Sonic the Hedgehog (Master System) Review :

Sonic the Hedgehog (Master System Virtual Console)

by mule Sep 07, 2010

Sonic the Hedgehog, a classic Master System game, is downloadable on the Wii shop Channel for 500 points. The game is very fun, addicting, and frustrating. You start the game at the Green Hill Zone, and move along to other areas as you complete each level. Every level has a sign at the end, and when you run through it, the sign spins and will land with a picture of an exclamation point, Sonic, or Dr. Eggman. If you get an exclamation point, you will get to go to a ring filled level, where you can get extra lives for every 100 rings you collect, and you can find a Continue hidden somewhere. When you lose all your lives, you have to restart the game, however, with a Continue you'll have 10 seconds to press 2 (A if your using a Game Cube controller or Wii Classic controller) and you start back at the level you died on. If the sign ends on Sonic, you will get an extra life, and if the sign lands on Dr. Eggman then nothing will happen, and will just proceed to the next level. At the end of each area (ie: Green Hill Zone, Bridge, Jungle, etc.) you will have to fight Dr. Eggman. You attack Dr. Eggman like you would a Koopa or Goomba in Super Mario Bros., jumping on his head. However, other enemies like bees or piranhas you need to kill by jumping at them from underneath or from the sides. Enemies like crabs or hermit crab-like creatures with spikes on there backs (they don't have a name, so I'll call them HCLCWSOTB for short) you have to kill by jumping at their side/head at about a 20º angle. There is much more things in the game, but I won't go through it all here. Overall, Sonic the Hedgehog is a great game, and you should really download it.

7Story line
You play as Sonic, a blue hedgehog going through many levels and areas, to save animals captured by the evil Dr. Eggman.
Compared to modern video games the game's graphics aren't very good. However, for the time this game was originally released, the graphics are pretty good.
Again, compared to modern video games, the sound would be very good. But I love classic video game music, and this one's got some pretty good of it.
This game is very fun, and provides hours of gameplay and entertainment, depending how good you are at it. What I don't like is, like many classic games, is when you run out of lives, you have restart the ENTIRE game. However, this adds lots of more gameplay time. (Don't I say however a lot?)
7Lasting Appeal
This game appeals to be quite fun, and due to how popular Sonic games have gotten, I think would attract many gamers to want to try out this SEGA classic.
(Out of 10)
