Wii, there are three star coins hidden in every level, including regular levels, Castles, Ghost Houses and Airships. They are often very difficult to find. However, by obtaining the three star coins for each level (and finishing the level afterwards), you can access some secret levels: World 9. In order to access each of the eight levels in World 9, you have to find all the Star Coins for a particular world. For example, finding all the Star Coins in World 1 will let you access level 9-1 in World 9. You can see how many Star Coins you've collected in a given level on the world map screen in the top left. They're always listed in order, so you might have the third coin but not the first two. In order to be credited as finding a Star Coin, you must find it and then finish the level. You can't leave the level or die and keep the Star Coin. You don't, however, have to find all three in one run through the level (and in fact, sometimes you can't find all three in one run through a level). The list before will help you find any of the Star Coins you might not be able to find otherwise. The columns are, from right to left: - What level, in #-# format. - On a scale of 1 to 5, how difficult the coin is to find in the first place. - On a scale of 1 to 5, how difficult the coin is to obtain once you know where it's located. - Any items that are required to obtain the Star Coin. - A description of the Star Coin's location and how to obtain it. Quickly jump | | | | | | on it, then jump onto the land above the red | | | | | | pipes. You won't see yourself, but you can run | | | | | | to the right and drop down onto the Star Coin. | | | | | | Contributor cburge also suggests that you can | | | | | | freeze a big fish that swims between the red | | | | | | pipes, then ride it up and jump off to get up | | | | | | to the coin. | |_____|___|___|___________|___________________________________________________| | | | | | | | 1-4 | 1 | 3 | Penguin | This one can also be tricky. You'll find the | | | | | Suit or | coin just after the last one, guarded by a red | | | | | Ice | pipe shooting water upwards. The only way to | | | | | Flower | get is to disable the urchin that's floating | | | | | | around so that it falls and lands on the red | | | | | | pipe, stopping its flow. To disable it, hit it | | | | | | with an ice ball, though a fire ball might work | | | | | | too. | |_____|___|___|___________|___________________________________________________| _____________________________________________________________________________ | | | | | | | 1-5 | 5 | 2 | | About a quarter of the way through the level, | | | | | | you'll come across three rectangles with two | | | | | | blocks running around each. Get on one of the | | | | | | blocks on the middle one, then jump when it's | | | | | | at the top to reach a platform above it. There | | | | | | will be two bricks on the far right side: break | | | | | | them (by ducking under if you're big) and one | | | | | | will become a beanstalk. You'll find the Star | | | | | | Coin in the area above. To get it, ride the | | | | | | first block in one of the trains, then drop | | | | | | down from above. | |_____|___|___|___________|___________________________________________________| | | | | | | | 1-5 | 1 | 1 | | Shortly before the checkpoint you'll come | | | | | | across a giant green spinning block with the | | | | | | coin in the lower right corner. Ride it to the left and jump off | | | | | | under the checkpoint; the wall here is fake and | | | | | | you'll find a green pipe. Ride the pipe down to | | | | | | find a cavern with the Star Coin. The land here | | | | | | spins very fast, so sprint to the right, jump | | | | | | over the Goombas and jump to land on the orange | | | | | | platform at the right. You can land on it | | | | | | without wall-jumping, but it takes precise | | | | | | timing. | |_____|___|___|___________|___________________________________________________| _____________________________________________________________________________ | | | | | | | 1-C | 1 | 1 | | Near the beginning of the level, you'll see it | | | | | | in the air by one of the gears. Jump from the | | | | | | gear prong when it's nearest the Star Coin to | | | | | | get it. | |_____|___|___|___________|___________________________________________________| | | | | | | | 1-C | 1 | 1 | | Shortly after the checkpoint, you'll find a | | | | | | Star Coin underneath a solid set of four stone | | | | | | bricks. Let the Thwomp thwomp them away, then | | | | | | drop down to get the Star Coin. | |_____|___|___|___________|___________________________________________________| | | | | | | | 1-C | 3 | 2 | | At the end of the level, you'll see a green | | | | | | pipe down in the lava past the last gear. Ride | | | | | | the gear prongs down until you can jump on it. | | | | | | Hit the P-button on the next screen, run along | | | | | | the bricks to avoid the lava, wall-jump to get | | | | | | the Star Coin and exit through the yellow pipe. | |_____|___|___|___________|___________________________________________________| World 2 Star Coins _____________________________________________________________________________ | | | | | | | 2-1 | 1 | 2 | | Early in the level, you'll see it under a | | | | | | platform. Ride