Version 2.1 (06/22/07): Most missing information has been added to the guide now that the U.S. version of Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition is out. Added bios for Ada, Luis and Krauser. Added other missing information as well as a section on The Mercenaries that is brief, but will be expanded on in the next update. Version 2.0 (06/11/07): The original FAQ, created by Devin Morgan, which was never released, has been converted to cover the newer Wii version by cvxfreak. Wii version coverage has been added, and more information has been added wherever appropriate. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 2. Introduction -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Even though it took so many years to produce, the fourth installment of the Resident Evil series finally was released in 2005. Early that year, the game saw release on the GameCube, and towards the end, on the PlayStation 2. Both versions had their strengths and weaknesses; the GameCube version contained superior graphics and audio over the PlayStation 2 version, which contained extra features such as Separate Ways, new costumes and weapons and the Movie Browser. The Wii version combines the GameCube visuals and audio with the PlayStation 2 extras, and on top of that, new Wii Remote controls that allow for more accurate aiming, attacking and performing QTE moves using the motion controls that make the game more intuitive than before. Despite being originally a GameCube game, Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, as its called, is an awesome game that instantly ranks among the Wii's best. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 3. Story and Characters -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ======== Prologue ======== 1998... I'll never forget it. It was the year when those grisly murders occurred in the Arklay Mountains. Soon after, the news was out to the whole world revealing that it was the fault of a secret viral experiment conducted by the International Pharmaceutical Enterprise, Umbrella. The virus broke out in a nearby mountain community, Raccoon City. And hit the peaceful little town with a devastating blow crippling its very foundation. Not taking any chances, the President of the United States ordered a contingency plan - to sterilize Raccoon City. With the whole affair gone public, the United States government issued an indefinite suspension of business decree to Umbrella. Soon its stock prices crashed and for all intents and purposes Umbrella was finished. =============== Leon S. Kennedy =============== Age: 27 "Everything's going to be just fine." Agent of the U.S. Government. He has been sent to Europe on a solo mission to rescue the President's kidnapped daughter, Ashley. Leon is one of the few people who survived the destruction of Raccoon City six years ago. ============= Ashley Graham ============= Age: 20 "All right! Here goes nothing." Daughter of the President of the United States. She was kidnapped by a mysterious group on the way home from her college in Massachusetts. Allegedly she has been spotted in a village in Europe, but there has been no sign of her since! ======== Ada Wong ======== "Long time no see, Leon." This mysterious woman has been working covertly behind the scenes. She met Leon during the Raccoon City incident. She was thought to be dead. Now it would seem that she is alive and working as a spy for an unknown organization. ========= Luis Sera ========= "I'm just a good-for-nothing guy, who just happens to be a ladies' man." Luis says he's a former cop, like Leon. Yet there's more to this mysterious Spaniard than meets the eye. There's even a rumor that his grandfather once lived in the area. ============ Jack Krauser ============ "Enough talk! Time to die, comrade!" A former colleague of Leon's. Now working for his own unknown objectives. Presumed dead after an accident two years ago, Jack reappears, with obvious animosity toward Leon. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 4. Controls -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= There are three ways you can play Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition. You can use a Wii Remote for motion controls, or you may use a GameCube controller or a Wii Classic Controller to control the game in the same manner as the earlier GameCube and PlayStation 2 versions. Of course, the Wii Remote's by far the most interesting scheme and the whole point of the Wii Edition, but the control options are still there if you desire the original controls. Choosing the Controller ----------------------- To access the game from the Wii menu, you'll have to use the Wii Remote or Classic Controller to navigate the menu and make your selection. From here, you may select your controller options. If you want to use the Wii Remote, plug the Nunchuck into the Wii Remote. If you want to use the Classic Controller, disconnect the Nunchuck from the Wii Remote (if you plugged it in) and connect the Classic Controller. Note that the Classic Controller does not have the rumble feature the Wii Remote and GameCube controller (excluding the WaveBird) have. To use the GameCube controller, simply have nothing connected to the Wii Remote, and make sure the GameCube controller is hooked up to the first GameCube controller port on the Wii. Note that if you have the Classic Controller or Nunchuck connected to the Wii