Compass directions are not very relevant to the game, so I only use left/right and up/down as common directions. Sometimes I have a habit of using "#x", meaning number of times (e.g. 2x= 2 times) as a shortform to move or do something that many times. *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ [M3.4] *Bare Bones Guide* Players looking for a challenge can try beating the game themselves by using these basic tips. 1) Get the Luma for the ability to fly through space. 2) Access the galaxies through the Comet Observatory locations. 3) Explore all plausible areas. 4) Check back with previous galaxies for Prankster Comets. 5) Talk to Mailtoad for letters from Luigi. 6) Feed Hungry Lumas around the Comet Observatory and within galaxies to reveal secret areas. 7) Collect 3 Green Stars to open up the Trial Galaxy. 8) Defeat Bowser and Bowser Jr.'s boss levels for Grand Stars. 9) Defeat Bowser in the ultimate boss fight. 10) Replay the game as Luigi for double the stars! *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ [M4] *Basic Controls & Actions* The Wii remote & Nunchuck are required to play the game. Hook up the Nunchuck by connecting it to the bottom of the "Wiimote". Wii Remote Controls: Sensor-point at the TV screen to collect Star Bits Control Pad- shift camera left/right, press up for Mario's POV A- Jump, talk, read, continue dialogue B- Shoot Star Bits Plus/minus-pause menu Home- return to Wii main menu 1/2- not used Shake Wiimote- spin Nunchuck Controls: Control Stick- move C- shift camera behind Mario Z- duck/dive underwater Special Moves: Z&A (on the run)- long jump Z&A (standing still)- backflip A 3x- triple jump *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ [M5] *Characters* *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ [M5.1] *Good Guys* Mario The same old short, fat, mustached plumber with red hat & overalls. Abilities: Flying through space Princess Peach The beautiful, headstrong princess of Mushroom Kingdom. Rosalina Guardian of the Lumas at the Comet Observatory. Peach's long-lost twin? Luma A mystical creature that gives you the ability to fly through space using Launch Stars. *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ [M5.2] *Bad Dudes* Bowser Has once again turned evil. Bowser Jr. Like father, like son. *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ [M6] *Walkthrough* *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ [M6.1] *Star Festival* Read the backstory of the Star Festival. Once you have control, navigate the festival area, heading up the hill. Soon, the town is under ambush by Bowser's airships. Recognize the music from SMB3? Head towards the castle along the outlined road. Enjoy the awesome cinema as Mario is blasted away into outer space. *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ [M6.12] *Gateway Galaxy* Star # 1- Grand Star Rescue Mario is awakened on a grassy hill by a Luma, who then turns into a bunny. Chase it until you meet with two more wabbits (wascally wabbits) to play hide 'n' seek. Guess who's It? The first rabbit is in a nearby hole with a coin above it. Chase it down & it will reveal the location of the next rabbit. Take the pipe to find it. The last rabbit is in the grass with sticky green bulbs. Once you find the 3rd rabbit, a tower is built. Climb it up to meet Rosalina, the guardian of the mystical Lumas, who will grant you a spin attack move, used by shaking the Wiimote, and you get your own Luma companion. Break the crystals by spinning into them, then use the Launch Star by approaching it & shaking the Wiimote to reach a nearby planet. Collect 5 Star Chips to free the trapped Luma and don't fall through the holes (that goes for all planets to come). Get (1) Star Chip in a crystal near the Luma, (2) on a nearby platform, (3) on the edge of a hole, (4) by a pillar with a 1-Up on top for you to collect, and (5) on another platform. Use the next Launch Star to find another trapped Luma (these guys sure get caught easily). Spin into the Goomba enemies to eventually find a key to free the Luma. Use the Sling Star the same way you do a Launch Star. It just doesn't "launch" you very far. Defeat more Goombas, including the gigantic one which has the key, to free another Luma. Enter the pipe to find a Grand Star encased in a weird machine. Step on all 16 yellow switches to turn them blue. Only step on them once so they stay blue. There are 12 around the Grand Star and 4 amongst the moving platforms. Be wary of the electricity on their ends. Once all switches are activated, collect the Grand Star to reach the Comet Observatory. Comet Observatory Here you will learn that each galaxy has a Grand Star which will power up the observatory and allow you to rescue Peach & eventually return home. All in a day's work for Mario. The Power Stars will open up more galaxies. Capeach? Sorry...a little Nintendo humour there. By finding the first star, you open up the Terrace, one of 6 areas here. Save your game & enter the