Walkthrough - Pitfall Walkthrough, BeginningPitfall: The Big Adventure Beginning Introduction Welcome to Pitfall! Let's get started. Shake the Wii remote, and Harry punches. You have no health luckily, so you can't die in this level. This level is to just get you used to moving (which you jog by moving the joy-stick on the nunchuk) and basic attacks. The purple health bar is the Jaguar's, steadily break him down to none of the little purple orbs in the left hand corner. Then, a movie that has a couple funny parts in it (always watch them when they start, several are funny!) will appear. Watch them, as they build the story and often tell you important information and the reasons for your destination. Crash Site Introduction Welcome to level 1, the Crash Site! This level is to get you used to moving and using basic controls. Walk around the meadow until you get used to the sensitivity. Then, press the 1 button to go to the pause menu. Pause Menu -Press A button on map to see the game map. Harry's head represtents your current location. The X maks your destination. As you see, moving your nunchuck makes large marks on the map in the shape of an elipse of some sort. As you see, there are four of these elpises, each of wich has a name. The four elipses are named 'Heart of the Jungle' 'Native Territory' 'Snowy Mountains' and 'Lost Caverns'. The elipses are the four regions of the map. As you see, right now you are in the heart of the jungle. Make that elipse and press the A Button. Now you see a series of black circles across a more detailed map. These black circles are different levels. Once you discover a level, the circle will become completely black, and a line will link it to all of the levels it is connected to. As you see, Harry's head is on a black circle, so you have disovered that area, and it connects with two unexplored levels. The red X is on one of those levels, however it is inacessible at the moment. Therefore the other is the one you need to travel down. Press the B button to go back to the full sized map. Press it again to go to the pause menu. -Press A button after highlighting Notes. Harry records notes on how to beat creatures and records main events here. Press B button again. -Press A button after selecting Journal. As Harry reaches destinations or has a major event (such as a battle or meeting a new character) he records it in a journal. This is in case you missed important info or are just wanting to be sure of your next objective. Press B button. -Select Inventory and press A. Harry sometimes collects items as he wanders through the jungles, swamps, mountains, and caves (eg. canteen, torch, gasmask, raft, ect.). He has a complete list of his items and how to use them in this section. Press B. -Press A over Bestiary. Harry encounters crazy natives, exotic animals, and other enemies as he wanders. A complete list of the ones he's seen and hints on how to beat them are here. Press B. -Highlight Hints and Press A. Pitfall creators understand that certain people like to cheat, so to avoid troubles with the computer, the important hints are found here. I have not really used this section because I like to find things out on my own. Press B. -Press A on Shaman Shop. This tab allows you to see what is still for sale at the shaman shop, what you've already bought, and how many idols youve collected. You must find a Shaman to actually purchase though... More will be released when you find the first shaman. Press B. -Go to Heroic Handbook and Press A This contains all of the Heroic Abilities you've managed to collect, either buy earning them or by buying them. As you see, you have none right now, so press B -Press A on Save Now select one of the open slots and save your game. Press B once saving process is done. Save regularly, so you don't have to do levels over again. That's the pause menu. Now press B until you get back to the game. Health and Pit Monster Basics Move some more to get re-used to the movement control, then go between the trees. Beware: there is a pitfall trap called a Pit Monster not far away! Be prepared to stop. Its mouth will open and close with synch. When it closes, dash across before it opens. If you don't, he'll eat you, and spit you back out. Beware: Another creature called a swinging monkey goes happily between trees, swinging on vines. However, if he hits you, you lose a health orb. If you notice in the upper left hand corner, there is a bar with little orange orbs. That's your health bar. Everytime you get injured, you lose one of them. Once you reach zero, you die and start that level over again, losing everything you got that level, and going back to the health you had entering the level (my suggestion, before entering any unknown level, try to fill your health bar(this will be explained in a little bit)). Vines, Double-jumping, and Idols Once you get across, keep going. You'll see a dead Pit Monster (the only in the game unfortunately...) Which had dirt fill it up. If