============================================================================= Versions [VER1] Version 1.51 - Got Chungarunga's name wrong the first time around. Since he is -the- major contributor to this FAQ, I had to straighten that out. Incredibly enough, Chungarunga managed to beat this game on the PS3 version without any kills. Go to the PS3 GTA4 boards (not the social ones) and search for crimeless. He has typed out all his strategies there, which I will verify work with the XBOX 360. Version 1.50 - Second version with these crime results at the end of the main storyline. I posted a theoretical minimum crime using Chungarunga's methods that he has used in the PS3 version in the Final Thoughts section. I quoted his methods and should be considered required reading if you are a purist for this challenge =] Further credit goes to Max_Power_9999 Which helped me with Bleed out for his call for backup solution, as well as Jamaican Heat for his car explosion method for killing targets without it counting against me. These methods undoubtedly will help serve future missions as well. Credit to LancetJades for pointing me in the right direction for the pacifist mission, as well as his contributions towards the community. Anyhoo, this version 1.50 ending stats: PEOPLE KILLED: 42 CARS STOLEN: 0 BIKES STOLEN: 0 BOATS STOLEN: 4 HELICOPTERS STOLEN: 1 STARS ATTAINED: 34 PEOPLE RUN DOWN: 0 FIRES STARTED: 0 CRIMINALS KILLED: 0 Specifically, the following missions were improved upon. Mission 4: Bleed Out - 2 less kills Mission 11: Jamaican Heat - 3 less kills Mission 12: Concrete Jungle - 1 less kill Mission 16: Final Destination - 1 less kill Mission 17: No Love Lost - 1 less kill Mission 21: Search and Delete - 1 less kill Mission 25: Out of the Closet - 1 less kill Mission 31: The Puerto Rican Connection - 2 less kills Mission 34: Deconstruction for Beginners - 1 less kill Mission 35: Ruff Rider - 1 less kill Mission 36: Undress to Kill - 2 less kills Mission 38: Call and Collect - 1 less kill Mission 45: Wrong is Right - 1 less kill Mission 48: Waste not Want Knots - 1 less kill Mission 55: No Way on the Subway - 1 less kill Mission 58: Union Drive - 2 less kills Mission 63: Babysitting - 2 less fires started Mission 65: Blood Brothers - 1 less kill Mission 67: Undertaker - 2 less stars attained Mission 69: Pegorino's Pride - 5 less kills Mission 72: Payback - 3 less kills, 2 less stars attained I also added a checklist for specific things you will need to complete each mission properly, such as a vehicle, weapon, and if you need Dwayne's ability. The general strategies section was updated and improved upon. ============================================================================= Version 1.00 - First version with these crime results at the end of the main storyline. PEOPLE KILLED: 72 CARS STOLEN: 0 BIKES STOLEN: 0 BOATS STOLEN: 4 HELICOPTERS STOLEN: 1 STARS ATTAINED: 36 PEOPLE RUN DOWN: 0 FIRES STARTED: 0 CRIMINALS KILLED: 0 ============================================================================= Forward [FOR1] So you've done everything there is to do in Liberty City. You've seen both endings, got that elusive %100, and have played multiplayer until your eyes bled. This challenge will make you rethink the most fundamental aspects of the game. The rules are pretty simple; basically don't do anything that would show up on the crime page in the stats category. You can't murder innocent people, you can't steal any vehicles, and you can't even tap people with your car. There will be instances where you are forced to kill somebody or attract the attention of the police due to the nature of the mission, and those will be addressed in this FAQ. This challenge is pretty much for the hardcore GTA4 player that could use a fresh perspective on the game, similar to a low level challenge for RPGs. The inspiration for this challenge came when I noticed that many people didn't die if I shot them just enough times and didn't get a headshot. I theorized that perhaps there was an achievement awarded if Niko didn't get too much blood on his hands - perhaps even an alternate ending. Pretty thin evidence, but I wanted to see how far I could push the envelope. Would it be possible to beat this game without committing any crime..' I had to know, so I picked up a controller and got to work. It ended up being one of the more rewarding challenges I have ever attempted. Prerequisites: You should have beaten this game at least once before attempting this challenge. IMPORTANT: I recommend attempting this challenge while meeting or beating the stats I post before reading the strategies and methods I used for any given mission. Hopefully this will generate unique ways to beat missions that I haven't considered. If you can beat a particular mission with less crime please E-mail me! I always give credit where credit is due. Micskill@gmail.com Obviously this is about fun, however. If this is your first run I might recommend setting a