Remote, the GameCube controller will not function. Overview -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ================================ Context Sensitive Buttons/Swings ================================ At various points in the game, cutscenes or actions will prompt you to swing the Wii Remote (if you're using that) or press buttons within a split-second timeframe in order to perform an action. For example, shooting an enemy in the face will cause the enemy to stumble, and if you run up and press A, you will perform a kick, but if you wait too long, the ganado regains his/her composure and the button will disappear. In some cutscenes, you will need to press the buttons or swing the Wii Remote to avoid dying. Pay close attention to these context sensitive buttons during gameplay and cutscenes. Sometimes, they may be the only way to defeat a boss. This walkthrough assumes you're playing with the Wii Remote and thus the walkthrough will list those situations. =========== Using Herbs =========== Throughout the game (and in previous RE titles if you remember) you will find various colored herbs. Green herbs partially recover your health, naturally. The red herbs do nothing by themselves, but when mixed with a green herb it enhances the effect. Finally, there are yellow herbs, a new addition to Resident Evil 4; these are more rare but when mixed with a green herb it can raise your maximum health somewhat. Mix Effect --- ------ Green + Green More health recovery Green + Green + Green Full health recovery Green + Red Full health recovery Green + Yellow Some health recovery + increase max health one bar Green + Red + Yellow Full health recovery + increase max health one bar Red + Yellow No effect ============ Enemy Spoils ============ Sometimes when you kill someone in the game, you will notice a colored aura rising up from its corpse. If you investigate it, you are prompted to check it out by pressing A, and you will receive the spoils left behind. Here is a quick rundown of what each colored aura represents. Color Spoils ----- ------ Green GREEN HERB Red/White Various Ammo Blue Treasure or Money (PTAs) ======== Merchant ======== There are merchants situated throughout the game, and they sell weapons, healing items and weapon upgrades. They also purchase almost any non-quest item in the game for half the value they would sell it for. PTAs are needed to purchase items unless they're free. ====== Saving ====== You can save the game at a typewriter an unlimited amount of times (unlike the previous RE games that required an ink ribbon). Also, the game is divided up into chapters, and at the end of every chapter, you may save your progress if you like (it counts the same as a typewriter save). =================== Environment Objects =================== Throughout the game's environments, there will be various objects that will aid your adventure: Shiny Object: Shoot it and you'll generally be able to pick it up. There are portions of the game where you have to collect a certain amount to earn a weapon with the merchant. These shiny objects hang from ceilings or railings, and can yield valuable jewelry with tons of value. Explosive Barrel: It may save your life; shooting it will cause an explosion so shoot when a strong enemy or a group of weaker ones are near it. Bear Traps: These traps appear numerous times throughout the game. They may be hidden in sand, so you may become injured if you step into them. Shoot or slash at them to "activate" them, thus allowing you to get by unscathed. Trip Bomb: In a few locations, especially in the village, are "Trip Bombs." These bombs will explode and hurt Leon if he walks passed them without dispatching the bombs first. You can tell the location of these bombs by keeping a look out for orange-like dynamite bombs that are pairs connected by a wire. Crossing the wire triggers the bombs. Hiding Places: When you are with Ashley, there might be trash cans you can hide her in while you take care of enemies that might threaten her. Use them unless you know you can get through the area without using them. Barrels: There are also non-explosive barrels. Use the knife to destroy them and reap the benefits contained within. ================ Difficulty Modes ================ Like with all the versions of CODE: Veronica, Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition does not have difficulty modes in the North American version (same goes for GameCube and PlayStation 2). In the Japanese (and PAL) versions, however, there are difficulty modes to choose from for Leon's main game. Amateur: The easiest mode to choose from, with weak enemies and strong characters. It takes quite a bit of damage to kill Leon, even from the strongest enemies. Also, a few areas are cut off to male the game path flow much quicker. This mode was introduced on the PlayStation 2 version and was not available on the GameCube. Easy: Also an easier difficulty mode, this mode is only slightly more difficult than Amateur based on ammo. A few areas are also cut off from explanation. Normal: The standard mode of the game, offering a reasonable challenge. This FAQ is based on Normal Mode. This was the only mode available in the North American versions of the game until Professional is unlocked. Professional: The hardest mode in the game, enemies are tougher kill and deal more damage. This mode is unlocked after beating Leon's game once. