 Emulator is a kind of GBA/NDS that is on your computer. Unfortunately, for emulators, you cannot use the GBA connection. If you want Cliff to visit you, I suggest you buy your own nds.

 Just enter the cave/mine and use your tool that helps you till (sorry I forgot what it was), then just dig around. Careful though, everytime you use your tool to dig, your stamina will drop, then when your stamina is 0, your fatigue increases(or ..
