COpyright 2010 ViewtifulBrohan =============================================================================== 01-Updates 3-30-10: Completed version 1 of the guide =============================================================================== 02-Intro Vegetto, the stongest being in DBZ. He was so powerfull that he fought Majin Buu, the terror of the universe as a jawbreaker...and won. That strength really shows off here too, as he is very solid. Competing with great damage, an excellent defensive tool in the firm of savage Counter, and Advantages: - 6 bar baseline, 7 if you're Super Vegetto - His SRS starter has massive priority - Savage Counter is a great defensive tool - Very damaging, his strongest combo does over 3400 dmg. - >S is extremely fast and great for punishing - Last-Ditch Power is a killer Aura Burst Charge, it raises your attack to 245% - Can combo off of his throw Disadvantages: - Average rushdown, he's more of a defensive character. - As Super Vegetto, When low on Ki, his defense drops down to 65%. - Energy Blast Auto Deflect is a TERRIBLE Aura Burst Charge. - Only 1 transformation and 1 set of deathmoves. Not so much a flaw, but he can get boring after a while =============================================================================== 03-General Terms Charge Canceling: Charge canceling has been around since the first budokai, and it is what makes the combos you see on youtube possible. Canceling is done by holding down the "S" in the attack chain down, and tapping guard. This allows you to return to a neutral stance. Now's the fun part: when in this neutral stance, you can use chain, and another, and another, until you use the same chain twice. If done fast enough, all you will see is one long combo. Two more advanced forms of canceling are the ki cancel, and the aura burst cancel. Aura Bust cancelling is done by holding S, tapping the right shoulder button[while still holding S] and quickly tapping either R or S. Ki cancelling is the most advanced form, and is done by holding E at the end of any chain and tapping block. There is double, triple, and even QUAD ki canceling. Players famous for this are Soriphen and Saiyanjin2. I myself have only mastered single ki canceling. For more info check out Goryu's FAQ http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/psp/file/924588/42016 18 sec. rule Although it is nice to use charge canceling to make long combos, this is not always going to be possible. See, your opponent's Ki regenerates at a fixed rate, even while you're beating the crap outta them. When it regens to 3 bars, you will be TC'd[teleport countered]When at zero ki, you have 18 sec. to use a combo, and even less if your opponent's Ki is higher. Ki Management EVERYTHING other than Rush and Slam attacks cost Ki, so don't abuse it. This means no long-range spam with death moves or Ultimates, because nothing sucks more then having an ultimate Aura guarded and seeing 5 ki bars go down the drain. Always try to have 3 Ki bars at all times to escape combos. Combos with no Deathmoves in them usually build alot of Ki, so keep that in mind as well. Zoning- Zoning is basically another term for keep-away. Characters infamous for this are namely Piccolo and Broly. The former's zoning is so beastly, that he is considered pierless. Pokes- Quick, usually high-priority attacks that are used to gain distance to charge ki. Rushdown-The ability to pressure the opponent to teleport counter. Generally speakin, the better your rushdown, the higher placement on a tier. Characters infamous for thier good and bad rushdown are Bardock and Goku. the latter is low-tier, so keep that in mind when choosing a main. Slam Starters: Slam starters are the essential tool to compete in Shin Budokai Another Road. They are usually high priority attacks that lead into other chains. Chains- A chain of attacks.ex.>RSS, SSS,ect. Priority-The amount of "oomph" behind a move so to speak. Attacks with high priority rip through lower priority attacks. =============================================================================== 04-Vegetto Strategy: First of all, to get the most out of Vegetto, you should fight at SSJ. It has a higher attack percentage and a better Ultimate than his Base form. Vegetto is one of the stongest fighters in the game, but he has to be able to hit the opponentto use it effectively. However, his rushdown is average at best. Use RRRS and your throw to pressure your opponent into teleport countering. Again, not the best rushdown, but his damage makes up for it somewhat. Where Vegetto really shines is as a defensive fighter. His SRS combo starter has massive priority, even among other slam starters. Use this to your advantage. >S is another good option, it comes out super-quick, and