goal. Less than seventy-five kills and forty-five stars is what I would recommend for a true beginner to this type of game. After the first run, try under fifty and less than thirty-six stars. You can attempt to replicate (or break, as Chungarunga did) the guide I have here, but if you haven't done this before... Well... Prepare for the challenge of your life. I'll post the stats you should have before proceeding to the next mission. Of course, you can do whatever you want, but the purpose of this challenge is to aim for the least amount of crime possible. ****** Overview on the important stats ***** [STA1] TIMES CHEATED: ALWAYS ZERO. NO CHEATING! PEOPLE KILLED: This is found under the 'general' category and should not be confused with kills since last save under the 'crimes' category. There will be times when Niko has to shed blood in order to progress. However, Niko can only kill when he absolutely has to. CARS STOLEN: Should remain at zero throughout the game. Storyline missions that require you to obtain certain cars don't count against this stat. If point a gun at somebody when they are in a car they will usually run away. If you take the car at this point the game will register it as a steal. BIKES STOLEN: Should remain at zero throughout the game. BOATS STOLEN: You will have to steal four of these to progress. HELICOPTERS STOLEN: You will steal one of this in one of the U. L. Paper missions. STARS ATTAINED: You will get quite a few of these but no more than thirty eight. PEOPLE RUN DOWN: Should remain at zero throughout the game. This stat goes up every time you touch somebody with a car you are in (including cabs). FIRES STARTED: One mission you will be required to blow up a helicopter, which results in two fires. CRIMINALS KILLED: Should remain at zero throughout the game. This is the stat used when you are hunting criminals with a police vehicle. Below the crimes I will list any prerequisites for the mission, such as a weapon or vehicle. ======================================================================= ***** General Strategies ***** MULTIPLE SAVES: TURN OFF AUTOSAVE FIRST. You don't want to accidentally ruin all your progress just because you tapped a pedestrian and the game autosaved. Keep about four or five save slots handy and alternating just in case you forgot to check your stats and accidentally saved with some unneeded crimes committed. Save often because you will be restarting often. GTA4 MAP: IGN has a user-made map that has all important locations, including road names. Works similar to googlemaps. Learn it. Love it. http://grandtheftauto.ign.com/maps/1/Liberty-City-Map PREVENTING VEHICLE CRIMES: Unless you're in a chase, drive slowly. If you hit somebody, it counts as a crime. No matter how lightly you touch someone it still counts against you in the 'people knocked down' category and we need to keep this at zero. Occasionally you'll notice someone diving out of the way, and you may think you tapped them, but this doesn't count against you. Make sure you check the stats page before you prematurely restart. You can hit cars mostly without consequence, but if you hit a police vehicle too hard you'll get some unwanted stars and be forced to restart (if the police weren't chasing you already). Sometimes you'll find people chasing you when you get into a car. If they grab onto the handle before you take off, you'll get hit with a 'people knocked over' crime which means you have to restart. You pretty much have to juke their AI to make sure this doesn't happen. You can run away and then run sprint back to your car, or you can jump over some barriers (like fences) which tricks them with a degree of reliability. Sometimes there will be people in front of you when you are in a hurry, and you will have to reverse in these situations. Hit the right analogue stick inward to see in your review window and adjust accordingly. If you get enough speed you can hit the handbrake and turn the wheel sharply to whip the car around while keeping its momentum. This is a good move to learn for this particular challenge, especially when people are running after your car. CABS: The easy way to travel. If you see a cab and are close enough to it you can tap the left shoulder button to hail the cab, and it will stop for you. You then hold the Y button (which will put you in the backseat instead of jacking it) to get in the cab. Any other people in the cab will get out for you (or you can toss them out without penalty. Be mindful if you are in the cab and it hits anybody, which will count as a 'people run down' crime and you will have to restart. This usually happens if you make the cabbie rush, so I recommend just skipping the sequence even though it costs more. You can set a waypoint and direct the cab driver there in addition to any preset location on the map. Once you reach your destination, it's usually best to hail the cab again before you trigger any cut scenes so it's ready for you. KILLING: Unfortunately there are some people you have to kill in order to progress. On certain missions, however, you can blast someone until they drop their weapon, but will still writhe around on the ground. This is easiest to do with a pistol or SMG, just don't go for a headshot. You can zoom in, especially with an assault rifle, by pushing in the right analog stick while targeting somebody. Incapacitating them in this way means you can complete some missions (or just get rid of somebody annoying) without jeopardizing Niko's conscience and getting unnecessary kills. When in a firefight, attempt to lock on and look around (lock cycling) to find out where your targets are. On some missions, however, you can't blast them to unconsciousness. You have a few options. If an enemy is on a ladder or next to a ledge, they will often fall off and die without it counting against you. Another option is to ram a car until it is on fire and then Park it next to a target and watch them explode. Lastly, sometimes you can call others to do the deed for you. Calling the police from your cell phone works, but calling backup from the police car is faster and more effective. Once you get Dwayne's special ability, calling him to get his friends to help you is the best option (although you can call the police as well.) Some people that you have to kill can be gunned to low health and then shoved into the pavement which causes their demise, yet doesn't count against you (this method doesn't work on everybody however). I was aware of this method for awhile, but some dudes on the PS3 boards (Chungarunga, Infernus, Infernodragon have coined the term "walking" them to death. Anytime you can't avoid killing someone, this guide will let you know who you absolutely must kill in order to progress. EXPLODING CAR METHOD: Some special notes about using wrecking a car to the point it is on fire in order to explode targets. There are four visual phases of car damage you can put your car through. You can ram into objects with a car until it has less than about %50 health left, at which point you will see a light gray smoke. After you ram a few more objects, you will see a thicker gray smoke from the hood. An accident or two later, you will see thick black smoke. Another couple of hits will put the car on fire, and six seconds later a couple more fires will appear on the car automatically. Six seconds after that it will explode. Here is a approximate chart. ~%50 damage: thin grey smoke ~%80 damage: thick gray smoke ~%90 damage: thick black smoke %100 damage: light fire More damage or six seconds later: more fire Twelve total seconds (or more damage): Boom. Note that it is possible to go from thick gray smoke directly to fire if you get into ram into an object at high speeds. OBTAINING CARS: Since stealing is not allowed, getting cars to drive by non- conventional methods is required. The easiest way to get cars is by doing story missions. Some cars are simply given to you, and you can save them. Another method is to point a gun at a car, and after the driver runs off, you can push that car with another car into one of your parking spots. A third method is to block traffic (by holding up cars with a gun) so other cars have to go around and drive through your parking place. When they are in the right position, hold that car up and when the driver leaves quickly save. If you aren't fast enough other cars will plow through and knock the car you want out of position. Be aware any cars obtained that you didn't 'own' previously will be considered stolen until you save and reload. Once you get Dwayne's special ability, you can call for reinforcements and take their car without it being considered stolen. However, sometimes two guys will run over to you instead of bringing a ride. It may be possible to call 911 and push a police car into a save spot with this method as well. If you need a police car, one of the main storyline missions near the beginning will provide you with some. The closest one is north a couple blocks from Roman's apartment on the left side of the street. Take one of your cars and nudge it into the parking area in front of Roman's apartment if you want it. Every so often it would behoove you to put a couple cars at your safe houses for future missions. It's a tedious procedural matter, but you will thank yourself later. Also, if your default save location should be the Middle Park East safe house, I've never run out of there without a few cabs going by. AMBULANCE: Some missions will involve extended firefights, such as Hostile Negation. You can dial for ambulances in these situations and they'll heal you for a somewhat hefty fee. BODY ARMOR: Any mission that puts you in a long firefight means you should get body armor and save first. ======================================================================= THE MAIN STORLYINE: The meat of the game and this FAQ. Before each mission your stats should match (or preferably be less than) the ones listed. Mission 1: The Cousins Bellic [ROM1] PEOPLE KILLED: 0 CARS STOLEN: 0 BIKES STOLEN: 0 BOATS STOLEN: 0 HELICOPTERS STOLEN: 0 STARS ATTAINED: 0 PEOPLE RUN DOWN: 0 FIRES STARTED: 0 CRIMINALS KILLED: 0 CAR: provided WEAPONS: none DWAYNE'S ABILITY: no This is the easiest mission, but you may end up restarting this one a couple times. Basically you have to get used to the idea of not being able to hit people with your car, even if it's a light tap, because it will cause the people run down stat to go up. 