23) VILLAGER INTERACTIONS
******************************************************************************
Villagers tell you that they like to receive letters. You can use this fact to
receive foreign fruit, shirts, and furniture. Type "(hiragana) to mo da chi"
(the Japanese word for "friend") three times, each on a different line. Attach
anything (e.g., seashells) as a present. You will receive fruit (including
Coconuts) or shirts in the replies. Type "tomodachi" five times to get
furniture in responses.
They may ask you to deliver a green-ribbon-wrapped present to another villager.
You can open the present and take the item, but you may make your villager
angry.
Villagers can ask you to bring them furniture. If they don't ask you for a
specific item by name, they may ask for furniture of a particular Series, color,
or genre. They may also ask for furniture from a category or of a functional
nature:
...[Plantlike] for plants
...[Musical] for musical instruments
...[Doll-like] for dolls
...[Lampy] for light sources
...[Dresserish] for storage devices
...[Table-esque] for tables
...[Bedlike] beddo for beds
...[TV-tastic] imafuuna kagu for TVs
...[Stereophonic] for music players
...[Clocky] for clocks
Villagers may ask you to bring them clothing. If they don't ask you for a
specific item by name, they may ask for clothes of a particular style.
Villagers can ask you to bring them fossils, either unspecified or from a
particular Set (e.g. Mammoth).
Villagers may ask you to bring them particular fish or insects.
They can ask you to play Hide-and-Seek! If you accept, you will have to find
two or three villagers within 10 or 15 minutes to get a reward (possibly a
gyroid). They will be hiding behind buildings, trees, or signs. If your
pockets are full, your reward will be mailed to you.
A villager may misplace their house Key. Fish the Key out of the river and
bring it to them to get a reward.
Villagers can visit you in your home or ask you to visit them. Schedule a time
at least 30 minutes later, but within the next 12 hours. You may be able to
buy an item from their house.
A villager may ask you to pass along a message to another player in your town.
If the second player successfully types the message for the villager, both they
and you can get a reward from the villager.
You can cure sick villagers! Occasionally, you can enter a villager's house to
find them ill, shivering or moping with black swirls. Bring them a dose, one
per day, of Medicine bought from [Tom Nook's] Tanukichi's store to cure them.
You can listen in on villager conversations! If you see two villagers talking,
walk up and press the "A" button to listen to what they say. They may include
you in the conversation.
When there is distance between you and a villager, click on the villager with
your remote to wave to them. They will have one of these responses:
...1. They will wave back while a multi-note chime sounds (Cranky, Jock, Snooty,
& Peppy personalities)
...2. They will bow while a two-note chime sounds (Lazy & Normal personalities)
...3. They will bow and glance up while something like a "piano crash" sounds
(Cranky, Jock, Snooty, & Peppy personalities)
...4. They will nod their head to the side with the sound of "blowing wind"
(Lazy & Normal personalities)
The first two signal that your "relationship" is good.
Here are the possible nicknames that villagers may give you:
"F" means the first letter/kana of your player's name.
"S" means the second letter/kana of your player's name.
"T" means the third letter/kana of your player's name.

Villagers will let you know if they are thinking about moving out of town.
(This happens only after the villager has the Surprise or Realization emote and
runs up to you to talk.) In the conversation, you will have an opportunity to
indicate whether you want them to leave or to stay. Usually, all players
living in the town can have the opportunity to "vote" for a week. Sometimes,
the villager will take the advice of a player with whom they have the closest
friendship. If the villager has decided to move out, their belongings will be
packed up in boxes after the week has ended.

26) THE STALK MARKET
******************************************************************************
The "stalk market," or buying and selling White Turnips, is the best way to
earn huge amounts of money.
Purchase White Turnips from [Joan] Kaburiba on Sunday mornings, then sell them
to [Tom Nook] Tanukichi during the week at a higher price to make a profit.
White Turnips spoil at 6am Sunday morning, so make sure you sell them by
Saturday night.
[Tom Nook] Tanukichi has two turnip prices each day, Monday through Saturday.
The price changes at Noon. Using data from the author's towns, here is a
distribution of when the highest price of the week occurred:
Monday am: 12 weeks (19.0%)
Monday pm: 1 weeks ( 1.6%)
Tuesday am: 0 weeks ( 0.0%)
Tuesday pm: 2 weeks ( 3.2%)
Wednesday am: 0 weeks ( 0.0%)
Wednesday pm: 4 weeks ( 6.3%)
Thursday am: 11 weeks (17.5%)
Thursday pm: 7 weeks (11.1%)
Friday am: 6 weeks ( 9.5%)
Friday pm: 11 weeks (17.5%)
Saturday am: 7 weeks (11.1%)
Saturday pm: 2 weeks ( 3.2%)
63 weeks
So, the maximum weekly price occurs on Thursdays most often.