is great for punishing. Savage Counter is also amazing, as it comes out very fast and does sizeable damage. But be warned, if you miss the counter, it takes awhile to cancel out of, so you can be easily punished. When at a Ki disavantage: Since Vegetto is a defensive character, he doesn't suffer much, although he does lose Savage Counter, so use short combos until you get the advantage back. Poking with >S is also effective in gaining some distance to charge ki back up, and again using R+G will be your main rushdown tool so use it as needed. Pressure your opponent with this until they teleport counter, and then that's when you wail on them. Vegetto's huge baseline will also help as it regenerates all the way up to 7 bars. Savage Counter: Savage counter, as stated before, will be your main defensive tool. Bait your opponent by using >RSS, and cancel into this as they respond with a slam starter. This is especially useful against Krillin. His /\S starter has huge range, but is extremely prone this technique. However, this will not work against Bardock and Future Gohan. This reason is thier extremely fast death- moves. Spirit Shot and Riot Javelin come out even faster than your Savage counter, and what really sucks is that you can't cancel out of it for 2 seconds. Last Ditch Power: Last Ditch Power Should be used in a Ki advantage. Rush your opponent down with R+G and combo into your Ultimate. Two words. MASSIVE DAMAGE. More than 3500 to be exact. Pull this off and the match is pretty much over. Don't waste any time though, because it only lasts for 10 seconds. =============================================================================== 05-Match-Ups Match ups are what comprises a tier list. A character with mostly good match-ups is Top Tier. Ones with mostly bad match-ups are bottom tier. But being top tier doesn't mean that person is the best, a low tier character can be better than them. This is called a counter. But enough blabber, lets get going. VEGETTO GOOD MATCH UPS Cell: Cell is also a defensive character...but you are better than him in virually every way. Between your starters, has a much higher priority. Your pokes are faster, your baseline is higher, and your overall damage is much greater than his. But most importantly, he is extremely prone to Savage Counter, as his SSSS starter is fairly slow. The Son Family/cooler: They have no Slam Starters, extremely limited rushdown, the only thing they have going for them is damage. You can pick them apart, but this goes for pretty much everyone. Krillin: Krillin would usually stomp alot of fighters in this game. His /\S starter is superb and works against virtually everyone...exept you. Savage Counter is great for catching Krillin's /\S since it's only used at longe-range. You also beat him out on starter priority, Bait his /\S and your golden. VEGETTO BAD MATCH-UPS Bardock: Insane rushdown, damage to rival yours, and worst of all, you can't safely use Savage Counter. Bardock's Riot Javelin can be chained from Bardock's RRS, and hit you before you can cancel out of SC. He can even match you on R+G, because his STRONGEST COMBO is off his throw. You will stuggle nearly the entire match. Piccolo: Being able to match you on damage, yet have 4 times your range is his major advantage over you. Savage Counter can be used, but you will lose the Ki advantage eventually so...yeah, you're screwed. [Refer to Section 08] Future Gohan: At first, I judged Gohan's matchup against Vegetto sheerly on his combo ability. Before, he was placed Mid tier on my list. But then a fellow player reminded me of one thing I was forgetting, Spirit Shot and Evasive Kick. I completely forgot about them. With Evasive Kick Gohan can interrupt your somewhat slow starter, yet can shut down your counter deathmove with Spirit Shot. Against Mystic Gohan, you don't fare much better, because he gets a massive powerup in terms of damage. VEGETTO EVEN MATCH-UPS Broly: Broly just can't deal with people like Vegetto, Krillin, and Bardock, and thier high priority slam starters. Problem is, your rushdown is pathetic compared to thiers, so you won't be able to stay close in like they can. You can still stay in, but be wary of his >S poke and >RRR guard- break attack. Employ R+G and be careful, Death Claw is just as quick if not quicker than your Savage Counter. =============================================================================== 06-Combo Secton Now to get to the part you have been waiting for, the combos. Here's a legend if you don't understand the notations: R = Rush attack S = Slam attack > = Towards opponent < = Away from opponent /\ = Up on the D-pad E = Energy Button - = Cancel * = Stun ' = Fully charge upcoming move [AB] = Aura Burst -[AB] = Aura Burst Cancel