How can you get a dark wizard to use there dark magic in digan alley

How do you duel in free play? When i go to change colors as you would in story play- all i do is change characters and some of them do not have magic, so they are knocked down or killed. Its seems to be i am getting nowhere changing characters all the time.

I put on extra hearts but every other time it tirns off by it's self!!! How? It wouuld be helpful if you know!!!

Does anyone know how to get the crest piece which seems to be in the shop? I can't seem to get in the door of the shop - anyone got any ideas, thanks.

I have been wandering around forever trying to find the grounds. I have beaten the game with the exception of the red brick that is in the thestrals area, but i cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to get back on grounds. Please help! Thanks in advance.

I can't seem to get behind the statue before the dementors get to me. I have tried the patronus spell to slow them down and still "die". I'm really tired of starting this level over and over just to get this one house crest.