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 6. Walkthrough - Main Game -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Leon S. Kennedy is who you control for most of the main game. The co-star of Resident Evil 2, Leon's back after six years of training with the American government. It's up to him to rescue Ashley Graham, the president's daughter, from the forces that kidnapped her. =========== Chapter 1-1 =========== Forest ------ You start off the game in the middle of the woods, literally. All you have is your HANDGUN and the trusty KNIFE, as well as some FIRST AID SPRAY. Anyway, start by going up the path where you'll find a house. Approach the house to witness a cutscene, then go inside. You will get a second scene when you meet the guy who lives in the house, and chooses to attack you. When you regain control, quickly shoot him in the face and while he's stumbling around, run up and kick (the game will prompt this; press A) to hopefully defeat it. That way you don't waste ammo this soon. After dispatching the first guy, Leon will talk on the radio with Hunnigan. Following this, go upstairs and you will hear some people outside. Check on the table to get HANDGUN AMMO (x10), then jump out the window straight ahead. There will be 3 more Ganados (that's what the regular people are called, so get used to it) with axes and pitchforks waiting to attack outside. Move to a safe distance from the group and take them down one at a time. The best approach again is to shoot them in the head and try kicking them away for an easy ammo-efficient kill. Once they're all dead, you are free to continue along the path. In the first shack you encounter, cut open the boxes to get some PTAs, a GREEN HERB, and HANDGUN AMMO (x10). There is also a typewriter in here, should you wish to save the game right now. Continuing along the dirt path, you will spot a dog whimpering because its leg is caught in a bear trap. Choose to help it out (you'll see why it pays off later). Follow the path going down the hill and then up another hill (be careful of the wire traps between a couple of the trees to the side). Kill the Ganado atop the hill and continue onward to another shack. In this shack, destroy the boxes to get some PTAs, then pick up the GREEN HERB as you exit. You will see two more Ganados nearby; kill them and cross the bridge ahead. At the other side, go down the hill and you'll see yet another shack. Be careful as you approach since there's a Ganado inside ready to attack! Shoot him down from a safe distance, then pick up the HANDGUN AMMO (x10) inside. Now, go ahead on the path and check the gate to enter a new area. Village of Pueblo ----------------- As soon as you enter the new section, you are contacted by Hunnigan, who will send you the PLAYING MANUAL 2 file. Its purpose is to explain how to play the game, if you didn't already figure that out. When you're finished reading it through or not, head up the path and you will be prompted to look ahead by pressing A. You don't have to do this, but at this point will be a split in the path. The best approach is to take the path going left and forward, heading into the outskirts of the village of Pueblo. As you follow the path, you can find a GREEN HERB to the left as you progress. Up ahead you will find a woman with a pitchfork; break the box to find a RED HERB, then shoot at the woman in your way. Quickly turn and hit the guy on the roof throwing axes at you as well. Your best move from here would be to follow the path under the awning you see (it's behind where the woman was). Take that path until it turns right, following it around the building. You should see an entrance to the house you just ran around; go inside and you will witness a cutscene with the Ganados descending upon the house. In there, push the dresser in front of the window so they can't get in, then check the counter behind the stairs to find HANDGUN AMMO (x10). Go upstairs and take the SHOTGUN from its resting place on the wall, and break upon the glass cabinet to find a HAND GRENADE. On the bed across the room, you will find SHOTGUN SHELLS (x5). The second floor of this house should be your "base" of sorts for fending off the masses. Keep an eye on the window by the bed, since the villagers will put up a ladder and try to come in; put a damper on this effort by knocking down the ladder when possible. Another good method is to jump out the window to the side and stand on the slanted roof, giving you a real safe spot when dealing with the Ganados. There is another ladder leading to the roof you can knock down when you can. Otherwise, just hang out up here blasting everyone as they come up. Try to conserve your SHOTGUN for when a huge group is closing in on you, and especially when the chain saw guy appears. Make sure you dispose of the chain saw one quickly, since he can chop your head off, effectively ending the game if you aren't careful. After you kill enough of the Ganados, a cutscene will start and they will all migrate to the strange church building in the middle of town. This means the dangerous part is over for now, so take time to explore the village and pick up any ammo or herbs you may have missed. Be sure to grab the YELLOW HERB from a box behind the barn, and mix it with a green so you can increase your max health. When you are ready to continue with the game, there is a path to the left of the tower. Follow it and you will come