the sand to the left and jump | | | | | | down to the gap, then ride the sand under the | | | | | | coin up to the Star Coin. Then, just jump | | | | | | through the platform. | |_____|___|___|___________|___________________________________________________| | | | | | | | 2-1 | 1 | 2 | | Just after the checkpoint, you'll see the coin | | | | | | underneath a Piranha Plant. Supposedly you're | | | | | | meant to jump from the sand into the coin's | | | | | | little alcove, but it's really easier just to | | | | | | barely step off the platform above, tilt the | | | | | | control stick left to slide down the wall, and | | | | | | sneak into the alcove. To get out, jump over | | | | | | onto the sand pillar | |_____|___|___|___________|___________________________________________________| | | | | | | | 2-1 | 1 | 3 | | Towards the end of the level, you'll see it | | | | | | underneath a rock platform. The only way to get | | | | | | it is to jump down, then use the propeller as | | | | | | soon as you touch it. Time it so that the sand | | | | | | pillar to the right is up so you have somewhere | | | | | | to go afterward. 2technogeeks has informed me | | | | | | that you can also obtain this coin by grabbing | | | | | | a Koopa shell and throwing it at the Star Coin, | | | | | | which is probably a good bit easier. | |_____|___|___|___________|___________________________________________________| _____________________________________________________________________________ | | | | | | | 2-2 | 5 | 3 | | This one's complicated, but not particularly | | | | | | hard. Right before the checkpoint, you'll see | | | | | | some quicksand; ride it down. When you get | | | | | | down, you'll see a P-button to hit. Hit it, | | | | | | then drop down through the blue coins. Exit | | | | | | through the tube to the left. Don't enter the | | | | | | first tube you see, though. Head right and hit | | | | | | the yellow P-button, then use the platforms | | | | | | that appear to get up to the Star Coin. Note | | | | | | that you'll only be able to jump high enough if | | | | | | you're large. Then, enter the vertical green | | | | | | pipe to the left to exit. | |_____|___|___|___________|___________________________________________________| | | | | | | | 2-2 | 5 | 2 | | After the checkpoint, you'll come across a | | | | | | moving platform with four bricks above and to | | | | | | the right of it. Hit the left-most brick from | | | | | | below to reveal a vine. Climb the vine, and at | | | | | | the top, get on the platform. It'll start | | | | | | moving; grab the Pow when you pass it but don't | | | | | | use it. Hit the Pow once the platform is below | | | | | | the Star Coin. Towards the end of the level, you'll | | | | | | see a tiny pipe blocked by two barrels. You'll | | | | | | have to be a mini Mario, then toss the barrels | | | | | | away and take the pipe. The Star Coin is at the bottom of the | | | | | | third one, past some regular terrain, hidden by | | | | | | darkness. You'll have to avoid some fire | | | | | | creatures bouncing around to get it. Approach | | | | | | him and drop down when you can, then run back | | | | | | to the left. Jump and | | | | | | climb the grate behind it to move up towards | | | | | | it. Climb on top of it and jump | | | | | | to reveal some hidden blocks with a vine. Climb | | | | | | the vine, hit some of the blocks on the next | | | | | | screen, and climb the vines to get the Star | | | | | | Coin. | |_____|___|___|___________|___________________________________________________| | | | | | | | 2-4 | 2 | 3 | Propeller | After the checkpoint, take the green pipe down. | | | | | | You'll see the Star Coin hovering down low. | | | | | | You'll have to jump, grab it and propeller back | | | | | | up to the platform. You'll see the Star | | | | | | Coin underneath a platform near the end of the | | | | | | level. To get it, you'll have to jump from the | | | | | | far lower left as far as you can, use the | | | | | | propeller at the last possible second, then | | | | | | wall jump to get back above the platform. It | | | | | | can be easier if you do it with the wind | | | | | | pushing you, but that can also make the | | | | | | wall-jump at the end harder. | |_____|___|___|___________|___________________________________________________| _____________________________________________________________________________ | | | | | | | 2-5 | 3 | 2 | Yoshi or | Early in the stage just after Lakitu appears | | | | | Propeller | for the first time, you'll notice a very | | | | | | conspicuous-looking cloud in the air. The yellow wall | | | | | | to its right isn't really a wall. Get rid of | | | | | | the Piranha Plant using Yoshi to shoot one of | | | | | | Lakitu's spikey dudes at him, then pass through | | | | | | the wall (keep Yoshi with you). Once | | | | | | underground, head to the right, jump on that | | | | | | yellow square, then jump again and jump off | | | | | | Yoshi to get the Star Coin. | |_____|___|___|___________|___________________________________________________| | | | | | | | 2-5 | 3 | 3 | | For this one, you'll have to commandeer | | | | | | Lakitu's cloud. Wait until you get to the | | | | | | yellow pyramid structure near the end with | | | | | | cactus plants all over it.
