 give barley miso soup everyday then talk to him with your dog in your hands then talk to their dog everyday. i think its how it works...

 you must upgrade your barn, then get one of those blue diamond shaped thingys (arr can't remember name!!) which you can get from the mine and horse races. Go to the blacksmith and he'll get it made.