green domed building, a.k.a. the Terrace. Aim your Wiimote & press A on the blue Pull Star to access the nearby galaxies. Each galaxy is opened up by finding the number of stars attached to each. Open up the "1" galaxy and select the Good Egg Galaxy to continue. *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ [M6.2] *Terrace* *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ [M6.21] *Good Egg Galaxy* Star #1- Dino Piranha Head across the stone bridge at right to walk around the planet to the top. Isn't gravity cool? Head right and across the next walkway to a red pipe. Take it to a secret area. This is a recurring activity to gain a 1-Up. Climb the wall at right and touch the big coin to activate a series of musical notes. Walk through them all (it doesn't have it be in order) to play a familiar SMB tune. Touch all the notes within the time limit to earn a 1-Up. Collect it, then exit back through the red pipe on the bottom floor. Head back left to the walkway with a Goomba. Climb it up to a Luma and talk to it to open up a Sling Star. Use it to reach a Launch Star and reach the next planet. Watch out for Mick, Keith & Ron (ahem...the rolling stones) to collect 5 Star Chips. (1) and (2) are on either side of the Luma, (3), (4) & (5) are between the boulders. Use the next Launch Star to reach the next planet. Jump on the Piranha Plant to activate a vine. Shake the Wiimote to climb it. Climb the path and avoid the boulders by standing in the little groves on the right side. Behind the tunnel that spits out the boulders (finding a 1-Up nearby), defeat the purple Piranha Plant by spinning into the green bulbs and standing aside so they hit the Piranha and not you! Use the next vine to reach a stone path, then climb up the structure and spin the crystal. Use the Launch Star to smack into a giant egg, which then blindly attempts to run you over. Spin into the nut on its tail to wind up & crack the egg to reveal your first mini-boss, Dino Piranha. Stay out of its line of sight & continue spinning into the nut on its tail a total of 3 times to defeat it. It's not too hard to beat it, though it does pick up speed by its 2nd hit. Defeating Dino Piranha brings you a Power Star. Practice using Star Bits by aiming your Wiimote at the ones that appear, then aim at the black Luma and press B to shoot them at him. Return to the Good Egg Galaxy to continue. Star #2- A Snack of Cosmic Proportions This star is part of a recurring activity in which you must feed a Hungry Luma a certain number of Star Bits to open up areas to collect stars. For this area, you need 100 Star Bits. Find them in the grass, from defeating enemies (by spinning, not jumping), on trees, and raining down from the universe. You'll probably get close to 100 (if not the entire lot) in the first planet alone. Head up the stone stairway to a blue Luma who will reveal Pull Stars. Aim with the Wiimote & press A to pull Mario to a Launch star. Find more Star Bits by spinning into the crystals & enemies here, then find the next Launch Star frozen in its own crystal. Ignore the Launch Star en route to the next planet. Avoid the rolling boulders and collect more Star Bits if necessary, then use the next Launch Star, ignoring the Launch Star in mid-space. Talk to the Hungry Luma & shoot 100 Star Bits her (his?) way to form a new planet. Use the new Launch Star to reach it. Climb up the structure and collect the 1-Up at right by spinning a green bulb into the spiky plants. Wall jump between the two walls by jumping off them with A. Head left to the stairs and use the Launch Star atop them. No, you're not going crazy. It's glass. Find an empty crystal & spin into it to reveal a hole. Drop through to the inside area. Gravity gets bendy here (like the Whoa Zone in SPM). Head right into a red area where Mario flips upside-down to walk on the ceiling. Cool! Keep heading right into blue (normal) & red areas. At the moving platforms, avoid the blue area or you'll have to start over again. Zip across the platforms at right once you head up a bit to get another 1-Up, then go left to flip up to a Launch Star. On the next planet, it looks dangerous, but you're stuck to it like glue. You can't fall into oblivion, trust me. Collect all 5 blue Star Chips, found on top & under the star-shaped planet to reveal Pull Stars. Use one, then aim for another. While in mid-air, aim & use a Pull Star that will pull you into the Power Star. It's tricky, and you need to be quick, or you'll be pulled too far in & get lost in space. Star #3- King Kaliente's Battle Fleet Head around to the other side of the planet & find the red pipe you entered earlier. *Suck, suck, suck* (cue pipe-taking sound effects). Play the musical note game from earlier for another 1-Up, then take the other red pipe on the ceiling, and use the Launch Star on the roof of the house. Spin into the crystal to free a Toad and receive a tip for beating the spiky plants. Spin into the green coconuts to automatically bop the