The battle begins with a tutorial intended to teach you about the basics of combat in Final Fantasy XIII. Example of the Battle Interface _______________________________________________________________________ | | | _____________ | | |_____________|(3) | | 102.3% Bonus | | | | (\--/) | | ( * * ) | | ---- | | \| "|\ | | | | | | || | | -;- | | ( * * ) O | | ---- -#- O | | \| "|\ / \ -;- | | | | / \ | | || | | | | ___________________________________ | | |________|________|________|________| (1) | | ------- | | | Auto | | | | Command > | Lighting 100 HP | | | TP Ability | (2) Sazh 80 HP | | | Items | | | ------- | | | |_______________________________________________________________________| 1. ATB Gauge ============ The ATB gauge lets you perform each action based on how many Action Points you have. 2. Commands =========== Add an action input into the ATB gauge for Queue. 3. Combo Gauge ============== Lets the player know how many chains the character is performing, when the chain reach it's cap, the monster will go into a state of Break. During Stagger (AKA Break in Japanese) you can output from 2x to 10x damage. Chain ------- The Combo Streak happens when continuous successive attacks are dealt to the same enemy. The longer the chain is held, the stronger each attack is. When the chain exceeds the Limit, the monster will go into a state called "Stagger" which allows your character to increase the damage output of up to 10x. (It is impossible to defeat certain enemies without chaining) Basic Battle Tutorial --------------------- Battles work very similar to Final Fantasy X-2, where all of the actions in battle are done in real time. Because its generally the natural evolution of the ATB system, you need to be sure you pick your commands quickly. Each command requires a certain amount of Action Points (AP). Each part of the of the ATB Gauge is 1AP, so you can only perform as much as your ATB Gauge can hold. The ATB gauge is constantly filling, which adds strategy depending on how much time you have to wait. Once you have selected your commmand its added to a queue. By pressing the triangle button each action is subsequently executed. ======================================= =================== Chapter 1: Hanged Edge AA1 =================== ======================================== BOSS FIGHT _______________________________________________________________ | Manasvin Warmech |HP : 360 |Break %: 300% | |===============================================================| | Item Drop: Potion | Rare Drop: N/A | --------------------------------------------------------------- _______________________________________________________________ | Manasvin Warmech |HP : 990 |Break %: 300% | |===============================================================| | Item Drop: Potion | Rare Drop: N/A | --------------------------------------------------------------- You'll fight a boss as soon as the game starts, don't worry too much. You can now use magic attacks under your Blaster/Ravager Optima. It is very important to have a blaster in your party. Because Blaster can increase the chain guage very quickly but also require an Attacker/Commando to keep the duration of the chain. Keep your Optima balance and battles should be a breeze. The Water Stilled ====================================== Party: Lighting (Leader) Snow Vanille As you progress, the path will split in two. Head for the Left path to pick up a Pearl Wing (weapon) for Vanille. Then Continue on forward with the save point path. You'll see a broken ledge. Jump over it and head to the next map. You will see a cutscene and an event battle with Psicom soldier. Treasure in this map are usually found in a dead end. Head towards your destination and there should be a save point near it. Enter the next map and watch the cutscene, a boss battle will follow. BOSS FIGHT _______________________________________________________________ |Manasvin Warmech |HP : 32400 |Break %: 160% | |===============================================================| | Item Drop: Digital Circuits | Rare Drop: None | --------------------------------------------------------------- Recommended Optima/Paradigm : Attacker/Blaster/Blaster Attacker/Defender/Healer Attacker/Blaster/Healer ===============================About Break===================================== At the start of the battle. The game allows you to know the basic of BREAK. Break is the state of when you exceed the monster's chain limit. During Break the damage multiplier is increase double and can be increase up to ten times the damage before the Break ends. Chain is best increase with an Attacker(Commando) and Blaster (Ravager) combination. Because Attackers can keep combo duration and Blaster help increase the Chain. =============================================================================== Manasvin got qutie a bit of HP and can hit pretty hard. But its a really easy boss battle. Use a combination of Attacker and Blaster so that Manasvin goes into break. Because Manasvin laser and crystal swing attacks hits pretty hard. You will need to have more then 200 HP at all times. Use a combination with a Defender and a Healer once your HP is not full. Repeat back the pattern and Manasvin should go down on the fourth Break. ====================================== Party: Lighting (Leader) Vanille Sazh Snow will leave the party after this boss fight. Reorganise your optimas and Crystarium with your new party. Keeping heading forward till you see a pillar of a broken machine (Appears as a Brown Dot in the map). Examine it and it will activate a machine gun that will destroy a wall of ice. Once you head past the area, you will have to fight a Behemoth. BOSS FIGHT _______________________________________________________________ |Strength Behemoth |HP : 20250 |Break %: 