to another house on the right. Take the HANDGUN AMMO (x10) from inside, as well as the ALERT ORDER file. Then, continue on the path to the gate, and go through to the next area. Farm ---- In this section, you will find a much quieter scene, fortunately. You may also notice blue medallions hanging from various locations within this region. There are 15 in total, and if you shoot down at least 10, you will be rewarded by the Merchant (you'll meet him not too far from now). If you check the tree you can get the paper discussing the medallions (About the Blue Medallions). Anyway, if you wander around this area you'll find some more Ganados to shoot down, as well as lots of ammo in the different buildings. When you're ready to go, head to the southeast corner of town (from where you enter just head left and straight) and go through the giant gate. In this next area, start to go down the hill and you will witness some Ganados pushing a giant boulder down the hill behind you. This next part can be rather annoying since it's one of those real time action cutscenes. At any rate, you run down the hill by shaking the Wii Remote left and right while this boulder is rolling down behind you. After a while, the screen will suddenly tell you to press A + B; you must do this IMMEDIATELY to avoid getting slammed by the boulder! Failure to do this will result in you dying and having to reload your save point, or restarting from atop the hill but with a loss to your record. If you survive the boulder onslaught (you're going to have to anyway), continue through the tunnel into a rather dangerous area. There are a couple shacks in this section, but the Ganados have resorted to throwing explosives your way. Be VERY careful not to stand too close, or you will take massive damage and die. Try to pick the villagers off one by one, moving quickly to avoid getting caught in an explosion. Once you get through the first building, run around it making sure not to step in the bear traps scattered along the floor. Go into the first house via the back entrance and pick up the spoils, then head into the much larger building in the back. Inside, take the HANDGUN AMMO (x10) off the table and head into the next couple rooms. The rest of this house is booby-trapped, so look for the red glowing bombs on the walls and shoot them out so they detonate, making the room safe for exploration. In the third room, push the bookcase away from the opening and continue onward. You will hear some rattling coming from the closet in the back corner; check it out and a man tied up will fall out. Witness the cutscene and the chapter will end. =========== Chapter 1-2 =========== Abandoned House --------------- After making acquaintances with Luis, you will witness another couple cutscenes as Leon and Luis chat. During this, a Ganado with an axe approaches the house you guys are tied up in. When he comes, you will have to shake the Wii Remote in this action scene to escape sudden death. This frees the two of you, and Luis bolts. After a transmission from Hunnigan, you will have control again, so take the HANDGUN AMMO (x10) and leave the house. Valley ------ As you make your exit, you will see a Merchant calling to you from out the window. Go around the corner and take the RIFLE AMMO (x5) from the table, then exit the house and go around to the Merchant. Here you can buy other weapons, sell your treasures, and upgrade your current weapons. If you want to upgrade now, go for it. I highly recommend you get the ATTACHE CASE M right now so you can carry more inventory. When you're done, turn back around and head through the metal gate. In this large complex you'll have to deal with plenty of enemies, including some who will throw explosives; watch out for those! For now, go right and down the first hill, dispatching the guy who should be standing there. Follow the path going up the hill as you take out anyone charging at you. Now you have to watch for the explosive-throwers, so pay attention and you can navigate this safely. A hint in dealing with them though; if you can shoot them dead before they throw the dynamite, it will explode killing all the enemies surrounding it; this can be to your advantage. Go up the hills and dispatch anyone that comes your way. At the end of the inclining path you'll find a chest; open it to get the EMBLEM (LEFT HALF). Now that you have the first half, jump down to the lower area from the nearby ledge. Down there you'll spot another building with an explosives thrower on the roof. You'll also notice a path leading behind this shack; remember it for you will be returning here shortly. Anyway, kill a bunch of Ganados that swarm into the area and make your way down a hill to the next building. Go around to the front side and climb the ladder. On the roof, go up the steps and open the chest to get the EMBLEM (RIGHT HALF). Now that you have both halves, combine them in the Key Items screen to form the whole HEXAGONAL EMBLEM. Jump down to the lower area and go back up the hill you just came from. This time take the left path going behind everything, and you'll come to a door with an indentation. Use the HEXAGONAL EMBLEM and the door will open, so go through. Warehouse --------- In this new area, cut open the barrels you find, then enter the abandoned warehouse ahead. The first room is safe, but in the second room you'll encounter some Ganados. Defeat them and move on until you