you notice, it stays open. Thanks to the dirt, you don't die if you fall in. See the vine above you. Press A to jump. As you see, now your on the vine. Shake the remote to swing the vine(when you get really good like me, eventually you'll be able to swing from vine to vine without swinging or double jumping (reviewed later), however, early on, do not attempt this!) Now, swing and press A again to jump. While in the air, press A once more. See how Harry sommersaults in the air and goes higher. This is called double-jumping. Land and press A in rapid sucession. See how much higher he jumps than with one jump? Now grab the other vine above you. Notice how the pit never closes? This forces you to use the vine. Repeat the process you did with the dead Pit. See how to use vines? There is a bit more to it, but that's all for now on vines, because you landed next to a tiki with something shiny in it. That shiny thing is called an Idol. Walk over to the tiki and hold the B button. Shake the remote gently to collect the idol (again, once you get good at this, you won't need to shake the remote). I'll cover the purpose of the idol once you find a Shaman. Howlers and Mixed Moves Now walk down the dirt path. Beware: While later in the game they are more annoying than anything else, early on, Howler Monkeys are hazardous to your health. If you wake them, they will howl and their friends in the trees will rain down coconuts on you. Quickly, run up to the howler and shake the remote to kill him. Now, did you see the fallen tree to your right a few steps back? Double-jump onto it. Walk to the cliff above you and Double-jump. Do you notice the signal saying 'Rising-Strike needed'? That is one of the abilities you can aquire. That means that the passage is unavailible at the time. Keep moving down the path until you reach the plane. Jump in. Now is another skill you'll learn. I call it 'Mixed Moves'. It's when you do two actions at one time to create a new action. For example, you see those boxes ahead of you? Walk up to them. Now, jump and at the same time, shake the remote. See, you did a spin-kick! That cleared those boxes! View Mode Now, walk to the end of the cargo hold. A signal has come up. It says press the C button to view around. Before you do that, walk over to the small widow to your left. Now press and hold C (the small button on the nunchuk). Move the Joy-stick around until you can see out the window. See the natives bashing the cage? Snap out of view mode. See the oval that's sparking next to you? Smash it and run toward the cage. Explorers and Healing Fountains As you see, the natives run into a cave and a man is it the cage. He's an Explorer. Smash the cage. As you see, he thanks you and offers an Explorer Idol. Grab it. Explorer idols are worth five ordinary ones! Now he'll run off cheering (You see him multiple times trapped behind more cages, webs, columns, rock walls, and even in a jar!) See the fountain? Jump into it. See your health refill completely? This is a Healing Fountain. It's full of magic healing water that mysteriously cures any wounds. Now go into the cave the natives ran into to advance to the next level. Jungle Canyon1 Introduction Welcome to the next level, the Jungle Canyon! Go to the pause menu. Select Map. Select 'Heart of the Jungle'. See how your icon has shifted to the right of its previous position? That's because you are in a different level. As you see, several lines stretch from the level your currently in. Notice how a fist icon has appeare in the previous level. That is the rising strike technique you found. This is to remind you it's there later in the game. Other icons such as abilities, or items will begin to appear around the map as you need them to continue in that direction. You want to head to the south line. Now enter the Bestiary page. Notice how some creatures have appeared? Click on one to see info about it. Once your done, exit the pause menu. Swimming, Pirannahs, and Rotating Now, you see the lake in front of you? Jump in and shake the wii remote to swim. Use the joy-stick to steer. Go as fast as you can toward the crashed wing in the water, because hungry Pirannahs are chasing you! There isn't any way to beat them, you've just got to swim faster. Now, go to the end of the sandbar. Press the + or - button to rotate your view. You should see 3 Crocodiles and one idol for shure. Now is when croc jumping comes into play. Crocodile Basics You can jump onto a croc's back and stay for a second, but not too long, because then he'll dive and burst upward with you in jaws. To get out, shake the wii remote rapidly, then as the remote vibrates, press A to leap to the last peice of land you stood on. If you don't press A in time, the croc will steadily deplete your health until you die. When your safe again, you will be subtracted one health orb. Jump on the crocodile to your right. If you manage to land on its back sucessfully, run and jump to the next crocodile. Then run