This glitch happened to me tons of times and I hate it. Anyway, you have to sell your
house and buy it back. The food item that is causing trouble will be forced into moving
storage. From there you should place it on the ground and let a sim throw it out (or wash
it in the sink). There you go!

All I ever do is sell the plate. and if that doesn't work, I sell the table.

I have had this happen to me too but I have saved my game and gone back into it and then
was able to get it to work for whatever reason??? I am haveing other glitches though. I am
missing buildings in my town and there are a lot of things that people on here are talking
about that I can't even buy. There not even in my options to buy....is there a way to
update the game or something????? Can someone help me???
