 buy a pokeball at the pokemart go to the tall grass or cave or water dont kill it just hurt it a bit then throw the ball its pretty darn simple.

 rock climb wasnt invented when the origional gold version came out and this is a remake im guessing its almost exactly the same exept the graphics