and jump to the Idol. Swim back to the sandbar. Beware: Even if you weren't on its back, if you swim near a crocodile, he will chase you after diving. Swim as fast as you can to avoid getting chomped! Look at the waterfall to the left. Observe the white as it falls. See anything unusual? Swim toward it. You should end up behind it and see a tiki with an idol. Grab the idol and proceed into the cave. Underground Dam Introduction Welcome to level 3, the Underground Dam! This is a new region, not in the Heart of the Jungle, but the Lost Caverns. If you notice, it is quite dark, but the water is lit, so you can see. Electric Water See the lit water? Dive in. Why did you do that?! Learn to trust your gut in this game! If somethig seems utterly wrong, be cautious. What you stumbled upon was electrified water, caused by Electric Eels! Raft What you need to proceed in the Lost Caverns Region is a Raft. The Raft is currently unavailible, so backtrack back to the Jungle Canyon. Jungle Canyon2 Introduction Welcome back to the Jungle Canyon! Now, swim back through the waterfall and onto the sandbar. Jump onto the rock sticking out of the water and continue across the crocodile's back and to the other shore. Remember that your down at least one health orb thaks to the electric water, so fill up on health whenever you can, as I will no longer remind you to do that. Columns Punch your way though the breakable columns. They won't hurt you when they fall, however will hurt enemies. Continue down the jungle. Bridging the Gap Now, sneak by very lightly by moving the joy-stick lightly in the direction you want. This allows you to get by Howlers without waking them. Sneak up on the howler in front of the Pit. When your next to him, turn Harry so he faces directly at the Pit. Punch the monkey so he falls in. Notice how the Pit stays closed. If anything but you gets eaten, it will be permanently closed for that level. Run across and punch the Howler on the other side. Sneak down the hill until you are next to the Howler on the edge of the cliff. Stare at the cliff just as you did the Pit. Punch the Monkey! See him fall over the cliff all dazed! Shaman Jump over to the column of rock. See the native who is sleeping? That's no native! He's a peacful Shaman. Wake him by punching him. He'll wake and it will open the Shaman Shop. As you see, he sells many things. Health upgrades, special attacks, peices of the map, and a mystery item, are all availible to buy. For this one but a health Now, he disappears in a cloud of purple and you have one more health orb. This will stay permanently throughout the game, however may still lose its health. Vine to Vine Turn to the right and jump onto the vine, now swing at the vines maximum and jump to the next vine. You may need to turn your vine. Do this by Swinging and pushing the joy-stick to the side. If your too high to swing effectiveley, just hold B down and press down on the joy-stck to slide down the vine. Don't fret! He will stop automatically at the bottom! The only way he falls off a vine is if you press A at the wrong time. Keep going until you reach the next rock. TNT Now, go to the cliff near you and head to the stone wall. Notice how it says you need TNT to blast the wall apart? That is an item you get later in the game, so it is currently unavailible. Head back to the rock and go to the next set of vines, in the opposite direction as the shaman was. Keep heading down to the rock over there. More Mixed Moves Jump to the cliff to your right. As you see, a healing fountain is next to you, refill if necessary and get over the pit monster in front of you. Next, jump across the three crocs in front of you to get to the rock wall. Press Z (the large button on the nunchuck) to crouch. Shake the remote. Congradulations! You just did another Mixed Move! You just did the sweep-kick. Now, remaining crouched, move the joy-stick forward to roll through the hole, this is called Z-rolling. Pinchua Shrine Introduction Welcome to level 4, the Pinchua Shrine! This is one of two shrines in the whole game! After this level is your destination! But there are some traps and puzzles you need to deal with first. Traps See the Howler snoozing, walk forward and jump over the spikes that just killed him. Land and immediately Z-roll to go under the other spikes. Once around them, immediately double-jump to get over the oncoming spikes again. Stop by the cobblestone looking tiles (These will break under your weight). Jump over to the solid tile, then to the others until your next to the left wall. Jump onto the rock, double-jump to the other rock, then jump to the rock wall. Z-roll through the hole. Bush Ninjas Enter the courtyard and immediately crouch. Do you notice that little bush. Roll next to the little bush. Seriously, learn to trust your gut! That club had to hurt! That was your first Bush Ninja. However, this manuver is important to defeating him! Do that again, except, after getting hit, Z-roll next to