500% | |===============================================================| | Item Drop: Dirty Claw | Rare Drop: Beast's Claw | --------------------------------------------------------------- Recommended Optima/Paradigm : Attacker/Blaster/Blaster Attacker/Blaster/Healer =================================About TP====================================== TP (Tactical Points) are accumulated points that can be used for TP Abilities. Tp ability are used for actions that can completely change the outcome of battle. Ability such as summoning or even stopping the enemy completely are require by using TP. TP is only fill by defeating enemies and winning battles. So use your TP Ability wisely. =============================================================================== Strength Behemoth is a very easy boss, just use the Attacker and Blaster combo until it breaks. You can also use the TP ability Libra to scan the Behemoth's weakness and properties. (By Studying a the full property of a 100 Monsters you can unlock the Loremaster trophy.) *** Note *** The Spark Ring is one of the few elemental rings you will aquire through out the game. Do not sell any of the elemental rings if you want the Treasure Hunter Trophy (Acheivement). Because they are not sold in shops and can be used to upgrade to a different ring through Synthesis. ************ Now thats done head to the destination area it will lead to a temple. There's a shortcut near the save point that allow you to avoid the Psicom Soldiers. when you reach to the actual destination , you 'll be fighting a boss. ------------------ | Item Checklist | |============================================================== |[ ] 600 Gil |[ ] Millerite | |[ ] Digital Circuit x 2 |[ ] Ferroelectrics | |[ ] Dirty Claws x 7 |[ ] Phoenix Down | |[ ] Spark Ring |[ ] Librascope x 3 | ------------------------------- ------------------------------ BOSS FIGHT _______________________________________________________________ |Garuda Interceptor |HP : 8000 |Break %: 170% | |===============================================================| | Item Drop: None | Rare Drop: None | --------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT _______________________________________________________________ |Garuda Interceptor (Phase 2) |HP : 16200 |Break %: 300% | |===============================================================| | Item Drop: Silver Bangle | Rare Drop: None | --------------------------------------------------------------- Recommended Optima/Paradigm : Attacker/Blaster/Blaster Attacker/Blaster/Healer Quite a simple boss. The first phase is really easy and can be easily go break. Vanille's Aero spell is also very effective against it. The moment you do 8000 HP, a cutscene will occur and you'll be fighting a stronger version of Garuda. The second phase starts with a barrier that can reduce the damage greatly. Once Enough damage is dealt, the barrier will disappear which is the best chance to attack it. After the battle is over, you will unlock the Role "Jammer" for Vanille, "Enchancer" for Sazh and a level up for Crystarium. ====================================== Party: Snow (Leader) After the cutscenes that game will shift back to Snow's point of view. You be fighting your first Eidolon battle. BOSS FIGHT _______________________________________________________________ |Shiva "Nix" |HP :Unlimited |Break ???% | |===============================================================| | Item Drop: None | Rare Drop: None | --------------------------------------------------------------- _______________________________________________________________ |Shiva "Styria " |HP :Unlimited |Break ???% | |===============================================================| | Item Drop: None | Rare Drop: None | --------------------------------------------------------------- ===============================About Eidolon Battles=========================== As soon as the battle starts the Eidolon will cast Death Sentence on your Leader. You have a limited of time to defeat the Eidolon before the timer runs out. The objective in all Eidolon battles is to fill the drive guage and press the square button when its full. The Drive Guage is filled up by different task , by either taking damage, Chaining or other parameters. =============================================================================== Recommended Optima/Paradigm : Defender The best choice in this battle is to use the Defender Optima. The Drive guage for this battle is filled when Nix does a series of combo and Styria will heal you right after. By using the Defender Optima you should able to stay alive long enough to have the Drive Guage fully filled. Remember to press Square button immediately when its full and victory is yours. ======================================= =================== Chapter 4: The Vile Peaks AD1 =================== ======================================= Chapter 4 will start with a event battle with 4 Garm Dogs. This battle should be a breeze. Watch the cutscene and you will have Sazh as your leader. Dismal Dunescape ====================================== Party: Sazh (Leader) Vanille Take control of Sazh and just head forward to your destination. The game will switch back to Lighting's point of view. Wrack and Ruin ====================================== Party: Lighting (Leader) Hope Head to your destination. There's only one treasure chest in this area. Lighting will leave Hope behind. ------------------ | Item Checklist | |=============================== |[ ] Librascope | ------------------------------- Another Man's Treasure ====================================== Party: Sazh (Leader) Vanille Hope The game is back to Sazh's party. Anyways this party is very difficult to kill mobs because the lack of an attacker role. So be cautious on your enemy encounter. There's couple switches in this area. You need to