plants. Find the giant spiky plant and hit it with a coconut to reveal a Sling Star. Use it to reach a nearby planet. Find the Pokey (cactus) at the opposite end & bop a coconut at it. Its head remains, so jump on it to reveal a Launch Star. Blast off! Ignore the Sling Star for now and use the pipe for a little bonus. Touch the coin to turn invincible "Rainbow Mario". Hit up all the Goombas, then exit back & knock out the Chain Chomps if the power hasn't run out by now. Use the Sling Star to reach an electrified planet. Avoid the electric lines by jumping over them to the opposite side. Watch out for the Chain Chomps and Bullet Bills being launched from the central machine. Bullet Bills can stalk you, so stay close to the blocks to destroy them. Climb the walls, spin into the crystal & use the Launch Star to reach one of Bowser's old-school airships. Head forward to reveal two guys who shoot coconuts at you. Spin into them (of course) to knock them both out & reveal a bridge. Take it across & climb up at right to the Launch Star. On the next planet, the Luma will tip you off on the yellow lights on the ground. If you shoot a Star Bit at them, you'll get a coin, which will restore a point on your life meter. That's a good thing, since you only get 3 :oP Head up to the lava area to fight a mini-boss, King Kaliente. Avoid the lava (duh) and the fireballs & ice he spits at you. When he spits out a green coconut, spin into it to bop him. Repeat two times, but be aware that he will knock it back towards you once (for the 2nd hit) and twice (for the last hit). Collect the Power Star once he's "magmatized". Once back at the Comet Observatory, a new galaxy opens. You'll return to Good Egg Galaxy later, once you reveal or obtain new items. I'll return you there later. For now, use the Pull Star again, blast open the "3" and enter the Honeyhive Galaxy. *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ [M6.22] *Honeyhive Galaxy* Star #1- Bee Mario Takes Flight Head right along the path, then up & left to the fountain area. Touch the ? coin to reveal a Bee Mushroom. Drop down at left & grab it to become Bee Mario, one of several Power-Ups in the game. Now you can fly by pressing A, but be aware of your gauge that drains very quickly if you constantly hold A. Try tapping it while in mid-air to use up its power more effectively. If you get hit by an enemy or touch water, you'll return back to normal Mario, and therefore, will need to find another Bee Mushroom to change back. Anyhoo, fly up to the high ledge behind the waterfall & head forward to an open tree stump. Geronimo! Slide down (not that you have much choice), then fly up to another ledge. Collect coins from the flowers (only acccessible as Bee Mario) and fly across to the Launch Star, avoiding the honey, which slows you down considerably. On the next planet, hop across the lily pads around to the right where a fellow bee guards a large flower. Climb the stem like you do a vine by shaking the Wiimote. Navigate the flowers & avoid the water jets, then use the Launch Star on the big flower. As Bee Mario, fly to the honeycombs to stick to them, then climb up them. Fly off & stick to more to reach a ledge. Jump on the Piranha Plant to reveal a vine, then take it to reach the Queen Bee. Fly to her & stick to her body (hope she's not too ticklish!). Head all the way around her to collect 5 Star Chips. Fly behind her to the Launch Star, then talk to the Toad with a light on its helmet to receive a Power Star. Once you finish this star, Rosalina will show you the Garage, where a bunch of Toads are fixing up a spaceship to rescue Peach. Spin into the box for a 1-Up, then head back to the Terrace & continue with the Honeyhive Galaxy. Star # 2- Trouble on the Tower Head right & you'll notice some grey blocks. You can destroy them by ground pounding (press A, then Z) to collect Star Bits. The second block up the road reveals a vine. Carefully shake the Wiimote to use it, but DON'T twirl at the end, or you'll fall off the planet! At the next area, pound the block to reveal a trampoline, then jump & ground pound it to reach the ? block for Star Bits. Head around the tree and use the next trampoline to reach a Sling Star. Defeat the Wiggler with a ground pound, then do the same to the red switch to reveal a bridge. Take it to another switch & pound it to climb the walls. Remember how to do wall jumps? Jump to a wall, then press A and move towards the next wall to climb up them. Wall jump between two towers, then use the Launch Star at the top. Head down to the bottom. Jump off to the planet very close by, then use the Sling Star on its bottom. Get the ? coin to become Rainbow Mario & defeat all the enemies. Jump into the open stump to reach a high tower. Head left & jump to the swing to propel Mario over the gap. Fall to the tiled floor below and collect the Life Shroom to double your health meter to 6. If it falls down to 3, you'll lose the extra meter. Ground pound the purple bugs