him again and sweep-kick. Now, he abandones his bush and is vulnerable. As soon as he jumps from getting kicked, sweep-kick him again to finish him! You may need to do this multiple times to get the hang of it. Luckily there is the healing fountain in the building that you left. However, if you keep moving, he can only follow you in that little bush of his. This will be an interesting trick later in the game. The Web Once you've finished him, head across the courtyard and into the other building. Head into the red passage. Notice how you stopped moving forward. See the mesh? That's a spider web. You'll need a torch to burn that web. Head back into the courtyard. Lifts This is your first real puzzle. See the three rocks coming out from the ground? Go next to the one closest to the first building. Look toward the second building. Now, jump onto the rock. As you see, it's actually a giant button. When it makes an explosion happen and a lift come up in the second building, double-jump to the next button, repeat. Now dash to the second building. Double-jump onto the lowest lift, repeat until your on the highest, the Double-jump onto the cliff. Beware: The lifts steadily fall, so speed and timing are key to this procedure. It will be frustrating at first, but once you get on the cliff, Z-roll through the hole. Cavern You should see a hole in the ground with a ladder sticking out from it. Jump over it and go to the face in the cliff. Z-roll through the mouth. Collect your idol, then Z-roll out and go down the ladder (witch is funny the first few times if you pay attention). You should see an explorer trapped behind a web, continue down the cavern. Plane Cockpit Introduction Welcome to level 5, the Plane Cockpit! This is the first destination reached, however, there is one thing you need to deal with before you get to the actual cockpit, for a while the most dangerous animal in the game, Scorpions. Scorpions There isn't alot you can do now to defeat them. You need either the Smash Strike, or TNT, neither of which you have. What you need to do before they sting you is crouch, when they gather around, sweep-kick to knock them on their backs. Keep doing that, launching them steadily toward the cliff until they go over. This too will take practice. Sweep-kicking Glass Once that's done, jump onto the vine above you and try to swing on top of the nose of the plane, this may take some pracice for some. Then, go to the small bit of exposed glass, and sweep-kick it apart and Z-roll through. This will work on Ice in the mountains and on Stone later in the game. Then a movie will play. Canteen Congradulations! Your first item and a new destination! Your new destination is clear across the jungle, but to help with your health, you now have a canteen! The canteen will hold extra health water, it's much like a protable fountain, except with a limited supply. Now, Spin-kick the window apart and jump out. Head down to the Healing Fountain. Jump in and fill your canteen. If you notice in the upper-right corner of the screen, there is a cross with a canteen picture on the top. Notice the cross on your wii remote. That cross coincides with the one on the screen. Press up on the cross on the remote to see for yourself. See? You've deployed the canteen. If you look near your health bar, you see above it, a series of grey boxes. That's your canteen bar. Each grey box needs to be filled with blue. Hold B and aim your remote down into the water and see your canteen bar steadily go blue, one box at a time. Each blue box will refill a health orb once drank. Once one or more boxes are filled with blue, tilt the remote upward to drink. Notice how it drains one box at a time? Each box that empties will refill on health orb. Now fill the canteen to maximum. To put away, just press up on the cross again. This works with the other items too. Chopping Down Trees See the tree to the left? See how it is all cut up at the botton? Spin-kick to... TIMBER!!! That surprised those two Howler's on the cliff! Use the fallen tree as a bridge to get on top of the cliff. See two natives in the jungle? Follow them. Native Jungle Introduction Welcome to Level 6, the Native Jungle! Thought that the natives in this game are wimps? That they'll just run away like always? You're DEAD WRONG! Now, they want to fight. They'll throw coconuts at you, though, they're terrible shots, and if you punch them, they'll just cower behind their huge shields, invulnerable to any punch! They're tough... at first... Quicksand and Rolling Logs First, you see that the natives are throwing giant logs toward you. Jump onto the vine and steer to the right. Keep vine jumping. If you fall, this will be the first time you won't die, automatically. You'll fall into quicksand, which if you sink all the way, you'll lose all of your health at once. You might be asking then, how do you not sink? By rapidly pressing A! Rapidly pressing A will keep you from sinking. Then, just walk toward the