'Run down' is probably not the most legal term for a crime, but if it's considered a crime on the stats page in GTA4, that's good enough for me. Get used to driving slower then you may be used to, and learn to avoid sidewalks. Not hitting people with your car may very well be the hardest part of this challenge, however if you stay on the road, the pedestrians generally don't get in your way. Once you make your way to Roman's 'mansion', check your stats to make sure you haven't killed anybody (on the general stats page) or committed any other crimes (on the crimes page). Make a habit of this before you save. It's also recommended that you should be allocating multiple slots to this challenge anyway. ======================================================================= Mission 2: It's your call [ROM2] PEOPLE KILLED: 0 CARS STOLEN: 0 BIKES STOLEN: 0 BOATS STOLEN: 0 HELICOPTERS STOLEN: 0 STARS ATTAINED: 0 PEOPLE RUN DOWN: 0 FIRES STARTED: 0 CRIMINALS KILLED: 0 CAR: provided WEAPONS: none DWAYNE'S ABILITY: no Alright, the second Roman mission is up at bat. If you're like me, your first inclination was to find the closest parked car and gun it to Roman's cab depot. Unfortunately, stealing even parked cars is still stealing (in most cases), and is reflected as such on the crimes page under statistics. You do have the option of taking a cab but be aware that you don't have much money at this point (and it's difficult to get money when you can't kill people whimsically). Additionally, if the cab driver hits someone it will count against you and you will have to restart. I suggest taking a brisk jog to Roman's, where you will shortly get his vehicle. This mission requires you to take Roman "The Janitor" to his gambling spot. Drive carefully and this should be an uneventful trip. When you get there you will learn how to use a cell phone (do they not have cell phones in Eastern Europe..') and after maybe thirty seconds some thugs will show up. Call Roman and get ready for your first Pacifist Niko chase. Once Roman climbs into his car you will start getting shot at. Ideally they won't take out one of your tires. They will stop shooting once you drive little more then two blocks away. The tough part of this mission is all the pedestrians go crazy when bullets start flying, and it makes them run around erratically. If there are people running in front of you, I suggest just stopping your car and waiting for them to run away, even if it means taking a few bullets. Niko is pretty tough, it's important not to panic and drive faster than you have to and then accidentally tapping some schmuck. A reminder: No matter how lightly you touch someone it still counts against you in the 'people knocked down' category and we need to keep this at zero. Occasionally you'll notice someone diving out of the way, and you may think you tapped them but this doesn't count. Make sure you check the stats page before you prematurely restart. Once you don't hear any more bullets it probably means you aren't being chased and you can slow down to a comfortable speed. Make your way back to Roman's apartment. Park his car in the designated parking area (there is a rectangular box on the street next to the sidewalk). You can keep up to two cars here that will stay put if you die, turn off your X-box or really anything. Check your stats to make sure there are no crimes and save - in a different slot preferably. ======================================================================= Mission 3: Three's a crowd [ROM3] PEOPLE KILLED: 0 CARS STOLEN: 0 BIKES STOLEN: 0 BOATS STOLEN: 0 HELICOPTERS STOLEN: 0 STARS ATTAINED: 0 PEOPLE RUN DOWN: 0 FIRES STARTED: 0 CRIMINALS KILLED: 0 CAR: provided WEAPONS: none DWAYNE'S ABILITY: no This mission you are supposed to drive Malorie and her friend Michelle at Malorie's place, and then change your clothes. Leave Roman's car there and approach his cab station from the south on Iroqouis Avenue. Use this site if you need help with street names: http://grandtheftauto.ign.com/maps/1/Liberty-City-Map You should notice the 'friend' icon pop up on your minimap. Generally these are short encounters/missions that give you a few bucks here and there. This particular one requires no effort so walk up to the coked out dude (his name is Brian) and enjoy the berating you receive (and more importantly the $100). This encounter will probably triple your net worth at this point in the game. Continue jogging to Roman's cab depot. Once