reach an apparent dead end. At that point, jump through the windows to the side and you'll be faced with some dynamite-throwers out in the distance. If you have the RIFLE, feel free to snipe them, otherwise aim well and shoot at them with your HANDGUN, hopefully hitting their explosives for a quick room clear. This room is also littered with bear traps so watch your step as you make your way to the back area. To make it easier, shoot the traps to trigger them so it's safer to cross over. Once at the far end, go through the door and scavenge around in the next room. If you want some treasure, shoot through the boarded up window and jump through to find an ELEGANT MASK. Anyway, head through the door at the other side of the room, and go down the tunnel. Defeat a couple Ganados there, and head into the next room. You can either climb down into a well and grab some goodies, or climb up to exit the area altogether. Village Chief's House --------------------- Outside again, go forward and you will see a well-trapped area with trip bombs and bear traps. Shoot down the box on the tree to destroy the trip bomb, then shoot away the bear traps so you can walk safely. Continue up some steps and you'll find a door with a blue sphere on it. The idea is to make the sphere display the insignia found on the church in the village. For a simple solution, rotate it up and then left. The door leading inside will then open. In this house, check the bed for the CHIEF'S NOTE file, and the dresser for the INSIGNIA KEY. Go through the door to the right and you'll watch a cutscene where the Chief appears once again. Once it's done, the chapter will also end. =========== Chapter 1-3 =========== Village Chief's House --------------------- Upon starting this chapter you will be contacted by Hunnigan once more. When she's done talking, you will have control. If you want, go back into the previous room for an optional, but very interesting cutscene. Then, go downstairs and check around the house if you want, then exit through the front door. Path to Pueblo -------------- Once outside, you'll face another chain saw guy. Destroy him quickly with the SHOTGUN, then continue along the path. Kill off another group of Ganados ahead, then unbar the large door and head into the village again. Village of Pueblo ----------------- Once again in Pueblo, you'll have to fight a couple Ganados, but nothing like earlier when you first passed through. There will be several of them to fight, though. Clear them and head to the building in town where everyone ran off to earlier, and open the door with the INSIGNIA KEY. Inside, grab what you can and go through the door, then climb down into an underground tunnel. Tunnel ------ Down here, head along the corridors (they're safe) until you meet up with the Merchant again. Sell your treasures here and buy the RIFLE if you have yet to do so. You should have enough money to afford upgrading your HANDGUN and SHOTGUN a bit, too. If you have extra money, get the TMP was well. When you're done, go through the door and climb up to exit the tunnels. Cemetery -------- In here, go up the path defeating anything you come across. When you reach the church, take the path leading to the right and onto some bridges. Kill the Ganados you encounter and go through the door at the end to reach a new area. Lumber Yard ----------- Here, you will find a few cabins built off to the side; enter them to find some ammo and treasure. At the other end of the area, you'll see a large gate with something moaning behind it. Luckily you won't have to fight whatever it is yet, so take the open path to the right of it. At the split right now, take the stairs going down and head through the door. Lake Safehold ------------- In this safe zone of sorts, jump down to the lower area and follow the path to a typewriter for saving, and a Merchant. If you want to upgrade your guns, now's your chance. Also, if you've been picking off the medallions along the way here, you should have hit at least 10 by now. Talk to the Merchant and you can take the PUNISHER handgun for free. It's good since it allows you to shoot through two enemies at once; not too bad and can save you ammo. When you're done in here, go back up the ladder and through the door to the previous area. This time, head up the stairs and into the room to the right. Swamp ----- Here, start to go down the hill and you'll enter another action scene where the Ganados roll a giant boulder down the hill behind you. Swing the Wii Remote to stay ahead, then press A+B when prompted to jump out of the way safely. With that done, go forward to the swampy region. Run onto the bridge to get the first guy's attention, then shoot the trip bomb to clear him easily. Run ahead and dispatch a few more Ganados, and enter the shack. Drop into the swampy area and continue to the right (or to the east if you check the map). Shoot at the trip bombs hanging from the columns as you proceed, also making sure to defeat any Ganados in your way. At the end of the path, go up the hill onto dry land and go through the door at the top to reach the lake area. Lake ---- You will encounter a split in the path up ahead, once again. If you go forward and up the hill, you can reach a cliff overlooking the lake and witness a cutscene detailing what you're about to face. Taking the lower path though, you'll reach a shack containing a Green and YELLOW HERB, as well as a