Walkthrough - Mastering Kirby online & offlineI'm pretty sure that when you play online, you come up against Kirby spammers. What ae Kirby spammers? People who think it's cool to float to the top of the stage and then downward special you. You know the one? The one where Kirby, our pink bundle of fun, turns into a weight, brick, stone etc. and smashes your head in. Lovely. This is not how to use Kirby. I'll be teaching you in this walkthrough, how to use ALL of Kirby's abilities. CONTENTS [1] Basics of Kirby: Jumping [2] Basics of Kirby: Attacking with Normal Attacks [3] Basics of Kirby: Specials [4] Stats (I will say now, this part is taken from the SSBB guide) And My own Kirby stats! [5] Advance Techniques of Kirby: Using him to the best ability possible [6] Kibycide [7] Final Smash [8] Credits and Stuff [9] Writers Notes [1] Basics of Kirby: Jumping. Kirby has many abilites in Brawl, one of these is his great blow jump taken from the other SSB's. Unlike other characters (Except those with wings and King Dedede)Kirby can jump more than twice. This comes in extremely handy when on a medium high percentage rate (40%-60%) and knocked off the stage. Instead of Upward Special to get back on the stage, like you'd do with Link etc. You can just jump to your requirements to get back on the stage. Most characters/players, well those you aren't amazing, panic when knocked off the stage when your % is high, this shouldn't be feared. Kirby can also relax between jumps so you don't need to use them all at once. Say, for example, Kirby goes off-sceen into the KO zone, you can still see Kirby, due to the speech bubble that appears, simply jump once for support, then when back on screen jump as many times (max. is 5 I think) as you need to, to get back on the stage. However, If playing a 1-1 and this happens, you will need to attack as you come back in, as if the player your against is any good, they'd be building up/holding a smash attack, ready to KO you. (More of this in the Advance section [5]) [2] Basics of Kirby: Attacking (Note before reading: This is the normal attacks of Kirby, for Specials see [3]) Kirby's general attacks aren't strong. If using a Gamecube controller, you can even 'Turbo-A' to spam his normal A attack, but that's not a good idea (Many reasons, one being easy KO on you if playing a 4 Player match). Remember, your aim, generally, is to deliver damage, then smash your opponents out of the stage. Kirby can do this with normal attacks, but it's difficult. Specials, ([3]) are the more easy way to deal damage, but for those of you who want to mix and match, here's a list of ways normal attacks can deliver decent ammounts of damge. Due to Kirby's x5 jump, if and opponent has been knocked up off the stage and survived the KO attempt, Kirby can jump up and deal a 'Up+A' Attack (Normal+Upward attack) which has the high possibility of KO'ing the opponent. This can only be done on timing. For this to work you need your target to be just appearing on screen as you do it. This, however, is counterable. You opponent could be another Kirby. In this case, I would advise, not going after, as they would most probably try to get lucky using 'Stone' to see if any damage can be dealt. On the stage Kirby has no advantage, lets face it. Kirby's main area of expertice is the air. But he isn't all bad on the ground. Now before I go any further, you must know how to block, Blcoking is key for kirby as turning into stone doesn't work all the time. Also: Don't randomly jump into the middle of a sub-Brawl (Two or 3 players brawling between them selves and they haven't noticed you). This is your ideal chance to get an easy KO. They'd all be on high damage between them selves. So, if one of them send s the other 1 or 2 flying, you have a choice. Either KO the one who sent them flying, or KO one of those in midair. It's a 50/50 but your chances of getting a KO are high. Examine the stage and use it to your attacks advantage. I'll use Bridge of Eldin for example. When the middle of the bridge collapses, Lure your opponent in after you, then use your other jumps to downward attack him, sending him for a KO. Make sure his damage is already high though, it wont only send him slightly furhter down. Dealing normal damage is preety easy though, there are so many combinations. You could if you wanted, run along the stage taunting people, then when one gets close, smash them away. You'd be surprised how many times that works. Get's people pretty annoyed at you. [3] Basics of Kirby: Specials. Ah, now for the fun attacks. I'll go through them one at a time: Inhale: The normal special attack of Kirby. This is an unique ability that only kirby has. It is to Inhale, then spit them out, but as he spits them out he will copy their no movement special attack. This can be useful depending on who you inhale. It is wise to plan out who, and who not to inhale. If your main-game plan is to camp at one end of the stage, Inhale someone with an arrow, or projectile attack, example, Link, Pit etc. but if you game-plan is to be in the head of the brawl, it's wise to inhale Charizard or Bowser (a few more examples). Hammer: Kirby's very own Special Smashish attack. Like