you are here, he'll direct you to pick up the girls and give you another one of his cars. Don't worry; the first car he gave you is still at his apartment. Drive carefully and pick up Malorie and Michelle. Once you drop them off, head over to the clothes icon, which thankfully is right next to the save point on this island. Park your new car in the designated parking place next to the first one, and sprint over to the clothes shop. First clothing item is free and is all that is required for this mission, so pick up whatever you fancy. I recommend saving your meager funds for things more important then clothes though... Like bullets and cab fair. Once your done, check your stats, then go save. ======================================================================= Mission 4: Bleed Out [ROM4] PEOPLE KILLED: 0 CARS STOLEN: 0 BIKES STOLEN: 0 BOATS STOLEN: 0 HELICOPTERS STOLEN: 0 STARS ATTAINED: 0 PEOPLE RUN DOWN: 0 FIRES STARTED: 0 CRIMINALS KILLED: 0 CAR: Police Vehicle WEAPONS: none DWAYNE'S ABILITY: no This mission initially starts out as a dating mission but you have the option of saving Roman instead of going on the date, which I recommend doing. If you decide to do the date first, skip down to Mission 5 and then come back up here after you complete that one. I think it's probably better to save Roman first because he will like you more, and you can call for free cabs if you get enough respect and he likes you. Roman won't give you the call to save him unless you get close to Michelle's, so hop into one of his cars, cruise over there, and when he calls you turn around (carefully!) and head back to his apartment. Technically you haven't started either mission yet, so park the car and save (after checking stats of course). UPDATE: It is possible to take out the two guys attacking Roman. Bring a police car to Roman's location (there is one north of his safe house that you can push into the parking place, remember to save and load when you get it into the right area). Make sure to drive the cruiser into the basketball court or it will vanish. After a short scene, turn around and sprint to the police car and drive it near the street. Use the left trigger to access the police terminal and call for police backup. Get out of the car and let the two guys attack you, and the police will blow them away. OBSOLETE: Even though the game advances 6 hours when you save/sleep, Roman is still getting a beat down. Jog over to his location. Here you are forced to kill two of Dardan's thugs. As far as I know you are forced to kill them, but you're doing it for your family so it's legit for the purposes of this challenge. These should be your first two kills. Dardan happens to be watching you and attempts to flee after you take out his two cronies. Hop into another one of Roman's cars and go after him. You don't have to floor it, and if you are going anywhere near top speed while trying to take a corner you are bound to hit somebody. It's generally good not to be extremely close to cars you are chasing anyway because they tend to make abrupt turns. You shouldn't have a gun at this point, but if you do don't shoot at his tires because it will make all the pedestrians go crazy. I also think this part is scripted so that it's impossible to kill him until the end of the chase. Furthermore, even if it is possible to kill him, if you wait until the end of the chase and cause him to fall into the water, it doesn't register as a kill. After you chase him to the sugar factory, disarm him and knife him until he crawls over to the window, then hit him one more time to get him to fall in the water. Personally I almost died on this mission because I forgot how to melee properly, so use the in game instructions to counter and disarm. I don't think it's possible to accidentally kill him before knocking him into the water, so don't concern yourself with that. UPDATE: Let Dardan stumble towards the window after you stab him a couple times, then when he stops hit him one more time and he will tumble into the water, which won't count against you. Once Dardan is finished, go back to Roman's car and drive carefully back to his cab depot. Roman will leave his car with you, so you can use it to drive back to his apartment. This will leave you with three of his cars for now, but be mindful you can only save two permanently. Check your stats and Save. ======================================================================= Mission 5: First Date [DAT1] PEOPLE KILLED: 0 CARS STOLEN: 0 BIKES STOLEN: 0 BOATS STOLEN: 0 HELICOPTERS STOLEN: 0 STARS ATTAINED: 0 PEOPLE RUN DOWN: 0 FIRES STARTED: 0 CRIMINALS KILLED: 0 CAR: provided WEAPONS: none DWAYNE'S ABILITY: no This mission you are required to take Michelle out on a date. She has her own car but is kind of far away so you can take Roman's 3rd car or cab it over to Michelle's. Once there ditch Roman's car (or the cab) and drive her to the carnival. Since it's closed you then have to drive over to the