Beginner Section [no cancels] #1: >RRS, >E[Final Kamehameha] 8 hits, 796 damage #2: \/S, RRRR, 5 hits, 550 damage [Ground-only] #3: R+G, /\EE[Spirit Sword][trigger at 10 hits] 10 hits, 2114 damage #4: R+G, R , RRRS 10 hits, 766 damage Intermediate Section [no energy/aura burst cancels] #1: SRS*, >>R, R, >RSS-, >R, RRSSS 13 hits, 985 damage Advanced Section [SSJ] #1: SRS*, >>R, >RSS-[AB]S, [AB]R, R, R, >R, RSS-, S 20 hits, 1320 damage [requires fast canceling to connect with >S] Ki building combos #1: SRS*, >>R, >RSS-, >R. >RSS-, S.] This is merely a gateway into a higher level of play. I am by no means the best at this game, in fact I'm still improving, but I know enough to help others get into it. You are free to make your own combos and strategies, and if your good enough, you might be able to make some new discoveries. =============================================================================== 07-Deathmove/Ultimate ratings Final Kamehameha-5.5/10 Stronger than your average beam attack, a bit faster too, but it suffers from all the same weaknesses. It's multi-hit, so it's easy to TC and get wailed on. Although Buffed up in terms of damage and speed, this should still only be used as a combo ender. Savage Counter-8.5/10 SC is one of the fastest Deathmoves in the game, and is also moderately damaging as well. It can counter EVERY attack that isn't a ki blast death- move, or an ultimate. The only gripe is that if you miss the counter, you're left open for about 2 seconds. This is by no means a spam-friendly move, so watch out. Spirit Sword-10/10 This is arguably the best projectile ultimate in the game. It's as fast as Final Flash, but hits even harder than Broly's ultimate. It hits for 1400 at Base, and 2300 at SSJ. The only real gripe to this move is the small hitbox, but even then, this move TRACKS to a certain degree. All in all, an exellent attack. Last Ditch Power-9/10 A free 245% bonus to attack power...need I say more. The game says that your Ki is supposed to drop continually, but it doesn't even happen. This could be game-breaking if only Vegetto's rushdown was better...If Bardock had it on a transformation THEN we'd be in business. Energy Blast-No Effect-0/10 This Aura Burst Charge gives yout the ability to auto-deflect ki blasts, and while it may make you feel like a tank, it's not very good at all. A travesty even if you consider Vegetto's other awsome deathmoves. As if deflecting ki blasts wasn't easy enough, they want you waste an ABC? No thanks. =============================================================================== 08-Vegetto vs. SBAR Piccolo where should I start? For one, his SSS starter has the longest range in the game. This is enough to make him Top Tier already, but it doesn't stop there. He does 3200 damage with his best combo, just 200 points shy of you, AND he has a regeneration ABC. Did i mention a high-priority rushing Ultimate? All this may make Piccolo seem broken[which he is], But you can stop yourself from being totally destroyed. NEVER aura guard his SSS chain. I cannot stress this enough. If you find yourself being forced to block try to interrupt SSS with your >S. This works better for some than others, Goku for example has the highest priority >S out of everyone so this is especially useful for him. Sword Trunks Depending on which starter the Trunks player seems to use, you can apply two different strategies. S as a psuedo-slam starter, which is a difficult and impractical technique, but expect to see it alot when fighting a good Goku player. =============================================================================== 09-Tier List For those of you questioning the placement of certain characters on the tier list, here's a rough outline of it. God Tier 1.Piccolo Top 2.Sword Trunks 3.Krillin 4.Bardock 5.Armor Trunks High 6.Broly 7.Pikkon 8.Janemba 9.Vegeta 10.Future Gohan Upper Mid 11.Vegetto 12.Kid BUu Mid 13.Super Buu 14.Cell 15.Freiza 16.Demon King Dabura 17.Fat Buu 18.Android 18 Low 19.Goku 20.Adult Gohan 21.Teen Gohan 22.Gotenks 23.Gogeta Bootom 24.Cooler Now you might be saying to yourself, I main so and so, and they're low on the list. This tier list does not indicate who is the most fun, but who's best in competitive play. I for one hate playing as Piccolo, but really enjoy playing. with Freiza. So if you see your main low on the list, don't fret! Best doesn't mean most fun. =============================================================================== 10-Special Thanks Dimps-Duh, they made the game DrunkenPilot72-For introducing me to DBC [http://dbcompetitive.forumotion.com/forum.htm] DBC-Thanks to everyone there for helping me up my game to a whole new level My friend Wendell-For the hours he spent helping me test all this nonsense |