to defeat them. Use the trampoline to return upwards, then head to the parallel walls. Wall jump up, then head left & pound the red switch to make the windmill blades spin. Jump to a blade to ride it around, then hop to the platform with a large bug and a small bug on its head. Ground pound the small bug to get the big mama bug really heated up. Pound her the same way to get the Power Star. Star #3- Big Bad Bugaboom Revenge of the nerds...I mean bugs. Head right, ground pounding any bugs you want to smoosh. Head up to the fountain where a launcher is making bubbles. Step on the block in front of it to sail over the big gap to a ledge. On the tree stump, get the Life Mushroom, then head left and jump on the pole to slide down (it's okay if you miss...the ground will break your fall!). Get the Bee Mushroom on the lily pad at right, then take the pipe ahead. Avoid the launchers itching to splash you and fly up behind the waterfall to the high ledge. Head to the end to meet the Queen Bee again. Use the Launch Star to land in a new area. Use the flower to swing & fly across to another one, then use it to reach the main platform. Time to fight, boy-o! Stay Bee Mario to reach him. Just fly up and ground pound the giant Mandibug to get it really p-...uh, mad. Now he'll start bombing the joint. When he turns the corner, start flying up, then when he gets close, now's your chance to pound him. Now he'll not only fly around & try to bomb you, but he'll tilt his back so you might fall off. That bum :oP Use the same strategy, just be quick about it, and you'll get the star. You can also use the flowers and honeycombs to gain extra height. Once you complete this star, a Hungry Luma appears by the Terrace. See my Hungry Lumas section for help. If you don't have enough Star Bits, you can always return later. At the Terrace, you can open up two new mini-galaxies & continue on. *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ [M6.23] *Loopdeeloop Galaxy* Star #1- Surfing 101 Talk to the big penguin (the coach) and say Yes to start a tutorial on manta ray surfing. Point the Wiimote at the screen and tilt left/ right to turn that way. Hold A to speed up and let go to slow down. Head down the track through the tunnel to begin the real thing. It's a race against the clock. Finish in under 1:30 to win the star. Go fast on straightaways and slow down on sharp turns. Try to collect the 1-Up along the way. I find the waves will really give you momentum, so use them when it's safe to. When you cross the finish line, you get a star. My Personal High Score: 1:05:78 *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ [M6.24] *Flipswitch Galaxy* Star #1- Painting the Planet Yellow Like a previous galaxy, you need to step on each blue switch, turning it yellow, this time avoiding several electrical barriers. Head down and left, then use the red moving platform to head back up. Go around left past the shockwave-spouting enemy, then down right to finish up. Once you hit the last switch, everything is neutralized. Ground pound the purple enemy (now a trampoline) to reach the star. Once this star is complete, open up the next galaxy & continue. *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ [M6.25] *Bowser Jr.'s Robot Reactor* Star #1- Megaleg's Moon Head down and lure a Bullet Bill towards the trapped Launch Star to free it, then use it. Bowser Jr. makes a cameo appearance before siccing a big robot on you. Wait for one of its legs to land, then climb it like a ramp. Jump over the Bullet Bill cannons and across the cogs to the top of Megaleg. Lure a Bullet Bill towards the gates to break a section off, then lure another one through the open hole to the trapped star. It's tricky and the gates will reassemble after a minute or so. If you can knock off a couple of gates, the hole will be easier to lure a Bullet Bill through. Collect the star once you blast the glass. Huzzah! Alternative strategy: Once you reach the glass dome area at the top of the robot, you can use one of two other strategies. a.) lure one Bullet Bill over to the gate, then backflip over it. If you're lucky, then the Bullet Bill will follow you and arc over the gate into the glass dome. Or, b.) Lure two Bullet Bill's at the same time. That way, you have the first one hit the gate and the second one follows through the hole right after the first one blows up. Once you complete this level, the Fountain opens up. You'll return to the Terrace at a later time (which I'll remind you to do). Also, once you get 13 Power Stars, a series of Prankster Comets will appear at observatory areas randomly. So check back at previously visited areas (Terrace, Fountain, etc.) to see if a Prankster Comet has hit. Check out my Prankster Comets section for information on how to obtain each star from the Prankster Comet levels. From the Terrace, head around left to a beam of light. Step on the disc to be transported up to the Fountain. Use the Pull Star, then open up the "9" galaxy. *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ [M6.3] *Fountain* *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ [M6.31] *Space Junk Galaxy* Star #1- Pull Star Path Use the Pull Star ahead and shake the Wiimote to land on the planet. Use the series of 8 Pull Stars at the other end of the platform. Head above the L-shaped rock to reach a glass planet. Collect 5 Star Chips, (1) being right there when you land. At left is (2) and (3), (4) is on the top side of the next planet at right, and (5) is also here, encircling it. Use the Launch Star that appears. Head to the top of the rocket (cool planet motif!) and use the Pull Star dome as usual 3x, then carefully navigate the series of Pull Stars. If you go too fast, you'll hit a rock and fall. At the end, free all the Toads trapped in crystals, then jump up (flipping upside down) to the Starshroom ship. Use the Sling Star at the top to reach a bunch of (like the galaxy name) space junk. Prove how much you trust me and start walking forward. See? Head left across the green blocks to (1) silver star. You need 5 of these to get the big star. Head all the way right to (2), then back to the fork and forward some more to another fork. Go left for (3), then forward at the fork on top of a block for (4). Go back to the fork and right to find red space bits. Jump towards a bunch for them to form a platform, then head right across a couple more for (5) and the real star will appear. Backtrack down all the way to the beginning to collect the Power Star. Star #2- Kamella's Airship Attack The Toad will tell you that several of his crew are lost in space. Use the Launch Star to reach the Airship. You can find a ? block full of Star Bits at right. Spin left of the blue lever to activate the bridge, then cross it to the two rabbits (sorry, wabbits). Jump and spin across the gap left for a 1-Up, then spin into the box at right for a Sling Star. Using it, spin atop the green valve to raise it up and use the ? box. Free the Toads in the crystals, then use the Koopa Shell by simply walking into it. Throw it by shaking the Wiimote to open the two treasure chests and bopping the Magikoopa. Do it again at the last chest for a Launch Star. Jump to the tilty platform at left and try to Long Jump (run, press Z&A) to reach a chimney for lots of Star Bits. Use the Sling Star to head back. Jump on the slow- moving Koopas to use their Koopa Shells to open two chests and get the Life Mushroom from one. The red shell is more accurate than the green one. Toss shells at the two distant enemies and use the bridge to reach a Sling Star. Now to fight Kamella, a Magikoopa that will shoot fireballs and an ocassional Koopa Shell your way. Spin at the Koopa Shell to nab it, then shake the Wiimote to toss it at her. She will then summon two Magikoopas and toss more fireballs. Continue the same strategy 2x to defeat her. You can either ignore or defeat the smaller Magikoopas. You are rewarded with a star. This being your 13th star collected, Rosalina informs you about a Prankster Comet. Just left of her by the Terrace is a Luma who will give you more information. Remember to check back for them often. Star #3- Tarantox's Tangled Web Talk to the red Toad captain to learn that another crew member is missing. This guy needs to get with the program...Use the Pull Star to reach the first planet, then use more Pull Stars to approach the L-shaped rock. This time, go left (instead of right) to a new planet. Head up to find a Pull Star above a hole and drop through. The maze area can be confusing, and with a birds-eye camera angle, keep in mind that my directions will be from Mario's POV. Head right around to a Launch Star. Use it to reach another planet. Head forward & beat the spiders, then find a Toad stuck in a Sling Pod. Aim and use A to fling (sling?) the Toad across to the next planet. He'll just be trapped there now?! Fling yourself over as well, then use the next Sling Pod to reach a rocket planet and get the Life Mushroom on the top. Use the Sling Pod at the bottom to the L-shaped rock, then through a huge cocoon and into a big spider web. Use a Sling Pod to shoot yourself into a smaller cocoon and summon Tarantox, a huge spider. Quickly avoid his acid attack and use a Sling Pod to fling yourself into the big glowing circle on its back. This only stuns it. Follow it up by slinging yourself into one of 3 red spots, or you can also destroy its acid spouts. Continue this strategy again as Tarantox releases even more acid to beat him and win the Star. Sling yourself into the star to grab it. For finishing this star, a Hungry Luma appears by the Fountain. Feed it 400 Star Bits to open up the Sling Pod Galaxy. See the Hungry Lumas section to finish this galaxy for a Power Star. Star #4- Secret Star- Yoshi's Unexpected Appearance Re-enter Tarantox's Tangled Web. Notice the ? on the star. Use the Pull Star off the Starshroom ship and collect lots of Star Bits as you head left past the L-shaped rock to the |