bowling alley. There tend to be a lot of pedestrians in this area so be very careful, the horn can be useful here. Once you get close enough feel free to get out and run so you don't have to worry about hitting anybody, but remember where you parked as you need to keep Michelle's car for the ride back. Play bowling if you wish, you won't fail the mission if you quit right away. After you are done, go back to Michelle's car and drop her off at her place. She won't mind if you keep her car so you can keep it and replace one of Roman's cars or take a cab back to the apartment. I'm not certain which car is superior for driving, but eventually you are going to collect a couple police vehicles so don't sweat the decision too much. However way you get back to the apartment, check your stats and save. ======================================================================= Mission 6: Easy Fare [ROM5] PEOPLE KILLED: 0 CARS STOLEN: 0 BIKES STOLEN: 0 BOATS STOLEN: 0 HELICOPTERS STOLEN: 0 STARS ATTAINED: 0 PEOPLE RUN DOWN: 0 FIRES STARTED: 0 CRIMINALS KILLED: 0 CAR: provided WEAPONS: none DWAYNE'S ABILITY: no The Roman missions will open back up at this point. You may also start getting calls from Roman to hang out, which you can do if you want to get his special ability to get a cab at any time. This mission you are asked to pick up one of Roman's 'regulars' Jermaine. You can bring one of your two cars, but if you decide to jog or take a cab there will be one given to you for this mission - Roman's fourth car for anybody who wasn't counting. Drive up to Jermaine and honk to get him in your car. This is a longer drive then usual so don't get distracted by the radio and accidentally hit somebody. He'll want you to take a trip to pick up some of his merchandise, so drive carefully to his spot. It'll turn out to be a sting and you'll get your first two stars on the crime page. This is an unavoidable and scripted event, but if anybody knows a bug or glitch feel free to E-mail me. Once the police chase is on, keep your cool and flee the immediate area. You can try to work your way to the spray shop or just gun it down a road. When fleeing the police, keep an eye on your minimap, it'll show you if a cop car spawns in front of you. When this happens, try turning onto another road or side alley, or simply stop if you are out of the other cops' site range. After that excitement, check and make sure you didn't hit anybody or commit any other crimes (other than the unavoidable two stars). Drop off Jermaine, and then head back to the apartment. On the way back you should get a call from Vlad demanding that you work for him to help repay Roman's dept. Save and take a deep breath, there is a lot of game to go. ======================================================================= Mission 7: Bull in a China Shop [VLA1] PEOPLE KILLED: 0 CARS STOLEN: 0 BIKES STOLEN: 0 BOATS STOLEN: 0 HELICOPTERS STOLEN: 0 STARS ATTAINED: 2 PEOPLE RUN DOWN: 0 FIRES STARTED: 0 CRIMINALS KILLED: 0 CAR: none WEAPONS: none DWAYNE'S ABILITY: no Before starting this mission you'll notice Brian is back on Crockett Avenue, or south a block and to the West of the apartment. If you feel like getting a couple hundred bucks go to Brian and give him a ride to help feed his addiction. You have a couple of options at this point but Vlad is closer. Vlad will want you to teach a guy a lesson because he won't pay him money he feels he is owed. The game teaches you about cabs at this point, I recommend taking a cab since you should have a bit of cash by now. You should always be skipping the ride sequence so the cabbie doesn't hit anybody. You'll get to the shop and the game will point you to a few bricks. Pick a brick up and lob it at the window to the left of the entrance. Just like throwing a grenade more or less. If you miss go back and get another brick. Once you smash the window the guy will give you Vlad's money without incident. You'll notice you're pretty far from home (unless you brought one of Roman's cars or another ride) so run back south until you see a cab and hail it. Talk to Vlad if the mission isn't over, check your stats, then run across the street and save. Done and done. ======================================================================= Mission 8: Hung Out to Dry [VLA2] PEOPLE KILLED: 0 CARS STOLEN: 0 BIKES STOLEN: 0 BOATS STOLEN: 0 HELICOPTERS STOLEN: 0 STARS ATTAINED: 2 PEOPLE RUN DOWN: 0 FIRES STARTED: 0 CRIMINALS KILLED: 0 CAR: provided near the back door of the laundromat WEAPONS: none DWAYNE'S ABILITY: no "You see a cop, you don't know me." - Vlad "I see anybody I don't know you." - Niko. Hop over to Vlad's favorite bar and fire up another Get-Vlad's-Money mission. Jog or take a cab over to the laundromat. Before you go in, take a second to go around back and notice a couple cars next to a van. This is where the guy you are looking for is going to flee. More importantly, these cars can be stolen without it counting as a crime (check your