section of beach. Keep swinging until you reach the idol. Then, either swing back or walk back. Jump onto the first vine once you have the idol and jump across to the multiple logs coming your way. You'll need to jump over the logs. You see where they jump for a bit? There you'll need to Z-roll for a second to avoid getting hit. Where they land, you'll also need to Z-roll there to get to the pile of logs. Remember: If your low on health, you can use the canteen! Natives Jump over the pile of logs once they stop throwing them and start throwing coconuts. One of the two natives will run, the other will remain. Run up to him and punch so he stops throwing coconuts. Keep punching. Notice how he keeps blocking with his shield? Now, Sweep-kick. Now you see stars spinning around him. Natives require two hits to kill. Either punch or do another sweep-kick. He's out! Now run to the other native. Just sweep-kick him 2x in a row. Mulitple Howlers Notice in the basin how there is multiple Howlers? This is the second largest group of Howlers in the game. Five in all. Jump in and once you approach the stone to your left, sneak. Sneak right up to the three sleeping together, get Harry in the exact middle. Crouch, and Sweep-kick to kill all three! Then, since both of the others have woken, run up to the one running around (this could take a while) and eventually punch him. Kill the one on the rock with a Spin-kick. Decoys and Illusions Now, jump onto the cliff at the end of the basin. See the three Natives standing there? If you said yes, you don't pay attention in this game. Notice how they are on a tripod? They're decoys. You don't have to, but I still enjoy destroying them. There will be more natives along the tral, as well as a Pit Monster. Beware: This Pit Monster is tricky to see until it is almost too late. After killing the first native after the decoys, stay to the left wall to get the best warning. After the Pit, there should be a giant rock with two columns next to it. First, a Native will jump out, then, Z-roll through a small hole beneath the rock. Now, you should see a native freaking out and a healing fountain. This is an interesting trick. Z-roll next to the fountain, (make shure you're not directly in front of it or near the tower of it or else this will not work) and Sweep-kick. Notice how you became healed! Awesome glitch! Notice how you've come full circle back to the basin, however you're above it and to its side. Swing across the vine and don't hit the opposite wall! Kill the other native. Note that wall. It is no wall! The natives are trying to trick you again! It's just a curtain. Walk through it. First Battle Now, jump down the cliff. See the columns and the Pit? See the native on the opposite cliff? Head toward him. Jump onto the rock to reach the cliff. Uh-oh. There you go again! Not listening to your gut! How long will this take?! However, this one is necessary to advance to the next level. Five natives now appear, ready to fight. Remember everything, how columns brake and only kill the enemy, closing Pit Monsters by throwing something else in, Z-rolling, Sweep-kicking. Once they're dead, the gate should open and you're allowed to advance to the next level. Altar of Huitica Introduction Welcome to level 7, the Altar of Huitica! In this level, you'll learn to look for the smallest details to find hidden treasures! As well as finding all sorts of inaccessible trails that also contain treasures and new levels! Let's get started! Hidden Idol First, note that your welcomed to this pyramid by a Pit Monster. Luckily, a baby one, so you can just double-jump over it. Go right. First note where the Healing Fountain is. Then head straight for that face of the Altar. Notice anything familiar. This should jogg your memory, the cockpit window. I hear jeaprody playing! Still don't see it ? Just sweep-kick and you'll see. Z-roll though the desroyed stone and collect your Idol. Seeing What's Around There is alot here at the Altar, so let's walk about and make note of them. Beware: Natives are known to jump out of nowhere! They may appear at any moment! Head back to the Pit Monster, Look toward the Altar, make a left. Make note of the propeller and how you need a Sling. Then head to the gate the native ran to. Keep walking by the cliff. See the Idol at the tower past the Swinging Monkeys? Head that way. You moron! When will you learn about the gut! Those were hot coals, and you need the Heroic Dash to get across them! Note the Spider Web near the cliff. Now your back at the Healing Fountain. Now, by the hot coals, there should be some small cliffs, climb those and jump on the vine. The Altar Turn your vine to the right. Swing to the other vine, then to the Altar. Switch the lever by holding B and shaking the wii remote. The gate now comes up and five native warriors come out. THis will be your second big battle, however, something else needs to be taken care or first. Jump onto the vine. Turn to the left, if you fall, just skip to the next section and come back. Now grab the next vine, which is slightly above you. Turn to the left, and aim for the pots. Jump that way and land on the roof. Wake the Shaman few know about! I'd suggest a Canteen Max on this one. Now, aim for the open gate and take a leap of faith. I know what your thinking, 'He's doing the gut thing again. I'll kill myself!'