typewriter should you want to save now. Up ahead is the dock, complete with a motor boat waiting for you to jump into. Hop aboard and maneuver it to the southeast (straight ahead pretty much; make sure you're at full health before you start moving too), and you'll get another cutscene. This will be your very first boss battle against a sea creature named Del Lago. ------------------ Boss: Del Lago Found: Lake (Chapter 1-3) Strategy: You start this fight off with the massive beast pulling your boat along as it swims around the lake. The first tug-along will take you through some floating debris in the water; avoid it by steering to the left or right like you normally would. Your only weapon against this boss is a harpoon, so aim and throw when you get the monster in your crosshairs. When it's towing you around normally, there won't be any debris in the way, so take this time to throw some harpoons and cause some damage. When Del Lago goes underwater, be careful since it could reemerge and swim towards you with its mouth open to cause you lots of damage. To avoid this, try to steer your boat and evade it. Shortly after, it will emerge again and the cycle repeats. Just so you're aware, if you hit debris or Del Lago rams into your boat, you will fall into the water. When this happens you have to shake the Wii Remote rapidly to swim back to the boat or else you'll be eaten alive! After a while, when Del Lago submerges it will become quiet and you can turn in all directions to see what's around. At this point, arrows will appear onscreen to show you where Del Lago is, charging at you. Throw some harpoons as it approaches to attack some more. Then, when the usual tugging around cycle commences, throw more harpoons and avoid attacks like you normally would until you defeat it. ------------------ Following the Del Lago fight, the monster will start to sink into the lake. However, it's still pulling a rope which ends up being tangled around Leon's leg! You will be prompted to shake the Wii Remote repeatedly as quickly as possible for a few seconds as he cuts himself free. If you shook quickly enough you'll survive, and the chapter will end. =========== Chapter 2-1 =========== Lake ---- When the chapter starts, you'll watch another cutscene as well as yet another transmission from Hunnigan. After that's done, you will have control again. Check nearby for the ANONYMOUS LETTER file, as well as some ammo, then exit the house. If you look over by the lake you'll see some blue lights in the distance. Should you be inclined to do so, get into the boat and ride out toward the lights to enter a hidden cave. Lake Cave --------- In this area that was gated off earlier, you'll find some barrels with some goodies inside, as well as the Merchant. If you have the means to buy anything or upgrade, go for it. Otherwise, get back on the boat to exit. Lake ---- Back on the water, head to the southern shore once again. Then, follow the path going east in the rain to a new area. Waterfall Passage ----------------- Shortly after you arrive in here, you'll see your first Ganado who has been infected by Las Plagas. Basically, when you kill a regular Ganado, if they were infected a giant parasite will come out of their head and continue advancing; to kill it, blast the parasite from a safe enough distance. Do this here, then kill another guy and head up the stairs ahead. Hop across the ledges and follow the path going alongside the rapidly moving water, then jump across again further down. You'll see a rope up ahead; climb down it to the basin area. Down here, go forward and you'll be able to climb up a ladder to a higher ledge. Before you do so however, aim up and shoot the Ganado standing patrol there. After he's gone, climb up. If you look out in the distance you'll see a couple of crates hanging. One is straight ahead and another is higher up and towards the right. Use your RIFLE if you have it, if you have trouble aiming. Shoot both crates down, then climb down and continue along the path. After you pass the gears it will be an apparent dead end into the water. You can shoot down another crate though, which you can jump across to the other side with. Since you already did it a couple moments earlier, continue jumping across the last 2 crates to the far ledge. Go around that path to a ladder and climb up to find a lever. Turn it and jump back down, and go across the 2 crates again. Once on the middle platform several Ganados will run out of the waterfall cave that's now accessible. Run up the path and defeat everyone with your SHOTGUN. If you want, climb up the ladder here and break the barrel to find a GREEN HERB. Otherwise, go into the cave. Waterfall Cave -------------- In here, go forward until you reach a wall with markings on it. Take the ROUND INSIGNIA and it will open up. Following this, Hunnigan will call you, so talk to her. After that, go on to another door and head through it. Dock ---- In this room, go forward and hop onto the boat. It will automatically take you back to an earlier area near the Merchant prior to the Del Lago battle. Lake Safehold ------------- When you arrive here, you can go left to the Merchant. If you don't want to buy anything, it would still be a good idea to use the typewriter to save your game here. Then, take the other path up a ladder and out of this area. Lumber Yard ----------- Here, make a left into the yard itself and you'll witness