stats to make sure!). Mark this area; it's below Gibson Street and directly under a highway. If you don't have two cars (or are tired of Roman's cars) feel free to grab the Blista or the Sentinel. Touching the van will cause the mission to fail as the owner will freak out and flee through the front. If you decide to take a car now this is actually good, because once you fail the mission you can save your game after taking a car. You can also keep one of the cars by starting the mission by entering the laundromat main entrance, and stealing on of those cars and just keeping it after the mission is over. Once you're done checking out the layout and perhaps grabbing a new car, go around to the front of the laundromat as indicated on your map. When you go in to confront the guy, he'll take off so sprint after him. Grab either car as it still shouldn't negatively effect your crime stats (check to make sure of course) and chase after him. Essentially just ram him until he stops and gives you money, its not as difficult as the police chase a couple missions ago. The only real challenge is hotwiring the car and getting the car out of the back lot before he gets too far away. You can probably get one of those cars in a good position to chase him before starting the chase scene if you are having trouble. Once you are done with that guy, drive back to your apartment, check your stats and save. ======================================================================= Mission 9: Clean Getaway [VLA3] PEOPLE KILLED: 0 CARS STOLEN: 0 BIKES STOLEN: 0 BOATS STOLEN: 0 HELICOPTERS STOLEN: 0 STARS ATTAINED: 2 PEOPLE RUN DOWN: 0 FIRES STARTED: 0 CRIMINALS KILLED: 0 CAR: none WEAPONS: none DWAYNE'S ABILITY: no The next Vlad mission is somwhat difficult to pull off without committing any crimes. First the game will teach you how to use the subway, and if you're like me this will be the last time you use it. Take the subway (you can skip the ride sequence) and jog down the stairs and across the street to the guy washing his car. Take note of a fence on your right as you approach and also of the other guy close to the car. The first guy will address you as you get closer and the game will teach you how to stun him. Look around and make sure there aren't any police walking around because if you hit him in their line of site you'll get an unwanted star. Once you feel safe stun the guy, and his buddy will start to attack you. Don't try and jack the car and drive off with him close to you because he'll grab the door handle and you'll get nailed with a 'people run down' crime. Instead, run back towards the fence and climb over the middle of it. The second guy should be momentarily baffled at your physical prowess and stand there for half a second and then decide to run around the fence to get to you. If he runs in an undesirable direction that won't allow you to shake him, simply hop the fence again. Sprint back to the car you are supposed to steal (which doesn't count against you again) and hop in. If you're lucky, the first guy's body may have vanished if you ran far enough away from it, if you're not lucky you will have to back up so you don't run him over. You are pretty far from home, so you should be extra careful because you don't want to have to restart this mission. Once you get the car to the designated lockup, take a cab back to Roman's apartment. Check your stats and save. ======================================================================= Mission 10: Ivan the not so Terrible [VLA4] PEOPLE KILLED: 0 CARS STOLEN: 0 BIKES STOLEN: 0 BOATS STOLEN: 0 HELICOPTERS STOLEN: 0 STARS ATTAINED: 2 PEOPLE RUN DOWN: 0 FIRES STARTED: 0 CRIMINALS KILLED: 0 CAR: Any WEAPONS: none DWAYNE'S ABILITY: no This is the last Vlad mission - or at least the last mission you are working for Vlad. It's also the toughest chase scene up to this point. Your directive is to kill some dude named Ivan. He's at Roman's cab depot, and you're going to need wheels for this one. Take one of your cars over there and he'll be on his way out in his car. You may have to take some chances as he seems a bit faster then the other chases. This also is a longer chase - almost two minutes long. Near the end of this there will be a lot of construction which means you may have to drive up on the sidewalk, but be very careful not to hit anybody. The horn may help here. Once you notice Ivan is out of the car he'll probably be halfway up the ladder onto some rooftops. Continue the chase (Y button climbs). If it seems like you hit a dead end, look for a ladder. You'll make some very cinematic jumps over the rooftops. They aren't too difficult; just make sure you jump a full step before you reach the edge to give Niko time to plant his legs. After maybe three jumps you'll have Ivan cornered and you'll have the option to kill him. Given the nature of this challenge, you should let him live. That should complete the mission; you can take some stairs down to street level or simply jump off. Whether you die or survive, take a cab to the apartment. You can try and make your way back to your car if you choose, but as long as you have one left you are in good shape. Check your stats to make sure you haven't committed any crimes. Save. ======================================================================= Mission 11: Jamaican Heat [JAC1] PEOPLE KILLED: 0 CARS STOLEN: 0 BIKES STOLEN: 0 BOATS STOLEN: 0 HELICOPTERS STOLEN: 0 STARS ATTAINED: 2 PEOPLE RUN DOWN: 0 FIRES STARTED: 0 CRIMINALS KILLED: 0 CAR: provided WEAPONS: none DWAYNE'S ABILITY: no For this mission you are required by Roman to pick up Little Jacob. 