[Joan's] Kaburiba's price is never less than 90 nor greater than 110 bells per
turnip. So, it really doesn't matter how much you pay for White Turnips. [Tom
Nook's] Tanukichi's prices, however, can vary greatly. The lowest price and
highest price experienced by the author are 28 and 531 bells per turnip.
Higher prices have been reported by other players, though prices greater than
700 are impossible.
[Tom Nook's] Tanukichi's weekly prices exhibit four general patterns:
1) the "constantly-decreasing" pattern,
2) the "large-spike" pattern,
3) the "small-spike" pattern, and
4) the "random-price" pattern.
The constantly-decreasing turnip price pattern starts Monday morning with a
price between 70 and 87, inclusive. Each successive price is a few bells less.
Here are some examples:
M T W Th F Sa
83 78 74 70 67 62 59 55 50 46 42 36
80 75 71 68 64 60 56 51 47 43 38 34
76 71 67 62 58 54 51 46 41 37 32 28
75 70 66 62 58 55 50 47 43 39 35 31
70 67 64 61 57 53 50 47 43 41 37 33
The large-spike turnip price pattern is a constantly-decreasing pattern that is
interrupted with five prices: a two-price run-up to a spike followed by a two-
price run-down. A constantly-decreasing pattern resumes after the interruption.
Here are some examples:
M T W Th F Sa
84 81 78 74 69 65 60 115 168 435 205 111
82 77 73 119 180 520 178 105 81 78 74 70
80 76 73 69 66 62 59 114 186 531 173 88
78 75 70 67 108 196 273 189 82 79 75 70
70 66 63 59 55 51 86 156 443 159 126 72
The small-spike turnip price pattern also involves an interrupted constantly-
decreasing pattern. The maximum price is the fourth price after the
interruption (as opposed to the third price with the large-spike pattern).
Here are some examples:
M T W Th F Sa
80 77 73 70 67 63 88 89 190 201 168 79
79 75 72 69 85 89 141 156 149 76 72 69
76 71 68 65 62 58 54 116 113 139 148 145
73 69 66 132 106 137 140 134 75 71 67 64
71 66 62 59 56 52 106 105 134 162 145 70
The random-price "pattern" really has no pattern; the prices jump up and down.
Most often, the Monday morning price is greater than 87. Here are some
examples:
M T W Th F Sa
136 79 71 65 95 83 125 105 103 61 57 82
102 74 69 122 85 114 88 87 74 68 63 113
85 86 68 63 54 74 120 114 101 56 51 112
73 68 132 116 109 101 103 66 56 48 114 148
71 61 54 147 111 122 140 146 134 145 84 76
Notice the fourth example. The first two prices look like the beginning of a
constantly-decreasing pattern. The next two prices look like the beginning of
a small-spike interruption. Predicting patterns can be difficult.
Using data from the author's towns, here is the frequency of the four patterns:
1) the "constantly-decreasing" pattern: 8 weeks (12.7%)
2) the "large-spike" pattern: 14 weeks (22.2%)
3) the "small-spike" pattern: 21 weeks (33.3%)
4) the "random-price" pattern: 20 weeks (31.8%)
63 weeks
So, a profit can be made on the sale of White Turnips about 87.5% (or about
7/8) of the time.
According to the Japanese Enterbrain guide, here are the probabilities that a
particular pattern follows another:
Following Week
--------------------------------------------------------
Current Week Constantly-decreasing Large-spike Small-spike Random
--------------------- --------------------- ----------- ----------- -------
Constantly-decreasing average high low average
Large-spike high low low average
Small-spike high average low low
Random low average low average
Using data from the author's towns, here is a cumulative distribution of the
weekly highest price:
650 or more: 0 weeks ( 0.0%)
600 or more: 0 weeks ( 0.0%)
550 or more: 0 weeks ( 0.0%)
500 or more: 4 weeks ( 6.3%)
450 or more: 6 weeks ( 9.5%)
400 or more: 10 weeks ( 15.9%)
350 or more: 12 weeks ( 19.0%)
300 or more: 12 weeks ( 19.0%)
250 or more: 14 weeks ( 22.2%)
200 or more: 15 weeks ( 23.8%)
150 or more: 33 weeks ( 52.4%)
100 or more: 55 weeks ( 87.3%)
70 or more: 63 weeks (100.0%)
less than 70: 0 weeks ( 0.0%)
So, the maximum weekly price is 200 or more almost a quarter of the time.
Also, according to this experience, a price of 500 or more will happen about
once every 17 weeks (about three times a year).
Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to influence higher turnip prices.
Sadly, White Turnips placed into the Lost & Found will spoil.
Changing the in-game clock will trigger the constantly-decreasing turnip price
pattern at [Tom Nook's] Tanukichi's (and will prevent "spikes" from appearing).
Using any clock to go backwards in time will cause White Turnips to spoil.
Lastly, using the in-game clock may cause [Joan] Kaburiba to not have Red
Turnip seeds available for sale. Always use the Wii clock when changing time.