kill the monster first before you can examine them. With all the switches pulled you can head to your destinated area. Watch the cutscene and you will regroup with Hope. Continue on further and your party will regroup with Lighting. Lighting will replace Hope, so you will need to reorganise your Optimas. Head to the next area and examine the panel. The panel will draw out a bridge. A boss battle will be waiting in you. ------------------ | Item Checklist | |============================================================== |[ ] Black Belt |[ ] Metal Armband | |[ ] Ninurta |[ ] Librascope | |[ ] Phoenix Down |[ ] Ember Ring | ------------------------------- ------------------------------ BOSS FIGHT _______________________________________________________________ |Dreadnought |HP :17900 |Break 200% | |===============================================================| | Item Drop: None | Rare Drop: None | --------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT _______________________________________________________________ |Dreadnought (Phase 2) |HP :44850 |Break 200% | |===============================================================| | Item Drop: Customizing Kit | Rare Drop: None | --------------------------------------------------------------- Recommended Optima/Paradigm : Blaster/Blaster/Attacker Enchancer/Attacker/Healer Blaster/Blaster/Blaster Dreadnought is like most of the boss of the game. It hits hard. After a streaks of attacks the Drednought can use an energy attack that deals massive damage to a single target. The Drednought will go into cool down right after. I recommend using Blaster with Attacker Optima because it can increase the chain counter at the best rate to trigger Break. The enchancer roles is also pretty handy with the Brave spells but I recommend using the pure attacker combination. After dealing enough damage, the boss will go into it's second phase. The pattern is almost the same as the last one except with additional attacks. Watch out for it's missile attack because it deals massive damage to your party. After this battle you will unlock the Healer/Medic role for Lighting and as well the Attacker/Commando Role for Sazh. The game will also unlock the function to Synthesis on save points. ==================================UPGRADE==================================== You can now access Upgrade in Save Points. The main function of the Upgrade option is to upgrade your Weapons and Accessories by using parts for EXP. When the item reach to it's maxed level, you can evolve the item to another item by using a catalyst material. **** NOTE ***** The most efficient way to upgrade is to use lots of low Exp Junk Materials. After a sufficient amount is used, Exp multiplier will increase. (Up to 3 times) Once it is up to 3 times , use your expensive materials to upgrade your weapon. It is also recommended to upgrade when the weapon lv is low, that way you can get the most EXP out of the materials. *************** =============================================================================== Scavenger's Trail ====================================== Party: Lighting (Leader) Hope ------------------ | Item Checklist | |============================================================== |[ ] Optical Fiber x3 |[ ] Librascope | |--------------------------------------------------------------- |There's two treasure box that gives out different items based | |on your performance on the mini game with Hope earlier. | |==============================================================| | Treasure Box 1 | Treasure Box 2 | |[ ] Strong Leather X 20 |[ ] 100 Gil | |[ ] Thick Bones x 10 |[ ] 300 Gil | |[ ] Spark Ring | | |==============================================================| |[ ] Electric Holder X 2 |[ ] Phoenix Down | |[ ] Spark Ring | | ------------------------------- ------------------------------ After watching the cutscenes, you will take over Lighting's party. An event battle with three Psicom Soldiers will start. Wipe them out and head to next area. Another event battle will occur with two Psicom soldiers. Once the battle is finish, Hope will try to operate one of left over machines and you'll play a mini game. ==================================Mini Game 1================================== This mini game is very simple. The Construction Machine have 3 bars of energy and can be used to smash through walls and enemy soldiers by pressing the X(O) Button. When you finish this mini game, there will be two treasure box that contain different items based on your performances. =============================================================================== Head for your destination, there some tights spots in this area. So you have to be careful on your enemy encounter. After crossing through a small tunnel you will find a save point. Be prepare for your next boss battle. BOSS FIGHT _______________________________________________________________ |Odin |HP :Unlimited |Break ???% | |===============================================================| | Item Drop: None | Rare Drop: None | --------------------------------------------------------------- Recommended Optima/Paradigm : Healer/Healer Blaster/Blaster Healer/enchancer Before you start this battle. It is highly recommended to equip Spark Rings on both of your characters if you have them. Because Odin can deal seriously damage and can kill your party really quick. If you do not have the Spark Rings in your inventory then I recommend you to use a Aegisol and Fortisol (Pressing L1 before the boss fight). The main tactic is to always keep your HP full as possible and then switch to the blaster combination so you can build the drive guage. You must always keep both of your party members alive to have a chance in this battle. Once the drive guage is maxed, press the square button. scrap Processing ====================================== Party: Sazh (Leader) Vanille ------------------ | Item Checklist | |============================================================== |[ ] Auric Amulet |[ ] Fortisol | |[ ] Phoenix Down |[ ] 300 Gil | |[ ] Ember Ring |[ ] Vibrant Ooze X8 | |[ ] Phoenix Down |[ ] Iron Shell x8 | ------------------------------- ------------------------------ You'll take control of Sazh again. Head the elevator platform and press the switch to move to the other side. You will come across a circular pillar. Examine the four switch panels on each corner. Head to the destination and watch the cutscene. The game will show a flashback on Snow's Story. Find Lebreau at the bar counter and speak to her. Leave and find Serah at the beach port. ======================================= =================== Chapter 5: The Garpa Whitewoods AE1=================== ======================================= Ecological Research ====================================== Party: Hope (Leader) Lighting ------------------ | Item Checklist | |============================================================== |[ ] Hawkeye |[ ] Antidote X 3 | -------------------------------------------------------------- This place is pretty straight forward. However there is a lot of enemies of here so be prepare for battle. Find the elevator that takes you up. Each time when you head to next area, there's should be a cutscene, so you shouldn't be lost. In this area, there's an antidote located where alot of guards are. Once you're finish with this area. Take a different Elevator that takes you down. There's a weapon for Hope which is located near where the Behemoth is. Find the next elevator and you'll be on to the next area. Bioweapon Research Site D ====================================== ------------------ | Item Checklist | |=============================== |[ ] Antidote X 6 | ------------------------------- In this area you will have to defeat the monsters to disable the force field to advance to the next section. The first area requires you to defeat the 3 Silver Lobo to progress. Then the next require you to defeat 8 of them. There's also a treasure located next to where the Behemoth is. Head to the next area and watch the cutscene. ====================================== The Garpa Whitewoods : S Field ------------------ | Item Checklist | |============================================================== |[ ] Star Pendant |[ ] Fragrant Oil X 8 | |[ ] Edged Carbine |[ ] Watchman's Amulet | |[ ] 1500 GIL |[ ] Ethersol | -------------------------------------------------------------- Party: Lighting (Leader) Hope After the cutscene, you will gain control over Lighting again. Anyways repeat what you did in the last field. Defeat the enemies to disable the barrier. BOSS FIGHT _______________________________________________________________ |Aster Protoflorian |HP :129600 |Break 200% | |===============================================================| | Item Drop: Carbon Bangle | Rare Drop: None | --------------------------------------------------------------- Recommended Optima/Paradigm : Attacker/Blaster Healer/Healer Blaster/Blaster Healer/enchancer Attacker/Healer This boss is a little tricky on it's weakness. It can change base over time. When its on flame mode, using fire attacks will be absorp and ice attacks will become his weakness. So be keep a good check on what attacks its using. I Recommend using the TP skill Libra so your partner will use the correct attacks. Make sure you can Break him at least three times, if not then use your summon Odin to finish him off. ======================================= =================== Chapter 6: The Sunleth Waterscape AF1=================== ======================================= Ripairan Corridor ====================================== Party: Vanille (Leader) Sazh ------------------ | Item Checklist | |============================================================== |[ ] Mysterious Fluid X8 |[ ] Librascope | |[ ] Belladonna Wand |[ ] Scaled Wings X10 | |[ ] Procyon |[ ] Metal Band | |[ ] Doctor's Code |[ ] Aqua Ring | |[ ] Iron Shells x15 | | ------------------------------- ------------------------------ The Old Growth ====================================== This chapter is pretty straight forward. Keep advancing through this area until you a cutscene. Find Sazh in the same area. You can encounter some really strong shell monsters, that requires a bit of work to take them down. It will switch back to Lighting. ====================================== Party: Fang (Leader) Lighting Now you have Fang in your party. BOSS FIGHT _______________________________________________________________ | Ushumgal Subjugator |HP : 126000 |Break 150% | |===============================================================| | Item Drop: Myterious Wing | Rare Drop: None | --------------------------------------------------------------- Recommended Optima/Paradigm : Attacker/Blaster Healer/Defender Blaster/Blaster Attacker/Enchancer Defender/Enchancer This boss uses strong physical attacks and also have an area attack with fire. I highly recommend having Hope to use his Protect and Shell spell by using his Enchancer (Synergist) Optima. Once you have your status buffs on. Switch to using Attacker (Commando) and Blaster (Ravager) Optima to deal damage and switch back to Defender (Sentinel)and Healer (Medic) when you need to recover. Repeat this pattern till you can Break the Boss. I highly recommend using Revenge Mode in Defender Optima to maintain the high chain rate so you can Break the Boss. City of Palumparum: Waist Avenue ====================================== Party: Fang (Leader) Lighting ------------------ | Item Checklist | |=============================== |[ ] Beastial Claw X15 | |[ ] Gae Bolg | |[ ] Axis Blade | ------------------------------- Back to Fang's point of view.