'Pick up' being the operative phrase, you'll need a car, so hopefully you have one left. UPDATE: You can use Roman's cab at his depot, not considered a steal. UPDATE: Once you scoop up Jacob, he'll give you a piece. The next part is a bit tedious but necessary. Ram into mobile objects (such as other cars but not the police). If you smash into buildings your car may stop moving and you need it. Once the car is smoking be a smash it up a bit more until you see black smoke, then go to the yellow marker. If your car is on fire before you enter the marker it won't work and you'll be forced to restart. Once your car is smoking black and you go to the meeting, go to the designated watch point. Once the deal goes bad blast the three guys until they are near death. Now go back to your smoking car and smash it in the alley Austin Power's style until its on fire. Be careful not to leave the alley or Jacob will immediately die. Once the car is on fire, park it in the middle of the three enemies and sprint away. You have about ten seconds to do this which is enough time but not much room for error. Once they explode a guy will appear on the roof. Pop him once and watch him plummet. You shouldn't have any kills. OBSOLETE: One of them on the left tends to focus his shots on you so take him out first, Little Jacob is very durable. Kill the other two in any way you see fit. One more guy will appear on the roof after this, you can shoot him a couple times and he'll fall off but it won't register as a kill. Once that business is done take Little Jacob where he wants to go, although your car may have teleported from where you parked it to the entrance of the alley. Make your way back to the apartment, park your car, check your stats (you shouldn't have any kills) and save. You now have a gun to wave around, but even if you force someone out of their car by pointing a gun at them, if you get in and drive it the game will register it as a stolen car. You can, however push their car in your parking space or cause a traffic jam and point a gun at somebody who parked in front of one of your safe houses. If you save and load after that it is yours. ======================================================================= Mission 12: Concrete Jungle [JAC2] PEOPLE KILLED: 0 CARS STOLEN: 0 BIKES STOLEN: 0 BOATS STOLEN: 0 HELICOPTERS STOLEN: 0 STARS ATTAINED: 2 PEOPLE RUN DOWN: 0 FIRES STARTED: 0 CRIMINALS KILLED: 0 CAR: provided WEAPONS: none DWAYNE'S ABILITY: no This one is a two-parter. Cab it over to Little Jacob's, and he'll give you the keys to his beamer. He'll direct you over to another deal. Be aware you have to kill seven(!) people this mission, but if Roman wants Niko to help Little Jacob, Niko will abide. He is a bit suspicious and directs you to a back alley in case the deal goes sour. UPDATE: It would appear one of these guys can be blasted down without getting killed. The guy on the stairs occasionally falls to his death, you can push him up or try and shoot him up the stairs first before tapping his leg. The police don't seem to do any damage, although it is probably possible to use the exploding car method on the first three guys that come out of the alley... The deal does indeed go sour, and three dudes will sprint out the back. Drive forward to get close (be careful not to hit them with your car) and hop out. It's easier to gun them down on foot, and for some reason it seems like shooting from your car attracts police attention more readily. They don't pose much of a threat but occasionally someone not involved in the mission will blast you with a submachine gun. Once those three are dead, go back to your car and grab Jacob. He's not too happy about the incident. He'll direct you to a house, drive carefully over there in case pedestrians are running around due to the gunfire. Once you're here, follow the in-game instructions to use cover. There are four guys, at least one has a shotty so don't run and gun it. Little Jacob doesn't really do any damage so don't count on him to get the blood off your hands. This should be a pretty easy firefight for someone who has beaten the game. After you take out all four guys, drop Jacob off with his crew. He won't mind if you keep his car. Go back to your apartment and park Jacob's car. Check your stats. You should have six kills at this point. Save. |
