and choosing 'Yes'. You will be returned to the map just before entering the battle. - If your leader is KOed, it is game over. Choose top option to restart the battle by being returned to the map just before entering the battle. If you choose bottom option, you will be returned to title screen. - You will be forced to play with fixed parties until the end of CH10. - NEVER SELL ANY ACCESSORIES. Several accessories exist in limited quantities, and if you sell them, you're hosed (until established otherwise!). - If you fight all battles as you go thru chapters, there should never be the need to grind for CP as you will usually get enough CP to purchase all upgrade nodes in Crystarium. - Take care if you want to get all enemy entries - some enemies spawn other enemies into battle, but they will never get the chance to do so if you kill them too quickly. - Pressing R1 during battle will access Libra screen of all enemies in battle. - Eventually you'll be able to assign roles to the characters. a) ATTACKER / COMMANDO - excels at physical combat b) BLASTER / RAVAGER - excels at magical combat c) DEFENDER / SENTINEL - draws enemy's attention and acts as a tank d) JAMMER / SABOTEUR - pesters enemies with negative statuses e) ENHANCER / SYNERGIST - protects the party with positive statuses f) HEALER / MEDIC - excels at healing the party and reviving KOed allies Note: Names on right will likely be names of roles when game is localized. - The rest of the stuff will be introduced during the course of walkthru. It's also worth mentioning options in config. - 1st option is camera type. [X axis normal; Y axis inverted] [X axis normal; Y axis normal] [X axis inverted; Y axis inverted] [X axis inverted; Y axis normal] - 2nd option is EVENT SUBTITLES. Choose or . - 3rd option is SPEAKER'S NAME. Choose or . - 4th option is NON-EVENT SUBTITLES. Choose or . - 5th option is BATTLE SPEED. Choose or . - 6th option is DEFAULT BATTLE COMMAND. Choose or . - 7th option is TARGET SELECTION. Choose or . - 8th option is BATTLE HELP MESSAGES. Choose or . - 9th option is BRIGHTNESS. CHAPTER 01 ========================================================= CHAPTER 01 WLK01 HANGING EDGE GUIDE CHAPTER 01 ========================================================= CHAPTER 01 Enjoy the introduction scene. Not too short afterwards you're thrust into your first battle. =====---------------------------------------------------------------------===== Hanging Edge - Aerorail Trussway 13-E =====---------------------------------------------------------------------===== ---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ---------------------------------- ACTIVE TIME BATTLE TUTORIAL ---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ---------------------------------- In lower left corner of battle screen you have the following: a) ATB gauge, which currently consists of only two segments. b) List of commands. Currently you only have three: - Auto-battle will have AI choose the most appropriate action. - Abilities lets you choose commands you want to use. - Items lets you use available battle items. ATBG slowly fills from left to right. Once it is full, your leader will execute inputted commands in the order listed above the ATBG. Most commands cost one segment of ATBG, though you will also access commands which take 2, 3 or all segments of ATBG. Once you choose Auto-battle, you will have to choose the target you want to attack. Currently there's only one enemy, so choose its name and let it rip. If you choose Abilities, you can then choose which commands you want your chr to execute. Each command is added to ATBG, and you can add as many commands as there are available segments. Greyed out commands cannot be added to ATBG. Once you've selected your commands, the game will provide you with a list of possible targets. There's only one enemy, so choose its name and let it rip. Maximum amount of segments you can obtain is six - thus four more. Two are obtained during course of the game, one can be bought by purchasing relevant upgrade nodes (more on that later), and last can be obtained by upgrading chr's weapon to its maximum tier (more on that later). In lower right corner of battle screen you have several pieces of info: a) Chr's name b) Chr's current HP (if it drops to zero, chr is KOed) c) A green bar representing ratio of chr's current to MAX HP In upper right corner of the screen you have a Stagger Gauge of the targeted enemy. The game will explain it later in the game in CH1, so don't concern with it just yet. GAME'S TUTORIAL... Time flows continuously throughout battle. Watch as your ATB gauge slowly charges. Chrs perform actions by expending charges ATB gauge segments. The actions which they perform depend on the commands you select. You can input entire strings of commands, then unleash them all at once. Selectu Auto-battle to queue up a set of commands tailored to your situation. Select Abilities to specific individual commands as you see fit. A description of each command will be displayed at the top of the screen. For now, try selecting the Auto-battle command. Move the cursor to Auto-battle, then press Action button to select it. Two Attack actions have just been placed in your command queue. As you learn new abilities, you will use commands other than attack. It will also become possible to create longer strings of commands. Next, you will need to choose the target of your attacks. When fighting multiple enemies, select your target using left analog and then press Action to confirm it. You only face one enemy this time, so the choice is simple. Press Action to confirm your target, and you will execue your two Attack commands immediately. Once you have finished your attacks, enter more commands and continue fighting until you have defeated the enemy. Note that you will only be able to control the actions of Lightning. Sazh will fight on hiw own, supporting her as he deems best. GOOD LUCK! FROM HERE ON OUT, HOW YOU FIGHT IS UP TO YOU! ---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ---------------------------------- LIBRA SCREEN TUTORIAL ---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ---------------------------------- By pressing R1 you can access Libra screen of all enemies you're fighting and haven't been defeated yet. The