a cutscene. You will then have to engage the El Gigante in battle. -------------- El Gigante Found: Lumber Yard (Chapter 2-1) Strategy: This giant beast may appear to be really tough, but as long as you keep your distance, you shouldn't have that much trouble. From a distance, this boss can throw boulders at you, or even pick up a tree and try swinging at you (you'll be prompted to swing the Wii Remote quickly to avoid that). When you close in, that's when it can get very dangerous since El Gigante can either punch at you, kick you, or grab you, all of which cause massive damage on your part. When it grabs you though, move the left analog stick back and forth QUICKLY to stab your way out of its palm. As for your attack on it, shower it with HANDGUN bullets to the head, or use the RIFLE if you want the added kick. If you're close, try using the SHOTGUN. Also, if you rescued that dog early in the game (remember that?) it will appear here to distract the boss, allowing you to get in some shots without fear of attack. After you cause enough damage, a parasite will burst out of El Gigante's back and the boss will squat down. Run towards it and climb on by pressing the button, then swing the Wii Remote rapidly to knife the parasite. After a few seconds you'll get knocked down again and the fight continues. Repeat this a couple times and you will win. -------------- Following the battle, the gates will open and you can continue with your journey. Collect the 15000 PTAs prize from El Gigante's corpse, then head through the west gate. Also, if you haven't done this during the fight, run around the area and go into the little houses to find some items, including a YELLOW HERB on a ledge near one of the gates. At any rate, go west to exit. Cemetery -------- When you enter this area, make your way across the bridges once again, until you reach the other end. Once at the end, beware since at the top of the hill are dogs waiting to attack you. You may want to use the SHOTGUN to take them all down quickly. Once they're dead, run up to the church and use the ROUND INSIGNIA to open the door, and go inside. Church ------ Inside the church finally, go to the left side and climb up a ladder to reach the upper level. There will be a control panel in the center area, so go operate it. This puzzle involves red, green, and blue lights, but they're not solid lights. You have to turn each individual color so that when you combine the colors into one circle, it resembles the center one with the insignia on it. Turn blue 1 time, red 2 times, and green 3 times, then combine. The gates on the opposite side of the room will drop and you can access the door, so do that. Inside, you will witness a cutscene where you finally find Ashley, the President's daughter who was kidnapped. After that, talk to Hunnigan, and you will get the PLAYING MANUAL 3 with details on controlling Ashley. Basically, you can have her follow you or stay in place by pressing +, you can heal her with herbs if attacked, and you get game over if she dies/is taken away through a door. With Ashley now, take what you can find in the room and exit. Run around the perimeter and jump down to the lower floor, and head into the main area to watch a cutscene. You will finally meet the Lord Saddler that you've heard so much about up until now. After the scene, the chapter ends. =========== Chapter 2-2 =========== Church Side Room ---------------- In here, cut open the barrels to get a few more items, then unlock and exit through the door. Cemetery -------- Outside, you will see a quick cutscene with a whole mess of Ganados in the graveyard. This won't be too hard, though. Go forward to the path and Ashley will tell you there are explosives on the wagon in front of you. Shoot at the wagon and the barrels will start to explode, killing most of the threat. Shoot down the remaining enemies, then run down the path and climb down the ladder into the next area. Tunnel ------ In this underground passage, go straight through it and visit the Merchant when you come to him. He'll have a couple new weapons for you this visit, should you be interested. If not, then continue through to the end where you can climb up a ladder and go through the door into a room. Take what you can and save your game here, then go outside to the village. Village of Pueblo ----------------- Outside in the rain once more, head toward the tower and follow the path to the left of it. There will be some Ganados coming to attack you, but a greater threat to you are the bear traps lining the path this time around. Shoot them out so you and Ashley don't get caught, then kill the people and move on. When you make it to the gate, go through to the next section. Farm ---- Here, you'll see a box near the entrance and the option to let Ashley hide inside. It's unnecessary in this area, so let her keep following you. As you go along the path here, you'll encounter a few villagers ready to attack. Go inside the barn when you reach it and shoot out the bear traps, then climb up the ladder to the upper floor. Jump out the window and follow the wooden path to the end. Drop down and catch Ashley, then trigger the bear traps in the way. At the gate, piggyback Ashley over and she will open the way to the next area. Note that if you missed any blue medallions on your first run through, they'll still be here, except the darkness will make them easier to spot. Bridge ------ Out here, go forward and you'll find another Merchant. Then, go onto the long bridge and Hunnigan will contact you. Following this, cross the bridge and you'll witness another cutscene where you may be apparently trapped. You both retreat into a nearby house. Abandoned House --------------- Inside this house, you will meet up with Luis once again. The Ganados are descending upon the house in huge numbers, so now you must battle. When you get control, the first thing you should do is push the dressers in front of all the windows to delay the threat. Then, collect all the ammo and herbs in the room. When the Ganados start breaking into the house, you and Luis must destroy them all while Ashley hides upstairs. There will be a LOT of them coming in so be alert and able to deal with everything as it comes. It's best to alternate weapons for this battle; use the HANDGUN or KNIFE when you're fighting a single enemy, but take the SHOTGUN out when a group of them have amassed. Use the stairs to your advantage too, as its narrow and a HAND GRENADE can become useful. Occasionally, Luis may leave ammo for you to fetch, so be sure to take them. After a while, Luis will direct you to go upstairs, so follow him up. Upstairs, there are a few windows where Ganados can climb in with ladders. Knock the ladders down and push dressers in front of the windows, then continue with the resistance. After many more Ganados are dead, they will decide to back off, and the chapter will finally end. =========== Chapter 2-3 =========== Abandoned House --------------- When you gain control in this scene again, go through the door to exit the house. Run behind the house and you'll meet the Merchant yet again. If you enter the shack next to him, you'll find the TWO ROUTES paper and a typewriter for saving your game. To the south there are two gates and a lever between the two. You can only pick one of them to go on for progressing, so it's really up to you. I will cover both paths in the next few paragraphs, so read them through and decide which road is for you that way. Left Path --------- In this area, shoot the explosives ahead to clear the few Ganados that may approach you quickly. Follow the path around a few sharp turns and climb up the ladder to an upper area. You should find a box up there; hide Ashley in it for now. As for yourself, walk around the top part killing off the Ganados you come across. When they're all gone, jump into the center area and a cutscene showing 2 chain saw women will commence. When you get control again, avoid the chain saws and climb up a ladder to the upper area. Run to a safe spot and kill off anyone else that's up there with you. When the chain saw women come towards you, use the SHOTGUN to quickly bring them down. Once you defeat the chain saw attackers and everyone else, grab the Camp Key and call Ashley back to you. Drop down to the center area of the camp and unlock the door to continue. Further along the path inside, you'll come across another ambush of Ganados. Defeat them and make your way to the door so you can pass through to the new area where the path rejoins. Right Path ---------- As a note of advice, you may want to buy that ROCKET LAUNCHER from the Merchant if you're taking this path. Anyway, inside, go forward and another El Gigante will jump out for you to battle. If you look above, there is a boulder sitting on a ledge. Move back a bit so that when El Gigante is below it, you shoot the boulder down to stun the enemy. It's the same battle plan as last time: attack until the parasite comes out, then climb atop and stab away! The difference this time is you have Ashley to watch out for. Either way, when you kill it, go through the door by kicking or shooting the chains. Collect a ton of ammo and jewels in the two buildings, as well as the OLD KEY. Kick/shoot open the second door ahead and then use the OLD KEY to open the way to the new area. Safehold -------- Regardless of the path you took, when you reach the new area, make your way to the building on your map to the southeast. Inside, you can find the VILLAGE'S LAST DEFENSE files, some ammo, and a typewriter for saving. You should also visit the Merchant who is nearby, and buy the RIFLE and the SCOPE for it sold separately if you haven't already done so. When you're ready, run up the hill and you'll find a giant gate to the right. It is the way out of the village, but it is locked for now. So, continue up the hill to a lift station. Choose to get onto the lift here. Lift ---- This particular part is where the RIFLE will really shine. While you're riding down the lift, there are platforms coming at you on the other side, many of them with Ganados ready to attack as you pass. With the RIFLE, you can zoom in from a great distance and nail them all. Plus, with the RIFLE's power, you can cut through an entire group on a platform with one shot! On the left side atop the cliffs, there are 2 Ganados that will jump on top of your platform and try to cut it off the line, so be sure to snipe them as well. When you reach the bottom, you'll automatically disembark. Lower Lift Station ------------------ Run around the platform and jump into the control room, if you want to find some ammo. Then, continue onward to some stairs. Go down the first set and you'll find a path going north. If you go along that path, you'll face a few Ganados and find a YELLOW CATSEYE treasure at the end.