. Lo and Behold, as long as you can see the ground, you won't lose one bit of health on long falls! The minute you land, press Z and roll toward the Natives. Five Warriors Roll toward the warrior in the middle of the left face, and Sweep-kick twice. If you do it right, 3 of the five will die, and the other two would have run off. Kill them and go past the open gate. The Great Tree Introduction Welcome to level 8, the Great Tree! This is a vertical level, complete with tons of Howlers, some noxious clouds, and an Idol. Circle First, notice how a wall rises behid you. Now, you're stuck here, you must advance. Before you start climbing the tree, there are three Howlers laying around. One is to the right. Kill him! Make your way around the tree and kill all the others. After killing your third monkey, look at the tree. Notice a hole with green gas floating around. Enter that hole. Did you finlly listen to your gut? If so, good, because that is poisonous gas! Look at your map. Click 'Heart of the Jungle' See how much closer to your destination you are? Also, see how much more cluttered it is? Don't worry, you will clear them out. See how the level your at has a strange green blob icon on it? That is your first Gasmask icon. Now look at your bestiary, see how many new animals or enemies you encountered? Keep going around the tree, notice the stone wall you're locked in by? Congrats, now you need to climb the tree. The Climb See the Mushrooms that grow along the sides of the tree? You use those to climb, as well as terraces on the cliff, and branches. I won't reveal too much so you can discover things on your own here. One tip: When the lake forms of gets higher, if you fall in the water, there is always a place to get back on, such as mushrooms only partly submeged, or a branch. One fill up will only leave a bit of branch next to a errace to climb on though. Soon, you'll be at the top. Another Idol Now your at the top. You see the cave? There is one thing you need to do before you advance. See the vine above you? Grab it and swing to the left. See the branch with the Howler on it? There is an Idol up there. It may take practice to reach it, but this is good practice for something more challenging in the next level. After you collect the Idol, exit through the cave. Statues of Ayar Introduction Welcome to level 9, Statues of Ayar! Here is one of the greatest vine challenges, as well as some hidden treasures. Quickclaw Jump down the cliff and walk toward the Healing Fountain. A video now shows. Once done, go into the cave and go down the two cliffs leading to the actual statues. Helping Hands You now see a hand in front of you. Jump on and quckly jump to the disk in the other hand. Woah!!!! That's right! The table tilts, and you mus get close to the statue and run to the other end and jump to the vine bfore the table tilts down again. Once you get that, then comes the single hardest vine in Pitfall. Turn your vine to the right. See the hand high above you? Beleive me, it's incredibly hard your first try. You need to use timing with the double-jump. Specifically, when to press A the second time. It must be as he just begins to fall, not before, or else you won't get enough hight. Soon, you'll be doing that with no trouble at all. Rising Strike and Smash Strike Once up there, jump up to where the head should be. Jump through the waterfall. Notice that to get this idol, you need the Smash Strike. Actually, you can also use TNT, it's just that your more likely to buy the Smash Strike before you get the TNT. Anyways, just jump back to the missing head. Beware: I've probably overjudged and underjudged the distance to jump more than anybody else. You'll fall either way, so be careful with your jump. A rapid double-jump should do. Jump onto the limb on your right. Go down it and jump to the ledge. Try jumping up the cliff in the cave. Notice you need the Rising Strike. Go to the map. Click on Heart of the Jungle. Note the difference in the icon for Rising and Smash strike. The fist will be upward for Rising Strike, and Downward for Smash Strike. Leave the Pause Menu. Go back to the cave entrance. See the vine to your right, jump there. Vine Jump until you reach the other cliff. Exit to Bittenbinder's Camp. Bittenbinder's Camp Introduction Welcome to level 10, Bittenbinder's Camp! Here you gain an ability, an object, and an idol! As well as meet two new characters, one of which, gives you cool stuff later on, and is quite the character... Porcupine First, you probably notice all the water, then, a Native throwing coconuts at a strange pink creature |
