If you work at the science facility, let your sim go to work. Then, hold L2 and select the building (make sure you are not centered on your sim, or it will not work) and select "Force all Events". You will get a raise of $6.00 per hour, you will test plants, substances, and accidentally drink a mislabeled liquid. And, you get some of the following moodlets. Do it multiple times (it took me about 15-20 times), and you will get a promotion! I just started, so I am still on LvL 2.