screen is setup like this: a) Top left corner has: - Enemy's name - Enemy's current / MAX HP (by reducing current HP to zero enemy is KOed) - Enemy's level b) Upper right corner lists negative statuses enemy is immune to. From left to right you have: - Deprotect (take more physical damage) - Deshell (take more magical damage) - Slow (enemy's ATBG fills 50% slower) - Poison (continuous damage over time) - Imperil (fire, water, thunder and ice resistances down by 1 rank) - Curse (enemy's attacks interrupted harder, own attacks interrupted easier) - Pain (cannot use physical abilities) - Fog (cannot use magical abilities) - Daze (cannot move, receive much higher damage from next attack) - Death (instant KO) - Dispel (remove the latest buff/debuff applied [rightmost one]) - Provoke (you can't see it, though) c) On left side of the screen you have the following: - CHAIN RESISTANCE (how resilient the enemy is against chaining) - STAGGER POINT (amount of Stagger you must inflict before enemy staggers) - COMMON DROP is item which is dropped most of time - RARE DROP is item which is rarely dropped d) On right side of the screen you have enemy's vulnerabilities to six elements, as well as physical and magical attacks. There are six types of affinities the enemy can sport and they are: a) WHITE - none (takes full damage of the attack) b) BLUE - weakness (takes double damage from such attack) c) YELLOW - half (takes 50% less damage from such attack) d) ORANGE - resistant (damage from such attack is reduced by 90%) e) RED - immunity (takes no damage from such attack [word GUARD appears]) f) PURPLE - absorption (attack heals enemy - 30% of the usual damage) recovery) e) On bottom of the screen you have four lines of enemy information, which may provide hints as to how to battle the enemy efficiently, or warn you of enemy's special abilities. Libra screen is very useful and should be referred to often. Whenever you press R1 and you access Libra screen of the enemy you haven't fought yet, everything will be filled with question marks. You need to fight this enemy a couple of times before the entries fill up with relevant information. Alternatively you can use Libra Scope item which scans all enemies in battle and reveals all info. Third way is using Libra technique (more on this later). Just as you can attack enemies and sometimes prevent them from their attack going off, they can do the same to you. There are a couple of variations of how can enemies forbid or inhibit your movement. - knock your chr to the ground, after which he/she will stand up - launch your chr in the air, then he/she comes crashing down, and will stand up after a few seconds - Daze status prevents your chr from moving, and causes next attack received to inflict greater damage - Fog status prevents your chr from using attacks of magical nature - Pain status prevents your chr from using attacks of physical nature - when hit, your chr will often stagger a little, but not enough to be knocked on the ground ------------------------ HERE COMES A NEW CHALLENGER! ------------------------- No001ab Manasvin Warmech T: Militarized Unit S: Annihilator --------------------------------- STATISTICS ---------------------------------- LVL | HP | CHAIN | STGGR | CP | STR | MAG | LPS | KEV | LAUNCH 75 | 360 | 0 | 300% | - | 15 | 15 | 1000 | 85 | no a 75 | 990 | 0 | 300% | - | 15 | 15 | 1000 | 85 | no b ---------------------------- ATTACK VULNERABILITIES --------------------------- FIRE | ICE | THUNDER | WATER | WIND | EARTH | PHYSICAL| MAGICAL - | - | weak | weak | - | - | - | - ------------------------------ STATUS AFFINITIES ----------------- PROVOKE: 30 DEPR | DESH | SLOW | POSN | IMPE | CURS | PAIN | FOG | DAZE | DETH | DSPL 30 | 30 | -99 | imm | 30 | 30 | 30 | -99 | imm | imm | 0 NORMAL ----------------------------- ITEMS ------------------------------- RARE 6x Potion - 100% | - --------------------------------- HINTS & TIPS -------------------------------- Unremarkable. ------------------------------- ADDITIONAL NOTES ------------------------------ None ---------------------------------- SKILL LIST --------------------------------- a|b| x| |01. 'Attack' - phd x|x|02. 'Tail laser' - thunder phd |x|03. Wave Cannon - phd ------------------------------ GET READY! FIGHT! ------------------------------ Not hard at all - you can either stand back and let Sazh shoot it off or join him in the fray by choosing Auto-battle. The mech has two attacks - with first it tries to swipe at you with saw arms, and with other it shoots you with a beam in case you hold back and let Sazh do the attacking. Should your HP run low, don't hesitate to use a Potion. Potions recover HP for the entire party and you start with 10 Potions. After removing its 360 HPs it comes back for second round. Now it gets a bit more challenging. Enemy will shoot you with Wave Cannon at start of battle - Lightning can take two such attacks before it would be a wise idea to heal yourself. It retains the tail beam attack from previous battle, too. It'll use it three times, before shooting Wave Cannon again. ------------------ CONGRATULATIONS! YOU ARE LIGHTNINGTORIOUS! ----------------- After the battle you're awarded with 6x Potion. ---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ---------------------------------- CAMERA CONTROL TUTORIAL ---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ---------------------------------- Choose the appropriate camera setting for yourself (mainly for upskirt shots of Lightning, Vanille and Fang), which would be third option. By advancing the storyline or meeting special requirements you will obtain entries into your DATALOG. ---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ---------------------------------- MAIN MENU TUTORIAL ---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ---------------------------------- Your main menu currently has seven entries. Advancing the game will add two more submenus - however, I'll include them now (but the explanations will come when required!). a) PARADIGMS (obtained and explained later in the game) b) STATUS (view the status of party members) c) CRYSTARIUM (obtained and explained later in the game) d) ABILITIES (view abilities your chrs have learned) e) EQUIPMENT (view and change equipment of chrs) f) INVENTO |