Smashes, it's fast, and easy to use (No I'm not selling paint...) It's range reaches a decent extent, but its not a massive Dedede hammer, its a relatively normal sized (think of the golden hammer item, just made of wood and less awesome!). It has chances of KO'ing an opponent if their % is high, or even medium sized if your lucky! It's a decent move for 'Heat-of-Brawl' players as if it hits all or 2 of them it can send them off the stage. Final Cutter: Ah. The Kirbycide move. (See [6]) Not to be used if falling of the stage, thats for sure, it can KO you instantly if you miss the stage, Like Ike's 'Aether'. However, if you do catch the stage, pull yourself right up and use it again on the stage to clear out any standing, close-by, opponents. If the blade hits them it can cause major damage, but if it's just the wind-like part that comes out of the blade when you land, it causes damage, yes, just not a lot. Stone: I'll try not to flame spammers in this part. Stone is as good in the air as it is on the ground. Pretty good. It's like an uber-block when on the ground as it takes a throw (something PREEETYYY risky) to get you out of it. That and a smash attack of course. In the air, however, it can cause extreme damge and has the ability to KO all opponents if they are together with one hit. This may also be used as a recovery move when recovering from a recent upward smash. When to use these will be put in with the Advanced part of this guide. [4] Stats (Taken from the offical SSBB guide:) Offense: 5 Defense: 5 Projectile: -- Final Smash: 6 Throwing ability: 7 Speed: 6 Overall: 5 I HIGHLY disagree with this. I think his speed should be much higher, seeing as how he is extremely fast sprinter/dasher. His Final Smash should be upped to a 7 as it can instantly KO all 3 players if done correctly. The defense should be made a 6 due to his Stone ability and how that works as a shield. Here is my Stats for Kirby: Offense: 6 Defense: 6 Projectile: -- Final Smash: 7 Throwing ability: 7 Speed: 7 [5] Advance Techniques of Kirby: Using him to the best ability possible As a Kirby Mainer, I can give you some idea of how I play, and how other Kirby users (which I've seen) play. As mentioned extremely high above, there are always spammers, in any online game. So this game is no different. Stone is the required Spam move as its damage dealing and effective. But let's play properly? First off, Kirby's size. He's so small that he can duck up projectiles such as arrows (go try it if you don't believe me!). His size is a good thing, most camper players use Link and Pit for arrow spam, Kirbym, can evade these by simply crouching, isn't that brilliant? But you must time this correctly. If timing fails, you'll get low damage so be careful. Kirby's main feature, however is the x5 jump. This can be followed by a simple Stone of aerial attack to KO/Deal heavy damage to your opponents. It's recomended that you do this when an opponent is recovering as if they are already recovering, how can they recover twice? Inhale may be used to stop recoveries aswell. If you stand on the edge of the stage and inhale, there are high chances, you'll inhale the opponent who has been knocked of the stage. So inhaling them then spitting them out may cause a KO if there damage is high enough. I have to say that spitting them out as a star is much more effective than a normal spit. So try to star spit when doing this. [6] Kirbycide. Some of you less expierienced players may be wondering what this is. Well Kirbycide is a term used in stock matches. If you, Kirby, have more stocks than your opponent, you inflict a KO on your self while taking out an opponent with less stock lives. [6.5] How to Kirbycide "There are several ways to Kirbycide. You can use some of Kirby'sthrowswhen near the stage's edge, but the most popular is to inhale an opponent and jump off the stage. You can do this when the opponent is at very low damage percentages; with expert timing, Kirby can use his long recovery abiity to return to the stage after KO'ing the opponent" -SSBB Guide. [7] Final Smash Final Smash: Cook Kirby This FS is lovely, due to the fact it requires no aim at all! It can virtually get everyone standing/just above the Final Destination Stage and suck them in. This works for any small stage actually! On a bigger stage it'll only get close by targets and not everyone. If you notice at the begining of the FS, Kirby throws random ingredients in the pot. Now this is what gives the Final Smash power. It all depends on what items are thrown in. Explosive Items are guarenteed a KO. But food items that restore % may not give you a KO and may just inflict (roughly) 60% damage. [8] Credits and stuff This guide/walkthrough was written with some, but not a lot of help from the Premiere Edition of the SSBB guide. Most of it is written by expierience of Brawl. Credits to 'PRIMA Offical Game Guides' for the SSBB guide and all the help and tips it gave me to make this Guide possible. [9] Writers Notes This took ages to write! I think it's a good guide. I might do some more of these, for some other characters. If I do, expect Captain Falcon, or Link to be next. Hope this helps those Kirby Players out there! |
